New Daystate Huntsman Revere and a A+++ for Airguns of Arizona!

I ordered a new Daystate Huntsman Revere from Airguns of Arizona last Friday. I ordered by phone because I wanted a very nice, figured stock and not one of the run of the mill I've seen in some online store adds. The salesman promised me they would go through their stock of .22 caliber guns and pick me a nice one.

Well, not only did they go out of their way and send me a fantastic looking gun, but they also shipped it fast, and it arrived today!

No time to shoot it until late tomorrow, but there is a nice, detailed spec sheet from Daystate with some shots fired info and an additional target with a tight 5 shot group from AoA.

This is my second air gun from AoA and both experiences have been fantastic!

Pics and a quick review to come soon...

World's Largest (unintentional) PCP!

One of my longtime hobbies is Civil War artillery reenacting. Our unit owns a pair of three-inch Ordnance rifles. Uses 5.5 ounces of black powder and a 7lb lead projectile for target work. Here's what it shoots...
IMG_0014.JPG

One time we were target shooting and forgot to load the powder first... We have a 3,000 PSI steel scuba tank with a nozzle that fits the firing vent at the breach. A blast of high pressure air usually will remove debris from the previous shot that we can't worm or sponge out. Thought we'd try the air tank to get the projectile out of the gun. One guy holds the hose tight on the vent wearing heavy welding gloves. Another guy opens the air valve. The damn thing came out and flew about 50 yards.

Does this count as a PCP?

How Much Pellet Lube?

Have 500 JSB Hades, 18g, .22cal in a plastlc bag ready for lubing.
Will be using Ballistol as lube.
How many drops should I put in the bag, before mixing in the bag?
As a final step, should I roll the lubed pellets in a paper towel to remove any excess oil?
Thanks
BTW, to wash pellets put in 91% alchol overnight.

Are Taipan Veterans pellet picky?

For those of you who are lucky enough to own a Taipan Veteran, I'm curious if they are picky about pellet selection?

I'm extremely interested in one of those guns but was curious about that. For example my FX Maverick with the standard superior liner shoots most things really well. I really like that about the gun.

My Benjamin Cayden on the other hand is very picky about ammo selection. I've tried at least a dozen different pellets, plus a few different slugs and the gun only liked 4 of them.

I know not every gun/barrel is the same, but I'm still curious how picky your Taipan Veterans are.

Has Anyone Heard from Biohazardman?

He’s usually pretty active on the forums especially at night, but it’s been a while since I’ve noticed any activity. @biohazardman has been away from the AGN forums for a while and I’m concerned about him. Has anyone heard from him off of the forums? If so, is he ok?

Is the GX Compressor the best mobile alternative?!

One of the biggest challenges of getting into a PCP airgun is a reliable air source. Bill from Target has taken a bit different approach. He's using an Amazon affiliate link to promote the most reliable, versatile, and serviceable unit he could find https://amzn.to/3gUBC0Q

From there he offers miscellaneous parts on his website where fanatics can customize their compressor to what calls the "CS2 Hybrid" https://targetforge.net/shop/ols/categories/gx-compressor-parts

King of RMAC 2022

I've seen the latest ad for the FX Crown, and it says "The King of RMAC 2022".
I'm wondering if FX will offer the 20 pound drop weight that was used an option, since it was used on the King's gun?
:ROFLMAO:
But really, how many use additional weights on their BR guns, how much, and where are they placed? I've tried a 4 pound weight low and forward on my .22 RW HP at RMAC 2021, and at the time it seemed to work well, but later on when I tried it afterwards it seemed to negatively affect the harmonics of my gun, perhaps because I wasn't shooting from a concrete bench?

NLA Scopes for Sale

Good morning AGN! I have a couple of really nice scopes for sale,

First up is a Sightron S-Tac 3-16X42. SOLD.
I recently picked this up at Cameraland, this was a $499 scope that they had marked to 239. This is a catch and release for me, I like it quite a bit but the reticle is a little too light for my aging eyes. I will sell this for sold, shipping on me. I don’t think you can find better glass at this price. Clarity and color are very good.

The second scope is a Leopold VX freedom, 4-12X40 CDS TRI-MOA, side focus. Great glass and color! Retail $499, my price is $395, with shipping on me.

Both scopes have been on PCP air rifle‘s, and they have been babied.

I accept PayPal friends and family, checks or money orders. If you’re interested, p.m. me and then from that point, for your peace of mind and my peace of mind we will communicate via our phones. No Trades:)

Calculating with dBs

dBs are a unit of measurement which measures power.
They are named after Alexander Graham Bell. deci means "tenth" thus a Decibel is a tenth of a "Bell".
What does that mean?

Well from a ground truth perspective you don't care. What you want to know are what it measures and how to interpret those units in the real world. I am going to give you some simple rules you can use to figure out pretty much any problem involving dBs.

Rule 1: A 3 dB increase in power is the same as doubling power.
Rule 2: A 3 dB decrease in power is the same as halving power.
Rule 3: A 6 dB increase in power is the same as doubling range.
Rule 4: A 6 dB decrease in power is the same as halving range.

These rules apply at a standard temperature and pressure but you don't really need to worry about that in this instance.

