Shortening barrel, accuracy effect?

Hello-

I am thinking of having a machinist shortening my barrel. Barrel is not choke, question is which end should I cut to have less chance of effecting the accuracy? I am thinking the chamber side because you don't mess with factory crown. What do you guys think?

I would like to shorten it a bit. Why not just buy a shorter barrel, not for $400 though. btw - I do not know anything about barrel.

thank you,

PCP Rifle  SOLD (SPF) AAA Slayer 357 - Mag update

American Air Arms Slayer 357. I resealed the entire rifle and went through it inside and out. It's a VERY easy rifle to work on! Much easier than the EVOLs IMO. Very well thought out design. It's just sexy to look at in person!

It has an adjustable balanced valve and to my surprise a self-retracting probe design for extremely efficient airflow. I don't have much .35 ammo, but I tested it with 68gn Griffin HP-DB slugs (1179FPS), 81gn JSBs (1150FPS), and 117gn cast ammo 1033FPS) from Hunter's Supply and it's a beast. Definitely sufficient for hogs, coyotes, and probably deer with heavier ammo.

This is NOT a toy pellet gun! It's more like a firearm in power. I'd keep it, but I already have my bases covered and with a stockpile of lead in other calibers.

It's in excellent condition, just some minors marks on the rail that I can touch up with BC Aluminum Black. No magazine included, but I can link you to them for purchase through a dealer who has them in stock.

Barrel is excellent. It uses a real tensioning system that's solid!

Stock is AWESOME! It's two-axis adjustable (pad goes up/down and it can extend or retract). The factory moderator baffles are aluminum (not the fragile 3DP that breaks on a second shot like the EVOLs).

What a difference a bit of bling makes...

Being average size (5 '11", 180 pounds) I'm lucky that most "standard" rifle stocks fit me pretty well and rarely require modifications.

But I have large hands and while the stock on Crown was comfortable to shoot the grip was about 3/8" short for carrying one handed.

I needed to add a piece of walnut to extend the grip and decided on a whim to insert a white accent to dress up the rather plain looking stock. It looked so good that I added a white shim to the butt pad as well.

What a difference a bit of bling makes 😁

Too hot and windy to shoot so I thought I'd share a picture.

Cheers!

I Was Asked…

I was in the shade of a huge valley oak enjoying a nice breakfast burrito, my tailgate was down with my AA S410 on it. I had been hunting a property for ground squirrels for a farmer friend. It feels like I’ve gone back about fifty years out here. Maybe 8 cars went by in 4 hours…no leaf blowers blaring, no traffic noise, houses spaced miles apart, a river nearby…the perfect place for an old farmboy. A pick up truck came by, saw me, and pulled over to ask if I was doing vermin control. Then he asked how much I charge. I gave a giggle because he had it backwards. I should be paying for the privilege of hunting their property. The upshot, I got permission to shoot on another property! Life is good.

AIR Venturi 4500 Snowing in water reservoir

I'm assuming what is some sort of algae bloom is floating and swirling in the water container and must be clogging the radiator as every time I run it now the temperatures keep rising have flushed several times with distilled water but continues to get worse is there anything that is safe to flush system with and try to get back to a normal operating temp....any shared experience or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • Question
Carbon fiber tank question

I own an inexpensive but functional and convenient $160 compressor from Amazon (https://a.co/d/8sHtOTR). I use it to fill my PCP rifles at my gun club. It’s LOUD even though it is a gun club and folks are shooting some loud rounds! I now see, however, what an advantage a carbon fiber fill tank would offer. I will study the issue so as to get other questions answered on my own but for now I would welcome responses to one question, please:

Can these modest compressors fill an Air Venturi tank without overheating or breaking due to the amount of air the tanks require? Or are professional sources - like “scuba shops” - really the only safe way to fill them? Thanks.

Taipan  My long term feelings of the vet 2

Not as good as it could be! I was willing to overlook certain issues with this version, but…
No anti double load feature! Fail.
Custom air tank specs and moderator. This does not allow additional plenum due to clearance issues with the factory mod- fail.
Same factory reg- not bad, but no markings, go to huma for crying out loud, and be done with it. Keep the profile similar to the vet 1 and keep the anti double load.
Otherwise, spend the extra 500 bucks and get an epic 2. I know I’m catching crap, but don’t care, I’m not a blind loyalist.

Veyron sale

On aliexpress the official vector store has sale prices I paid $113 for a 3x12 sfp non IR.
And $145 for a 4x16 non IR
It's not just the veyrons it looks like most are on sale
Prices do seem to fluctuate from one day or so to the next

Epic  Love the epic 2 mostly

Been 2 months and finally got this platform tuned thanks greatly to “AVS Stephen “ this dude has knowledge and patience. We got this platform in 25 cal shooting 85 FPE. 1020 FPS with 40g slugs with LW polygon barrel and 945 FPS with 42g slugs and BOTH drilled it and 50 yards. Truth be told, we struggled at 100 yards due to winds inherent to east end Long Island, ny. But I’m very confident this gun shoots. Both barrels! Same accuracy. , different slugs of course. When Steve constructs the video, I’ll try to relay it here. I will ask for assistance if I struggle. Be well shooters.

My Thomas HPX … it is what it is

Went to the range today to get some practice in with my Thomas HPX, shooting FX MRD’s, outdoors @ 50 yards. There is another MOA Challenge thread in the general section that I posted this in too. Each group is 5 shots so these aren’t some cherry picked miracle group. The first shot was aimed at the bull and if it blew off then I chased that hole for my other 4 shots. It is what it is, by an average guy … happily shooting a rifle that I’m not worthy to own.

Bottom right two groups were shot with JTS 25.4’s. I was going to shoot another card with them but they shot horrible so I nixed that idea.

32 groups totaling 10.78” = .337” average if my math is correct?

FX  Does this seem right?

I got a chance to shoot my new 0.30 cal FX Maverick Sniper this evening. I have the first regulator set at 180 bar and the second reg at 150 bar. I'm shooting 50.15 grain JSBs with the hammer spring wheel all the way up to number 7 and only getting a velocity of 750 fps. Does this sound right ??? I was expecting to see 900 to 950 fps.
