"What IS it with you old guys "?

My wife asked me this morning. She's really surprised at the number 65+ year olds who've gotten into airguns. She spoke with a friend that she'd not been in contact with for a long while. Friend happens to mention that her husband is off on a new obsession with air powered guns! For me, a big part of it was the evolution from guns like the old Crosman 760 pumpers that were never much better than "hit & miss" to guns we have today that can stack pellets at previously unheard of distances. I got into it 5 or 6 years ago & have been obsessed & addicted ever since. One thing, I too have noticed, is the inordinate number of older guys who comprise the forums I've been on. Yeah, it's kind of like a second childhood for sure but there are MANY other reasons & dimensions to the equation. Being 95% retired leaves a lot of idle hours to be filled but that's a very small part for me. Mostly, the deeper I get into this the MORE there is to learn & enjoy. I could probably fill a page here with all the GOOD I've gained by becoming involved but still ask myself "why at this age? Why not when I was younger?" It's a valid question but I can't seem to be able to answer it myself. How 'bout you other old farts?
BTW, I turned 70 this past February but I still move & have the eyesight of a younger man. Thank God for good genes & playing drums for 60 years. (Counteracted all the crap I did to myself when younger & stupider)

The MANY faces of Field Target

Huh :ROFLMAO:

Indeed the faces we get to shoot at are many !! While many FT clubs around the country use solid color face plates ( Black, Blue, White being most common )
We in the SVFTC ... or should I say our target maintenance fellow likes to keep these faces a tad more interesting. Easy to range on with so much texture to get a focus, YET very difficult to see misses on many of them. 10 years of target gathering has our clubs faces being many !!

Are we having fun ... yes we are !!

Clawed beast down with the AP16

Was sitting out on the porch the other morning and heard the gut-wrenching chirp of the fabled veloci-chipmunk.

Knowing that the raptor rodent was on predator alert, I decided to see if I could step in and take care of the beast myself.

I stalked 50-60yards,getting closer through the tall grass... Until a green-backed Heron bust out of the bush and flew away. Score. Leave the pest to me.

Creeping closer, I noticed a piece of 4" pvc pipe sticking out at a 45 degree from the ground. Alas, a snout!

Lining up the 15 yard shot to about an inch of fur, I squeezed the 8oz trigger on my open sighted Ataman Compact and was greeted by the sight of stripes tumbling to the ground.

The barn cats followed me around for the rest of the day after this treat...

HOW do you RANGE the distance to your quarry (outside your PBR)❓

The options are in the poll.

My personal journey was all over the "range finding map," I think I've used at least 3 methods over the course of time.... 🤣

Is Open class suffering a slow death?

Was just reading the match announcement and report for Rockeville. Sounds like a great time you guys had!

I see that that club has combined PCP Open and the non AAFTA-sanctioned but often participated in Unlimited. (we have Unlimited shooters here in AZ too).
I also see that they combined Piston Open, WFTF, and Unlimited.

In the 4 or 5 years I've been involved in field target, I've seen the trend that appears to also be happening out in CT: more and more shooters migrating to Hunter. And that seems to apply to both newcomers as well as some of those the previously competed in Open. Also, fewer and fewer piston shooters.

While I think we'll see an uptick in WFTF shooters here in the US, with a not-so-far-distant Worlds being hosted by Garrett at Rio Salado in AZ......are the non-Hunter classes slowly going the way of the dodo? And if so, why? Aging shooters finding it less physically demanding? (no judgement there, just stating the facts that getting all the way to the ground and back up has got to be harder on knees and backs than going down to a bucket).

If the trend is age related, what happens to ft when those that have "aged out" of Open eventually get too seized up even for Hunter? The end of field target? Not trying to be chicken little here, just looking for some insight from those who've been in the game much longer than myself and have maybe already witnessed similar trends in the history of ft.

Or will it simply carry on, with us all shooting in Hunter class, essentially on equal footing? (I'm not entirely against that concept and have voiced my opinion before that all the field target classes fragment the competition pool out quite a bit).

Air Tanks for Sale - Joe Brancato - Warranty Experience

Within the last 6 months, I have purchased two Great White Tanks from Joe Brancato's company. I shoot a lot, and have many guests come to the range. I simply didn't want to have a point where air wasn't available or sufficient (though I also own an Alkin W31 vertical).

The first one has performed flawlessly.

Upon receipt of the second one, purchased about two months later, I filled and set it beside the other one. When I went to use it about a month later, it was completely empty . The leak must have been very slow as their was no audible sign. I filled it and tested it, and couldn't discern where the leak was coming from, but it still leaked off about 50 bar each day.

I called Joe's company and they told me how to remove the valve assembly from the CF tank. They also sent me a paid return label for a USPS medium flat rate box. Immediately upon receipt of the label, I finished boxing and sent it back.

While it took about three weeks to get it back from the time I first notified Air Tanks for Sale, upon receipt, it works perfectly now and has held air for a week. BTW -the ALKIN 31 filled the 97 cu ft tank from dead empty to 4500 psi in 31 minutes.

There was no charge and no questions asked. There was also no explanation as to the problem but I noticed when I received the new tank back, it had thread tape around the gauge mounting threads.

At any rate, I am appreciative of Joe and his team for taking care of the issue and returning it in great shape, paying the shipping both ways.

I recommend doing business with them.

Atomic XR… One shot three sparrows… video added

Shot thirteen sparrows today. A “baker’s dozen”… All the kills but two were recorded through the Wraith Mini. I have the triple kill recorded and confirmed. The three pictured sparrows by the feed tray are the unfortunate triple. I thought I had two lined up and sent a pellet. When I went to recover the bodies, I saw the third. In the video it’s a clear triple kill. I will post it up as soon as I figure out how. All kills from 22 to 26 yards, range finder measure, using CPHPs. I sit to the left of the huge fan in the distance.

Other Kral Tuners?

I'm going to be offering several additional tuning parts and upgrades for Kral along with several additional pcp guns. Benjamin Craftsman, Airacuda, Umarex, Gamo and Avengers along with slug barrels for most of the commonly owned guns out there. These will be available to tuners and customers alike. I plan to still build and sell some custom guns but I'm no longer taking customer tunes going forward. I'm currently looking for someone I can refer that business to. I will continue to support any previous work I've done but hoping to find a reputable person familiar with or that's wanting to add the Kral line to their business.
