I made a pellet order while PA had their 4th of July sale. The tins are a little different and there is scotch tape on them instead of the traditional tape that we are all familiar with, also the foam padding is different. Has any one seen this from other vendors? The pellets look OK although I haven’t shot any yet. Just wondering.

Hello neighbor

Hello @.20calguy

Howdy neighbor, thought I would share a couple of pictures of what I am cooking for lunch today. Just a little small pot of my Seafood Gumbo and as you can see, I built the Roux not quite to chocolate before adding it into the Gumbo. I used 1-1/2 pounds of Andouille sausage to season my cast iron skillet to make the Roux. Thought you would appreciate that, have a great day.

Barrel Polishing Question?

I have a .22 Avenger barrel that is very rough where the rifling begins at the breach. I did polish and recrown and pushed several pellets by hand, the first 2.5 inches of the rifling are rather tight as well. I polished with a bore mop and JB and put a lot of extra effort in the tight spot including using a drill (with mop).
I'm thinking of using the back end of a drill bit, grinding a taper and polishing like a recrown. I'm not to concerned about being tight at the breach but this sharp edge must go.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Painterman... aka David from Indy

ALWAYS. Take. A. Follow. Up.

Was getting milk for my baby and noticed a furry friend at the balcony for one. Ran upstairst and gently put my baby on the floor then gently pulled the trigger on the AEA SF in .30 in what would rank one of my all time best shot placements.

I usually do a double tap either to the body or the head just to be sure and expire the body faster but it as 6am and impact sounded like a gunshot lol. Saw him on the floor and knew he was DRT so I quickly closed the window and took care of my baby.

About 20 minutes later I went outside to clean and was shocked he wasn’t in the dirt but a good 3-4 feet away staining my yard with his blood. Luckily it washed away very easily but I’m really going to always follow up.. it wasn’t until I checked the footage that I realised how he got there.

There are some super zombie squirrels in my yard! A couple hours later I hit another one with a bad shot through the right hand, left arm, left leg. It ran off. I grabbed my BRK .22 and chased him to the corner of the fences and threaded a rock and fence post for another body shot. Put the pathfinder away and came back to get him with the fireplace tongs and it was still alive! Grabbed it and put it on a dirt pile and put 3 more into him at point blank before it stopped moving. The whole situation was a mess and I felt really bad. These squirrels are just tough mofos and anything except a perfect headshot just doesn’t get the job done.

Four, ten shot strings through Pathfinder XR

Please be mindful that these are simply my first shot strings out of this gun. So the numbers may change. I sent 10 Crosman Premier Hollowpoints at all three TP settings. And one string with JSB Exact Jumbo 18s, TP on high. I’ve done nothing to this gun, just unboxed, scoped it and started shooting.

Steyr info?

Got a chance at RMAC to check out the Steyr guns. Brian from Edgun West is involved as many know but they are on their own site separate from the Edguns. Had hoped to see more people share their experience with them as they seemed to have started or been in the mix when quality semi-auto airguns first hit the market. Some are very compact and seen perfect for a field gun. If you aren't familiar please check them out and if you have experience please share. I'm thinking I found my new WFT rifle for Worlds next year and possibly a new squirrel gun.

Two of the best higher power PCP pistols.

Veles - 1.jpeg

Figured I'd start with the airgun pic and then talk about them. I've posted about these before, but haven't used them in a while and just got to them again in the pistol rotation so I got excited.

These are the EdGun Veles in .177 (top) and .22. Both tuned with Huma regulators.
The .177 is shooting 10.34gr @ 700 fps (11.25 fpe)
The .22 is shooting 15.89gr @ 725 fpr (18.55 fpe)

Both are extremely quiet with the stock moderators for the power output. Both very accurate and capable of sub 1" groups out to ~45 yards in my backyard rested on a bag. About 20 shots each per fill (maybe more - I've never chrono'd them to off reg). Not a match trigger, but still very usable.

