We Need an AGN Hall of Fame

I was thinking that an AGN Hall of Fame would be entertaining for members who have come and gone and whose presence left an indelible mark on this community. Some folks have come and gone, but presented some of the most zany and outrageous content on these forums. A lot of the time their names have been erased or deleted and their posts now read “Guest” or “Deleted…” One of the most memorable guys I’ve seen the past couple of years was CheckUrSix. I may have him mixed up with another member, but he’s posted some funny stuff too. The guy I have in mind came into the forums calling out a known competition benchrest shooter and some of the banter that ensued was absolutely hilarious!! Especially when the guy posted videos of his skills shooting into the mud instead of targets.

On occasion I see something that reminds me of members like this. Sometimes the forums can be entertaining. I don’t mean this to be malicious, just a little ribbing. Who do you remember similarly?

Missed more than I hit.

I made a quick trip to the farm today on the ATV. It has been months since I was out there. I am rusty as heck with the pest control game - but had a good time. I am still working on the Tactacam - I have a long way to go to rival the rest of y'all.

One of the solid hits I made.
One where i gave just a haircut
And one where I shot the squirrel through the spine.

18” LW barrel is pretty amazing

I’ve been shooting a variety of projectiles out of my modified Talon P at about 30 yards. This has an 18” .25 LW barrel and doug noble hammer and spring (valve should be incoming one of these days).

First, the JSB heavies shoot very consistently. I guess I should expect this, but I didn’t get any flyers and basically all of the shots that deviated much from the sim point i think clearly reflected my own issues with timing and movement.

I then tried a few slugs that I cast:

1. MP molds 48 grain round nose
2. NOE 50 grain BBT (FN and HP)
3. NOE 60 grain BBT (FN and HP)

They all basically went to the same spot, and only a little bit of windage adjustment was needed for the 50 grain BBT. All three of these shot at least as well as the JSB in my completely non-scientific experiment. The reason I was comparing these is I was thinking there would be a clear-cut choice for which was the best projectile to cast for that choked barrel but at this range I was able to get similar sized groups for all of these. I assumed the JSB would be obviously most accurate, but not so much. I might as well cast my own rather than purchase those at this point since they all exceed my personal shooting accuracy.

In this set, the MP molds seems like it was slightly more accurate but that could just be luck and I will probably end up casting this one just because it’s a Six cavity mold and works very well.

Fx crown setup

Hi, I picked up a .177 crown mk2 (500mm) on my way home from work today, got home and the first thing i was doing was meassure the fps on the pellets/slugs i have to see Whats best before sighting in my scope. And straight out of the box it shot "meh" 500fps with jsb monster. The reg was set at 110bar, port at high and 23 on the last knob. I have tried to adjust alot and mix things up, but if I increase the reg it only slows down, so now im down to 90bar and my best pellet/slug is jsb KO 13.4gr @ 750fps, thats about max of what I can get out of this, the monsters is around 720 on same setting. The accuracy is amazing and it shoots consistent and Nice. But something in me i think expected more after seen some YT vids of the Gherard guy shooting 20gr slugs with 177 crown with reg on 155bar, high port and low hammerspring and getting 850 fps but that is with 100mm longer barrel tho.

But very happy with it if this is the limit ofc.

PCP Rifle  NLA SOLD-FX Dreamline Tact Compact .177-New price

For sale is my FX Dreamline Tact Compact in ,177 caliber. This one is the bottle version and has the additional plenum. I have it currently set up at 12 FPE and intended to use it for PFT once the stock is removed but alas, there's no PFT events near me. It can easily be returned to the 20 fpe level by increasing the reg pressure. I'm the original owner and have not shot this gun very much so it's in almost perfect condition. Comes with one magazine and adjustable Hogue AR buttstock. Scope, rings and moderator are not included. This is very nice for backyard pesting or target shooting. Firm price is $1050 shipped to your CONUS location. I no longer use Paypal but will accept cashiers check or USPS MO. PM me for more info.

