Pesting isn’t hunting! But…

In my 4 months here anybody that recognizes me might remember I’m limited to 13 yards for now.
Believe me I make the most of it Haa. So out the window ”opens” a new world. I have woods and
swamp behind house, which is great but 5 or so years ago the town put in a bike trail. So I gotta be
more cautious. Well the original pest which started my journey in high pressure air was squirrels.
I’m doing a (to me) a necessary job of deterring them. No pleasure and some guilt in not eating them
which ive never done. This week Starlings showed up. They’re ganging up under feeder. This pisses
me off. 3 days ago got my first shots yes shots with pistol at 10 yards. WTF missed, turn out red dot
way off on Reximex. Grabbed untried Beeman and nailed first black bastard. Very satisfying feeling.
2 days ago they were out there and I miss several times huh ? Damn sit my butt down on floor and grab
Revere. Ooo man they’re in the trees about 25 to 35 yards. Pop, it tumbled to ground. THAT was
satisfying. Yesterday in cellar shooting while peeking out tiny window. Black blobs appear. Hummm ?
Akela ready but has a red dot on, how about zelos it’s got air and whatever pellets. Rest on sill,
trajectory unknown Clink! and down it falls. About an hour later same thing.
This morning a repeat from first kill. Miss with pistol and knock one out of tree with Revere 25.
Satisfaction.

FX  FX Crown regulator??

Bought a Crown MK2 off classifieds and just went to fill gun and noticed that reg pressure was going up with the fill, at 225 bar reg gauge read 225 bar. I shut compressor off and fired 5 shots and reg went down with pressure gauge but stayed there. When I started fill reg gauge was on 145 bar.
Does this mean reg is junk or some how stuck?

Checking my FX Crown POA manually

After not hitting my target at 80+ yards using the info from the Element Ballistic Calculator, I had to manually set my target box from 40-80 yards just to dial up/down the aim point to ensure my FX Crown is hitting where it aims.

The issue might be me entering some incorrect data such as temp, velocity, BC etc into the Ballistic Calculator. Or that my regulator is not working properly.

Hopefully I will sort out my Crown soon as I will need it to battle all the starlings in the near future.

Enjoy.

Howdy from North Texas

I don’t know anything about Airgun. My kid shot with a borrowed gun in his first 4h competition last week as a spur of the moment decision (in addition to rimfire). My dude (10 year old), won the junior class with 2 out of 20 silhouettes.

What can I say a win is a win but he wants to shoot more and now I’m on the hunt for something for him to shoot. So I figured I’d better learn about air guns. Thanks in advance for all the knowledge here. I’ve been lurking for a few days and have already learned a bunch. Now i just have to figure out what he can shoot and how to afford it 😬.

Omega 4500 Compressor or GX E5K2…

Hello airgun gurus,

I have a CX4-I which runs great, but want something to fill my 6.8L Acecare bottle that doesn’t work so hard.

I considered a Carette II, but decided against it after reading other’s folks experiences trying to get support/parts for it after the sale.

Then I looked at the Omega 4500 over at AoA. I understand that AoA supports and has parts for it, which is good if so. Additionally, it appears that particular compressor is a re-branded GX E5K1 that’s more expensive ($1500 plus tax/ship).

Looking further, on the GX compressor “official website” GX E5K2s are on sale for about $1600, shipped. But then I’m wondering about parts and support availability.

Lastly, I consider myself handy and can tinker with minor/medium repair jobs that aren’t too complicated.

Which direction would y’all recommend I go? Thx!

JTS 18gr vs JSB 20.83gr KO slugs

I was testing out the KOs to see how they compared at accuracy and drift in some wind today. Shot at a dirt bank we had about 100yds away. 3 shots with the KOs then 3 with the JTS. Group wise actually both did very well I'd say under an inch shooting out the door of my truck. KOs were about half the drift. But what surprised me is I saw the backs of every KO. They opened up so well in that dirt it's comical compared to the JTS they got some hard lead lol. Only found one of them but literally looks like I just pushed it through with a cleaning rod lol it went in about an inch and a half deep into the dirt.

Will the 7mm That’s Being Introduced by the Wolfiek Group Prove to be Better for Competitive Shooters?

I read this article in Hard Air Mag. Looks interesting, but I don’t know enough about ballistics to understand the significance of a new caliber that will sit between .25 and .30 caliber pellets and slugs.

Using the Mildot

The vertical dot line. The very top dot this is your zero. The next dot down is the next distance out. If you start your zero at the center of the cross hairs you only use half the dots. If there are are 6 dots above the horizontal , and 6 below then you start at the center you get 6 positions if you start at the top dot you get 12 reference points. If each dot is say 10 yards then you can go from zero to 120 yards if you start at the center you only got 60 yards useing 1/2 of what that mil- dot is capable of.
This worked great for me years ago with my .308 Fal. I zeroed the top dot at 100 yards , and the next dot down was 200 ect. Was only able to shoot out to 800 with this method

Other  Chinese air rifles today

I shot two of my Chinese rifles today. I have two or three more that are under levers. One of these is a break barrel and the other is a side lever. Both shoot well and can shoot 2" groups at 25 feet offhand. I like the side lever best. I'm amazed at how well these cheap guns perform.
One thing I don't like is loading a pellet with the action open, danger of losing a finger or two.
