FX  Not convinced an FX Crown bottle clamp is a good idea

Although this concern could apply to any rifle that has the bottle directly into the receiver, for me it's about the FX Crown MkII
I am thoroughly not convinced that is ok (safe) to mount a bipod on a bottle clamp and have the bottle support the rifle.
Thoughts please.
Especially from folks with direct experience

Thanks
Edward

FX  My Cherry Pick

Not one to cherry pick a group but for this I had to. Installed the heavy Huma hammer and after a bit of tweaking found a happy place. First 10 shot group. 102 yards to target. Regs at 165 and 115. Wheel on 4 with the IHS 1/8 turn out. FX .25 34’s at 951 fps. Full string hopefully tomorrow with groups at multiple distances.

FX Chronograph Rechargeable Upgrade

I got tired of forgetting batteries for my FX chronograph, so I made it Reachable. FX should have made it Rechargeable but I'm sure it would cost more . This FX Chronograph eats Duracells, I have to change the batteries after every use. I of course am forgetful and don't turn off the Chronograph, and use it for 2 hours straight. Some times I forget to carry extra batteries around and not to mention the cost of a 4 pack of AAA Duracells, So I made my Chronograph Rechargeable. I used a 18650 battery and added a charging port to the side. The run time is much longer now. About twice as long battery life and fast recharge. Also If I forget to charge it, I can just attach a Micro USB and it will work while its being charged. I can charge it from the car and I can't forget the Car.

Here are some pics of the end result. It was easy to make the changes, but it was time consuming. But now that I know how, it would only take 1 hour at the most.
SKILL LEVEL 3.
TIME 1 Hour
Tools needed.
Dremel and soldering skills.
Also need a Micro USB 4.2v battery Charger.
With the cover back on, you cant even tell anything was changed to the Chronograph. Other than the Micro USB port on the side for charging.

You have to know how to solder and have a Dremel.
If anyone wants to make your chronograph rechargeable Please let me know and I will make a short video on how to do it.

FX  Oh DRAT, made a small mistake <---- understatement

Thought I'd be clever and clean two barrel(guns) that were absolutely perfect, really didn't take much about 6 or 10 patches each, nice and clean. went out to test them....OH damn, the Maverick .25 was off a mile at 25 yards, ok maybe I rotated the barrel 180º, I put it on slug where I thought it was, elevation was off over a full turn MOA, got it back close and almost ok, still not as close as before I did something STUPID. Next up, the .22 Maverick Compact, off a little bit and went from laser to throwing rocks. I'm hoping that I can foul up the barrels enough to get them back , a few thousand pellets should do the job. After about 70 pellets/slugs each things started to get a tad better but not the Minute of Squirrel at 100 yards they were at. Note to self....IF IT AIN'T BROKE....DON'T FIX IT.

EFT rules clarification

I swear this is not one of my typical "crap stirring" rules posts, I'm just trying to get a rules clarification.

So knee pads are not allowed in EFT? I was told second-hand this weekend that if they aren't in the rules they are not allowed. The reason I ask is because I like to use a thin volleyball style knee pad to keep my sweaty elbow from slipping off of my sweaty knee.

I assume since sweat bands are not in the rules, they are not legal either?

Hopefully my next EFT shoot will be long pants weather, so this will be more of a next summer question.

I've only been shooting EFT at one location in Texas, but if I were to travel I would like to know what the rules are elsewhere.

N/A  What's your ultimate setup if you didn't have a budget or wife to kill you?

what would your ultimate tricked out setup currently be?

I'm a simple man, love my Rattler 357 build w/1-10 Vortex Razor. I don't stretch her out so I wouldn't go Zeis, March Genesis or anything crazy on top.

Wanna see what ya'll out there would love to run and gun with at the moment!

FX  Panthera - nothing like it

I am fortunate to own a number of great air rifles. Sometimes it is hard to decide which one to pull out when I have a few minutes to shoot.

Finished a hard days work of outside physical chores in the heat today and decided to pull out an airgun on the covered back porch to cool down. The only issue is there was a very strong quartering wind.

I dialed the Sightron SIII about two clicks into the wind, tethered the Panthera to the Great White tank, filled the magazine with ZAN 33.5 Gr .217 slugs and proceeded to hit every spinner/reactive target from 38 to 86 yards - dead centering each one with authority. It seems to totally disregard the wind issues compared to my “conventional” airguns shooting pellets.

Fun stuff and a good way to end the day.

Daystate  Daystate Red Wolf 22 HP accuracy problems.

I decided to try my hand at 50 Yard benchrest competition and after researching bought a Red Wolf HP in 22. I have been having accuracy issues since the rifle was new. I‘m getting .75 to 1“ groups at 25 yards. I had tried shooting with and without the moderator, tried different scopes and mounts, different pellets, different resting methods (bags, bipods etc) with no success. Luckily I live only 30 mins from AOA so I brought the rifle to them to check out. The first tech tested it and wasn’t happy with the accuracy either. He inspected the barrel and decided that it was too rough so he polished the bore then claimed it was getting excellent groups at 20 yards.
A second tech looked at it and discovered that it was shooting the Monster Redesigns at over 1000fps on medium so way too hot. Also noted that when tank pressure drops to about 210 the velocity drops to around 940. Stated that it was a programming issue. After reprogramming it he then claimed getting 1 hole groups at 20 yards and .5 to .7“ groups at 50. He also noted that it much prefers JTS pellets over the JSB Monster pellets and that the gun doesn’t like to be filled to 250 bar So I should only fill it to 240 and run it down to about 160-170 bar for best accuracy.
I took the rifle home and went thru an entire tin of the JTS pellets they recommended and saw no accuracy improvement. At this point I’m thinking it must be me so I pulled out my Ghost 22, and my Red Wolf Safari 25 and Red Wolf Safari 30 to run a comparison. It was 83 degrees with no wind at all in my back yard. All guns were shot using the same bags.
Both Safari‘s and the ghost easily shot one hole groups at 25 yards as you would expect, however my Red Wolf 22hp did its usual poor performance. At this point I’ve been told it had a barrel issue, a programming issue and apparently has a sweet spot as far as air fill and the accuracy problem persists.
Any suggestions where I should go next as this rifle obviously doesn’t have the accuracy needed to compete?

