Second new permission

A few weeks ago I got a new permission I decided to buy a night vision scope be I went to it.It finally came in the mail so I put it on the wild cat sniper. All I can say is should of bought one of these years ago 😳Got there a little early to check the place out.I ran into farm hand told him what’s up so he was nice enough to show me a few hot spots. All I can say is the 2 1/2 hour round trip
wasn’t a waste of gas😜

A Five Pack of Plinking/Pesting Goodness…

My Atomic XR loves the CPHPs and many pests would, if they could, testify as to the terminal performance out to 50+ yards. At $6.24 per tin? Oh yeah! 2500 rounds for less than $33? I still love my JSBs and AAs pellets, but my everyday pellets are the CPHPs.

How long do I rub on my Impact bore before I give up?

.30 Impact lost it's accuracy after about 1,000 shots. Decided to clean it. Took off the moderator and the barrel and ran patch after patch with Lead Wipe away, Ballistol, Goof-off spot remover, Brakleen and dry patches in rotation. None ever came out clean after at least a hundred passes total with the above mix. Picture is the Lead Wipe Away patch with two passes after about 15 minutes into it all. Patches are on a .22 rod and brush that works really well. Do I need to (yikes) scrape the bore with a .30 cal brush? I am not fond of that or JB paste since it had shot so well. Has been fed nothing but JSB 44 grain straight out of the tin and was shooting MOA at 100 yards with no wind. Barrel looked spotless right after the first patch...but I kept going till I gave up and replaced the breach O-ring, put the barrel back on and fired a shot out the back door. Sounded like a .223 with out the moderator in the cold Winter air ! I just cant comprehend why it is so dirty when my powder burners come clean with no residue very quickly :(

FX PANTHERA 600 (.25 cal)

The UPS man delivered the new Benchrest gun today. Wife wasn’t supposed to be home, so after a lengthy time out, I’m aloud to play now!! Lol.

First I want to thank Tom from High Pressure Pneumatics with all the great service and assistance with this. He personally called me several times while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do offering advice. After being stationed away from home for so many years, I’m finally home for awhile and just starting in the PCP venture this year. While I have an FT rig to finish setting up, I also wanted to be able to begin competing in Benchrest. After researching all of the choices over the last few years, I thought I was going to end up with an Impact or Redwolf, but after FX released the Panthera, I knew this was the one I wanted to try. The precision rifle look is what got me. While it is designed for the PRS, I believe it will do just fine in the benchrest.

The next thing was to decide on the 500 or 600. I'm still learning about all this stuff myself, but this is how I looked at it between the 500 and 600. According to the FX website the:

500 has a plenum size of 62cc + 300cc bottle = 362cc of air @ 56 shots with a 25.39 gr pellet at 880 fps.
600 has a plenum size of 156cc + 300cc bottle = 456cc of air @ 60 shots with 26 gr hybrid slug at 900 fps

Now my plan is to shoot pellets with this in bench rest. From what I've read and listened to folks talk about slugs is that it takes more air to push them. If that is indeed the case and I can get 60 slug shots (+or-), I should be able to in theory get several more shots with pellets. Also, 600 has more combined air capacity over the 500, which again in theory should equal more shots. I could be way off in left field with my thinking of how this works, but that was my thought process.

I don't need a 100+ shot count, just high enough to hopefully get through a bench rest match plus sighters. If not, I'll top off with air. The main objective is as long as I can do my part, is to be able to have a gun that can hit a nat's a$$ every time at 50 and 100 yds.. LOL..

First impression is holy smokes this is an awesome rifle!! I’ve only ever seen one other FX gun in person. Video doesn’t do justice to the quality. My Red Wolf is the same level of quality as well and I’m sure there are others, but this is what I have to judge by. The 600 is the perfect length I was looking for. It’s hard to tell in videos just how big or small a rifle really is.

Also is a pic of the shot string Tom did just before sending it out. Remember I had the pellet liner installed, so from what I’ve read and seen, that fps is on the high side of where I probably need to be with a pellet. This is how it came, so we will start there and then work our tune down. This is all a new learning experience for me. You think you know from reading and watching, but in my experience, hands on is the best teaching method for me.

Unfortunately I don’t have a chronograph yet for tuning and testing. I’m also trying to decide on a scope for it. So far my top 3 choices are Kahles, Sightron S8, and Valdada. I have a Kahles 1050i FT that I may mount just to get a few shots off this weekend. I’m also looking at a bipod, and the GRS has my interest at the moment. I’ll post more as I get to start tuning and testing. Should be interesting setting the this up for primarily pellets.

AA Pro Sport with Sports Match Scope Rings

I am mounting a scope on my recently purchased Pro Sport and I found decent reviews and recommendations for Sports Match scope rings with the recoil pin. I cleaned & degreased everything and mounted the scope rings on the Air Arms Pro Sport dovetail and for some reason the gap between the bottom of the scope rings and the top of the dovetail seemed excessive.

I'm assuming that it works based on the clamping force of the rings perpendicular to the dovetail, pinching tightly to the scope rail. Does anyone else have a similar setup and is the gap normal or do I need to consider a different set of rings?:

If the consensus is that I should consider different scope rings I would appreciate recommendations of a set of rings with the recoil pin.