Finally got a Rainstorm

Hey all,

12 years ago, I decided I needed a nice air gun, and ended up building a Crosman 1322 with a bunch of custom parts. I consulted the experts on Gateway to Airguns forums. At that time I became aware of PCP airguns. In particular I remember seeing posts by a user knifemaker and @Nomadic Pirate 66 about Rainstorms. I think FX was not as big at that time, and side lever guns were not as common. I though, maybe some day, I’ll get a Rainstorm.

Well, numerous PCPs that I have bought and sold since, today is that day. I got a Rainstor5797BB21-5D97-4D66-95D8-B7CA50339ED2.jpegm in .30 cal that I purchased from @Nomadic Pirate 66. This one has been tuned by the late Will Piatt. I like the ergonomics, the balance is nice, the lever is smooth, and the trigger is very nice.

The 51 grain JSBs are supposed to arrive Wednesday. Looking forward to getting it zipping some lead over the chrono and seeing how it groups at 50 yards. It has been a while since I have played with a non regulated gun, so I am looking forward to getting geeky figuring out the power curve.

FX Panthera with drop-down front bottle adapter ST0060

Wanted to add more bottle volume to my Panthera but didn't like the look of the Panthera without the barrel guard. Saw Saber Tactical's Drop-down front bottle adapter and gave it a try. https://sabertacticalinc.com/products/fx-panthera-drop-down-adapter-st00xx. stainless steel electroplating was nice. Easy to install. Put a slim 300 bar 300cc bottle on the front for a total of 600cc. I didn't want anything too long like a 580 or a 700 cc because my Panthera is a 500. Maybe a 420 would be OK.

BSA R10 - "Buddy Bottle" broke off?

Purchased my BSA R10 (.177) in 2015. It started losing air about 2 years ago, but I wasn't shooting it much as I recently had bought my RAW HM1000x.
Filled it up and shot it a few times, but then the air would always leak out over time ....
Recently bought new o-ring re-seal kit and tried to fill it today. Couldn't even begin to hold air, so I finally decided it was time to take it apart.

Took off the stock and noticed the buddy bottle was loose, so I tried to unscrew it and lone behold ... it crumbled off the gun?
Apparently, the connection piece between the bottle/gun atrophied and the bottle crumbled off as I unscrewed it?

Hopefully, I can get the broken connecting part out of each ..... regulator section and bottle?

Anyone had this issue?

Must have been water in the bottle from the hand pumping days

Does anyone make a carbon fiber bottle that fits OEM stock or am I forced to use the same buddy bottle set-up?

I'm being overrun by 10 or more raccoons each night

I'm new to this forum and I am not an avid marksman. I live in a 300 house subdivision near Detroit Michigan. I have put out a trail cam and have spotted several different families of raccoons using my side and back yard as major highway causing deep trails in my yard. I have purchased a dog proof trap but i need something to dispatch the coon once he's caught. Is there an economical air gun that people would recommend that is easy to conceal and comes with a moderator to keep the sound down. Our state allows the killing of raccoons all year round.

Thank you in advance.

HAH! I did it. Finally! The tale? Read on.

Hi AGN. I've been absent lately. I live a very mundane life so nothing new to write in about. BUT now,oh boy, lol. I bought a HW97K,22cal,,last year. Yea,,should have gotten the .177 but anyhow. She was gonna be a 25 yard bench queen. Well I did all the standard stuff when I got it. Cleaned it real good and shot it alot with fodder pellets to break it in. I got it a nice scope. A Discovery VT-2 / 10X44 SF. Sent it back before even mounting it because it would not focus. The guy complained but sent another 1. This focused until I had mounted it and when I tried to focus it,it would not move. I put the big wheel on it and that broke it. Never got off 1 shot. Needless to say that is the last Discovery product I will ever buy. Ate that loss and bought a Hawke AMX 10 X 44 IL SF scope. So I settled down to business. She shows a strong preference for H&N FTT 14 grain, head size 4.55. I was not getting the results I expected. I kinda figured the problem was at the trigger because it had this creeping 2nd stage that I just could'nt figure out. I did'nt know what to do about it. So I mentioned it here on AGN. Some1 said to adjust this 1 screw. It turned into a small ordeal, which is why I don't like doing these things anymore. BUT it helped,,it helped alot. The results took awhile. I changed my bench set-up and tweaked my hold & this and that. I was so close so many times. I now present to you the famously over used term. THE 1 HOLE 5 SHOT GROUP at 25 yards. YES!! May I remind the reader. This is a stock 22cal HW 97K.o_O

