How accurate is your chronograph?

A chronograph Is a device that measures speed. Most all measuring devices or tools can be checked or calibrated in some way by using what’s called a standard that’s traceable to NIST
(The National Institute of Standards and Technology)
My question is how do YOU know if your chronograph is actually functioning accurately? Do you even know if it’s accurate when it’s new? How do you check your chronograph to make sure it’s accurately reading true?

Wind, and groupings.

Just got through embarrassing myself again at 100 yards shooting groups. Now I feel wind plays a serious factor, especially swirling winds that change direction often. Even at low levels, about 4-6 mph. Now I was consistently shooting 3/4” 5 shot groups at 50 yards. Best being 1/2” group. But at 100 yards? 3” to 3.25” . This has usually been 3 within an inch 1 about 3/4” away from them and the last more than 1.5 inches from any others. Would those wind conditions affect 40-42 grain slugs like that? Because if you do a straight extrapolation, my groups should only expand to 1-1.5” even with my limited skill. The 50 yard results appear to back that.

pay it forward

My wife and myself when for a meal at somewhat expensive restaurant.
We had a good meal and when finish I asked for check.
The waitress just smiled and said a woman had paid for it .
I ask who she was and was told she had left the restaurant
I ask if I could at least get the tip she said no that was taken care of also.
Now we were 200 miles from were we live so it could not be someone we know.
And here we have two outstanding people in this world that make us feel just great.
You ask 2??
First the woman who started this and the the waitress who could easy have said no she didn't leave a tip and got one from us.

At the start of this post was Pay it forward , you know how great this made my wife and myself feel I MOST SURLY WILL pay it forward

GX CS4 Power Supply Issues

I’ve had a GXCS4 for almost a year and it has been working great I added 1 turn grease at the 6 hr mark. Pumped again and the power supply shorted out with a visible arc

Bought a new power supply while waiting for the replacement one from GX. I got a “nicer” supply from Amazon that was 12V 83.3a for a total of 1000w. It had over volt and current protection. When using it the pump seems like it tries to start then immediately shuts off. Received the new supply and the pump works with it but still worried about another arc / blowout

I noticed the provided supply was 13v at 50a for 650w. This is very confusing with everyone only using 12v. Why does the 13v 50a supply work fine but 12v 83.3a supply does not?

Thanks for any insights

2024 TEXTREME GRAND PRIX MATCH REPORT

DAILY, persistent, and ongoing forecasts for high possibilities of rain and storms virtually every hour not only over the last several weeks, but throughout our three-day competition weekend certainly suppressed turn-out for the TEXtreme leg of the 2024 Extreme Field Target Grand Prix. Of course, considering the match director invested countless hours of heart, soul, blood and sweat 🥵 preparing for the biggest event in TEXtreme history.

But despite paranoid meteorologists’ doom-and-gloom forecasts, the suppressed turnout nevertheless equalled TEXtreme’s attendance record. That we experienced not a single drop of precipitation during any of the the three matches not only reinforces my distrust of weather forecasts, but lends some credibility to my refusal to cancel or postpone this Grand Prix.

Not to suggest pre-match rains didn’t transform some lanes into an obstacle course of mud-holes and treacherous footing. Nor wasn’t the heat/humidity index also challenging enough in itself. Neither will I infer said mud-holes lent any advantage to the smallest, lightest, most buoyant competitor; surely that results phenomenon is pure happenstance/coincidence.

I should apologize in advance for making this match report as short as possible. The alternative would be delaying a more detailed report until I recover from the exhausting three-day weekend.

That several much younger competitors confessed their exhaustion yesterday gives perspective to the septuagenarian match director’s physical and mental state after not only slogging through the three-day obstacle courses of shooting competitions, but doing so after three weeks of similarly-‘taxing’ course preparation and grooming WORK. So in order to not further delay the match report, I’ll rely heavily on Art Womack’s selfless assemblage of spread-sheets detailing “the rest of the story”. A million thanks, Art!

In SUPERHUMAN fashion, Derrick Wall won all three weekend matches! His 57/60 Friday pistol match score was one point better enough to capture the Pistol Match Winner $350 Airguns Of Arizona gift certificate, Match Winner gong, custom gold (colored) pellet pouch, Match Winner engraved TEXtreme pellet-tin set, and Match Winner hat pin.

Caleb Dickinson was close behind with a 56/60 to capture the Second Place $250 AoA gift certificate, silver(ish) colored custom pellet pouch, and Second Place engraved TEXtreme pellet-tin set.

Billy Davison’s 54/60 got him the Third Place $150 AOA gift certificate, a bronze(ish) custom pellet pouch, and set of three Third Place engraved TEXtreme pellet tins.

