PCP Rifle  SOLD Air Arms s400 MPR .177 >> $50 price drop x3 (Regulated + Alen Z tuned)

For sale is a used Air Arms s400 MPR. The price is $825 (was $875) for the rifle, an extra (shorter) air tube, hamster, scope riser (but not scope pictured), and air tube probe. Buyer pays for the shipping and gun will ship in hard case. (Hard case is in bad shape, but will provide good protection.)

Please email me at [email protected] with questions.

EDIT (9/26/23) - the gun's previous owner messaged me here to clarify a few details. (1) He purchased the gun new from "Bori at Topgun Airgun" so that makes me the 2nd owner. (2) He was told "that it was a prototype for the MPR-FT". (3) He "swapped to a regulated tube from I think Altaros". (4) The gun had developed a leak and was was showing erratic velocities, so the previous owner "sent it to Alan Z for work". <edits/>

I sent Air Arms the serial number and got back the following information on its original configuration:

MPR SPORTER .177 5.1 FTLB WALNUT RH RUBBER BUTT 07.09.2005

As you can see from the pics below, it does not have the rubber butt pad. Testing a couple of days ago confirms that it is currently shooting Air Arms 8.4g dome pellets at an average of 801 fps (11.9 fpe) and H&N FTT at 768 fps (11.3 fpe).

Installed on the gun is a longer air tube that has been regulated. This tube is set to accept a probe and does not use the quirky AA banjo fitting. Due to the long air tube, the bottom of the silver muzzle brake had to be scooped out to make the tube fit. Both the barrel and air tube have a few small specs where the bluing is gone (see pic below). Included in the sale is a shorter air tube. I have not tested it nor do I know much about it.

Back in April of 2022 I chony'd a full string of H&N FTT 4.52 from 2900 psi down to 1600 psi. (I'm short on pellets so I have not done a full string recently.) Here are details from that older one:

Pellet = H&N FTT 4.52mm
Fill start / end = 2900 psi / 1600 psi
Number of shots 90
ES = 16 fps
ES = 2.04%
FPS Avg = 777
FPE = 11.6

The FULL string on that was actually 105 shots with an ending velocity of 752 fps and finished at 1450 psi and I'm guessing the reg is set to about 110B.

The trigger is really, really light. It's worth noting that the 1st stage of the trigger barely returns to its resting position when you lift your finger from it. The bolt is smooth but I will occasionally feel that when you chamber a pellet, something catches it just a bit. It does not happen often. I wonder if the port had been opened up by a previous owner? I have not pulled the barrel out so I can't say (my borescope won't fit .177).

The wood is very pretty with a little tiger pattern but is used. Please see pics for some dings and scratches. The stock is right-handed. FWIW, I am left-eye-dominant and found this stock to be fairly usable shooting lefty. I guess that I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to fit. Speaking of fit, a nice hamster is included.

Other  Yawnnnnn...will 2024 bring any interesting new PCPs?

I don't know if I'm just getting bored with airguns but there hasn't been any interesting guns to buy in recent memory. The two models I had half an eye on this last year turned out to be pretty meh: the BRK Ghost was too similar to my Impacts and the Skout turned out to be an ultra heavy, uber expensive & gimmicky talking niche gun. This Skout was touted to be some revolutionary, game-changing super rifle but, after the initial hype, it sure seems to have landed with a big thud. The much hyped FX Panthera was also a yawner b/c it's purpose built for purpose that is of no interest to me.

Without anything new and exciting to buy, I found myself buying more Impacts and Leshiy 2's . . . neither of which I needed. Oh yeah, I was very fortunate to find Michael's Colibri last month and got reunited with probably the only rifle that I've truly regretted selling but even then, we're talking about a rifle that is like a decade old?

So what are you guys looking forward to? Are there any cool new rifles coming out in the near that have you excited?

First kill over 99 yards.

Finally reached 100 yards. Before this my furthest kill was81 yards on a sparrow.

100 yards on the nose, starling.
The other one in the pic is a one I got at 50 in the same tree and found them both beside each other.

FX Crown/380mm StX barrel
H&N 23g HP Slugs @ 840fps

For those who are curious: My drop data from 18g JSBs at 870 and these slugs at 840 is identical...That being said I switched to slugs due to their ability to handle cross wind so much better. Holding over is one thing, holding over and for wind at distances over 50y can get really interesting when your targets are small and only give you a few seconds to do the math.

Airgun Ballistics program

Since big brother has decided to divorce us from Strelok and other ballistics program because we might shoot our eye out, why doesn't someone in this august airgun community take the bull by the horns and resurrect either Strelok or Chairgun and make it available through this forum or one easily accessed by us. How aboutcha, FX, Pyamyd, Air Force somebody?