Falx suppressor on .25 Airacuda max

Just received my Falx (.177-.30 bore) moderate flow suppressor yesterday. I threaded it in tight by hand. Not getting the accuracy that I was getting prior to this. The sound is a lot better but very disappointing w the change of accuracy. Does anybody have any help for me? My grouping is about a 1 inch to 2 inch with 30+ shots At 50 yards. Prior to this I was getting a grouping of 1 inch to 1/12 inch max.

Maverick Tricked Out

For my Maverick I got the Universal Saber Tactical rail. Totally happy with it, and found these nice covers that slide into the side M-Lok rails for a better feel. Even BeTTeR! They don't really 'lock in' fore/aft but do stay put just by using it. I slid them with gentle light force slowly as they employ very small lips on the bottom catches. Just thought I'd pass on.

B5 Systems M-LOK Rail Cover

Also the Hogue Modular 17° grip works great but I did have to obtain 40mm M6 1.0 thread bolt to install it.

Ran off a shot string, left it at full power for shot count run. 170/145 regs 245bar fill at start of testing.
30 shots all 1011fps nearly. 31st shot was first one under 1,000fps at 150 bar like 985fps. Just using 30.86 H&Ns for testing on the cheap.

Slugs it does 983fps 33.5gr, 71 ft•lbs.
Tomorrow will put power wheel at 4 or 5 to see how that does.

HW Barrel For My RTI Compact

Today I got to work on my HW 22cal barrel for my RTI compact (P1. It was late when I got home and was in a rush to get my evening farm chores done but still managed to see how the HW Barrel was going to work out.. my compact was set up to shoot 13gr 177 slugs (510mm LW barrel) at 960fps... Without touching a thing other than installing the HW barrel (also 510mm) it pushed JSB 18gr 994fps!! I wasn't quite expecting that kind of jump... A quick re-zero on the scope and started tweaking in the tune (I use a fixed reg set to 150b) it shot Very well at 994 but I kept backing the hammer spring down... 950 shot a tad better.. rifle was sounding better.. backing it down to 900... The accuracy is right there and the rifle sounds even better... When I got to 820... The accuracy is still spot on but the rifle sounds perfect... Super quiet... Shot cycle is great... Smoooooth!! I upped it to 850ish and called it!... I believe I'm going to shoot it set there for awhile... I do have intentions to see how it likes slugs later..as this is one of my favorite hunting rigs and would prefer it to shoot slugs but if it doesn't.. it doesn't.... Not a problem... Pellets it will be!!

Falcon and Brocock

FN8 .22
FN12 .22
BRK Grand Prix .177
Atomic XR .25
Don't get a lot of shots per fill. But I sure do like shooting them.
The Atomic is supposed to be a pistol. But it sure makes a great Carbine!
Same with the FN8. A great pistol. Even better as a Carbine with the Light hunter stock. Back in the day this was called a "Rat-in-ater".
And the FN12 with the lighthunter skeleton stock back in the day was the "tom-in-ater" as in Tom turkey.

Seneca Dragon Fly 22

Hi Everyone;

I read the "Godfather's" 16 posts about the Seneca Dragon Fly over at PA a couple of days ago and decided to see if it was all he claimed it to be. You can find the last post in that thread here: Tom Gaylord's Review of The Seneca Dragon Fly Just keep that one open in your browser and peruse as all links to other posts in the thread are only in that last post. It is well worth your time if you have not read it and you are at all interested in the rifle.

His work there was spot on as far as I have been able to determine. My gun came in this afternoon and (Having read Tom's work) decided to test the velocity at various stroke counts and graph that before actually doing anything else with the rifle. To that end I put some 320 or so strokes into the gun shooting Meister Kugeln 14 grain WC pellets. I chronographed velocities at 1,3,5,7,9,10,11,13,and 15 pumps. I computed Standard Deviations for muzzle velocity at each data point. I extrapolated averages for 2,4,6,8,12 and 14 pumps. I then graphed the average velocities in this chart.
Seneca-FPS-per-Pump-Initial.jpg

Rather than repeat what Mr. Gaylord said I'll point you to his reviews to read as he addressed all points well. I am going to use this thread to document my adventures with the rifle. I must say I am highly impressed with the rifle, particularly at it's price point. Standard deviations for the velocities were exceptional and averaged out to 6 fps for all data points. I believe that will improve when the rifle is "shot in" which Tom addresses in his evaluations.

