Snowpeak  60 fpe from a P35?

Some of you may remember me discussing trying to get 50 fpe from my 25 caliber P35 before. I have done it but inevitably the next time I go to shoot the gun the regulator is too high for the hammer to open the valve so fpe is a lot lower. So I give up and tune it for mid 40s and enjoy it. Until the bug for more power strikes again.

I was gifted a P35X recently that I still do not have working right. Power was lower than my P35-25 (both are 25 caliber). The barrel port was way too small, appropriate for a 22 caliber, and I thought the rest of the passages in the gun would be too. But they turned out to be reasonably OK. I still drilled them out to 85% of bore diameter. But that gun still doesn't shoot right. I turned the reg down trying to get a nice 30 fpe 25 out of it and it seemed to work, until it stopped working.

Long way of saying the parts of the P35X which do work, the longer barrel and hammer spring are now on my P35-25. But it's regulator seems to have decided not to work now and new O-rings has not fixed it yet. But I noticed the velocity and thus fpe was significantly greater when it fell off the regulator.

So today I pulled the regulator, took it out of the gun entirely. I aired it up initially to 170bar and got 852 fps on 34 grain JSBs. Velocity rose as pressure fell reaching a maximum of 912 fps at a little over 140 bar. That was with the hammer spring at maximum. So I started turning it down. It is now at 1.5 turns less than maximum. That has reduced velocity some but no more than about 25 fps.

With a 140bar fill I got a string of 867 to 888 back to 867 over 1 magazine of 8 shots. And it is accurate. One hole groups at 30 yards. There is a fairly loud ping but I may find a bottle brush that will help with that. If I wanted or needed more shots I could fill a little higher, like 150 bar, and shoot down a little further. ES would go up but the POI would not change a whole lot. 867fps on 34 grain pellets equates to about 57 fpe. 888 is about 60 fpe.

My role for this gun is mainly to thump something like a mature raccoon, coyote or a pesky muskrat pretty hard. I am not likely to need more than 8 shots for this (if I do I deserve to be unsuccessful). So for now I am leaving it set up this way.

AirMaks Arms  The krait line of guns - what's the difference?

Obviously there are differences, otherwise why have the different designations. I'm however, very interested in those differences. I'll list what I think is correct with each, Please fill in all accurate information I miss. Thank you

1 - Krait, Their original benchmark offering that had initial trouble with the regs, has been fixed.
2 - Krait L, As far as I know, just a krait with a longer barrel.
3 - Krait X, This is the high power version with the adaption for slug shooting with possible different barrel and power increase.
4 - Krait Lite, I have no Idea the benefits of this model, except price point, what's it giving up?
5 - Krait pro, newest version, extra rails, more adjustability as far as I can tell.

That's it, OK Krait fans, please chime in and help my uneducated self! LOL!

What might be next for Taipan?

With their Veteran 2 ADF version with the handle adjustment. This gun should rock for a while. The Slash is an innovative Idea that has yet to have it's limits totally vetted, but there is much promise. My question is what do they try next? I'm thinking the next logical choice is a standard side lever repeater while incorporating the more powerful valving system the slash uses. Keep the usual CZ unchoked 1/17.7 twist barrel, with the stronger valving a 550mm barrel can generate enough power for slugs so as to be able to keep OAL from becoming too long. Also incorporate 30 cal option. Magazines can be flexible like the regular wheel mags of the vet 2 or spring load type as many others are, preferably all metal like epic or BRK. What do you think? Any other ideas? Don't say price, because a quality gun with these features with typical Taipan quality, will be up there.

Athlon Ares ETR UHG 3-18x50 34 MM Mrad in FFP with IR

Athlon continues to impress me for what it makes at the price point it gives us.
I continue my quest (obsession) to find the worlds greatest HFT scope for ranging at 16X.
this scope will be limited to 15x as marked for HFT.
I am currently waiting on a 6" round parallax wheel for this scope, but my initial workup on the bench has me totally impressed with the I.Q.
Stay tuned for pics and further details.

Caldwell Precision Turret

How many of you run the Caldwell Precision Turret? I’ve been using mine for a while now and really appreciate the concept—solid platform, adjustable height, and great for blind setups or bench shooting. That said, I’ve never been a big fan of the stock clamp. It does the job, but the lock/unlock action is a bit binary, and there's not much room for micro-adjustment or fluid repositioning.

I recently swapped it out for a WEYLLAN ball head and it completely changed the feel. Way smoother movement, quieter transitions (huge for coyotes), and the dual-knob setup lets me dial in tension exactly how I want it. Plus, it returns to zero reliably after angled shots, which helps in tight shooting lanes.

Anyone else mod theirs? I'd love to see how folks are optimizing theirs for field use—whether it’s clamp swaps, stealth upgrades, or plate mods.

