Theoben  First day of testing the .22 Theoben Evolution

20230720_175245.jpg

I finally got my probe to tweek the piston pressure in yesterday. I bumped it up so it was throwing the 15.89gr JSBs at 600fps/12.9ftlbs last night but before I got a chance to shoot more than a group it got too dark out. Today was the day though! Little bit of a breeze but no more that 5 mph.

Average group at 35yds was a little disappointing at 0.7" but I did choke on a few shots so I'll give the gun the benefit of the doubt some. I'll use the excuse that I'm working on finding the right hold and definitely need to get used to the trigger too. Aside from that, this gun is an absolute dream to shoot. It cocks easy, its very quiet, and the shot cycle is just a quick but gentle snap. Im pretty sure I saw every shot I took fly through the air and land on target.

Tomorrow I'll be testing a better assortment of ammo. We'll see how the lighter JSBs, FTTs, and CPs do. I'm also very curious to see how the Norma pellets manage. Those have been very suprising in quite a few guns already.

Lift / Dwell Quiz

This is a trick question for some, and a simple one for others.

1).What is the biggest contributing factor that:

a) Changes the relationship between lift/dwell in a pcp at a GIVEN energy level (changing a variable while keeping energy output the same, so for example a 20 fpe .22 cal, what can you change while keeping power at 20fpe that alters the lift/dwell relationship the most)

2) Whats the second biggest contributing factor that does the above?

I'd make this multiple choice, but that is rather not fun.

I paid for the experience.

I wanted to have the experience of shooting and owning a Daystate with a computer but did not want to invest the price of a new one.

After some years of thinking about it, finally I decided buying a used Red Wolf in .22 Cal in good shape would be a good alternative.

I found one in the used rifles section of AoA and called Jared Clark and asked him to replace the 480 cc bottle for a 700 cc bottle and also to change the battery for a new one in order to try to minimize risk of having problems (maybe it will help).

Once changes asked and the corresponding inspection is made, the rifle will be on the way.

Notwithstanding I have the blessing of having more than enough very accurate rifles in all calibers I use for hunting and shooting, I wanted to have the experience of a Daystate with a computer. I will have to learn how to adjust the electronic settings. This rifle is not as adjustable as a Delta or an Alpha, I know, but I do not like to be playing around with the setting of my rifles.

Apparently I will not die before shooting a Daystate with a computer.

For many of you that is daily experience, so not much to expect from my experience once I receive it, but anyway I will tell you my feelings about the rifle once I receive it.

Beeman  Extremely rare and interesting Beeman P1

I recently purchased this P1 from its original owner. It clearly has a 20th anniversary serial number. The original owner stated the grips shown here were on it at purchase and he knew nothing about any anniversary edition and that he had always assumed it was early production because of the serial number. We all know that the earliest P1s had serial numbers starting at 300000 and came from San Rafael. This being from the Santa Rosa address. I sent a message to Weihrauch asking if this gun was indeed 1 of 150. Weihrauch answered yes and that it was likely an anniversary gun. Here is where it gets interesting. Beeman catalog 17 shows not only reduced sale prices on the anniversary guns but a new dual tone model with standard grips. The grips are very plain without the usual badges or diamond pattern around the screws.

A close look at the new model in the catalog shows a P0 serial number. Interesting is the fact that it was also only available in the same two calibers as the anniversary offerings. From this information I have deduced whether right or wrong that Beeman was likely unable to sell all 150 anniversary guns and dumped the rest as a new model. Any experts out there that can prove otherwise? Either way like the title says it’s an interesting P1.

  • Question
Newb need advise on scope ring height

So I need to purchase some scope rings for my new toys, FX Maverick Sniper combined with an Element Helix scope. Every other scope I’ve ever received always came with one and I accepted the ring mount height. So now that I need to get one is there a lot of difference in the manufacturer and quality? Especially from the same manufacturer, because there sure are differences in price. Am I wrong in thinking that the taller height would give my neck a break looking thru so I don’t have to cock my head too much over rifle?

My Panthera .22 cal is hands down the most accurate PCP I have ever owned

I have owned the M3, MK2, Maverick, Dreamline, Wildcat, and many other brands. I must say…this rifle is totally different.

So interesting story for today. These guys next to me were shooting .243 and a .300 win mag. They had targets out to 300 yards. Then, they decided to shoot at a clay pigeon they had set up at 215 yards. Bang bang bang. They shot so many times…not one could hit it…and damn was it loud! I’m sitting there watching for a solid 5-10 minutes lookin at them miss through my rangefinder. Then I say “wait…let me try” in my head. I ask them if I can take a shot at it. They say sure thing. Cool guys. Mind you 215 yards and I’m shooting 24.8 grain Nielsens close to 1000 FPS btw. I plug in the data in the ballistics calculator (I’m on power 5 and I forgot to input that velocity in)…so my first shot goes high. But I’m talking directly above high. Wind doesn’t even push it. I adjust and I barely miss it by millimeters on the second shot.