PCP Rifle  SOLD Daystate Griffin .177

Daystate Griffin .177 in excellent condition. I bought this because of it's rareity but I haven't used it much for Field Target. This has a Gary Cane designed stock and is a great option for Field Target with it's adjustable hamster, cheek rest and butt pad. This shoots 10.3 Heavies very good and is one of the quietest rifles I have ever shot...extremely backyard friendly. I am well known in the Field Target community and have sold many items through the years on here and other airgun forums so be confident when dealing. I am open to any questions or a phone call to discuss this transaction. Comes with 10 shot magazine and Rowan single shot magazine and will be shipped in a hardcase.

Fastest response is through email [email protected]

KeithWalters

Varmint Cong

Yep…VC. Ol’ Victor Charlie. Or, in the words of the world-renowned varmint hunter Carl Spackler, Varmint Cong.

I wish I had a really interesting story about this one. You know…”I had the wind in my face and if I kept to the shadows…” followed by my all-time favorite gun writer line, “I was 700 yards away…there was no way I could get any closer”.

But I don’t.

What really happened was I was out re-zeroing my Sniper Sahara when the Minister of ASA (All Sexual Activities) walked up and stated:

1. There is a gopher in the backyard that keeps sticking his head up.

2. I was to cease and desist with whatever I was doing and go kill the little burrowing bastard.

I had VC in the wire.

And so I set-up the Sahara and the Bog Pod on my back porch and began my vigil. After a nerve-wracking wait of 3 or so minutes, ol’ Victor Charlie presented himself. After taking into account the atmospheric conditions and the distance (10 yards), I put an end to his yard-marauding ways.

IMG_4242.jpeg

What’s kind of funny is that the Minister, via a bird feeder, has turned the backyard into her own personal Audubon Society. See picture of the Band-Tailed Pigeons below. Note the feeder hanging from the tree.

IMG_4241.jpeg

And as said Band-Tails have the table manners of a hyena, they throw bird seed ALL OVER the place. And Victor Charlie figger’d this out and would rise from the tunnels of Cu Chi and absolutely dine-out on bird seed. I know this because I MISSED him from 10 f@$!ing yards a couple days prior (the whole hold over/under thing confused my simpleton mind and I threw dirt all over him).

I love whacking ground squirrels, but taking out a gopher warms the sub-cockles of my heart.

The Brocock Reign of Terror continues…

Justin

American Air Arms  Bench vs Tripod

This morning wanted to test my shooting with my standing height tripod. I recently saw a thread about adding weight to guns to help with shooting. Thought I'd try it and made a very redneck attempt and it's working great! Anyways wanted to shoot and see how it helped my shooting off a tripod with no other support. So shot off the hood of my truck with my mini tripod with rear bag and then with my large tripod for standing. I shot my Evol Mini and Tikka T1X .22lr. So I was pleasantly surprised that there were no real differences. The added weight upfront really helps alot. Both top groups off the "bench" setup were 6 shots and the other lower groups were 5 shots. Very satisfied. And clearly I need to work on not pulling shots on the tripod....my top Evol was a little wind gust not a Pulled shot but both the bottom groups had pulled a shot low and right.

Air venturi compressor took a dump, not sure what i should do about it. Open to suggestions

I think the motor if faulty now. Any ideas?
They're a ton of money to ship. It isn't under warranty. Debating whether to try to fix it or scrap it and get something else. It's about 5 or so years old. Has new oil, and enough of it. High pressure piston rings were just replaced. when it failed it threw the breaker. When working, it's never done that before.

FX  Panthera 500 mm slug and pellet tune

Finally figured out what tune the 22 grain hybrids liked. Macro 16 micro 1.5 and 18 clicks and 132 on regulater. Six 5 shot groups averaged .508 with the speed averaging 933 fps.
25.39 redesigns liked 17 on macro and 2 even on the micro. I have shot several groups in the .300 to .400 range and it likes 915 fps. Orange dots are pellet groups. Shooting black sharpie dots with hybrids . All groups are at 50 yards

JTS 25.4 on N50

Jeffrey gave me a tin of the JTS 25.4 pellets to try at Nationals. Took me 1/2 a tin to find how they needed to be shot but once I did they performed well at 50 in variable conditions from light to heavy holds outside the rings.

I don’t see them as any better than the FX pellets , although they certainly look a lot nicer.

R9.177 100y

You always hear the effective range of a hw springer is 30-50y

So this poor thing was bouncing around at the 100y rack ( 95-100y) so for fun i just took a hail mary pot shot and flipped him over to belly up mode ..

So ya, a springer .177 has enugh but o one shot insto kill to 100y. ( if i wanted to kill the poor thing id never hit him in 50 shots )

So had to send ruff to go get it .

Ruff,100y, squirrel retriever .jpg

He looks a little disgruntled and told me in this humid weather to please keep things at around 30y
