Nickel, Dime, Dollars 😂

Hello All, this isn't anything but some thoughts from a green new comer to the sport/hobby and just wondering how deep I can dig my hole.
I recently got my first. AV Avenger Bullpup(2) 25 cal. Groundhogs, Raccoons after my chickens, paper, just plinking.
I did allot of research. AV had a summer promotion (15%) so this gun was <$400. Wow. I got a little cheap on the scope, CVLife 2-10 x 32 AO. For the money it's quite good. Compressor; open box smaller one Spiritech. $100 ($275 retail). Same overstock got a great rifle bag, $20 ($80 retail). Then, obviously, pellets.
At this point, my wife asked me, "Do you have everything you need?" ; "Are you sure you don't need anything else?" She wasn't asking to be hard about it, just rather keep our budget and understand.
So.... This is where things took a bit of a turn on me. Simple things, Silicon cloth for wipe down, muzzle cleaning patches, loctite, bubble level kit.
Ok, that outta do it. Looking great. Oops, forgot a few things. Resting it to mount the scope is making me crazy. Needed a small rifle rest. Cheap laser bore to get close(was junk, returned), basic resting sand bags, etc.
Oh, I can't be sure how this things is performing? Ask for advice, everyone said the same thing. "You need a Chrono". That sounds expensive. I found a budget Chinese one that was well reviewed and most guys here agreed.... $50.
Back to my wife; so I needed a few more things. Not overly expensive. She's completely fine but smiling with the "I knew it" look on her face. 😂
Hmmm... Maybe I should upgrade that glass? Those digital pressure gauges look nice. A moderator would do this thing some justice. Wow, some of these higher end guns look amazing. I bet it'd be easier to fill from a bottle.
I knew, like everything, this could be a real rabbit hole. I didn't realize just how much I'd love it. I'm wondering if others out there had a similar experience and where that road led them.

All my best to everyone. Sorry for the long post but it felt good to put it out there....

Randolph front rest

Good morning,
I am going to try some N50 with air rifle and rimfire and I'm looking at getting a Randolph front rest or an AR 250 front rest with joystick. I was curious if the AR 250 can cover a whole card at 50 yards? Also every time I go to look at the Randolph front rest it says the website could be being impersonated because their certificate expired and is a risk going to the webpage. Have you guys had that issue? I would like to look at them and get an ideal on price? Thanks
Jon

Regulated or Non-Regulated

New to Airgun Nation and haven't been in a forum for a very long time. I a few PCP guns but none of them are regulated. My question is a regulated pcp a better gun from shot to shot. My inventory of guns are FX Ranchero, FX Tarantula, JTS Airacuda, Hatsan Flashpup QE & Umarex Guantlet G1 that is in the process of getting some upgrades. Any input about this would be greatly appreciated.

N/A  Thinking of a high shot count .177

I already have an HW100 in this cal that I’ve got tuned to shoot at 16 FPE and it’s perfect for that application. What I’m thinking of is a low powered , 8 fpe ( 8.4 grain at 650fps) with a monster shot count. I’m not an airgun snob , but I refuse to buy a rifle from China and would prefer not to buy from Turkey either. Yes I know that’s going to limit what I can get my hands on.

Here’s the criteria and remember I’m up in Canukistan so I’m already pretty limited.
Bottle fed ,maybe 700cc if the bottle fits
Short-under 36”
Regulated
Under 7 lbs
Multi shot
Wood stock preferably

Here a couple rifles I have in mind.
HW100 with a dr.BOBs bottle adapter
RAW HM1000
FX boss /crown

What other rifles should I consider?

Umarex  Notos old news

I have given a few of these away to family and friends, But the one I am playing with , The big plus is the light weight, Installed a 25 cc plumin a FX 380 barrel and the trigger kit, No bottle yet, Ha, I took the red dot and the swampfox off to test the accuracy of the FX barrel, Still trying to keep it light I installed a Arkin EPL-4 FFP 6x25-50 scope. Its still a fun light weight gun but not impressed with the FX barrel, May try and polish the barrel and do a lap of the end of the barrel to get rid of the sharp edge, Might help, may not we will see,,, LOL we know why the Notos is called a money pit, No matter what you spend on it its still a 300 dollar gun, A 300 dollar fun gun, Its a pellet gun unsure of the FXbarrel but my range is 50 yards , So no matter what pellets will be the king in accuracy at that range , I am shooting the 18gr pellet's at about 800 fps and the 15 gr a little faster.
Unless you are just playing around and want to tinker with a gun its a good deal for a new guy, But for the same money you can buy a used Veteran, Vulcan, Uragan, Cricket.
That will make this built up Notos look like red Ryder BB gun..

