Huben  Huben shooters

I've had my 25 for about a month now. Kelly had the reg set @ 18.5 / 30 clicks. shooting , I dont remember exactly. Approx 500 rds, slugs & pellets. I sped her up 2 clicks and accuracy improved. However, 1 magazine + a few shots would be all I could get from a tube. The book says to keep reg around 18 for trouble free operations.
Well, I lowered the reg to 13.5. I get the same speeds @ 37 clicks, fewer "krazy Ivans" & tighter ES. My SD IS AROUND 4. AND I get 3 magazines from a charge.
Any one else tried this?
I reset her to Kelly's settings and low shot count returned with the spikes and such.
Is this trouble in the works? After 1500 rds , I can't see how.
I intend to , after some feed back, return to the lower reg and wider valve..

Union Jack worth?

So I found a Union Jack BSA gold star SE. looks to be about 90% condition. Last one I seen on her was almost a year ago and he was asking 950. Anybody know what one would be worth?

Got on a BSA kick recently. Been trying not to buy one, but I don’t want to let one run off if it’s a good deal. I just simply don’t know what they are worth. There’s a beautiful R10 on here that I would love to have. I might, if the Union Jack is out in left field.

My first video in my journey with my evols

This is my first video in my journey with the evols, it's not the greatest but Anyways I hope you guys enjoy this very short introduction into my airgun life.

I know, I need to liven up a bit on camera :)

Any other tips would be appreciated

Still working on getting a better focus on the tactacam!

PCP Rifle  SOLD Brocock .25 Cal HP

The gun is like new, I just haven't shot it much since I got an Impact .25. It's been over 110° for almost a month, but we has some clouds this morning so I took advantage of it (then it started to rain). This is literally the first time I've shot the gun in 6 months. No leaks and stock factory settings. The gun shoots 25.39 grain JSB @ 935 FPS on Mid-power and about 965 FPS on High. $800 shipped UPS to the lower 48. I'll include the bi-pod, but not the scope or the rings,

Not all barrels can shoot slugs.

Hello AGN members, You may shoot slugs out of your traditional pcp’s with good results but that’s just not right. Here's why.

This is a LW barrel blank found in majority of the PCP's - Airgun Blank CHOKED - Twist:17.7" | .22 air | OD:.39" | L:23.82" | precision rifle steel tube | Airgun barrels | Gun barrel blanks | Lothar Walther gun and rifle barrels online shop - USA (lothar-walther.com)

The bore measures 5.46 mm (0.215), while the groove is slightly larger at 5.62 mm (0.221).

So,

If you're using a 0.216 projectile for the subject matter, you should achieve satisfactory groupings at a distance of 50 yards. I corroborated this information on a random forum among Umarex Origin / Avenger owners, and they confirmed the same. The user group was for 25 cal, but outcome is related to any caliber under 0.357.
signal-2023-07-28-155829_002.jpeg

There is absolutely nothing wrong. In what they have experienced. As seen in the video made by STKO here

But,

For a trained eye, those aint flyers. For many it's too good, under half inch @100yd. But the truth is, groups could be much tighter, as the group marked in Red is actually the result of the barrel's nature.
signal-2023-07-28-155829_003.jpeg

I do not wish to discuss about velocities and power, It is a separate topic discussed. It is best described here (What's The Best Slug Weight For My PCP Air Rifle? - Hard Air Magazine). I wish to discuss about the barrel construction and specifications. Twist rate is also a different topic altogether and we do have good posts here ( Velocity vs. Barrel Twist Rates | Airgun Forum | Airgun Nation | Best Airgun Site | Airgun Message Board ).

So as the topic says, Not all barrels can shoot slugs,

Here is the rational explanation. In Q&A format.

Q. So whats wrong?

A. The barrel.

A JSB pellet boasts a head diameter of 5.52 +- 0.01 mm and a skirt diameter of 5.71 +- 0.01 mm. The head fits snugly between the bore and groove, encompassing around 45% of the depth, ensuring an optimal engagement. Moreover, the skirt covers approximately 101.017% of the total barrel diameter, fully enveloping the barrel profile's extremities, creating a perfect seal and ideal head engagement. ( That’s why pellet sizers do not work if you pass the entire pellet through it)

1.JPG

As you fire the shot, the skirt no longer needs to expand; instead, it bulges and harnesses the charge, accelerating towards the Choke. (You can find numerous images of fired and recovered pellets online illustrating this process.) The choke measures approximately 0.012 mm less than the bore diameter or 0.0005 inches. It serves as a constant tapering section, molding the slug by pressing against the grooved contact surface and effectively swaging it into a uniform diameter.
signal-2023-07-28-160543_002.png

The skirt features a meticulously engineered conical section that readily collapses and deforms with minimal effort, contributing to a highly efficient discharge. As seen in the image below.

On the other hand, the 0.216 slug is relatively loose-fitting, akin to riding the bore, resulting in numerous air passageways.

3.JPG

Consequently, this creates the following scenario:

I would like you to imagine how Jason Statham would say these lines.

  • So, you've got quite a bit of space between the groove and slug diameter, allowing the City of London to run a tube service right through it! Your air charge exceeds and exits faster than the preceding slug. What you don't realize is the amount of energy you're losing.
  • Now, as you approach the choke, guess what? You've got a solid chunk that's fatter than an éclair (for the choke, at least!). There's no tail section to deform. The result is that you end up losing velocity and a fair bit of the slug to the choke.
  • And finally, the grooves cut into the slug, causing you to choke your barrel with lead deposition, making it a smoothbore much sooner. Wonder why you need regular bore cleaning?