EDgun  Murphy’s Law - A cautionary tale

Murphy’s Law provides that if you can assemble something backwards you eventually will do so. This weekend I loaded the magazines for my Lelya 2 without bothering to put on my reading glasses. After all, they are easy to load and I had done it before. Well, it turns out they are not just easy to load but can just as easily be loaded backwards. On to of that, they will slot into the mag opening and the first round will fire. What happens when you try the next round? See below. Good thing I always wear safety glasses when I shoot as my face was just above the magazine well when I pulled the trigger! Wisdom does not necessarily follow age. David

Gamo  What traditionalists call PCPs

I've been asked why I call them SCUBA guns. It stands for 'Spensive Compressed air Ugly-ass Barreled Assembly. I am waiting for Biden to install charging stations on all public hunting grounds as per his green new deal before I get one. Or, I could just wait 'til Christmas for a new GR Magnum.

Brocock/BRK  Brocock BRK Ghost - Brilliantly Engineered...Not

Having just received my new Brocock BRK Ghost from Airguns of Arizona last Friday, I was eager to shoot it, and last night I got my first chance to do so. While sighting in my scope and immediately getting some very promising groups well under an inch at 50 yards, I decided I wanted to bring the velocity of the JSB 25.39 pellets down to about 960 fps with the power wheel set on Max. So, I carefully followed the Brocock BRK Ghost Official Handbook instructions and first removed the tank, then emptied the plenum by dry firing the air out of it...at which point the cocking lever jammed and would not cock. Brilliant!

So then, on the Airgun Nation forums I found this post by “ct6978” on May 10, 2023 (thank you!)…

*****

Chris + Shane at AoA talked me through the fix. I'm doing this from memory, so everyone help me out if you see something wrong:

Remove the cheekpiece

Remove the last 4 bolts on the rail

Loosen the nut under the magazine loading area, to the left of the 'GHOST' label on the right side, don't remove it

Undo the 2 smaller bolts holding the hammer sear cassette on the lower right side of the far rear of the frame

Be careful, there's a tiny pin connecting a brass hook/ears to the cassette, mine fell out and I almost lost it - Remove the cassette, save the pin

Slide out the back section, eyeball your stuck hammer

AoA told me to 'whack it', so I used a wooden chopstick against the hammer, hit the chopstick with a hammer a few times, then it came loose

Reassemble

Additional post by “jasperjet” in the same thread: My hammer was jamming because the hammer was buldged on both ends. Before reassembly I made sure the hammer diameter was the same for the entire length by filing it down so it wouldn’t be able to jam in the front of its runway and hold the valve open. If you don’t do this, it is likely to happen again if you empty the air.

*****

I have a partially paralyzed left hand that shakes, and doing something like the above is very difficult for me. I very well may not be able to do it. And my only other option is to ship my Ghost back to Airguns of Arizona to have them service my Ghost under the Brocock BRK warranty. And this after spending $2200 and attempting to change my regulator pressure for the first time within the first hour of ownership. Brilliant!

I would like to suggest that Brocock BRK make an incremental contribution to the British economy by hiring one additional employee with the job title “Do Whatever It Takes To Ensure The Cocking Lever Doesn’t Jam When Emptying The Plenum By Dry Firing The Ghost.” Brilliant!

Surely one of the brilliant Brocock BRK engineers can figure out how to eliminate this problem from happening to brand new rifles by modifying their production process. If not, I am a retired Ford Motor Company Quality Process Improvement Analyst who, for the right price, would be glad to visit the Brocock BRK production facility as a consultant to determine the process improvement necessary to eliminate the bulge at both ends of the hammer.

Come on Brocock BRK, get your act together and get rid of this problem on your end rather than expecting your customers to do it for you.

If you are considering buying a Brocock BRK Ghost, plan on the possibility of having to do the above disassembly/repair the first time you empty the plenum by dry firing the rifle to lower your regulator pressure.

A friend who was shooting with me last night and saw this happen said “That’s why they call it a Ghost...because it’s dead!” Brilliant!

Optics  SOLD Hawke Sidewinder ED 10-50X60 Model #17370 - SPF

Up for sale is my Hawke Sidewinder ED 10-50X60 model # 17370. I purchased this scope in 2019 for field target practice with an AA EV2. Unfortunately, I just didn’t find time to use it much, so it has spent too much time in the safe. I believe this model had a MSRP of around $1,000, but was commonly available around $900 at the time. The only issue I have found is that the metal objective lens cover is difficult to snap shut and reopen once snapped shut. I have left it attached to the sunshade (as pictured) as it is a little difficult to get it attached correctly.

All contents included with the original box plus additional 6” upgrade wheel.
  • Hawke #1730 scope
  • 3” Sunshade
  • 4” Sidewheel
  • 6” Sidewheel (separate purchase item)
  • MOA per click turrets
  • 1/4 MOA per click turret set
  • 1/8 MOA per click turret set
  • 1/10 MRAD per click turret set

PCP Rifle  SOLD Umarex Notos

Works flawlessly, hold air perfect.

Moving this off since I'm just not into the plastic guns.

Super accurate and quiet. I took plenty of squirrels and starlings this year with it. Stacks baracuda 21 grain 5.52mm pellets, amongst most others.

As minor scratch on air tube, been there since I got it from PA.

Comes with a carm 12 round mag and the factory 7 round.