Thanks - PJ

Notos delivered today

Ordered Monday night from Midway @ 233 bucks, arrived today before dark so I had some time to shoot. Quick review, it's not that quiet, sounds like my L2, it feels like my L2 also. Started out with crosman hp's, was getting decent groups @ 31yrds in windy conditions. Trigger is really hard to the point it will affect your groups. Tried FX 18gr. And the groups tightened up. I bought this gun for one purpose and that is to mount my pardnv008 and shoot rats at night in the back yard. It's extremely light weight. Overall I am satisfied and believe it will do what I want. At some point I will saw off the moderator and epoxy an adapter for my donnyl tanto.. Will do some chronograph test tomorrow. The safety in the trigger sucks, but I dont use it so I can live with it. I think the trigger can be improved, I hope so anyway. I own a Cricket, a Vulcan a leshiy 2 and some lesser airguns. If you keep in mind it cost very little and dont compare it to your high end guns, you're gonna be happy.

Beginner Air Pistol

Hi, I am looking for some advice on finding a good beginner air pistol. I am not sure if this will become a new hobby, so I would like to keep the associated expenses to a minimum. This would mean a pistol that does not need CO2 or a pump / tank for charging. This would seem to leave break barrel / spring guns as the main category. Thinking of a pistol so that it can easily be thrown into a backpack for covering some ground on foot without the need of a sling. In my search, I ran into the Westlake break barrel pistol as what might be the ideal form factor / size.

Reason for the post is that I believe the Westlake gun may be quite a vintage and not a totally reliable shot out past 20ft. It also does not seem widely available and therefore worth looking at alternatives. Could there be any recommendations for a decent beginner break barrel pistol with a wooden handle? Any general advice or leads for this search would be a boost!

SOLD """SPF""" BSA JSR Pistol FT comp gun.

I used this for a couple years for Pistol Field Target comps but last year I bought a Thomas which I use now for that sport so this gun just sits in the safe. Had maybe two tins through it. I hadn't shot it in 6 months but when I looked at the gauge yesterday there was still 150 bar in it so holds air great.

I bought it new from AOA for $750-ish and doubt if I have shot two tins through it. It has a good barrel and touches shots pretty easily at 20Y which impresses me for such a gun. I have it tuned at 11.5 fpe with 8.4 gr JSB but the original tune was 14 fpe from the factory. Everything works well and the trigger is around 10 oz.

As you can see I modified the grip to fit my hand and my hand size is medium. It really does feel nice especially with the thumb rest on the back of the grip. I have the original box and stuff that I'll include with the gun as well as the rear stock which I cut off in case you want to put it back to a carbine which will require some effort and skill to do.

I don't take PP anymore and prefer USPS money order or cashiers check from major bank.

$550 shipped to conus and I'm not opposed to trades. I can add money on my end if need be. I'm looking for a Vulcan 3 in 25cal, 34.9 gr NSA slugs, nicer rifle scopes, etc. Hit me up because it doesn't hurt to ask.

Lost my buddy

If you have a canine family member give them a special hug and kiss today

On Valentine’s Day my best baby boy Merlin passes in our arms in our bed. Exhausted from a year long battle with heart failure.

They have no voice but they are our forever wingman.
Merlin went everywhere and was the most kindest and non malevolent souls I have ever met.

I hurt so deeply inside.
No joy in my toys for now

The wood stocked version of the 362 is looking NICE!! . Check out the HAM article!
Can’t wait to get my mitts on one of these. Wish they were putting threaded barrels on them though.

Sorting Pellets by Weight -

Been sorting pellets this week:
After shooting last Summer with the RAW at 50 & 100 yards, head size didn't seem to matter (within reason) as much as pellet weight.
When I sort my JSB 18.1, 25.39's or 33.95's, most pellets in tim are just two head sizes (.01 apart). Now just sorting by weight.

Shot some (.25 cal) 33.95 and noticed a 1.3 grain difference lead to a 25 fps difference over the crony. Trying to determine realistic weight ranges for different pellets to keep ES around 10 fps. Right now sorting by .10 differences, but hope to go to .20 or higher for simplicity - if can reasonably expect a 10 fps ES.

I know, the lighter the pellet, the tighter the range will need to be because of the different masses.

All this assumes my regulator is constant - which is not realistic, but ......

Brocock Sniper XR Oppinions?

Anyone with a Brocock Sniper XR chime in? I'm looking at the .22 calibur will it shoot pelets and slugs with out having to swap things out? Is it easy to tune? How's the quality compared to a FX? Have you had any issues with it? How accurate is it out to 100yd? What's the diffrence between this and the Magnum? Is the Magnum woth the extra cost?

Just looking to plink, field and target shoot from 25-100yds. Looking for accuracy, adjustibiltiy and durability I guess would be my top 3 primary options.

What’s your best method to attract Doves and Pigeons?

How do you attract them? I’ve got a lot of pigeons and doves around my area. I’m positioned about 6 yards away from them and I’m shooting from inside the house. I’ve got an outdoor balcony, but I’m not familiar with the best ways to attract them. Let me know and thanks.

Using only 6 foot pounds of energy so no pass through as I don’t want to risk a ricochet.

Slugs- my experience

My battles with tuning guns for slug use have been as many others- trial and error. Until I met Steve from AVS . He educated me about variables involving slug success. Obviously proper tune, but , tune is length, weight, speed and twist rate of barrel dependent. Extensive testing and adjustments to garner the right projectile at the correct weight and speed for that barrel twist rate. But once there, you are golden.

What’s the most compact Hunting style rifle?

I was brought up on modern black rifle style platforms. I really want a classic hunting style repeater, possibly with wood stock. Only thing is I’m a smaller guy at 5’6 and have a strong preference for carbines and compacts due to the size and location of my yard

Can’t seem to find anything shorter than 35” and even then id have to add a few inches for moderator.

Any suggestions? I really like the look of the raw 1000 and the crown…
