Is Cape Fear Airguns Still Open?

Hi. i've been trying to get a hold of Newman at Cape Fear Ariguns and the Website is down, email is down and there is no returned calls left with voice mail. I sent in an Impact for repair and had been in direct contact with Newman. It was delivered but haven't heard a word since. I hope that everything is OK with Newman. Great guy.

FX  FX King @ 100yds

In the last couple trips to the range I have been comparing my 22cal FX King to my accurized 10/22. It kept up with the rimfire performance until 100 yds. It did get a bit breezy by the time I got out to 100yds. Though I am not displeased, I feel better groups can be achieved. I had the gun tuned by Justin W. In Arvin Ca. to shoot 34gr slugs 970fps. The ammo I’m using now is H&N precision 33gr/.218 slugs. Any suggestions on improving my 100yd groups would be gladly accepted.

Other  American made springers

Are there any American made springers worth 2 cents any more ? I have introduced a friend to this hobby recently, and he asked for referrals of something made in the states in the 400-500$ range. I'm drawing a blank. I have two Sig ASP20 rifles that we spent all afternoon and evening in friendly competition. He fell in love with those, but obviously they are no longer available, and I am NOT selling mine. Suggestions of any USA made springers that still have some quality ???

Resources  Field target is an arms race price test

This is a separate thread from the original Field target is an arms race thread.
I did not want to jack that thread.

This is a test of four rifles of different price points. They are all completely different in the way they shoot. But all have the same job.

I have been shooting field target for a long time and have been in a national competition. Three of these guns have been used in competition. All have done very well.

The price of the guns and scope range from 250, 500, 1000, 2000.

All of these guns are modified and tuned specifically for field target competition.
  1. Gun one is a Browning Leverage with a 4-12 UTG scope. It is tuned by the spring and trigger work. It shoots 8.4 @850 fps
  2. Gun two is a Diana 48 tuned to 18 ft lb with a 6-16 UTG scope shooting 8.4 @ 900 fps
  3. Gun three is a TX200mk III with a 5.5-25 scope shooting 8.4 @ 800 fps . This is a 12 ft lb gun
  4. Gun four is an HFT-500 that is highly modified by a professional and shot in competition by a professional. It is temporarily fitted with a 10-40x56 scope and is shooting 10.3 @850 FPS

For this test I am going to shoot all the guns with the scope set to 16 x

I’m going to be shooting from a bench at a 5.5x5.5 target card with a 3/8 circle in the center of the card. I will be shooting ten shot groups using the center ring as an aim point.

All the testing cannot be done at one time. Tonight I will shoot the 15 yards test . Then the longer range test when I get to the range over the weekend.

The first test is from a bench mostly indoors.
10 yards inside my shop and 5 yards outside.

I will shoot three cards with each gun. And select the best one. They all have such completely different triggers and require specific shooting requirements. But I know these guns. I’ll do my best.

The next test will be at 25 yards. And then 55 yards . I can say all are capable of hitting a 1 inch spinner at 55 yards so it should be fun to see the group size. The HFT can easily hit a 6mm rod at that distance.

FX  New FX DRS Tactical Gen-2. Parts are back from the Cerakoter and it looks impressive.

Finished this build today. I think the final results were worth the extra effort to have the Cerakoting done, it shoots better than it looks and I hope you like the end result as much as I do.
DRS Tactical Gen-2 500mm in .22cal. She came with externally adjustable hammer and regulator. Major improvements from FX with little to no fanfare.

I’d like to give a shout out to Joe Brancato of topgunairguns.com for making this build possible.

Help with Value of 1st Generation Benjamin Marauder Wood Stock

I found this Benjamin Marauder Beech wood stock in my late brother's belongings. It looks like it's never been used. Benjamin confirmed it's a 1st generation. It's 33" long. I would like to sell it, but I'm not a gun person, and have no idea of the value. It has one tiny nick in the wood (pictured). thank you...

What’s up with High Pressure Pneumatics?

I know a lot of people here have great things to say about HPP, so I made a purchase through them a couple weeks ago. There was a mistake on my order so I reached out to them via phone and left a voicemail at the shop number. Never heard anything back from them….. I waited seven days and then sent them an email with my issue. Still haven’t heard anything back. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but they’re not impressing me thu far. I hate to leave a company a bad review, but at this point I am considering it. Is this just a fluke or has anybody else had a similar experience?

Air Venturi  Interesting Avenge X shot string

Avenge X tube version. HN Field Target Trophy pellets at 20 gr. Reg set (I think) at 150B. Transfer port set to LO. Started at full fill of 300B and ended the shot string at 120B.
NH 20 gr TP lo.jpg

I have always questioned the regulator in this gun. I only plink at 25 yards in the backyard so no reputation or money is on the line here. When I set the reg, I degas and then slowly bring it up to 150B - that gives me good accuracy with the 25 grain pellets at 910 FPS - and leave it. When I go to shoot, the reg is always at 165B. This drops after the first shot but the regulator pressure is always dropping as I shoot. Today I wanted to see what would happen with the transfer port on low with the lighter weight pellets. 100+ shots were all hitting where aimed but doesn't the graph look like an unregulated gun where the first shots are low because the hammer can't overcome the pressure; then you hit a zone where things kind of flatten out because the drop in pressure gets the hammer happy; and finally the velocity falloff when the speed is just being dictated by the pressure.

With an SD of less than three over 100+ shots I'm not unhappy but it just doesn't seem like the regulator is working great or maybe not at all. Again, all I do is shoot at clay pigeons in the back yard and then keep shooting pieces until I have dust. Over this string every shot was hitting POA consistently so maybe I just shut up and forget about it. Using the HI transfer port setting with the 25 grain pellets I get the same kind of curve with a little higher SD and a 60 shot count before the velocity really starts to drop.

I'm just looking for any opinions. In my mind, regulation means a constant pressure to a fairly high degree at the plenum until the tank pressure gets below the reg setting and the velocity drops. I suppose this could also be some sort of a tuning thing but I've gone over that by adjusting to the knee and backing off a bit and I do see pretty good accuracy with decent SD numbers.

AirMaks Arms  Katran standard 22 power question

Hey all, so I'm tuning on a friend's katran standard in 22 cal with a tube and wanted to know if anyone can tell me a couple things. Im tuning it to shoot 21 grain javelin slugs, im currently sitting at 170 bar on the reg and im maxing out around 910 fps. Now, its shooting accurate, but shot count is not great at about 26-30 shots.

Now, I had been playing with it with 23 grain javelin and had the reg(on accident) at 200+ bar and at that was screaming the 23 grains at 970. I do not have a reg pressure tester, and since there's no gauge for the reg I am simply going off the speed starting to drop off which also goes in tandem with the shot sound.

Now with the 21 grain, it is following suit as when I drop the reg to 150 bar, speed falls to 880 or so. I really didn't think I'd have to push the reg that high to get the power up like that but it appears so.

Does this sound on par for power and shot count out of this platform? Would playing with the internal valve adjustment change much with power or efficiency? I own a katran compact in 22 so am pretty familiar with the platform, and in playing with power with that I could achieve 18 grain pellets at 865 with reg about 150 bar, so I guess I was expecting to be able to push more out of the standard with a few extra inches of barrel.

N/A  Slug Uniformity and Accuracy

So I was thinking. I just got some Altaros slugs and the uniformity is beyond anything I’ve seen with standard pellets and slugs. So this got me thinking. I’m wondering if part of the reason they are accurate is that they are uniform and don’t have any surface defects to swing them off course. (Super high BC aside)

Notice all the weird artifacts inside the hollow point and rough / uneven nose on the standard slugs.
