Bipods/Rests  SOLD Whidden Gunworks Track Plate

I’m selling a Whidden Track plate for $37.50 delivered in CONUS. Payment by PayPal + 3.75% or Zelle.

As described on their website:
Any rifle with a fore end rail and a rounded stock needs the Track Plate for a quick conversion to a flat fore end. This removable accessory provides a stable front resting point for shooting from sandbags or a rest.

The Track Plate is light weight, has an easily installed stand-off rail insert, catamaran-style runners to prevent rocking, and can be easily stowed in your range bag. It is a hassle-free way to test a prone rifle for accuracy, to zero its scope or sights, and to remove any sling-induced variables when trying to improve a rifle’s inherent accuracy.

The Plate is great for any rifle with a rail whether it ís smallbore, centerfire, or an air gun. You can try F-Class with your favorite prone rifle: the Plate has a perfect low-drag finish for riding a rest or sandbags and is competition legal in all dimensions. The Track Plate will fit Anschutz and American style forends and is made in the USA of machined aluminum. To meet F Class requirements our Track Plate measures 2.9 inches wide and 5 inches long.

Diana  Winchester Mod 450 / Diana Mod 50 refresh.

I picked up this gorgeous rifle at the Carlisle airgun show. Wonderful rifle, but the spring buzz was so bad that I couldn't enjoy shooting it. I took it down and made a piston sleeve, then applied a small amount of tar while soaking the piston seal in neatsfoot oil for a few minutes. . It's been a few decades since I messed with the dreaded 3 ball sear. A little fiddly, but after walking away and coming back a few days later, things went together easily. She's vibration free now with a very smooth cycle.

The SPREAD = parallax wheels comparison

I am finally doing a comparison of a few popular scopes used for field target. The pictures will show you how far apart in degrees a given scope spreads out the ranging or distance calibration numbers from 10-55 yards.
I encourage you to add your scopes spread to the thread In a similar way.
not showing is the Element Titan 3-18x50 which has a 270 degree spread from 10-55 yards. The Sightron S-Tac definitely held its own. The Sightron S3 10-50x60 Hft scope left before I recorded the spread But memory says it was 220 plus degrees.

Pellet Testing?

Ok I have been out of the air gun game for a while but have gotten back into it and have a question about testing pellets to find the best one your gun likes. The reason I ask if I have a XM1 Scout and a Notos that I trying to find a pellet combo that works the best so I can finally zero the scope for hunting season.
1) Do you clean your barrels between each brand of pellets if you are testing with different brands?
2) Do you clean when testing different weights?
3) Or do you shoot 3-4 pellets to foul the bore and then do your group testing?
Any thoughts or input on this would be great appreciated.

RTI  Getting Naked

Well..obviously not what you think..LOL. but made ya look..

Backstory..

It all started when I happened on the FX Hornet on the HumaAir website. I wanted one. But I wasn’t going to buy a $1700 used M2 or M3 and add an additional $300-$400 for other parts to make it happen. Yeah..El Cheapo. So what to do?

IMG-1-Huma-FX-Hornet.png

I already had a couple of nice RTI projects that I’d modified. I could start with one of those. Nah. Those were dedicated yard and long range squirrel guns.

It was early November 2024 when this idea started. I knew that RTI Arms in Spain would have their Black Friday sale soon. So I got Naked. Eeeeuuwwww! No, as mentioned earlier..not what you thought, I ordered a Prophet1 frame from RTI Spain. They call the part a “Naked Prophet”. Note for everyone running to RTI Spain website to order a base P1..don’t bother..they’re no longer available. Sad. The only “Naked” they sell now is the P3. At least I wasn’t able to find the P1 or P2 on the menu.

IMG-2-RTI-Micro-Naked.png

The build required that I have a number of spare parts. Standard RTI Butt pad..check. 16” CZ barrel..check. Regulator..check. Shroud..check. Scope rail..check. Smallish air tube..Nope. Dang! No bottle would work for this build. .as you’ll see from the pics. I needed a tube. The search began.

Long story short, I could not find an aftermarket tube of the size I needed to make my RTI “Hornet”. Heavy sigh!

HumaAir had 170cc FX tubes. Right OD and length. Would they work? I e-mailed them to find out if the FX tube had the M18x1.5 bottle threads needed to mate with the RTI regulator. They said yep. Bought the FX tube. Package arrived. Argh! Obvious nope. Threads not a match. Double Argh!

IMG-3-RTI FX-Oops.JPG

I contacted HumaAir for a return authorization shipper. Instead, they asked “how can we help?”. Did not expect that..at all. I told them what I was trying to do, sent them pics and specs. In about 10 days I had a part in hand that mated the RTI regulator to the FX tube, perfectly.

