New scope on my PCP

I have for the last two years had a Hawke 8-32 Airmax on my FX airgun. This scope has always been fine on the lower magnifacations, but when I am up to 32, it is very difficult to get into the scope. I even called Hawke optics thinking something was not right on the scope. I was hoping maybe to be able to send it back to them and upgrade to a scope that I wouldnt have this issue with. I was informed that they couldnt do this, and that because the scope was not their top of the line that this was a scope that I could easily have issues with at the higher power settings.
I decided to try a different scope. I went to Euro Optics which is in my hometown state of Pennsylvania. I have dealt with them before and I have found it's just about the best place to purchase, scopes and even firearms. Try them first before buying anywhere else. You may just like them as much as I do.
Anyway, I purchased a Vortex Diamondback from them in a 6-24 power. This scope is unbelievable to say the least! It is easy to see through, unlike the Hawke scope. It wasnt that much more than the Hawke either, and I am selling this Hawke, and I plan on never ever owning another one in the future. My accuracy has improved also because I wasn't fiddelling around trying to find my correct eye position.
Excellent scope!! Thank you Vortex!!!

Slugs vs Pellets at 100yd

Made the shooting bench my home for a good part of yesterday to run some slugs through the mighty Brocock Bantam Sniper HR Magnum and was very impressed with my initial results.
0904220900a.jpg

I previously tuned the rifle to shoot the 21.14gr H&N Baracuda Match 5.51 at 900fps.
I got great groups with that pellet but would get occasional flyers at long range.

Out comes the 23gr Cup base .2193 AVS slug. It's a nice looking projectile! I increased the hammer a bit (reg set at 155) and 5% from peak got me to shoot the slugs at 890fps.
0904220902.jpg

The target tells the story...
(10 shot 100yd w/ pellets with a right to left crosswind)
0904220913a.jpg

(And the first 3 shots with slugs in same shooting conditions)
0904220913.jpg

Only downside I can see is that the slugs don't sit in the brocock or carm rotary mags super well, but the 21gr Baracuda's now sit at 930fps accurately so have a closer range option and can single load slugs for when the starlings sit further!

Next up, seeing how the 34gr shoot at the ~750fps they come out at...

SOLD FOR SALE-Air Arms S510...SOLD!!

I purchased this rifle probably 15 years ago and I bought it new. It is a 25 caliber. It is in excellent shape, and really need to move it out of my safe. I have replaced it with a FX Air rifle, so I really don't have the need for two air rifles. I noticed the rifle leaking air a couple years ago, so I sent it out west to a very reputable air rifle mechanic, and he replaced all the seals, lubricated it and gave it a 100 % going over. So it is allready to go. It has hardly seen any field use, as I used it mainly around my bird feeders to dispatch of crows.
I'm going to price it at 500 dollars, and the purchaser pays for the shipping. This rifle is highly accurate and I guarentee it to be exactly what I have described.
I will try and post pictures. Please text me at 724 301 8030 if you want pictures sooner.
I am located in Western Pennsylvania.
Thank you

Odds and Ends Ammo

I am curious if anyone else has a bunch of opened tins and boxes of pellets and slugs that didn’t work out for you.
I was stunned when I went through my cabinet how many rejected projectiles I have. They are mostly slugs left over from the search for “the“ slug that my particular gun or barrel likes.
Found a Partial tin of H&N 21 gr, partial box of Zan 23 gr 218’s, some NSA 23 gr 218’s, NSA 24.8 gr, 217, NSA 27.5 217’s and some ziplock bags of a local producer’s 22-30 gr 217’s.
whatcha got in your pile?

End of the travel... I am of the idea that I have get to where I wanted.

Well, 54 years ago I had a Sheridan. 20 Cal and I dreamed about all sort of animals I would like to hunt with my air rifle.

About 10 year ago (do no know if they were some more or some less) I found the PCP's, and there the rat race begun: Power and accuracy of the PCP made me got an axious hungry of power and accuracy to get to be able to shoot at 200 yards with the air rifles.

Notwithstanding the rifles were very accurate and powerful, there it was an intrínsec limitation: The pellets design.

Now I can say that the combination of the Airgun Technology rifles and the slugs have gave me the power and accuracy at long range I was anxiouly expecting. The barrier has dissapear.

Indeed I have been lucky enough to see the change of paradigm. I am atonished with what the Airgun Technology rifles can do at long distance with the slugs,

I am positive that new technology (Rattler - LCS) will finish the pendings: Air rifles have been sent to a new level.

My rat race has finish.

Fill whips, lines

So I saw a post on Reddit the other day where someone was filling his air rifle, and the line popped.

Looked like he had a pretty gnarly injury to his hand obviously, and someone cautioned that fill whips should be changed out every 3-5 years. Reddit is generally a terrible place to get good information, especially on anything air rifle related or firearm stuff.

