Tom Holland - xbowsniper

Just saw this sad news posted by Dave over on GTA, relayed from a FB post by Harold Rushton.

"Unfortunately, we must say a final farewell to our long time Field Target friend, Tom Holland. As I understand it, Tom passed away on Tuesday night. He was an avid airgun tinkerer, pellet connoisseur and all around good guy. Tom was also a very accomplished crossbow archer having won many titles over the years. RIP Tom. You will be missed. 😢

FX Impact M3 Sniper .25 700mm Erratic fps

Hi Guy/Gals this is my first post , so go easy please.

I am in the UK and own several other air rifles / rim fires/ centre fires etc, so it's not my firs day at school.

Bought this rifle brand new in December last year, it has been shooting fine, but all of a sudden it's started varying it's speed, I have a digital gauge on the 2nd reg and I have it set to 130 bar I was shooting H&N 34 gr slugs at 960 fps, when you fire it the gauge drops from 130 to 127 then returns to 130 bar within 6 seconds I shot over 2 chronographs just to confirm that it's not my chronograph. but now its changing from 960fps down to 780fps then 900fps but the reg pressure remains constant, but it won't shoot a group which is understandable concidering the variation in speed. so does anybody have any ideas?

TIA

9000psi compressor? This the next evolution in airguns?

Ever since I saw the AEA Defender I've wanted to get my hands on one. The air cartridges is a really interesting concept and I believe in this technology.
So Joerg Sprave came out with a video yesterday showing some new tech from China (Huben pistol and AEA), at the end he talks about a new compressor that can do 9000psi or 620bar.
He shot a double barrel harpoon gun at 6500psi/450bar. This is really interesting but one worry I have is if say I was wearing a ammo belt filled with 9000psi cartridges. If one malfunctions it will be like a hand grenade going off on my belt/chest.

So is 9000psi/620 bar about to become the next revolution in airguns? Since the air bottles would have to become thicker, would you actually gain any extra shots if the bottle had the same outer diameter? How bad would it be if the tank burst? I've seen 4500psi tanks blow up and it would be really bad if you stood next to one.
What speeds would we be looking at with 9000psi shots in say .22 .25. 30 etc? Airguns would basically gain the same powers as some guns, I can see this leading to airguns being highly restricted or requiring a license.

65 yds.

Yesterday that foolish groundhog at the corner of the neighbors drive let me see him. MISTAKE!!!! I had previously lasered the pine tree the hole is under at 61 yds from my window. By the time I got the gun out and window open he had wondered down the edge of the disced field in the lawn eating grass. Bipod rest on the window sill and a printer cart. Umarex Gauntler 2, .25 cal, H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 28.24 grain. He didn't like it. Rolled on his back with legs twitching. Full 5 seconds later he managed to roll back over and make it back to the hole. I walked over a bit later and found a patch of bloody grass, so he just did me a favor and fouled the hole by crawling down there to expire. Pretty dang impressive to me because I've been using a .22 rimfire with subsonic rounds to keep the neighborhood in from complaining. I've now taken it another big step in that direction.

Special Pellgun

Very unique but strange air rifle listed on Gun Broker, it is a M300M Special Pellgun they call it. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this rifle as it looks very nicely engraved with nice wood. However, not sure if it is actually a PCP using air or something else. Check it out and let me know if you ever heard of this brand if you would. Thanks. Mike. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/981743701

55 @65 with the Evol mini

Today I needed trigger therapy bad.

My daily driver fought me all week out of no where, today it showed why with a catastrophic engine failure. It was cheap throwaway car and I'm not mad about it , it owed me nothing. Many cross country trips, camping trips, etc , etc but it did cause me a bit of stress.

After that my phone which was wounded also died, well hear I am with a new phone (you'd think the cost of these things would go down by now?! But the keep going up , my gosh)

So I decided to continue my trend of 5 mags or 55 shots but stepped back out 10 yards more from my last time.

I took a few sighter groups to figure out the hold on my 35 yard zero and then shot my 5 consecutive mag group. Oh did I mention while I was loading the mag my new phone rang (I'm always on silent) and caused me to become distracted and I dropped an entire tin of 15.89 hades that was freshly opened?!? Thanks Tim ( @SMH ) lol jk it's all good, hopefully congrats on what we were discussing at the time!

Anyways here it is. Happy shooting. You guys are great.

ALSO ANY OF YOU WHO HAD MY NUMBER PLEASE TEXT ME AND TELL ME WHO YOU ARE, I WAS UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO BACKUP EVERYTHING

AirGuns of Arizona

I never do reviews, but I took the time to register to this forum in order to do a review of Airguns of Arizona. I bought my first air gun from them (Western Rattler), after doing a lot of research, (maybe too much). Anyhow, once I received the air gun, I found it to have very poor build quality (most of the reviewers are bias and benefit from a positive review...I believe). I never even looked at Airguns of Arizona's return policy before ordering. I called them the very next day and explained that it was not anything that they done wrong, I just wasn't happy with the quality of the gun. They had no problem with me returning it, and even ask me if I wanted to shoot it before I returned it. These guys are fantastic! I would VERY HIGHLY recommend that anyone in the market for an air gun, take a look at them first. Other stores will charge you a 15% restocking fee and only give you store credit if they accept a return at all. Another well-known store in Utah advertises on their site that "ALL GUNS AND AMMO SALES ARE FINAL".

