N/A  The elusive airgun that AVERAGES 100 yard sub moa groups.

I've been chasing long range airgun accuracy for 4 or 5 years now. And mostly trying to do it with relatively low power setups. The combined variables of "long range" and "low power" make it quite the challenge. While I do stretch out the distance shooting pests to much further, the metric for the long range/sub moa airgun has been simple, paper at 100 yards. Sometimes EBR targets, and sometimes just shooting at printed circles. About three years ago I moved into a house with 135 yards off the back porch. That easy access has been a blessing and a curse. I find myself out there at least 3 or 4 times every week, usually shooting to 100 yards. Sometimes it's even at night, after work and the kids are in bed. Lots of comparing and assessing whether or not a changed variable in the recipe (gun/projectile/speed/barrel/twist rate/choke/sizing/etc etc etc) makes much of a difference.

I finally stumbled upon one, the elusive airgun that AVERAGES sub moa, 100 yard groups. Now, many guys will share an exceptional cherrypicked 100 yard group that is MOA or better, but it's pretty rare to see somebody sharing results of a gun AVERAGING moa or better at 100 yards, at ANY power level. I've been shooting this gun/barrel/projectile combo for a couple months and can definitively say that it AVERAGES sub moa 100 yard groups. This is not the occasional cherry-picked moa group, but day in and day out, I can shoot 5, or 10, or 15 groups, measure them and average out the CTC and it'll be less than 1 inch.

Here is the most recent example. This was shot just a few evenings ago after I'd gotten home from a field target match. Hadn't scrubbed the barrel in a while so pulled the barrel and the shroud and gave the bore a thorough clean. Put it back together, walked some paper down to 100 yards, and shot this. The bottom right bull were my sighters, after that I moved up to the upper left and took 5 shots, then upper right, etc. That first group of shots that "counted" is stretched a bit right to left, telling me I should have taken a few more sighters to figure out the wind. The upper right had one shot drop low, about as bad of a flyer as this combo produces. The final 3x5 shot groups were pretty dang good though. So, the best and worst work out to 0.6moa and 1.4 moa. Average of the 5 shot groups is 0.95" or 0.9072moa. This is the first 29 consecutive shots after the barrel was cleaned (4 sighters and 25 counted shots). For those familiar with the EBR target format, out of 25 shots, 10 are 10s, 14 are 9s and the "flyer" is a 7. The EBR score would be a 233.

PXL_20231112_000929161.jpg

This is the second more recent example, shot maybe two weeks ago. I didn't use the EBR target, but just a 8 bull target. The larger circles on this printed target are 1 and 3/8" so it makes the groups look worse than the larger bull EBR targets above. There are 8x5 shot groups here, sighters were in the upper left, and "count" towards my average. This is also all consecutive shots, just like the target above. So this is 40 back to back shots. Again 100 yards. Best group was 7/8" worse was 1.25." The average of these 8x5 shot groups is 0.98" or 0.9358MOA.

PXL_20231105_003023630.jpg

These are not the only examples of the AVERAGE 100 yard sub moa results, just the most recent.

The primary parts of the recipe are: a BRK Ghost with a 12 land and groove, choked .20 Lothar Walther barrel shooting the NSA .20/18.9grain @ only 875-880, for about 32fpe.

Parallax Wheels - pictures of "the spread"

I thought it would be interesting to see pictures of different Ranging Wheels and how the focal point numbers spread out on the wheel, or don't when using 16X. The idea of this thread is to demonstrate which scopes range better or at least allow for more travel while using the parallax knob to determine distances. It would seem the greater spread in numbers would translate to more detailed focal points. Ideally you would take pics of your wheel showing the spread from 9-65 yards - approximate - and perhaps the size of your wheel because we know a bigger diameter wheel does help to spread the numbers out a bit. This should be interesting. We may learn that a couple of specific scope models/wheels do a better job of spreading out the numbers. Outside temp for this ranging setup was 64 degrees F.

First off on this thread is my JD Custom Nautilus wheel mounted and range marked using my Athlon HERAS SPR 6-24x56 FFP Mil scope.

300 yards on steel with .25 M3

We had a great time at the range this weekend. As many know, there is something very gratifying about the sound of smacking steel at long range.

I was shooting some .25 prototype slugs out of my 700mm M3 with a Coldshot adjustable base and the Absolute MOA Digital Readout. Conditions were breezy and cold but we still had a lot of fun.

The wind tricked me a few times which made for some close misses but overall there was some decent shooting considering the conditions.

When clipping isn't an issue.......

So here's the deal. I shoot a Compact Taipan Vet in .25. It shoots great without an aftermarket moderator. If I do my part, dime sized groups @50 yds.
But when ever I spin on a moderator, it significantly adds to my flyers, regardless of the company. I've tried several name brand moderators. I go one size up in moderator size, so I know its not clipping. And I can visually see that I don't have a clipping issue.