Jokes apart, Addressing the elephant in the room,

Q But I shoot slugs well, so does it even matter?

A. Yes It does, because you are loosing a ton of power and you loose a lot of BC. And tighter groups of course.

Q. Can I shoot heavy slugs like those Youtubers?

A. Not at all in the stock gun configuration, but you may shoot a 23-grain slug with much more efficiency as compared to 23 grain pellets, you can reach farther distances, Miss less targets and save ££££.

Q. So whats the solution?

A. A barrel with revised specifications…..

Q. What are those?

A. Lets brainstorm at the AGN forum. Here.

Plinking with my daughters

It was a very memorable day for me to be able to do some target shooting with my daughters.
They both shot well with the Crown and Impact out to 50 yards.

It is a long video, so hopefully you will watch till the end as we had some great laughs together.

Thanks for watching.

Air Venturi  Avenge-x rollout delayed

The major pcp retailers have pushed back the andvertised availability date of the Avenge-X 6 weeks from 8-21 to 10-03. Bummer! I really think the line-up Is going to set the standard for mid-grade best bang for the buck. I think this is at least the third announced roll out date change. I‘d rather them get gen 1 right than rush out some lemons.

AEA  Honest opinions on AEA Rifles

I see a lot of reviews and tests and for the most part it seems like the majority of AEA rifles are very accurate. The prices aren't ridiculous and they look pretty good overall.
What my concern is why is there so many for sale in the classifieds?
I am in the market for a 25 cal pcp and my budget can't stand up to a $2000.00 rifle without glass .
If anyone has owned a Challenger pro for a while maybe chime in and let me know if you're completely happy or not .
Thanks in advance ,
Terry

Using a PCP for ducks in California…

So if you are all familiar with Matt Dubber...I’m sure you have seen him nailing ducks on water from many yards away. My question is now…is that allowed here in California?

I know you can basically shoot any kind of upland game bird with an air rifle. Turkey included. Same for the rabbits and squirrels. But, does the same apply to waterfowl? I ask because I found a pretty neat spot in a BLM hunting land where they sit on the water just like in Matt Dubber‘s videos. It would be easy pickings especially using something like my FX rifles and some slugs.

Thoughts?

Tuning  Finally

I had a lot of trouble with my tx not shooting good velocity only around 770 fps with vortek pg4ho kit, tried everything new seals piston and breech pulled the comp tube end cap off re sealed it with no success . always around 770 fps. tried new spring every thing I could think of it was driving me nuts. lol
So I ordered a new comp tube from Pyramid air good service.
I put he new comp tube in with new piston seal and new breech seals and is now shooting 850 to 860 fps and is a dream to shoot.
I also had a diana48 177 barrel from awhile ago and machined it to fit my pro sport so my pro sport is now 177cal instead of .22 cal.The barrel is 12" long compared to the 9" pro sport barrel and it shoots Wonderfull but a bit twangy work on that latter maybe another vortek pg4ho kit I do like the way they shoot. Steve!

N/A  When JSB do not help us airguners with the accuracy…..

The following three pellets ara JSB’s 25.39 grain .25 Cal..

IMG_2640.jpeg

They “appear “ to be identical, but they are not and they do not fly equally.

Look them from below. They are absolutely different!!!! And that is why if you mix them, they will hit in very different places notwithstanding your rifle was dully zeroed with some of them:

IMG_2639.jpeg

It is convenient to confirm with which kind of pellets you have zeroed your rifle and then to take care of shooting with exactly the same kind of pellets in order you can obtain consistency.

PCP Rifle  NLA Trading FX Impact MK2/M3 for…

Let me know what you got. Looking for even trades (this means in the performance/adjustability department; not so much the cost). This here is a MK2 upgraded to an M3.

Plenum 720, tungsten hammer, WIKA gauges, bigger side lever, 580cc bottle, Huma high flow regulator, barrel clamp + stiffener, saber tactical reversible block, and some more extras including the factory reg. The liner is a 2023 superior heavy liner (this is my own, not the one that came with the purchase). Has the serial number on it if you want to double check. Also has a carbon fiber sleeve on the liner.

Basically is an M3.

Comes in a FX Impact standard hard case.

One thing worth mentioning is that there is an unnoticeable marring of the aluminum in one small spot. Not that it affects much.

I hit it DEAD center...no you didn't...YES I DID!!!

All right ... Just here to stir up a bit of trouble.
Most of us who have been around Field Target awhile have heard this....

LOOK LOOK LOOK there's a pellet mark "DEAD CENTER" I hit it dead center!!!
That's my zero. NO F***ing way I missed that shot. It's a faulty target, it didn't @#%%$#$ go down!!!

I chuckle a bit as this reminded me of myself when I was starting out.

Yup you guessed it ...it was a splitter. If the shooter would just take the time and scrutinize the rim of the Kill Zone, he/she may see that telltale pellet mark.
Some targets are designed to lock up if a pellet touches the rim and/or face plate. Your pellet may have grazed the rim and ultimately hit the paddle...Dead Center...unfortunately, if the paddle/face plate doesn't fall...can't give you a point buddy. Sorry

In the imperfect world of Field Target...I guess the only way to be sure is to challenge the target and make the match director test the target.

I'm proud to say that I've never officially challenged a target in any field target shoot. Maybe because deep down ...I knew I sucked and I probably shot a splitter. LOL

Unofficially, I've taken 3rd, 4th , and 5th, shots during a club match just to knock that F***ing thing down (with the knowledge and approval of the match director)...so I don't have nightmares. Thank you match directors for thinking about my mental health.
