Leaks-Check This First!

Leaks. A negative that goes with this pcp hobby. Before you stress out and feel like your whole guns gonna have to be in pieces, check the Dowty seal at your bottle to block connections first. It’s been my experience that these types of leaks start of really really minute, like less than 5 bar in 24 hours. It could easily be passed off as a pressure loss due to temp fluctuation. I monitor my air pressures regularly and have gone as far as permanently marking my gages with tape as a small leak if gone un noticed will eventually erupt into a large one at the worse time.

Dowty seals in my opinion are taken for granted as if you buy any commercially pre put together o ring kits for guns very rarely do they include the Dowty seals, as they can be reused. But understand they will go bad eventually, and it’s a part not readily available at your local Home Depot or ACE hardware. I source my Dowty seals from discounthydraulics.com, and typically buy each size 5 at a time.
This leak from my impacts bottle could barely be seen, and a flashlight was required-

Most Dowty seals for bottle fed guns are metric, size M12.
It’s very obvious the used one has had its day and is ready to go in the trash

So, I got a chronograph.....

So I got myself a Chinese-made E-9800X chronograph for $55 from Amazon. After setting some pellet weights into the memory I proceeded to run some shots through the device in my backyard, at about 50 deg F and 1K ft elevation. I don't have '10-shot strings' to report, still 'experimenting' with rifle(s) pellets and the chronograph itself (I did learn how to tape the battery cover on after the third shot blew it off ).

I managed to run 6 different pellets (3 shot strings) through both my HW30S & HW50S (both .177) to obtain FPS & FPE readings. The unit works quite well once you get the hang of muzzle placement relative to test tunnel entrance.

Based on my 'limited' experience I can say that H&N Excite Hammer 7.87gr domes was one of the most consistent performers I tried (658fps/7.57fpe-30S, 809fps/11.44fpe-50S) even though it's a relatively inexpensive pellet; hi-lo deviation 8fps/.18fpe on the 30S. The 50S seemed to like H&N Terminator 7.25gr (858fps/11.84fpe). Lightest pellet was H&N HP Sport (7.1gr; 666fps/6.99fpe-30S, 851fps/11.43fpe-50S) while the heaviest was H&N Barracuda XT (9.57gr; 547fps/6.35fpe-30S, 698fps/10.36fpe-50S). Got slightly disappointing results from the 50S with AA Diabolo 8.4gr (740fps/10.22fpe) but I think they are 4.50 skirt pellets(edit: 4.52 skirt). I'll keep testing them since I've got 4 tins.

This is my initial experience with a chronograph, but definitely not my last. I love the technical info obtained from testing and am posting it here for all to examine. Feel free to comment on my results and hopefully I'll get better at testing, recording & posting. I'm curious about things such as air temp, elevation, newness of my rifles (both brand-new, 50S has a Vortek SHO kit installed) and similar aspects of testing. Still learning every day! :D

Leshiy classic... hammer spring issue?

I successfully replaced all the o-rings and upgraded the gauge to the meazy after breaking the previous one. Holds air... my tune probably isn't the best but it's minute of chipmunk again and I'm off to the races! Except...

When I leave leshiy folded for more than a few hours, the next shot is very low powered. As in... shooting 3-4 inches lower at 30 yd. I thought I finally had my girl on her feet and now this 🫣

Anyone have any experience with this? Other people seem store theirs cocked with no issues but maybe 5 years of use has changed some things

Frankie's 1st coon!

I've been after this one for a few weeks now. Always waits me out in the tree over the fence, hence why I never take the shot. Well, I took my chances this time since the brush is still light, and my shoulder injury is a solid 90% healed.

Walked out to about 30 yards away and let a polymag say hello to this gal's face. Using the red torch on top of the scope to spot them, and it doesn't spoke them.

Down it went, right over my fence into the abyss. I never usually recover the bodies from there because it's so dense with that vine crap that loves to entangle power poles and old trees.

I hopped the fence and dug around a bit, making sure I brought Frankie with me, locked and loaded. Found her at the base of the tree, not moving, but I didn't hear the death dance coons are notorious for. I didn't give her a chance to trick me, I just put the muzzle and inch from the back of her head and put another polymag in her brain.

Sure as hell, she started flipping and rolling, doing the helicopter tail, making all sorts of noise! I waited a good five minutes to let her settle down and she was done.

Next coon I go for will get a harder pellet, neither pellet made it out of her head but both went in. I'll check in the morning to see exactly where I hit the first shot, but I could see the pellet in flight and it was dead nuts in the forehead between the eyes.

Frankie did get a couple scratches on the scope sunshade from rubbing on the fence when I leaned him against it so I could hop over. I'd normally be upset, but this was well worth the battle scars!

Would you eat this one?

Was out punching paper with the 25 carbine, AKA Frankie, and this poor bastard came out on my maple tree. He was scratching like crazy and wasn't concerned about me at all. I didn't change my focus so I couldn't see his coat in the scope, but I put a polymag into his head.

What's wrong with this guy? Besides the obvious head ache!

New to me Veteran .177

This gun and it's Grey stock have been around the country I think. Now it is in a forever home. I made a new butt pad as the ones being shipped now are not as comfortable as the old Ukraine ones. I plan on using it for HFT here in the panhandle of Florida. It sure shoots nice and is super comfortable at my shoulder. I have it zero set set 31 yards.
Sure do love those Veteran triggers.

Do you guys use IR very much ??

I do not but I ask because I ordered a brand new g3 monstrum on Amazon and the IR doesn’t work. I tried a different battery and still nothing. When I first turned the knob it turned on for a second and went off and won’t work now. I know I should send it back and Amazon is easy and awesome with that but I really want to set it up and shoot it. I honestly have never used the feature but it should work. What would you guys do ??
