BSA Air Rifles

I don't see a lot on the forum about BSA rifles . That is probably one of the reasons I am fascinated with them. I like to try things others overlook or have moved on from, or the unattainable.

I'd like to hear from owners or former owners, the model, whether it was regulated, if a spring gun the estimate on year made, and experiences.

Any opinion on BSA cold hammer forged barrels compared to other makers would also be interesting.

It is okay if this thread goes other directions, etc. Just fire away.

JB Weld saves the day. Again.

I have an inexpensive 4x6 belt/6 inch disc sander that is many years old. The drive pulley is polymer and is fitted to the drive axle with a spline. The pulley teeth stripped out and rendered the machine useless. The pulley is out of production so I cleaned everything up with a wire brush and used JB Weld to reaffix the pulley. Works like new so far. At least until I can budget a better machine.

I always have an unopened JB Weld around.

What happened to common decency?

Anyone else but me tired of people PMing about classifieds saying they want it and you send them your info for payment and even cut them a deal when they ask and then they just ghost you?

What the heck is wrong with people nowadays? If you don't want it and backed out that's fine, SACK UP and tell the seller you're no longer interested.

It sucks when I have the decency to play first come first served and hold an item for someone showing interest and they do this crap. Then by the time you give up and go to the 2nd or 3rd interested buyer they have already scratched their itch somewhere else.

It obviously just annoys me lol, I'll jump down off my soap box now.

Back in action with the Ranger XR

After two months of out of action I made it back in action today. There was a old dairy I have driven by a couple of times and today finally stopped to ask for permission to do some pesting.

While I was driving to the dairy, as usual New Hampshire didn’t disappoint my funny bone.

The first pass today I saw a flock pigeons reconning the farm, so I ran to a Dunkin Donuts for a dozen. The first attempt no one was home so I took a diversion and then came back, Bingo was the result.

I went up to the door, knocked carrying a dozen donuts and introduced myself to the owner. Most of the cattle had been sold off a few weeks ago, but there were still around 30 head. There was a mixture of pigeons, starlings and plenty of sparrows.

The gun I brought was the Brocock Ranger XR in 177 that I purchased from @Ghostranger169 . The gun is a solid platform, I have a Athlon 4x16 on it (bit large but in the near future it will be replaced) and I have a Tatsu on it. The gun IMHO still has a bit of bark, not loud, but it is notably louder than my Uragan. I was shooting 10.34 grain at around 14 ft/lbs. I mounted my phone SideShot mount for an upcoming video from this debut hunt.

I was a bit off I admit today, and wasn’t connecting like I should, but this is the first time out in 2 months on live quarry. The shots were from 15 to 45 yards. Some total was 2 pigeons (1 recovered the other on a roof) along with some sparrows. I made some stupid filming mistakes like putting my phone in the wrong way into the scope mount. 😂. There were quite a bit starlings, but one missed shot scared the whole flock away.

So after some good walking around for about 1.5 hours I called it quits and headed for a pint before heading home. It was a well earned pint and the hunt brought a smile to my face for sure. I am welcome back and with all the land they have, maybe I can talk them into let me venturing into the woods behind the farm for grouse. :)

I finally was "allowed" to change my user tag after 30 days and did so 2 days ago.

Now granted "Royal Scam" may have been a bad choice,
( Some may misinterpret or be downright confused..I get that) nevertheless it was mine to make.

I don't want to come off as whiney, because I love this forum and page.
It is full of people who are happy to share their knowledge.
Sometimes that is hard to find.

I just want to change my tag.
So a response as to why I can't use that one or an option to try again would be appreciated.

Doubtful anyone else has had a similar issue but who knows.

I should add that I am aware it may cause some sort of issue in the marketplace but let's be real.
Firstly, I did not join to buy or sale.
Secondly, if you have a lot of trouble figuring out if someone is human or not, (or at the very least devious) then you probably shouldn't be buying and selling online anyhow. Jmho.

If a mod sees this and has it within his or her power...

Mr Mudflood will be a fine and acceptable alternative to my first choice.

Thanks.

P.S My my wife thinks I have taken this too far.
But I have trouble hearing commies.=)

Should rifle's preferred pellet change with more shooting?

Greetings all!

My new hw30s likely has 300-400 pellets through it at this point. It shows that it groups best with 7.87 JSB's. What is the likelihood that this pellet will still shoot best from the rifle after another X amount of shots?

In other words, is 300-400 shots likely broken in the rifle, AND, once a rifle is broken in with whatever amount of shots necessary, do they shoot their preferred pellet best for thousands of shots?

I'm planning on buying a number of tins of its preferred pellet, but don't want to buy too many if the rifle evolves into preferring another.

Many thanks for any and all replies, Flintlock.

PS to add that the little rifle isn't pellet fussy, but, these JSB's group slightly tighter than several others tried. Thanks.

Why do you pest? Or not?

No right or wrong on preference. I pest to obviously rid my yards of problem birds/ animals. Secondary benefit is the rebound of native song birds. Take away the pressure of imbalances created by man. Nature responds. So I do it for my personal quality of life. As well as for the song birds.

Probably a non-wanted question, but...

Question to those that shoot with their guns supported by other than the shooters hands.

Why is it that folks think it's SO...cool, wonderful, amazing, astonishing, etc., that a modern, quality pellet rifle (you name the caliber and gun brand) when said gun shoots dime sized groups at 50 or even 100 yards...when used with sand bags, bipods or tripods to steady the shooter and his/her gun ?

Yeah, I tried it once, to see what the difficulty is. I'm quickly coming up on 72 yrs old, and yeah...EVEN...I can shoot dime sized groups at 75 yards (that's the distance I shot) with my RTI Prophet Compact, in .22 .

So...WHAT's the attraction ? Nothing's been proven, very little skill involved..!?

Sure, I fully understand supporting the gun for sighting in the new sight/scope of your choice. It's much faster than sighting in, supported, than doing it free hand. I'll give you that. I also understand the help in finding possible problems that a gun may have recently exhibited.

I don't get it. Please counsel me on crutched shooting, so I can understand the possible misunderstood .

And...yeah, no...disrespect intended to anyone. Just don't understand this type of shooting.

Mike