How do you guys feel about fill whips, do you change out periodically, just check the lines visually, just hope for the best? I've never really heard much on the subject but seeing that guy's hand got me scared!

Tale of two 54's

Here is another shootout, hope it doesn't violate any rules. This time it is my fairly new Diana 54 up against my 70's vintage Anschutz 54 Sporter at 25 and 50 yards. After trying every pellet I could get my hands on, I ended up back with the JSB 18.1 grain pellets on the Diana. I was hoping something lighter might work out, but the gun just likes the heavier JSBs. I used mid-grade ammo in the Annie, but even that is absurdly expensive these days. What was the purpose? Just to have some fun, keep it interesting, and maybe a bit of a reality check.

P9040209.jpg

P9040211.jpg

P9040210.jpg

The most interesting thing here is how well the Diana did at 50 yards. If only I hadn't bobbled that one shot! I didn't feel like my shooting did justice to the Annie, so I tried another 10 shot group at 50 yards and squeeked in under an inch at 0.98". Just not my day with that rifle I guess.

And this explains why my airguns get so much more use than my rimfires. Even the springers can hold their own in the accuracy department, and pellets cost far less than even the bargain target 22 ammo these days. Still, I do have a soft spot for a fine rimfire, and bring one out occasionally to practice shooting at longer distances or on windy days.

Any other rimfire shooters out there in airgun land?

September 3 TFT Match Report (reads like a novel)

Correction- a bad novel.
Emoji

Having considered myself first and foremost a Realist ever since I could formulate an opinion of my own, I consider most weather forecasts of professional meteorologists to be roughly the equivalent of the Green New Deal of professional politicians and climate alarmists. That anyone lends credence to either, I find surprising. And that anyone lends any credence to “TEN-DAY weather forecasts”, I find utterly hilarious.
Emoji

Nevertheless, since my superhuman powers of forethought and soothsaying apply only to matters requiring common sense and insight, meaning those powers don’t apply to weather forecasting, I figure it a good idea to follow weather forecasts I suspect TEXtreme shooters follow ever closer as match days approach. So it was that, as I’ve mentioned in more Match Announcement updates in the last week than ever before, for that same last week I’ve been following daily weather forecasts like climate alarmists following Al Gore! Thankfully unlike them, I’ve lent little to no credence to climate/weather forecasts despite them being such a necessary evil affecting a(ny) match director’s decision not only whether or not to cancel a match, but when to announce a decision based on all available evidence, factors and variables… like WEATHER.

So as the clock ticked torturously toward match day, I postponed the decision long as possible. Correction- Almost long as possible.

With enough shooters contacting me stating “I ain’t skeered to shoot in the rain!”, and a weeks worth of dire rain forecasts amounting to little more than a few sprinkles as an excuse if my decision proved disastrous, I decided to acquiesce putting off the decision till (self-imposed) deadline and announced, “The match is on” the evening before deadline. So OF COURSE the skies immediately responded with downpours that would make the past week’s forecasts proud!
Emoji

Fearing fewer “I ain’t skeered”ers would show than boasted they would, not only did only ONE prove worthy of said fear, but many more Texans and Okies showed up than my most optimistic hopes (considering the fickle-ass weather). Be it because the attendees were happy for any respite from the Heat Wave of 2022, did not understand what rain is, or thought it a good opportunity to take their weekly Saturday night showers a little early, twenty skeeredless shooters contested Saturday’s match. Fortunately but not surprisingly, enduring nary a drop of precipitation.

Thankfully the Ranchito Robinson grounds proved thirsty enough to suck down overnight downpours like a sponge (somewhat, anyway); enough so that by the 2:15 PM “HOT LINE” holler the muddy ground also proved not (quite) as messy as an Alabama mud-wrestling pit (don’t ask how I know). Just as thankfully, my shooters heeded my pleas to transfer as little mud as possible from the muddy TEXtreme grounds into the TEXtreme World Headquarters Complex. Many, many, MANY THANKS, Friends!

Capturing the Fourth Place Airguns Of Arizona $100 gift certificate was FIRST-TIME field target shooter Brian Stafford! Brian traveled 400 miles (round trip) to post a fine 39/40 score with his .22 FX impact, shooting JSB Redesigns 940 FPS. I assume his rig was scoped. Excellent shooting Brian! I also assume your first field target match might not be your last. By the way, this might be a good time for all you skeeredless shooters to... GET SKEERED!
Emoji

Mark Welker, purportedly of some place called Oklahoma, traveled 15 hours (round trip) to capture the Third Place $150 Airguns Of Arizona gift certificate with his Riton scoped .22 RTI Prophet shooting JSB pellets 972 FPS. Mark’s excellent 42/48 score suggests his superhuman skills with spring-piston guns cross over to less prehistoric airgun power-plants as well. He has made a habit out of shooting PCP-like scores in field target competition with sproingers, confirming my long-held suspicions he is actually a space alien masquerading as an Okie.
Emoji
Great shooting Mark!

