So we went for a walk with the new 17 mini sniper, first blood with the new furniture I love the grain on this stock.

I decided the 17 needed it’s own stock, here is the result.

Went for a walk with Penny after retrieving my squirrel shot from the window, we had a very good result. I love the grain on the stock.

Penny has gotten very good at treeing the squirrels for me. She ran ahead, ran this guy right up up a tree and we took him down.

Here is something a little different for you

Ever since Col. Jeff Copper (A moment of silence please) came up with the scout rifle platform, I have always wanted a air rifle in that set up. Back than there were not a lot of options in air guns for this set up. Well that has changed and there are lots of option now.. Got a chance to grab this gun last year. It was tuned by Mike @ Flying Dragon Air Rifles. He had to cut the hand guard back to take a TKO moderator. I finally got a opportunity to pick up a UTG scout scope for it. I looked at all the pistol scopes on the market today and none had a parallax less that 30 yards most were 50 yards as were other scopes available. The UTG scout scope was the only one with an AO. The UTG scope gets to me and it is huge, I mean huge. Weight is half as much as the gun. If I had it to do over I would have got a pistol scope and tried to turn the parallax down to 10 years. I my still wind up doing that, this is a lot of scope. For now this is how it will stay and get tested and enjoyed. The gun is .177 not my first chose, but with the .177 heavier pellets and the laser performance of the lighter ones it should be fun to shoot.

Anyone recognize this muzzle brake/weight?

I picked up an older Beeman R1 recently and it had this giant honking muzzle brake on it. It's hideous and huge, but it's very nicely made and finished.

Anyone know where it came from or who made it by chance? It's not a Maccari, I just sent him some pics and he confirmed that it's not one of his.

It's roughly 9.5" long, 1.190" diameter, and slides down 3.5" onto the barrel before a step inside butts against the muzzle.

Skout EPOCH Update - Dec 16th 2022

My weekly call to Darryl Trent (of Skout Airguns) gleaned a bit of new info on the progress of the EPOCH. Although no solid date can yet be confirmed, the anticpated three-four week delay, due to the China shut down, I spoke about in the last update, remains unchanged. Although parts continue to trickle in, others remain stuck on the docks awaiting transport.

I was, however, given a bit of insight into how the release will happen. The current plan is to assemble, test and ship first the .30 caliber pre-orders followed by the .25 caliber and then the .35 caliber. "I" anticipate that this should all happen within the first 30 days or so. Last for release will be the .22 and .177 versions.

The folks at Skout have listened to and heard the communities expectations. They are aware of what the airgun community demands of a high end product and to that end every Epoch will be assembled and rigorously tested on sight before shipping. Naturally this is to insure that the guns received will fulfill expectations without disappointment. Personally, I would have been more than happy to have taken the beta gun I originally tested home with me as it was amazing even though all of it's systems were not yet online. I'll be headed back to Skout the minute the first production guns are ready for testing and plan on doing some of that testing myself on a number of different guns in order to confirm their consistency/quality control from gun to gun. When that happens, Jerry Kornfield and I will be there over the course of a couple of days. During that visit we'll have plenty of photos and video our time there with the Epoch to share both on tABC as well as here . We're planning a FB LIVE feed on tABC during which those who might have questions can ask and get immediate answers straight from the designers in real time.

For now, however, we'll have to settle for a new short video and a few pictures of the various bits and pieces, but then, something is usually better than nothing... LOL... Stay tuned there will be more.

SCREW IT! (in all the way, dummy!)

For some reason all of my groups started getting really spread out - I'm talking going from 3/8" groups at 35 yards to groups that varied from 1" to 2" across. I could not for the life of me figure it out or how to correct it. I was about to do some troubleshooting including removing the barrel assembly. I noticed that the CF bottle would move up and down slightly. When I removed it the last time I screwed it in until it would no longer leak, but I didn't screw it in ALL THE WAY until it was tight and fully seated. I tightened it and low and behold, the groups tightened up - went back to normal. Bear in mind, the bottle was not leaking, just not screwed in tightly. The only thing I can imagine is that the slightly loose bottle set up a weird harmonic when I fired. Once fully tightened, the slight wiggle was gone and the (assumed) harmonic was no longer there.

Introducing the Slug Gage!!

I guess it was only a matter of time before @JCup came out with a gage to measure slug diameter consistency. Here’s a HAM article about it.

Here’s a link to the .22 slug gage on the PelletGage site.

Extreme Field Target Setup

Looking to get into this next year thanks to Mike over at PSA putting it all together. I'm looking to get myself a decent gun to shoot the match with and I'm torn between the Crown in .22 or a Crown in .25 or possibly even a Crown in .30.

My question to people who have shot these matches, what caliber do you prefer and why? Also, if you have recommendations for a different gun I'm all ears as well. Im a bit of a "form over function" kind of guy so aesthetics are important.

Possum problem, need tips on hunting at night w/o night equipment

Any tips on a possum that keeps coming in my yard at night.
Last night the possum came back for a visit and met my dog. It didn't go as planned for either.
Up until this point I didn't know what was driving Amos crazy at night, but last night we heard growling and barking coming from out front. I grabbed a light and ran outside. I see Amos barking/growling and circling something. My first thought was please don't be a skunk! It wasn't a skunk, just a possum.
Amos was rolling on instinct and grabbed it by the back and shook, just not enough and it got away under the porch. Once we got Amos inside, I went out with a small flashlight strapped to the muzzle and a laser sight mounted under the stock. Checked under the deck to no avail and went back in to release Amos in the hopes he'd get/find it again.
About 3 minutes later, he alert barks. It was just enough time to swap to my 2000 lumen bike light on the end of the gun. Armed with a daylight bright light that allows me to use the scope it's so bright, I went out and looked for eyes. Found it's beady little eyes staring back at me and before I got a shot off it disappeared into the woods. I tried to find it but no luck.
I realize Amos might still get it but I fear it won't venture inside the fence line now it knows what might happen.
I have no night equipment and have no budget for it yet.
Any tips for finding and putting this possum out of misery?
Let me know what you think.

Cheap vs expensive PCP's

I've been following the $600 and under thread and there has been some very interesting guns but it sounds like most nice one's were acquired used, on smoking sales, or have been heavily modified. So my question is for a guy looking to get started and wants something good and long lasting from the get go is it even worth getting a $500 or 600 rifle or just jump right into $1,500 range. I mean they must cost more for a reason.

Another TX200 acquisition thread:LOL:

Got her in yesterday with a one piece Hawke mount, scope will have to wait until next month unfortunately (Hawke Airmax 4-12x40).

Will take some better pics tomorrow when I have daylight.

This has got to be the first gun I've ever received that didn't come wrapped in plastic btw.
Nifty little box that holds and protects it well regardless.