Good show, Pistoleros! (y)

Derrick Wall went on to also post the highest scores in both rifle matches; shooting a perfect 60/60 in Saturday’s uncharacteristically light-winded match, and a near-perfect 59/60 in Sunday’s characteristically-windy match. For those superhuman, 119/120 aggregate efforts Derrick captured $1000 in Airguns Of Arizona Rifle Champion CASH, an $899 Athlon Heras SPR 15-60X56 rifle scope, the Rifle Champion engraved gong, gold (colored) custom pellet pouch, set of three Rifle Champion engraved TEXtreme pellet tins, a Match Winner hat pin, three 2024 EFT Grand Prix points, and as I understand it, the Extreme Field Target 60 and 120 shot NATIONAL RECORD scores. UTTERLY PHENOMENAL SHOOTING, DERRICK!:oops:

Reigning Extreme Field Target National Champion Caleb Dickinson came second in both rifle matches with a 55 on Saturday and 53 on Sunday; his 108/120 aggregate good for the Second Place Rifle bounty- $500 in Airguns Of Arizona Second Place CASH, a $250 Airguns Of Arizona Second Place gift certificate, a custom silver(ish) pellet pouch, a set of three Second Place engraved TEXtreme pellet tins, and two 2024 EFT Grand Prix points. Great shooting, Champ!

Paul Bracaglia, aka- Pablo, shot a 55 on Saturday and 51 on Sunday for a 106/120 aggregate Rifle score. Pablo’s fine effort was good for the $250 Airguns Of Arizona Third Place CASH, $250 Third Place AoA gift certificate, a custom bronze(ish) pellet pouch, a set of three Second Place engraved TEXtreme pellet tins, and one 2024 EFT Grand Prix point. Fine shooting, Pablo.

Brian Stafford captured Fourth Place in the Rifle competition virtue of impressive consistency demonstrated with excellent scores in both rifle matches; 53/60 on Saturday and 52/60 on Sunday for an excellent 105/120 aggregate. Brian came away with the $250 Airguns Of Arizona Fourth Place gift certificate, and $150 in Airguns Of Arizona Fourth Place CASH for his efforts. Excellent shooting, Brian.

David Turner also exhibited excellent consistency in the Rifle competition to capture the Fifth Place podium position. His 51/60, 50/60, and 101/120 aggregate got David the $150 Airguns Of Arizona Fifth Place gift certificate, and $100 in Airguns Of Arizona Fifth Place CASH. Good Shooting, DT.

Although our schwag-bags were small, good things often come in small packages. Star of the schwag were Patch Worm bore cleaning kits provided by my buddy Joe Peacock. Unfortunately Joe’s website is currently experiencing technical issues, but I’ll provide the link as soon as his airgun products website is accessible. Many thanks, Joe!

A mutual buddy of Joe’s and ongoing TEXtreme sponsor, Jerry Cupples provided PelletGage notebooks for schwag. TEXtreme Airgun Sports provided sets of three engraved gold (colored) pellet tins. Jim Martin donated Trailers Plus Sales (in Weatherford, Texas) ballpoint pens. Caleb Dickenson provided ear-plugs, to avoid hearing-damage litigation resulting from his rifle’s muzzle report.😵‍💫 And Airguns Of Arizona provided AoA stickers. That’s a lotta neat stuff in little schwag bags; but reminds me we not only ran short of schwag bags, but I forgot to assemble more (as promised). Anyone shorted should PLEASE remind me so I can make reparations! 🥺

I can’t thank Airguns Of Arizona ENOUGH for their most generous and ongoing sponsorship from TEXtreme get-go. In this case alone AoA stepped up with over $3000 in cash and gift certificate donations.🤯
THANK YOU, AIRGUNS OF ARIZONA!!!

For the second year in a row sponsoring the TEXtreme leg of the Extreme Field Target Grand Prix series, Athlon Optics stepped up with a generous donation of an Athlon Heras SPR 15-60X56 rifle scope; an outstanding Field Target specific scope. MANY THANKS, ATHLON!

Friends, please support the generous sponsors that support your airgunning passion. Without their support these excellent airgun competitions would be much less, if existing at all.

Lastly I want to thank everyone else that helped in so many ways, as well as everyone that attended the TEXtreme leg of the 2024 Extreme Field Target Grand Prix national competition series. Maggyy and I had a ball, and hope you all enjoyed yourselves despite less than ideal shooting conditions. We love you all! 🥰

Happy Shooting,
Ron & Maggyy

FWB  Am I the only one who can't shoot a FWB 124...?