Airgun Technologies  Uragan 3 177 600mm Tuning

Got a new rifle and it came to me doing 1029 fps, ~24.5fpe. I got it to hopefully shoot silhouettes and HFT so it needs to be >20fpe. I probably should have gotten a different gun but here we are. I’ve been reading a bit on tuning this type of rifle and have had some input on where to start with it by some helpful members. My initial testing has shown JSB exact 10.34 are really accurate and stable at 46yds. 10 shot groups at that distance were a touch over moa, using my fist as a rear bag, forgot my sandbag….

I started tuning today. My plan was to start by cranking the HS out 3 turns and the fps dropped a whole 7 fps on average. Next I pulled the valve and did 1/8 turn in, regassed to 250b and took another 1/2 turn out of the hammer spring, fps dropped down to 906fps. After a 10 shot string I had an es of 15. I put a 1/2 turn back in on the HS and the velocity shot up to the 940’s. I decided to get back into the valve and lower the setting a little more, though I started to turn the valve OUT (ccw) by accident then turned it in another 1/8 turn. After putting it all back together my fps went up to the high 960’s, I didn’t bother shooting more than a few shots and had to put it away for another day.

My initial impression is that I can get to >20fpe, with a stable enough shot string, es and sd, hopefully with no more than a little fiddling with the valve and HS. I was shooting at 12 yards and everything was going in the same hole but that’s really no indication of accuracy ime.

My plan is to get the speed down some more with the valve and then tune the HS tension over the course of a few days, letting the rifle sit between adjustments.

I have zero experience with a balanced valve and only slightly more with a Mrod from about a decade ago, I’m green to say the least. Any input is appreciated!

favorite gun/cal for South Florida iguana hunting

Hey all. Im new here and looking to upgrade from a cheap Umarex .177 to a PCP for iguana hunting. My dilemma is between .22 and .25. The .177 has done great over the years (well over 1000 iguanas) but struggles with the big boys. Looking for a tactical or bullpup style with a larger carbon bottle that's accurate and quiet. What are you guys using?

Pellet packing: Midway USA vs Pyramyd Air

I got both shipments today. Midway was cheaper by about $5 per 500-count tin. I ordered four tins from each company. With Pyramyd, you get the "buy 4, get 1 free" deal, though.
Well... after I ordered from Midway, I saw a post somewhere in this forum about their poor packing practices when it comes to air rifle pellets. And sure enough... Midway did not "disappoint!" They weren't padded AT ALL. Just some paper packing to take up some of the extra space in the box.

I haven't opened the tins yet, to see if there is a preponderance of deformed pellets in the Midway-sourced tins. I'll update the thread later.

Benjamin  Marauder - Need Help (resolved)

Ok. Gen2 LW .177 Mrod with Huma reg setup for FT.

Was at the range yesterday and checking everything. All was great. Small groups at 25/50y.

I ran some different pellets just testing some to see. After a few hundred rounds figured id pull a dry patch and get any excess out.
Like ive done a ton of times i unscrew the shroud, run a dry patch with a patchworm thru it twice.
Scrww the shroud back on and the 2 pellets i was shooting amazing with turned into shotgun groups. Wtf?!
There is no spring in my shroud and the baffles seem fixed.
So then i tried 2 wet patches and 2 dry and same thing.
Today i take the barrel
Off, replace the oring and inspect.
All lools fine. Ran it over the chrony and its spot on.
Wtf?!

Groups go from 1/4” at 25y to now over an inch!!

Ideas?