Geeze ... Don't move your head around in the eyebox

UNLESS you wish to see your eye IS NOT centered !!!

Now comedy aside this is just an FYI that honestly caught me off guard & I am well aware of trying to find a natural eye centering o_O

This started with the mounting of a Tactical Green Laser on the SKOUT ( No not a Skout thread ) to give me a Zero range reference marker.
WHOA !!! yea a nice green dot at 38y superimposed over scopes X cross position ... THAT WAS UNTIL starting to move my head around

What had been parrilax focused to a crisp image within optics OBVIOUSLY was not parrilax free !!! Bobbing my head around within the eye boxes clear FOV edge to edge / top to bottom had the laser dot doing just off center orbits around the X of crosshairs. WTF !!!!

Only when taking the average in all directions did the dot sit centered with X.

Moral of the story if shooting for max precision, EYE POSITION MATTERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your usual nonbench rifle shooting position?

Newbie question.

EXCLUDING any form of benched position, which rifle shooting position do you favor, and is it the same one that gives your most accurate results?

I like sitting on the ground, with support leg bent and that foot flat on the ground, nonshooting arm’s tricep steadied by the bent knee. Kneeling position is less stable for me, and standing less than that. I have not tried shooting while prone.

Photos on this site show a lot of sitting at a bench, and I wonder if that reflects what most people usually do.

We Need an AGN Hall of Fame

I was thinking that an AGN Hall of Fame would be entertaining for members who have come and gone and whose presence left an indelible mark on this community. Some folks have come and gone, but presented some of the most zany and outrageous content on these forums. A lot of the time their names have been erased or deleted and their posts now read “Guest” or “Deleted…” One of the most memorable guys I’ve seen the past couple of years was CheckUrSix. I may have him mixed up with another member, but he’s posted some funny stuff too. The guy I have in mind came into the forums calling out a known competition benchrest shooter and some of the banter that ensued was absolutely hilarious!! Especially when the guy posted videos of his skills shooting into the mud instead of targets.

On occasion I see something that reminds me of members like this. Sometimes the forums can be entertaining. I don’t mean this to be malicious, just a little ribbing. Who do you remember similarly?

Missed more than I hit.

I made a quick trip to the farm today on the ATV. It has been months since I was out there. I am rusty as heck with the pest control game - but had a good time. I am still working on the Tactacam - I have a long way to go to rival the rest of y'all.

One of the solid hits I made.
One where i gave just a haircut
And one where I shot the squirrel through the spine.

18” LW barrel is pretty amazing

I’ve been shooting a variety of projectiles out of my modified Talon P at about 30 yards. This has an 18” .25 LW barrel and doug noble hammer and spring (valve should be incoming one of these days).

First, the JSB heavies shoot very consistently. I guess I should expect this, but I didn’t get any flyers and basically all of the shots that deviated much from the sim point i think clearly reflected my own issues with timing and movement.

I then tried a few slugs that I cast:

1. MP molds 48 grain round nose
2. NOE 50 grain BBT (FN and HP)
3. NOE 60 grain BBT (FN and HP)

They all basically went to the same spot, and only a little bit of windage adjustment was needed for the 50 grain BBT. All three of these shot at least as well as the JSB in my completely non-scientific experiment. The reason I was comparing these is I was thinking there would be a clear-cut choice for which was the best projectile to cast for that choked barrel but at this range I was able to get similar sized groups for all of these. I assumed the JSB would be obviously most accurate, but not so much. I might as well cast my own rather than purchase those at this point since they all exceed my personal shooting accuracy.

In this set, the MP molds seems like it was slightly more accurate but that could just be luck and I will probably end up casting this one just because it’s a Six cavity mold and works very well.

Fx crown setup

Hi, I picked up a .177 crown mk2 (500mm) on my way home from work today, got home and the first thing i was doing was meassure the fps on the pellets/slugs i have to see Whats best before sighting in my scope. And straight out of the box it shot "meh" 500fps with jsb monster. The reg was set at 110bar, port at high and 23 on the last knob. I have tried to adjust alot and mix things up, but if I increase the reg it only slows down, so now im down to 90bar and my best pellet/slug is jsb KO 13.4gr @ 750fps, thats about max of what I can get out of this, the monsters is around 720 on same setting. The accuracy is amazing and it shoots consistent and Nice. But something in me i think expected more after seen some YT vids of the Gherard guy shooting 20gr slugs with 177 crown with reg on 155bar, high port and low hammerspring and getting 850 fps but that is with 100mm longer barrel tho.

But very happy with it if this is the limit ofc.

For sale is my FX Dreamline Tact Compact in ,177 caliber. This one is the bottle version and has the additional plenum. Comes with one magazine and adjustable Hogue AR buttstock. Scope, rings and moderator are not included. This is very nice for backyard pesting or target shooting. Firm price is $1050 shipped to your CONUS location. I no longer use Paypal but will accept cashiers check or USPS MO. PM me for more info.