I'm a collector of quality (mostly) piston powered airguns. I've had 4 different FWB 120 series rifles over the years and not one of them has ever shot well for me. I mention that I'm a collector because I want to stress the point that I have numerous piston guns and only 3 or 4 of them produce unacceptable accuracy. I've tried a soft hold, a loose hold, a firm hold, and a tight hold. I've tried countless types of pellets and ruled out scope issues. The only thing that I can think of is that although none of my other rifles have a problem being shot off of a bag, perhaps these guns do. Some of you have seen my channel and you've seen what kind of accuracy that I can achieve while shooting off of a bag.
I just picked up a 127D and cleaned out the old wax like remnants of what used to be the original FWB seal. I ordered and installed new seals ( piston and breech seals) along with an ARH full power kit.
Sat down this evening for the second shooting session with it to try to get it zeroed and I can't get any sort of consistency out of the POI. That's 4, 120 series rifles that I've owned now that I can't extract any accuracy from. Is it time for me to toss in the towel and accept that me and the old FWB Sports will never see eye to eye?

Brocock/BRK  Ghost Carbine Three Groups at 40 yards…

Am still getting acquainted with the Ghost Carbine after the work day today the wind was basically still. So I sent these three, five shot groups, bipod front, shoulder as rear bag. Am certain these could be tighter, but am not a benchrest shooter… The goal was to try and achieve similar trajectories with the JSB Exact Jumbo 18s and the CPHPs 14s. The JSBs sent with the PW on 10, the Crosmans, PW on minimum. Holding dead on for both loads at 40 yards. As you can see any small pest is in serious danger with either load.

Family of woodchucks discovered - popped one and then . . . poof! The corpse disappeared (?)

Hey there guys . . . readers digest - I got a call from a neighbor re: chuckie having setup residence underneath his workshop. Sure enough s/he's a biggun'! I wasn't able to get it (him/her) on that particular day - never re-appeared. I went back there today though and "whoa . . . . there's a small clan of 'em living under there! I saw at least four (three small'ish ones, and "the big one" - don't know if that's big mamma or big daddy ). Cutting to the chase - I managed to pop one, thought it was "the big one" when it popped its head around the far back corner of the shed. When I went to retrieve the corpse though - it wasn't so big after all. Wasn't a "baby" - not that small but wasn't the biggest one I've ever nailed before either. Anyway - I picked it up and placed it out in a grassy area not to far away from the shed figuring predators (hawks, turkey buzzards, eagles, crows, etc ... ) would get it. An hour or so later I went back out there to show to property owner and the corpse was gone. ( huh?? )

Are chuckie's known to drag dead brothers, sisters, etc ... back into a hole? ( turns out this shed has multiple holes . . . ) Chuckie's are principally vegetarians but, according to mr google, they are apparently known to be the occasional meat eaters too. I've never seen a chuckie corpse pull a Houdini like this one - just curious what you guys might think.

Oh -- .25 cal RTI P1 Performance w/the RPB barrel in it, 32g Patriot slug @953 fps if anyone curious.

PCP Rifle  SOLD .22 Prod AR Carbine - Carbon Bottle - Cothran Tube

Haven't been able to do much shooting since moving to Chicago, so I'm selling off some projects. This is a project gun from several years ago when I was younger and dumber. As such, there is one stripped screw in the KAK brace, which can be replaced, and the knurling on the LDC adapter is marred. I currently have it shooting at 14.8 fpe

Has an aluminum AR15 buffer tube adapter and KAK brace that I 3D printed a butt pad for. It includes a Covert brand LDC.

The main interesting part of the rifle, and why I believe it's worth purchasing, is that it has a custom stainless steel air tube from Don Cothran, which was machined such that the tank block is about 1/4" from the face of the valve. While that limits the available plenum, it allows for a very well balanced gun, despite being a bottle gun. The gun is then finished with a drop block and 15ci carbon fiber bottle. This makes the overall package very light and handy. I do not recall exactly what I had the regulator set at, but I believe it's between 1000-1300 psi.

Asking $325 shipped in the US via PayPal. Add 3% if paying via Goods & Service, offers welcome. I am pricing this based on what it would cost to buy the custom Cothran tube, the QB tank block, AR tube adapter, and the carbon bottle alone and not factoring in the cost of a Prod base.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want an pictures of certain parts of the gun.

Lesson learned, buyer beware bargain pellets

This week end I went to my first AG show. Re ally enjoyed it , saw some great guns and met some nice people. The problem I had was mostly self induced I suppose. The vendor was selling tins of JSB Exact .22 Heavy’s. I was kind of in a happy stupor and not thinking logically. He wanted 15 for 2 so I said how about 8 for one, he said I can do that. Anyway, I get home and want to try them, first few fantastic. Then I looked in the tin and saw a whole mix of crap . Lots of good ones but lots not so much. Even some .177’s a some elongated(stretched) pellets. Should have op-ed the tin at the show, lesson learned. If it seems to good to be true, it just might be. 👍🇺🇸😉