I am looking forward to mounting an optic and wringing this rifle out on the bench and in the field.

More to follow.

Mike

Local Airgun Store (Return)

I’m new to the PCP world and got the itch so bad yesterday that I went to a local airgun store set on leaving with something. They didn’t have exactly what I was looking for, but I ended up walking out with a Gauntlet 2 in .22. As soon as I got home, I fired one pellet to see how “friendly” it would be in the backyard. Pretty dang loud, not a huge deal.

Fast forward to today and I am not happy with my purchase. I’m sure the G2 is nice for a lot of people, but it ain’t me. It’s looong, heavy, the bolt is heavy as hell, and I’m just not happy with it. I went up to the store after work today and asked what the return policy was. The salesman looked at me like I had a lampshade on my head. Am I crazy to think that I should be able to return this airgun? He took down my name and number and said he would have the owner call me to discuss.

What is the general consensus regarding a situation like this? The airgun is still essentially new. For reference there was nothing specific said when I was purchasing about returns or lack thereof. No signs in the shop, no info on the receipt, etc.

I’m interested in other people’s experiences.

Great day at the 200 yard range, despite the 3-6 mph winds. Splitting playing cards

Great day that the Diablo Rod and Gun Club in Concord, CA shooting my Texan at 200 yards.
Winds were 3-6 MPH right to left. I 3d printed some simple card holders to see if I can split cards at 200 yards.

I was able to split 2 cards and possibly 3 cards at 200 yards. 2 of the 3 cards blew away in the winds after impact.
Texan .257 LLS 72 grain Griffin slugs 3000 psi at approx. 990 fps.
Cold Shot, Vector Optics Minotaur 12x60x60 scope,, Remple Fclass bipod and tethered with a Regman regulator and 98 cubic pcp tank.

Breech O-rings

Hey all,

Just wondering. For my company and our pest control needs, I went and bought 3 PCP air rifles.

Let's just say it's not going well.
I found JSB's getting stuck and the skirts tearing, hard cycling, etc.
I sent my first Akela back due to a trigger issue. The second one tore skirts apart, hard cycling. Changed pellets. Seems to work ok now.
I have been so busy, I haven't even tried the third one yet. It's a Hatsan Bullboss due to the nasty conditions we will use it in.
To be honest, I don't even want to try it. The whole PCP thing has been such a total let down. I won't even take it out of the box. I got it months ago.
I get it. In todays world, quality control is nonexistant. Everything comes either pre-broken or you need to modify/ fix everything before using it. This is the world we now live in.

Apparently, I need breech O-rings. Lots of them. The Akelas eat them like a fat kid in a donut shop. The sad thing is that I've gone through a few and the last one lasted @100 rounds. And of course, the tech at Crosman says it's easy to do without taking the barrel off. Yeah....I have a fleet of vehicles and equipment for my business I maintain without a problem. The whole o-ring replacement without taking the whole dam thing apart wasn't happening.
This is my busiest time of year. I just don't have time for this. I do like the accuracy, though.

I've read that there are some more durable o-rings out there. Can anyone hook me up with some info on where I can get .177 and .22 caliber decent O-rings?
I was so pissed off today, I almost threw the one rifle in the trash. And I'm the kind of guy who will not burden someone else with my problems. I WILL toss it in the trash.

It's to the point, I look what I have invested, the compressor, the 3 rifles and I just get sick.
I'm a life long shooter (mostly rimfire) and "upgraded" from springers which I have used for decades without issue.

*ETA_ I have maybe 3 sessions on the one Akela and only 1 on the other. None on the one still in the box, as I'm too pissed off to even try.