Adjust down one more time (this is a hold under)…I tell the guy who is spotting my shots for me “third times the charm.” I shoot and the thing bursts. 3 shots and I nail it at 215 yards. If I had realized that I had the power turned up a little higher, I don’t think I’d have needed 2 extra shots. If that was a turkey at 215 yards…I would’ve got it no sweat on the second shot. 100% my most accurate PCP. That guy spotting next to me said “well I guess we know who the sharpshooter of the group is.” Lol.

Pic below is a 5 shot group at 52 yards. 0.38 inches shooting NSAs at near 1000 FPS (it might be over 1000 FPS…I was using a $25 Chinese chrony so that may be why I was shooting higher when I dialed for 215 yards)

I was also shooting varmint knockers at 1050 FPS on micro 2 and reg at 115! Those grouped pretty darn well too. Sub-MOA.

Concerns with Prophet 2 Magazine Location Realized Today

Since the day I received my RTI Prophet 2 I did not like the location of the magazine. No matter how I held the gun, the magazine was either right under my ear or my eye. It is uncomfortable and raised some "back of my mind gnawing at me" safety concerns the more I shot it. I was getting small puffs of air in my ear or eye every shot and have been wanting to get a cheek rest that completely shields my face from the magazine area.

Well, today I was testing some ammo, loading single shot from my indoor bench and I think my head kept moving farther back on the gun with each shot. After a few rounds, I pulled the trigger and apparently the cocking handle was not fully forward. When the hammer fell I got a very loud, MASSIVE blast of air right into my right eye. Fortunately I always wear safety glasses so there was no damage that I can tell other than I am guessing I will have a black eye under the eyeball. It was pretty painful even with the glasses deflecting most of the blast. Once I had composed myself and checked for blood on my face, I went to a mirror and I fully expected, by how it felt to have some visible damage to my eyeball and / or the skin around it but there was just a slight amount of ruptured capillaries in the white of the eye like you would see with a bad case of hayfever.

From today forward, I will be laying a thick rubber mat over the magazine area until I get a well built cheek rest that will totally shield my face from any air coming out of the chamber area. I am also going to triple check to make sure the cocking mechanism is fully forward and latched!

PCP Rifle  SOLD Fx crown mk2 walnut 3 caliber special

This is a feeler to see if I should sell or not.

I have a practically brand new crown mk2 (less than a tin theough it) that I purchased in 22cal with 600mm barrel. I purchased a 22cal 280mm barrel for it and shot it for a while. I then purchased a 30cal 500mm barrel and a 25cal 500mm barrel kits for it and a bullet central barrel tension system with shroud for the 500mm barrels.
So it will come with all these barrel setups with mags and probes. The 22 and 30 have factory side shot mags, the 25 setup has an Orion mag.

Comes with favors hard case and all paperwork, all battles, bullet central kit, saber tactical bottle clamp, tuxing 580cc bottle, and will throw in the Donny FL fx moderator in 22 that originally came with it

No scope or bipod included.

Would like to get $1900 shipped for everything, or shoot me an offer for it without certain barrel kits or barrels. I’m open to ideas.

Thanks for looking!

***will trade for evol 30cal magnon, prs, or paradigm***

Projectiles  SOLD JSB .22 pellets for sale

As you can see by my profile I haven't been active in a while. At this point I don't have any .22 airguns (only .177 now), but I do have some high quality .22 ammo I would like to sell:

JSB Hades 15.89 grain - 3 full tins of 500 plus one partial tin of 228 - $51.00 plus shipping. Sold.
JSB Exact Jumbo Monster 25.39 grain - 4 full tins of 200 - $34.00 plus shipping. Sold to lwm211
JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.13 grain - 4 full tins of 500 plus one partial tin of 165 - $56.00 plus shipping. Sold to lwm211
JSB Exact Jumbo 15.89 grain - 4 full tins of 500 plus one partial tin of 326 - $70 plus shipping. Sold

Some of these tins are unopened with the factory tape seal. Some have been opened at some point in the past couple of years, but I have verified they are full tins. These are the ones with blue tape around the edges in the photo. The number of pellets in the partial tins was verified by weight - not individual count.

Shipping - CONUS only - Priority Mail preferred - I can calculate shipping once we make contact. I'll have to create a box depending on what you may want. Unfortunately, I don't have any of those great pellet shipping boxes.

Payment by PayPal friends and family or add 3% if you'd rather choose the commercial payment option.