I jailed Alvin and Theodore

To start out with, Alvin showed up last year early summer of 2024 for about three days then vanished. Then he shows up this June and stuck around and along came Theodore early July. I did not have any problems with them that I could tell at the time (mistake) and became fond of them running around as it was entertaining. One day I noticed clumps of sunflowers popping up in the yard and all over in the bark dust. They broke the law. I had Alvin in my cross hairs at 32 yds. (head shot) but just couldn't pull the trigger so I went down to tractor supply and bought a Havahart live trap, first day caught Alvin the second day Theodore. I released them next to a creek in the woods about 2 miles away. The wife says you shoot everything else around here, squirrels, rabbits, racoons, possums, why not them ? I told her they were just too cute lol. BTW I used peanut butter and pressed sunflower seeds into it. Here's Alvin

New squirrel feeder = busy backyard

I made a squirrel feeder out of 3 inch PVC and screwed it to a tree about 50 yards from my patio where I normally shoot from. Well, the word has gotten out and it’s become a hangout for the locals. The squirrels are really enjoying it and I don’t mind the cardinals getting something to eat but I’m not going to feed the crows.
This morning I gave them a little lesson with the .25 Krait shooting 25 gr. At 930.

FX Archery Chronograph vs. cheap Chinese chronograph.

I shot the FX Archery Chonograph simultaneously with the cheap Chinese chronograph. It was pretty messed-up looking, I should have taken a picture. Shots according to the FX were from 917 fps to 863 (80 shots, fell off the reg). The Chinese chrony thought the shots were slower by a little more than a percent.

Having the Chinese chrony around scared the FX into its best behavior; it didn't miss a shot.

how to check the humidity at the output of hand pump ?

I am planning to get a hand pump with a molecular sieve filter at the output for removing moisture. Obviously the filter need be as small as possible or I will be having a hard time to get the pressure to 200 bars . However, having a small filter also means that the effectiveness of removing moisture will be reduced. Are there any ways to check the moisture level at the output ? may be some kind of test paper ? will appreciate some advice.

Other  Walther 210

These last 2 orders I received are probably were nerve racking to say the least. Had 3 rifles 6 months to the day get delivered. And this gun was shipped in June. Two weeks ago Purolator called and told me they had no idea where it was. They would refund the sender. Next thing I know I get an e-mail to pick up your package. Which I did today. 45 min. drive away.
I bought 3 rifles from this guy. All the same case and locations. First bill was $55. Second time they wanted $171. I asked if they were for real. Ended up paying $91. I was pissed. This time, it took almost 5 weeks, (pony express would be faster) $71. Same case and locations. Lesson learned.
Any who this is what I was in a panic for. Even more so than the other 3 rifles. Those I can reorder, this I can’t.
Walther LG 210. I was told it was a j model, don’t see it.
I don’t remember hearing much about this rifle, but it’s a Walther.

Vortex Venom 3-15.. hmm

I purchased the MOA version to try out based on Joe's review ( Cyclops) some time back..
I had read some people having issues with the 5-25 with maybe not the greatest glass..
Well I can say for sure that the 3-15 x 44 that I got is an extremely clear picture all the way to 15 with very good ranging and focus that isn't too finicky.
Yeah the turrets a little mushy compared to others, but the crystal clear image more than makes up for it..
I have never had a Vortex but had to try.. Glad I did.

Umarex  ZELOS HEAVY DUTY BOTTOM RAIL.

Here is another great Zelos product from www.heartlandairguns.com it's a heavy duty trigger guard replacement bottom rail. There is nothing to compare this to it's tough I mounted it on my Zelos , and clamped it in a vice that's how tough it is. Fits perfect very snug. I'm adding a few more pics of the double mag as well , but there is a full review on this under PCP. OldVet.

Air gun identification

I picked this up a while back as it was inexpensive, don't know much about it. its 177 caliber spring gun made in Shanghai China. That is the only markings on it. It has a very heavy wooden stock, with sling mounts on the side, simular to a military style.
Question is does anyone have any information on this gun it does shoot pretty well and has a super strong cocking spring.

N/A  Ok serious off the wall question

If you were able to have an unlimited amount of money and you can go to any factory and build their new air rifle or pistol, which company and what would your idea be. I’ll go first.

I would build an FX. I would take the King And make it bull pup. Take the King, M4 and the Leopard and make a child. I would take the Kings block and over the barrel plenum and integrate it with a Leopard but able to customize it like an M4. Have a magazine the size of an M4 and be able to load the weapon like the M4. Be able to go from .177 to .35 caliber. I would use the quick tune system MAYBE the valve tune system but honestly the quick tune does the job pretty well for fine tuning by itself on the M4. I’ll make the trigger guard like the M4 for attachments. Cocking mechanism like the M4.

I know I know “Why not buy the M4” I like the simplicity and block and plenum as the King with the customizable abilities as a M4 and a bull pup. So what would be yalls builds?

Flies for targets

I am somewhat new here but I do not see many talking about shooting flies for targets. A number of years ago when Beeman was a name and I was shooting my R1 a group of us would bait flies. A short length of dowel rod or even a stick stuck in the ground with a dab of hamburger meat on the top end. It was great fun to sit back maybe 50~75 feet and wait for a fly to land. Would not take long. We would take turns shooting and if your shot touched the meat you did not score. Even more fun arguing about you touched the meat, no I didn't.
