How much power is needed to shoot slugs?..... Look at this !!

This thread is very illustrative:

This would mean that a .25 Cal 29 grain NSA slug at 850 fps (45 fpe) would be more lethal that what I would have supposed for coyote size hunting.

Coyote's skull damage comparison - pellet vs slug

I finally recorded a video comparing the damage of coyote skulls from a pellet and a slug. Both coyotes were shot in the same farm at 70 yards, a year apart.
The first coyote was shot with my 500mm Crown with the AA18gr pellet at 32ft.lb whereas the second coyote was shot with my 600mm Impact with the H&N 23gr slug at 45ft.lb. The shot placement for both was on the left temple.

I never shot any coyotes before so my first coyote was a completely new and exciting experience to me. I didn't know what to expect or whether 32 ft.lb was enough to kill one. Apparently it was enough as I learned the coyote's skull is not very thick. I have since shot two more coyotes using my Impact and the 23gr H&N slugs, an ammo that I trust and prefer for coyote hunt.

Have a watch and see the damage difference in the skull fracture and penetration.

Thanks.

PCP or springer for SHTF ???

Figure this would be a relevant topic with the world about to collapse (Europe freezing to death and the US running out of diesel) so which would you choose when the SHTF ? I have both, 2 springers and 2 pcp’s. I have two hand pumps and literally thinking of ordering a third. Also a crap ton of ammo. I figure the pcp is more precise and accurate so I would use those as long as I possibly could keeping the springers fresh as backups in the event the pcps eventually quit. What about you ?

Some good TX200 time today......

It's been a while since I opened up the TX200. A whole lot of shooting and no maintenance in quite a while. So today I stripped her down, inspected, cleaned, re-lubed and put her all back together. Then enjoyed the entire afternoon shooting the TX. Shot several strings over the chronograph just to see what she is doing and it's still averaging 656 fps with 16 gr AA pellets. That makes for about a 15.3 FPE springer. Really love this rifle....... it is such a nice rifle.

aa3.jpg

Shooting at just paper and steel can get boring after a while........the TX200 takes a pot luck supper!
All three were taken from beneath the same tree......right at 25 yard shots.

Paypal quietly added the $2500.00 fine back in its policy - 2 weeks after the backlash

Paypal quietly added the $2500.00 fine back in its policy - 2 weeks after the backlash. But sneakily watered it down where they do not have to specify what they are unhappy about. Many people report that they were not able to cancel or close their accounts because Paypal was slow-roiling the response and outright ignoring it.

Gun pics… show me.

So I was sitting in my backyard this eve and was waiting for something to stop by…. Saw a few crows and squirrels but found myself looking at my gun most of the time just admiring it.

I also find myself scrolling through threads looking at others guns. Seems to be my go to in this forum. I was warned that may happen. So for my enjoyment I would like to see other peoples set ups. Just post the gun no matter the make model or caliber… I just like looking at them.
To me they are functional works of art that bring me back to my childhood wondering what kind of damage I could do to the neighborhood critters back then if I had something other than the crosman pump with the sawed off stock which made it much more concealable…. Those were the days.

The agony of the wait!

I told myself that before I buy my next pcp I'm going to hold it it my hands. Not a bad idea by any means except the nearest dealer is 400 plus miles away and the ones id like to go to are triple that, and I don't have trips planned till next spring or summer. Gonna be a long winter. Guess it's good that I'm happy with my current Impact M3.

FX Impact MKI Upgrade or sell and buy a MKIII

First time posting on this Forum. I currently own a MK1 FX Impact purchased February 2018. Seems I got one of the last batches before they released the FX Impact Smooth Twist X and eventually the MII's. I am considering selling my MK1 and buying a M3, however upgrading this one is not out of the question.

Anyone have any advice on resale value on the MK1? or advise on simple upgrades I can perform to bring it close to M3 Spec.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

FX .35 Cal Heavy Liner, FX .35 Cal Tensioned Barrels, and FX .35 Cal Hybrids are now available!

Since the .35 Cal FX Impact was released, anticipation for a barrel tailored to slug shooting has been highly desired. The long awaited .35 Cal STX Heavy liner as well as the perfectly paired .35 Cal FX Hybrid have arrived for those yearning to shoot .35 caliber slugs from their Impact.

AGN-.35-Heavy.jpg

Larger caliber slug shooting has until this point often been associated with subpar precision at standard distances like 100 yards. Shooters have had to be okay with groups as large as 2-3”, with assurances that a larger kill zone on game makes the loose precision acceptable. FX Airguns does not accept these standards. All calibers should be able to produce 1” groups at 100 yards and shoot at speeds that allow a flat trajectory that help accomplish this precision. This is particularly true when you pair the new FX STX .35 Heavy Liner with the new .35 Cal FX Hybrid Slug. (These were the same slugs many shooters were using at this years RMAC Big Bore Slug challenge consistently hitting targets out to 300 yards!!)

AGN-.35-Hybrid.jpg

Extensive R&D and testing has taken place to ensure the accuracy and precision you expect from an FX Airgun in this new .35 caliber heavy liner. The FX .35 Cal Hybrid Slugs work particularly well with this new heavy liner and are available on the market. The liner can be purchased separately and added to any existing .35 Cal Impact.

AGN-Old-vs-New-Inlet.jpg

This testing has also resulted in a new brass inlet on all .35 Cal barrels that will allow for even better accuracy for the .35 liner as compared to the previous design. This new design allows the slug or pellet to seat better in the rifling of the barrel. Note that the new barrel inlet only works with the updated FX Rear Power Block. (All .35 Cal FX Impacts now have the Rear Power Block and this updated inlet. Older rifles can be updated, see your local FX dealer or FX importer for more information.)

AGN-.35-Tensioned-Barrel.jpg

The STX .35 Cal Heavy Liner comes standard as part of the new .35 Cal Tensioned Barrel Kit. These barrels are available in either 700mm or 800mm. The tensioned outer carbon fiber sleeve provides rigidity that is perfectly suited to the additional energy and vibrations created by slugs. From a barrel harmonics standpoint, the tensioner system reduces the amplitude of barrel movement which results in better accuracy and more consistency. This aids both slug and pellet shooting particularly at the 800mm length.

The FX .35 Cal STX Heavy liner and .35 Tensioned Barrel Kits are shipping now to FX dealers. The new FX .35 Cal Hybrid Slug is also available now.