I'm no airflow expert, but it seems to me that the back pressure by adding moderator is disturbing the flight of my pellets, causing the flyers.

The gun is a little hard on my ears if I don't use an external moderator, and using ear plugs/muffs is kind of a PITA. I haven't experimented with any air strippers yet.

But I guess I'd like to know if there are any manufacturers that incorporate an airstripper in their moderator design. Or if there are any guys here that design this type of devise.

Thanks for looking.

RAW Rapid  Horizontal power plenum for RAW HM1000X longer stock, and a hanging plenum

A US based friend asked me if I can make a horizontal large plenum for his following gun which has longer stock.

Screenshot_20231112_222432.jpg

Since his stock had enough extra space to support a horizontal plenum, we designed it for the 1st time.

It's for new HM1000X gun that has larger regulator cavity and larger dia for the inbuilt plenum cavity. I don't have this model of RAW.

Some friends helped me and provided me a Huma regulator for the required model. We obtained the specs.

Also some friends on this forum shared some data.

Finally the following horizontal large plenum has been made.

20231112_221957.jpg

Total added length is around 2.6".

The plenum capacity is 67cc.

Largest dia is 63mm as advised by the user.

There are also high efficiency valves and anti hammer bounce devices to make the complete upgrade package.

There is also a set of hanging plenum and valve and anti hammer bounce device for a UK based user. This plenum is 76cc.

I hope that both sets will enhance the performance of RAW guns to great extent.

Both plenums are made out of solid bar of high grade stainless steel and designed by mechanical engineer for peace of mind.

The real life testing will be done in a couple of days and then these shall be dispatched.

Daystate  Scored two vintage Daystates today!

I went to the Indy 1500 gun show in Indianapolis today and scored two vintage Daystates.

1st up is a Huntsman MKI in .177 sporting a target stock.

and her younger sister, a Huntsman MKII in .177

IMG_8016.jpeg

I'll have to track down some left hand stocks for them before I can use them though.

Daystate  .25 Wolverine

Extreme Field Target in Leesburg, Fl. Is end of this month and neither my .177’s nor my .22 platforms have the knock down power needed for EFT. I ordered this Wolverine in .25 Hp from Tenacious Airguns (Derrick Wall) and he’s tuned the beast for 33.95’s and sorted out the trigger.
I’ll most likely move my Nightforce NX8 and an 20 MOA monorail over to it when it arrives this week 11/12/2023.
I’ve been warned this pit bull has a substantial acoustic bark; so I’m hoping my high flow STO .30 Sarrisa moderator will change this authoritative bark into a tolerable woof.
If anyone has experience with this platform please share your experience.
Picture 2 is 5 shots at 50 yards.
Thank you.

Limited Edition anything

Seems like Daystate likes to create rarity for sales sake?
Over the years I’ve seen and enjoyed owning a few of these unicorns.
Nice hard cases, special finishes with matching moderators, laser etched logos and fancy stippling and sometimes stock upgrades? Supposedly they select special barrels ?
What is y’all’s thoughts on these guns?

PA

Anybody order over $150 in product from PA lately? I was going to order the FX 720 plenum/power block kit from them and they were going to charge me $17 shipping 😡 The kit was $219 which should've qualified for free shipping. I received their catalog yesterday and there it was, free shipping for orders over $150.

Just for info, UA didn't charge any tax and shipping was only $7 for the same thing.

What airguns or gear would you like to see in 2024?

I'd like to see
1) a small lightweight hand pump suitable for hiking with. Something that weighs under 2 pounds and can be stuffed in a daypack. Obviously there would have to be compromises to make it, but if we can make lightweight and powerful multipump pneumatics I'm sure someone can figure out how to make just the pump.
2) an AEG, (electric), bb gun with traditional styling for under $200. It should have a large capacity internal magazine and a dovetail or rail for optics. The electric drive really makes for an awesome plinker. Unlike CO2 you just plug in a rechargeable battery and shoot all day. Now they just need to make one that's affordable and I'd prefer a traditional layout. It just seems like they handle better for fast offhand plinking within 25 yards.
3) an inexpensive bugbuster scope. You simply can't get those things for $50 anymore or even close to it. It doesn't need the name, just decent quality, a rock bottom price, compact size and an objective that focuses down to 5 yards.

Compressors  NLA Possible good deal in Louisville Kentucky?

NOT mine, not even in the same state You NEED to have a 440v system . If this is not allowed then please delete. Do your due diligence. If you’re local to Louisville Kentucky then this might be a good deal you for a Nuvair compressor and more goodies.
These are some of the pictures that were sent to me-
