A Simple, Graphic DOPE Charting "Application" for Mil-Dot Optics - No Installation Required!

Hey there folks,
I made this simple "application" for phones, that doesn't require an installation at all - whether you believe it or not, it's just a text file, that you can modify to your needs, or to your liking for that matter, and that's it. First of all, one you've put your pellet drop-off points (for individual distances, either in yds or in meters) on a piece of paper, then you can start positioning the drop points onto the reticle in the program, by coding them in yourselves. Of course, I'll have to explain how to do it first, since most of you probably aren't familiar with web coding technologies, such as: HTML, css, JavaScript, XML... et cetera.

Here's how this "program/app" looks in Google Chrome on my phone:

app.png

OK, so the image below shows five paragraphs of code circled in red... by manipulating the 'cx' and the 'cy' values you can move the coloured dots, representing your DOPE/drop-off points, around, so that they'll correspond to the scheme on your piece of paper. The reticle that I have in most of my scopes is the Mil-Dot and that's why I decided to use that as a template for the reticle in the program. There are 5 distances for adjustment in the program, these are at 10, 25, 50, 75 and at 90 yards/meters, depending on what you'd like to go with. So, in order to adjsust the points with the code, you have to manipulate the values of the cx and the cy variables. To move a certain point horizontally, along the X axis, only change, or otherwise adapt, the values in the brackets following the variables... i.e. from cx="350" to cx="300" ... now you've moved an individual point to the left (adjust as much as you have to, in order to get the right, corresponding result). Same goes for verticality, example given; Adjust from cy="200" to cy="250" ...to go down, or from 200 to 160 to go up.

code_snippet.png

I was using Notepad++ to make this, the code here is also opened with Note++.

code_snippet_2.png

Now, I don't know if I can upload .HTML files here, google usually doesn't allow that, and that's why I'm going to upload a .txt file, that you have to rename from DOPE_sheet_plan.txt to DOPE_sheet_plan.html ...and that's it. From here on you can OPEN and EDIT the said .html file with either the basic notepad, or you can download Notepad++ for free and use that to edit the code. By the way, you can also rename and edit the file on your phones, even though it's probably going to be a bit more tricky to locate the needed lines of code for manipulating the dots. And of course, you can open the .html file on your phones with either Chrome, Mozzila or some other browser.

I hope you'll find this thing somewhat useful, I certainly do, because I usually forget scope holdovers on my guns and then I'm completely in the dark about my point of reference with aiming, or rangefinding for that matter. I uploaded this .html file on my phone and I'm using it quite often, I have to say... And since I found it useful, someone else here could find it so too.

The DOPE_sheet_plan.txt text file should be somewhere down here...

What's your most naturally (stock, as-is) COMFORTABLE gun?

Thought I'd throw this out there. With all the different variants, models & materials available to us now I was curious about the comfort-of-hold aspect that any particular gun has for you. After being totally consumed by airguns for the last 6 years I've gotten to try & own MANY. For me, it has to be my pepper laminate FX Boss. I seem to meld with that gun like no other. The contours of the stock fit me like a glove & as soon as I put my cheek to it I feel as though it's part of me. No need to adjust my eye for sight relief or shifting of shoulder to get it right. NONE of the tactical style guns I've tried comes anywhere close to the classic style & wood stock for comfort & natural feel. I'm not talking precision or accuracy here, just downright COMFORT of a PERFECTLY FITTING gun. How bout you? Which one "does it" for you & why?

New member - Odessa, Florida.

Hello, I started my Airgun journey a few months ago. I will have to say that I'm totally hooked. I started out with a Daisy 880 just a few months ago and now my collection has grown and I don't think it's going to stop growing. From what I have seen in this forum I'm glad there is a good community behind airguns. Looking forward to enjoying the hobby.

3D printing service

Not sure if anybody who is into the R&D part of our sport has thought of this or not. So here is my idea: With the new Panthera, when you add the bottle to the front we loose the entire rail system. Would it be possible to make bottle clamps, I am thinking 2 would be needed, that had threaded inserts so we could bolt the OEM hand guard/m-lok to them. We would still loose the over barrel portion. I know there are different bottles, with different diameters so this would have to be taken into account. I think somebody with the ability to CAD and 3D print could make this a viable option for us.

Dual at 20 yards.

Whatever the weather later

I am pitting my HW110 scoped PCP against my springer HW77 with open sights. I have a job to do first to keep SWMBO off my back and then let battle commence. Six Bulls each I think. Common sense says the HW110 will take it but I think anything could happen. Bit bored Yup. Back later:)

FX Airguns Results at the Inaugural NorthEast Airgun Classic (NAC)

FX Airguns was honored to be a title sponsor of the first annual North East Airgun Classic in New Hampshire at the Sig Sauer Academy. There were over 100 registered shooters competing for their share of $30,000 in prize money in the following events: 100 yrd Benchrest, Precision Shooting Challenge (PRS-style event), Pro-Am and the Squatch-Bomb Challenge (Long-Range challenge to 300 yrds).