Yong Heng vs Tuxing Double Cylinder

Hi,

My Yong Heng is almost 4 years old and its dying. However I am looking at the Tuxing Double(twin) Cylinder just the standard model since I got all the filters already from my Yong Heng.

Does anyone know if the Double Cylinder model is more reliable then the Yong Heng for filling a 7 liter tank? Does it fill faster than a Yong Heng due the design? My Yong Heng served me well but it is so damn loud. I considered a dive compressor aswell but thats a bit out of my budget.

Talking about this model :

Tuning  R11(HW98) Piston Problem

I have a R11 that I bought new in 2005. I purchased it to use it as a "practice gun" as I was into powder burning bench rest competition at the time. Turns out it wasn't good for my intended purpose, so it has spend almost 20 years in my gun safe. Maybe has had 1 tin of JSB 8.44s shot through it. Currently it averages 761fps with the 8.44s.
Since I'm planning on shooting it a lot in the future, this morning I disassembled it to lubricate the spring and seal expecting to see lots of dried up grease but to my surprise it was in really good shape to have sat for almost 20 years.
Here's the problem.......where the cocking shoe rides on the piston there appears to be metal "crunched up" at the upper end.....see pictures.
It's appears to have been this way since new and it hasn't caused any operational problems that I have seen or felt.
If some of you experienced guys would take a look I would really appreciate it. Wondering if I could just "hammer" down the crinkled up metal so the cocking shoe could travel all the way up? Do I need to try to find another piston assembly?
Again, the gun cocks and shoots fine.
I did order a Vortek PG4 kit to install while I have the gun disassembled.

My sexy little bullpup rabbit slayer.

I took my sexy little bullpup “Elly” out for a walk tonight.
Went to a permission I haven’t been to in about a month. Well, it’s actually two permissions next to each other.
The property’s belong to an Uncle and his nephew. Combined they are about 15 acres of paddocks, gates and fences 😂.
It was actually a nice night, had two short spells of light drizzel, then the stars came out!
I find with these flat horse property’s it is more productive to walk around slowly and quietly in the dark looking for rabbits through the thermal scope, there is just too much area to cover to sit quietly and wait for them.
These two property’s share a common boundary with a third property, and as Murphy would have it, all the rabbits seem to be on the other side of the fence, the side I don’t have permission to shoot 😡.
As soon as they know I’m around they dash off under the fence, run another 5m then turn around, sit down and just stare back at me through the fence! It’s like they know they are safe on that side 😡.
All up I managed to get 12 tonight.
This little AirArms S510 in a bullpup stock is such a sweet little rifle. At 12fpe it is so quiet aswell. The hammer spring makes more noise then the muzzel.
I can’t fathom why it’s previous owner would have ever wanted to sell it… 🤔😂

It seems crazy that this little .177 shoots an 8.44gr pellet, when compared to the 30gr .22 slug the dream line is shooting. That is almost a quarter of the weight of the slug.
A quarter of the weight!!!
And at 30 and 40m, those bunnies just keel over, every bit as dead as when they’r hit by a 30grain slug 😉

Any time spent out side under the stars, quietly walking around with a sexy little thing, is time well spent in my opinion 😉
Pete.

Never thought I’d be thinking this…..