IMG-5-RTI FX-W 125bar STD Reg.JPG

I’m giving Hum-Air a shout out here because they went above and beyond what they needed to do. They could have just sent me the RA and washed their hands of the situation..but instead, they went the extra mile and really much more. Without the help provided by the folks at Huma-Air, this whole build would probably have stalled out. Wouldn’t it be great if all manufacturers and dealers used those same four words..”how can we help?”

KUDOS to Marc at Huma-Air for his GREAT customer support and for really providing a service above and beyond expectations.

So starting the assembly from naked went smoothly. The RTI Prophets (at least the P1s) are like Legos for adults. Everything just fits.

IMG-14-RTI Micro-W Discovery 6X.JPG

Did I check all the boxes. Nope..missed the desired 26 inch OAL by 1/16 inch. Oh Darn. Shot count on the first tube of 220 bar down to 110 bar was 66..this exceeded what I was expecting. Weight..I was hoping it would end up less than 7 pounds..smoked that at under 6 pounds by an ounce or two.

Does it shoot? LOL It has a CZ barrel..which should say it all. I did a quick sight in at 9yds in the garage..set impact for .9” beneath the aim point. Then drew a rabbit brain sized black dot on a box and..first shot at 19yds nearly centered in the “brain”…followed by four more. You could literally hear my face ripping from the ear to ear grin. “Hon, what’s that tearing sound coming from the garage??” Nuttin Honey..just a large smile.

Next will be the RTI Micro going to prom..dressed up in FDE. Maybe with a FDE fade-out on the CF 50mm. Possibilities abound.

Getting Naked can be fun..LOL. ;-)

Accuracy issues, pellet probe bent?

Grouping an inch or less at 100 yards has never been an issue but lately I've been getting flyers using the same ammo. I chambered a slug and then pushed it back out to check out where the probe makes contact with the slug. It seems the indent where the probe pushes the slug is not exactly centered. I know it doesn't help accuracy but is this enough to be causing flyers? I recently had a double feed and forcibly closed the action which was stupid but I didn't have a wooden dowel with me out in the field. Nothing else has changed so I'm assuming I bent it causing the flyers. Took some pics to show the indent, does this look off enough to cause flyers.

Airgun Capital

I ordered an Airgun Capital suppressor/moderator for my JTS Airacuda Max in .25 cal. It looked like a nice aluminum unit and cut my decibels by 15+, but it turned my tack driver into a scatter gun. Inspection showed strike marks on the baffles and end cap which is marked .22/.25 cal. So I looked on their website and the only way to contact them is by email which it says is 24/7. Really? After three days and five emails I haven't heard anything from them. I'm always suspicious of a company that doesn't give an address or phone number for contact. Their warranty online is for 30 days and I'm hoping that they step up and give me a refund or a replacement.
So my questions are, has anyone else had a problem with AC suppressors, and how did they resolve your problem?

New to HFT and looking for advice on Pellets

So, I've purchased an Air Venturi Avenge-X .22 and have been shooting it for a few weeks now. (and loving it). Ultimately, I think I want to try HFT. While exploring the gun, I started with JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy .22 in 18.13 gr for the first tin with delivery of the gun. At 25 yards (my backyard) I was stacking pellets in very little time with the only adjustments on the gun being limited to trigger pull adjustments. Internet searches of "Tuning the .22" quickly landed me at "Steve's Ultimate Guide" in which he's using the "Redesigned" heavier version at 25.39gr. So, I ordered those and spent several days trying to achieve the tune that he was displaying. Well, I'm getting close but can't match his exact numbers but am getting similar performance. However, the calculated FPE (46.9-50.89ft/lbs) are well over the 20ft/lbs specified by the AAFTA.org. Those heavier pellets, while are accurate at 50 yds are no more accurate than what I was getting BEFORE I spent 36+ hours tuning for the 25.39gr pellets, away from the stock settings that were pretty darn good for the 18.13gr version. Of course, I now have 4 more tins of 25.39gr in my shop LOL. I honestly don't know the speeds or energy levels of the 18.13gr pellets because I didn't have a working chronograph when I was shooting that tin.

So my question is, what grain pellets and tuning specs should I be looking for to shoot HFT with my .22 Avenge-X? I know a lot of folks prefer .117 caliber due to the flatter trajectory compared to a .22 but that's what I have currently. I am ready to order more pellets and am looking for those who know what they are talking about for advice since I obviously don't no anything about it.

Thanks ahead of time for any advice. It's appreciated.

Tunged a Blonde Beech

Benjamin sent me a stock with scratches. I used a razor blade to scratch off the thin & terrible looking finish and then followed up with sandpaper 180g. (It was this dry method vs Citristrip. Glad I did this dry)

This process revealed a beautiful beech wood stock with the tightest grain I’ve seen on a piece of wood. I did 3 100% Tung oil applications, doing a UV open air cure on the last thin coat of tung oil. This produces the hardest finish I’ve discovered with just a nice glow sheen.