NAC-Winners.jpg

The 100 yard benchrest was narrowed to 15 final competitors that competed in a rain delayed final on Sunday. The weather provided a clear challenge with wind and rain upping the degree of difficulty.

Pro-Winners-on-Bench-2.jpg

FX Airguns shined in astounding form. Though multiple manufacturer’s rifles were being used, the lineup of finalists seemed to almost entirely consist of the FX Impact (with the exception being one FX Crown in the mix!). The finals were very competitive with only 12 points seperately 1st place from 10th place (and x3 tied just one point behind 1st place!). The winner of the 100 yrd benchrest was Adam Migel who was shooting a .30 Cal FX Impact M3 (with Air Marksman Backbone & Anvil rail). Adam made the trip from Utah and walks away with $5,000 as the overall 100yrd Benchrest winner.

Pro-Winners-on-Bench-3.jpg

Placing 2nd was Kate Jacobson (daughter of Utah Airguns owner Justin Jacobson) who was shooting her FX Impact M3, and Thayne Simmons from Saber Tactical taking 3rd place with his FX Impact M3 (and using Saber Tactical gear of course included the double tank adapter). They won $2,500 and $1,000 respectfully. Congratulation to all finalists and for the support from those who attended the event.

Pro-Winners-on-Bench-1.jpg

The North East Airgun Classic was a resounding success and competitors clearly enjoyed having a great east coast event so early in the year. John, Frank and the entire team and volunteers at North East Airguns did a fantastic job in their first ever event. It also should be noted that this was the first event to have all competitors scores be recorded for the ProAir Federation rankings. The ProAir organization is currently rolling out beta testing with a few select airgun clubs and are set to officially launch in the coming months.

The next post will cover the Precision Rifle event and the long distance Squatch-Bomb challenge. Look forward to seeing everyone at the next scheduled major airgun competition, the 2023 Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge!

Powerful long range rifle suggestions

In 2-3 months i m getting a second rifle as my local range expands to 200/300/400 meters so i m starting doing my homework.

I have a gauntlet2 .30 that shoots fine out to 100 meters but i d like something else for longer range.

Budget is around 1500$, must be .25cal and must have a magazine, otherwise i would have already got a texan. I will only be using slugs,so no chocked barrels. Bonus if it s tactical form factor.

*When i m saying powerful,i mean in relation with flatter "bullet" trajectory.

I d like to hear your suggestions, apart from FX guns as i already did my research on them and tried them from others at the range.

HW50s Question....

Specifically a question about the open sights on this rifle, I find the open sights to be VERY difficult to use when aiming at targets with a dark background and in poor lighting (like is more often than not on the hunting conditions) my question is does anyone have a solution to this problem without adding any weight to the rifle? I want to use this gun in hunt settings and don't want to carry any extra weight around for hours on end. I just want to find out if others have rectified this problem without changing the stock sights, just making altercations to what we have.

Targets  SOLD Lil Stinger Scorpion Field Target

I’m selling a new Lil Stinger scorpion field target. I am the maker of these targets and IMHO are the best made ones on the market. I can make custom designs also. Only the best components are used on these targets. There are only 3 visible welds and every thing in TIG welded so there isn’t any splatter. Selling price is $130 plus shipping.
P/M me with any questions.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Raw BM500 Benchrest Rifle

I am selling my RAW BM500 .177 benchrest rifle. This rifle has been tuned and I used it for 25 yds and 50 ft benchrest matches. It shoots lights out. I made a decision to sell it and continue using my Thomas since I have Br. and field target stocks for it. I paid a little too much for it when one couldn’t be found so I am taking a loss on it. Asking price is $2000 plus shipping. I will accept Zelle, cashier check. Any questions please PM me.

Vector Veyron

After having a defective FFP version of this scope, I decided to give it another try so this time I went with the SFP scope and wanted to do it justice and say it's great. Clarity is very good, initial tracking check looked good, parallax change doesn't change poi. I noticed the parallax knob has SER screws and can be calibrated and changed. So I took my rangefinder and without looking at the distance on the knob but just making adj til no parallax error and to my surprise from 10 to 100yds was dead on with the markings. Nice attention to detail. My only complaint and a minor one at that, is the narrow fov, but I'm getting use to that.

Beeman P17

I picked up a P17 from Pyramid Air a couple of weeks ago and took it for a spin today. Out of the box I was hitting tin cans today at twenty yards this morning. Great little pistol and well worth the $45. If you are looking for a reasonably priced shooter, give this one a look! Very fun and seems to like every pellet I have tried.