Continuing his (annoying;)) habit of consistently placing on the podium in airgun competitions, Chuck Misenheimer captured the $250 Second Place Airguns Of Arizona gift certificate with a fine 43/48 score. Chuck’s Athlon scoped Daystate Safari serves him well, shooting 25 grain JSB pellets 970 FPS. Fine shooting, CM!

Bringing up the rear… Correction- FRONT, was some dang guy nobody’s ever heard of called Derrick Wall. This Derrick Wall character, apparently an utter newbie to airguns, somehow got lucky enough to post a 48/48 score to capture the $350 Airguns Of Arizona Match Winner gift certificate! Also known as a perfect score; also called “cleaning the course”, perfect FT scores are also rarer than National Champion FT titles. Considerably rarer! Apparently the DW guy also got lucky enough to stumble upon a rifle rig combination capable of cleaning the course- a .30 Kalibrgun Cricket topped with an Athlon Hilos (sic, I think) scope, and shooting 50.15 JSB pellets 870 FPS… apparently like a laser! Make that, a WELL-AIMED LASER!

FWIW, and not to understate his LUCK, this is the first time the TEXtreme field target rifle course has been cleaned. And again not to understate his LUCK, this is despite the fact the course evolves more difficult since TEXtreme get-go.

TRUTH be told, no-one is more deserving of achieving what extremely few field target shooters will ever achieve than Derrick. Huge congratulations, Bud. PHENOMENAL shooting!
Emoji

Of other interest is the fact that four of Saturday’s twenty shooters were shooting their first TEXtreme Field Target match. Most, their first shooting competition of any kind. If I’m not mistaken, despite it being the lowest TFT turn-out yet, that’s the most new shooters to contest a TFT match yet.
I happy!😊

That so, and the next TFT match (December 3-4) being another prize-rich two-day competition declared The TEXtreme/Republic Of Texas Extreme Field Target Rifle And Pistol STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, I expect we’ll set an attendance record surpassing 30 shooters. Mark your calendars now to avoid the December 3-4 dates being hijacked by such important and FUN priorities as your wife’s sorority sister’s wedding to your lawyer ex-brother-in-law. Which brings us to closing thoughts of this Match Report/Bad Novel.

Despite the low turn-out resulting from ominous weather predictions starting with ten-day forecasts and continuing every day through match day, I had more fun this weekend than a barrel of drunken spider monkeys!
Emoji
Emoji
Emoji
(No insinuations about other revelers intended, if you can believe that
Emoji
). And unless I’ve badly misread the other attendees, so did they. No doubt witnessing an extremely rare field target feat most will never see again contributed in no small way to the fun and camaraderie.

Come to think of it, the fun and camaraderie likely also contributed in no small way to achieving the extremely rare FT feat we were privileged to witness first-hand.

SEE Y’ALL DECEMBER 3!

Happy, HAPPY Shooting,
Ron & Maggy

SOLD Cricket 2 Tactical .22

Have a Cricket 2 Tactical in .22. I purchased this gun from another member here. Haven't spent much time with it. Took it out today and can't get a 18gr to go over 810fps. I could send it back to Talon Tunes for repair but don't have time. My loss is your gain! May be a easy fix but trying to pull some money together for a Delta Wolf so it needs to go. NLA Wtt rifles for....?????

I have the 10m versionof the Anschutz 8002S2 with a few extras. The 10m doesn't do it for me as much as the field target side of things. So curious if anyone had the ft version of the rifle, or a similar rifle.

Also have an Fx Royale 500 in a Steve Corcoran benchrest stock. Thought I would shoot it more, and honestly haven't put more than 20 pellets through it. Great rifle just not my cup of tea at this time.

Interested in thr Ft version of thr 8002 like mentioned above, or if someone has something for both rifles? Would love to find an AAA Evol, but I know that is a long shot.

The new HW35 Standard

The Weihrauch web sight is now showing a newly redesigned stock for the 35 Standard. The redesign is new and already taken from the newer design that came from the grooved model. It appears that Weihrauch also changed the color on the new 35S. The top gun in the picture is just from a few months ago (after the groove model) and the bottom is the current picture on the Weihrauch web sight. I wonder if anyone knows what Krale is currently sending in this model? The Krale sight still shows the grooved model. This new design/color is first Beech stock from Weihrauch that I actually like. Plus it is ambidextrous with the cheek piece on both sides! What do y’all think?