What can you figure out using these rules and a microphone?

Suppose you use your cell phone and a sound meter app to read the noise level at your bench. Suppose it tells you that over a five minute period the average noise level is 58 dB. You want to know how far away someone can hear your rifle so you shoot a few shots over the phone and you find the average of those shots measures 81 dB. When you placed the phone out in front of the rifle you put it at 10 yards. You now have all the information you need to solve that problem.

But lets talk about "noise floor" for just a second. The noise floor is the level of "ambient" noise. The noise floor is the static on your radio. The noise floor is the "interference" which is always present when a signal propagates through space or down range. You generally can't hear things which are below the noise floor. To be honest, you generally can't hear things which are less than about 10 dBs above the noise floor but that is a different discussion. EDIT: see @nervoustrig 's post below

Now lets work that problem. The rifle is sounding of at 23 dB louder than the average noise floor at 10 yards from the muzzle. You know from rules 3&4 that doubling the range means halving reducing the power by 6 dB. So at 20 yards the "signal" from your rifle should be 23-6 (or 17) dB. We doubled the range and so could expect a 6 dB reduction in signal (noise volume). Well lets do that again then. At 40 yards (no not at 30 yards) the noise volume should be 17-6 (or 11) dB above the noise floor (58 remember?). We have the idea now so lets do that again a couple of times. 11-6 = 5dB @ 80 yards and 5-6=-1 at 160 yards. The sound of the rifle falls below the noise floor at about 160 yards.

That is the most common problem you are going to want to solve when working with moderators. And that solution is the best way to compare the performance of two different moderators because it converts dB into a number which means something to you on the ground.

FX CROWN MKII QUESTION

I was looking at my Crown the other day and noticed that the center screw ( see photo #2) was not tight. It was very easy to turn clockwise a half or three quarter turn but turned it back to where it was. Today I was looking at it again and on the opposite side of the receiver there is a screw exactly inline with the screw in the knob on the other side in the Power Knob (see photo #1)). It appeared loose too. I don’t know if they’re supposed to be tight or not.
I emailed FX but have not gotten a reply yet. Anyone know about the workings of that assembly ?

How do i use cleaning cotton pellets?

Hi, I purchased a Gamo Cleaning Cotton Pellets.

I normally use a Patch Worm pull through with cut up, left-over surgical masks to clean the barrel. But I thought these Cotton Pellets looked interesting.
How do I use these pellets to clean the gun? Do I just soak it with ballistol and shoot it out?

Zut 25yd Iron Sights Challenge ;-)

So last week I tried shooting the 30yd Challenge with my scoped HW35E. I did pretty good on my second attempt. I shot a 175 3X. Not to shabby I thought for a new springer shooter.

I didn't submit the target for scoring because I had a misfire in between targets 1 and2. (duh, keep your dang finger off the trigger until your ready to shoot and adjust the pull, it's to bloody light).

Today I was shooting my HW77 with Iron Sights and was doing pretty good at 25yds. I made up my own challenge target and gave it a try. 12 targets, 1" outer ring, 1/2" inner ring and 1/4" diamond bull. 1 point for outer, 2 for inner ring and 3 for diamond. You throw out the worst two targets and have a maximum of 30 points. Not my best shooting of the day, but this is hard to see at 25 yards with my poor eyes!

I thought I'd call it the Zut Iron Sights Challenge.

Rules made up as we go:
25 yards
Front Rest Only
Iron sights, open, peep, diopter, etc. No scopes
.22 or .177 Score with .22 caliber pellet or plug

I have attached two .pdf of the targets, one dark and one light so if you're interested fire away. Thanks to Fixedflinger for the new targets!!

Print on 8.5 x 11 paper.

RAW HM1000X EXTERNAL PLENUM

I had a AGN member Mubhaur make a 35cc. external plenum for my RAW. He changed the design so it was the same size O.D. as the blanking plug in the action. I had to drill a 1" hole thru the stock and cut the rail on the bottom, both were easily done. He also made a high efficiency valve and a hammer debounce device. I installed all the parts, had the hammer screw turned all the way out against the stock and it was shooting 994fps. Before I installed the new parts I had it set 935fps screwed in several turns. That increase was just because of the parts...I had not adjusted the regulator, it was set from the factory.I ended up cutting 1 1/2 coils off the factory spring to be at 900fps. with the hammer screw all the way out...turning it in aless than 1 revolution increased to 975, shooting 25.39 .22 pellets. Here are a few pics and the you tube link he made showing the parts. The quality of his parts was outstanding. It took 5 days for his parts to get to me from Pakistan...You can't get stuff delivered a few states away in 5 days here. He also video called me and walked me thru the installation of the parts in case I had a problem or question about them.

Tuning ideas

Hi folks, just got my M3 25cal 700mm, it came pretty well set up for 25grain JSBS and shoots them well at 900fps. My question is, what would be a good starting setting or this gun to shoot 34grain JSBs at about 870 fps? I'm not new to airguns by any means, in fact I own several PCPs already, including a Impact Mk2 in 25 cal. I'm just looking for a good starting setting for the M3 for 34 grain JSBs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