Well, I’ve been shooting PCPs now for over 20 years which ended up with me owning two Daystates, one Wolverine R and one Red Wolf. Thing is, I’ve recently bought a Walther LGV which has turned my life upside down. I’ve sold the Wolverine and about to sell my Red Wolf to a friend. Whenever I’ve been to my club, the PCPs didn’t even come out. I’m finding the feeling of hitting bullseyes with the springer much more exciting than the PCPs. I’m having to reawaken long lost skills and enjoying every moment. I’m not suggesting that one type is better than the other, it’s just that I find the PCPs too clinical (this even more so with the electronic trigger on the RW!). Hitting a bull with either of the Daystates was just kind of expected. Not so with the springer. Has anybody else taken this route? Most I know have moved on to PCPs.

I posted a similar post here in the UK and got some fantastic discussions going with some in agreement and others thinking I was nuts. :):)

Here is the culprit!

IMG_5006.jpeg

The weekend with my Evol HPS (high powered slug) tuning it to be an air sipping 18.13 monster!

I had posted this in the Evol thread but wanted to share with the rest of you

So the original Evol HPS is a fantastic rifle but did not fair so well with my slug testing, come to find that when it was released it was setup for a slug by NSA that Nick no longer produces. All that said I didn't really get it to be a slugger, I just wanted a second evol.

So friday I mounted my MDTTac SRS Short stock in FDE , took it out and shot some 25.39 monster redesigns, and well, you all were right when you warned me about the incredible inconsistency within the tins of these pellets. I opened a new tin, shot some groups, out of 10 I got one that was "acceptable" to me.

That brings me to Saturday. Saturday I degassed the rifle, tore it down, and by god are these things easy to work on and tune. It was actually a pleasurable experience, not a million and 1 little pieces to remove, special tools needed (aside from the barrel removal tool) , or headaches, purely simple.

Saturday I got an absolutely incredibly consistent tune but others had questioned the air usage, only getting 55 or so shots shooting 18.13 from the rifle and as the pics show, it was damn consistent, and accuracy was there.

20230708_201427.jpg

Well, thanks to members I chat with regularly questioning the air usage because Sunday, I wanted to tune some more!!!

I finally ended up here,

An Evol HPS Shooting 18.13 for 135 shots a fill at ~30 FPE , extremely quiet, extremely docile, and extremely accurate with such a light projectile.

I then got rid of all my MRDs. LMFAO!

I am loving the addition of the MDTTAC stock (the LOP is perfect for me) but I am still finding it hard to get comfortable behind the high scope , I noticed this when it was on my HUBEN at NAC, as well as when it was on the HPS with its original magpul PRS stock. I am thinking about going with a smaller objective lens to bring the centerline of the scope closer to the centerline of the barrel and provide me with a more comfortable position. Something with a better eye box and eye relief for me too. I realize if I go below 50mm objective I may sacrifice some mag.

The .177 pellet

Now there is a definite following with this caliber , which I am not one of. Hence the post. Me shying away has nothing to do with any monty python "biggest dicchus" attitude, in fact it is my arthritis making handling and loading said projectiles a challenge- thereby minimizing enjoyment in my desired hobby. Putting that aside, why is the 177 cal prefered over the 22 by such a good portion of shooters? Cost is virtually the same that I had observed. Ok , I give the flatter trajectory, cool. I have yet to see this appeal specifically, but there is obviously, just look at all the varied weights you can get today. JSB even came out with a 16g, the 177 version of the monster redesign. The 177 field has expanded big time, the primary benefit looks to be target shooting, or hunting / pesting applications to really test ones skill. I know almost nothing about this caliber, so 177 folks, fill me in.

22 caliber - the most popular?

It is claimed that the 22 caliber is THE most popular caliber in airgun use today. There is plenty of reason to believe that. The weight range of 22 cal pellets is impressive. Cost per pellet is also substantially beneficial versus their larger caliber counterparts. The recent increase in power of the guns has expanded the versatility of this caliber with slugs and monster redesigns. Both in target and hunting. Their economical nature versus the 25 caliber also elevates their standing with both pellets and slugs. I prefer 25 caliber, but 22 caliber has made big advances and I'm gaining new respect for them.