Issues with brand new GX CS4 compressor

Last week I received a GX CS4 compressor ordered directly from the company. Intended use is to refill the 580cc tank on my FX Crown. My first Dead head test after unboxing took 32 seconds to 300 bar. I topped off my Crown and it took about 5 minutes, very happy. Then the pump started having fills and or dead head tests that were VERY slow. Dead head tests to 300 bar started taking over 2 minutes, It was intermittent though, then would go back to 32/33, then back to over 2 minutes. Here's a video I did for GX support that shows a 2 minute plus dead head test, then letting it sit for 5 minutes to show no leaks. (video is Unlisted on Youtube, but can be accessed with the link)

GX support wanted me to try this:

If that didn't work, this:

I followed the instructions in the first video. After removing the check valve, it was all gunked up, so I cleaned. More gunk came out after running compressor for an hour with check valve removed. I never turned the grease knob previously and once again this is a brand new compressor. Cleaned out, reassembled and ran another test. Dead head test took 32 seconds, I was hoping for a better time, so I then did video number 2, removed the grease pot and flushing with water. Here what the grease pot looked like, this must be the air gap I've heard mentioned lol:

after flushing with water, I did 2 or 3 dead head tests and it's now down to about 30 seconds to 300 bar. Way better than 2 minutes, but most dead head results I've seen posted online are a few seconds better. Now I need to wait and test again as previously it usually seemed to do bad after sitting, then get back to GX with the results. If things seem like they are working good now consistently, then need to figure out how to deal with that grease pot. Anyway just wanted to share my experience so far...

PCP Rifle  SOLD FX Impact MK1 .30 Cal

*Price Reduced Again* 700.00 I bought this a few months back. It had an air leak through the weep hole by the grip. It turned out that the plastic Piston head in the regulator had cracked.
I ended up replacing the whole regulator and upgraded the piston head to a brass one. The previous owner included the MKII block with all of the necessary parts to install it.
It has been holding air for over a month. Performance was amazing at the range. Nickel size groups at 50. Loves JSB Knockouts as well as the 44.75's.

Scope & Bipod not included. 700.00 plus actual shipping. CONUS Only
If you want the scope & Bipod add 150 to the price.

Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking.

N/A  Cheapest option for groundhogs

Well, I need to post 10 times to DM on the classifieds, so might as well ask about what I'm here for. I need to get rid of about 5 or 6 groundhogs. Plenty of open space in my yard, I've read .25cal is ideal, but .22 cal is usable. I don't hunt; I only need it for pests. What's the most inexpensive option for dealing with them effectively?

EDIT: Someone suggested opening up the yard to local hunters, so if you're in the Pittsburgh area drop me a line.

Snowpeak  Finally: Cocking handle broke off! (M60B/Zelos)

Now it happened, the cocking handle of my M60B broke.
As it has always felt really flimsy, so i was kind of waiting for it, while being extra careful.
It happened when the hammer spring was increased, to give the HP valve a proper smack. but not while cocking, but somehow during the shot (recoil?), as i only realized when trying to re-cock for the next shot.

This will take me a while to fix. Seems like i will have to carve something from steel. Since i have no proper tools, it will be a job for an angle grinder, drill and file.
If anybody of the readers here has an idea what is the best way to proceed, please let me know. I bet i am not the first one with this kind of damage to the gun. Are spares available somewhere in the euro-zone?

Coma wheel direction

I am looking for a new scope and side wheel combination for field target. I really want a removable side wheel.
JD custom is what I have now. It is great. But I’m shopping around while they are restocking inventory.
I just discovered that the coma side wheels come in two directions. If the parallax wheel turns clockwise to increase magnification it is one type and if turning counter clockwise increases magnification it is the other style.
Can someone please show a picture of how it should be set up.

Petition to Allow Laser Range Finders in Field Target Competitions

Hi everyone,

We’ve just launched a petition asking the WFTF to consider allowing the use of Laser Range Finders in Field Target competitions. This change could make the sport more accessible, inclusive, and aligned with modern shooting practices.

If you believe in making Field Target more open to newcomers, HFT shooters, and those with visual or technical challenges, please take a moment to read and sign the petition

PCP Rifle  NLA WTS Panthera 700mm 22 cal

I got this in a trade and it had leak issue. It was sent off and just got it back and pulled it out of the box and it's holding air and shot some slugs thru it to check function and no leaks. I'm having to get out of PRS due to back issues so I'm selling this now. It's in great shape has a few small scuffs on it but in good shape. I bought a used saber tactical front for it and haven't put it on. It will come with that as well. It has the barrel weights (2) still in package. It has 2 factory mags and 2 aftermarket mags made by Orion. It will come with 2 boxes of Zan 33gr .218 slugs and a bottle full of H&N slugs as well. I never mounted a scope on to check accuracy. It has a digital gauge on the reg and saber tactical bag rider.
