Light direction and ranging accuracy

Of recent I’ve been experimenting with how the direction of sunlight affects target faceplate ranging Accuracy. This issue affects the shooter - regardless of how expensive their scope is.
What I’ve learned may seem obvious to old timers, but it’s new to me, so I thought I’d share this information, in case others are struggling with the same thing.
A quick summary is:
when the light is at your back and more directly illuminating a faceplate in front of you, wow, ranging is easy And much more accurate = extreme clarity.
BUT
Put the sunlight at a right angle to the shooter or worse directly behind the object being ranged, and ranging distance accurately can become nearly impossible.

My understanding as to why this happens is because when the sunlight is coming more directly towards your eyes, your pupils are trying to constrict and if you are trying to look through the darkness of a scope, you need or want your pupils dilated to allow maximum light in for good faceplate definition.

Some shooters deal with this via ocular eyecups which don’t work if you wear glasses and some wear huge brimmed hats and I’ve seen some people throw a big towel over their heads and scope.

I certainly can’t affect the path of the sun and its a very real frustration and it causes me a lot of missed shots.

Wondering what and how the best shooters deal with this.

Chances of getting someone to follow me around with a big umbrella is probably against the rules 🙄

How many use the Zulus for...

Just wondering if anyone in here uses the Zulus, Or a Pard for that matter (smaller day/night optic) either 3-12 or 5-20, etc etc, as a dedicated Range optic?
I'm just wondering if I should keep it on all the time. I guess I'm probably so old-school I find it kind of foreign still..
So, Those that keep it on a target/range only rifle?
Those that hunt, I get it.. I'd just keep it there as well.

The past & now!

I been into air guns for several years now. I ,m a guy that has many interest in many different hobby’s. In doing that I put one
aside and go to another for sometime, then come back. No different with this one. Bit funny I remember back then when all
the talk was about Yong Heng compressors. If a new guy ask what compressor to buy, you can bet 7 out of ten would say
YH. Now you do not hear near as many talking about YH, as was in the past. It seems as GX compressors to be the hot
one to look at today. I could be wrong, but it seems that way to me🤔🪰 Fly

Karma  Just Got A Karma Red Panda

Karma Red Panda 2025 spec .30 cal pellet version. First five shots out of the box at 50 yards after zeroing the scope with AEA 45 grain pellets. About .382 MOA I believe. Pleased so far. Trigger needs a little work. Second stage breaks okay but first stage is a little mushy.

Benjamin  Did i miss the bubble? Marauder bottle guns

Im new here! I've had a marauder .22 with the LW barrel for about a year, it has been awesome! I recently got a gauntlet sl30 it is super HEAVY. So like anyone would do, I started researching cf bottles! While dipping my toe into that pool I came across marauder bottle conversions.... I'm in love. Is there a bottle "drop block" currently available for a marauder? Or one that can be modified to fit a marauder?

PCP Rifle  WTS FX Wildcat MK3 .25 NEW in Box!

NEW in Box .25 Cal FX Wildcat MK3. Synthetic. Never been shot. Comes with 1 magazine and I will throw in a tin of JSB pellets.

$1200 Shipped! Paypal, Zelle or cash in person.

The FX Wildcat MKIII BT Compact is new and improved, possessing more power and air capacity to handle slugs and heavier pellets. The build and function of this airgun made it the favorite off-hand hunting PCP for the last seven years. The increased power is thanks to the large 89cc Power Plenum found in the stock. This plenum truly caters towards slugs and heavy pellets, effectively extending the muzzle energy and therefore the range in which you can use it. (Note: if you prefer classic sized pellets, the standard Wildcat MKIII is the airgun for you.)

Dual FX AMP Regulators are what tame the massive power center and refine overall accuracy. The first regulator is found just after the carbon fiber bottle (aluminum bottle on the VP version); its purpose is to reduce the initial pressure in preparation for the second regulator, providing less stress as well as allowing the use of 300 BAR bottles. The second regulator regulates an extremely precise amount of air, which is an important factor in making each shot consistent. Combined with the FX Smooth Twist X Barrel System, shooters can be assured their rifle is at maximum accuracy.

The Wildcat MKIII BT offers extreme adjustability with the externally adjustable regulators and the rear power adjuster. Shooters can shift from higher speeds necessary to a long outdoor shot to lower power for backyard target practice. The rear power adjuster also allows for quick micro and macro adjustments to fine tune the ideal speed for the projectile you’re shooting.

Other  PUMPER COMPARISON

Did a comparison of the features on my pumpers. I ranked them on several factors and weighted each factor. Of course, this exercise is very subjective, and results would vary if I did the test again or others. Plus 2 of them had scopes but did not want the work to remove them for this test. The results were surprising. Note that you need Excel to view it, as I couldn't find a way to fit it on a PDF. Note: If you do not have Excel, you can download LibreOffice for free, and it has all the components of Microsoft Office. Excel format is in 97-2003.

A little organizing option.

I decided to get organized and put all my stuff in one box. Found a Dewalt tool box on Amazon that was tight sized, but usable. Just my own attempt at having my gear in one place and ready to go. I'm rather notorious for getting half way to where I'm going before I realized I forgot something!

RAW Rapid  Are higher powered PCP's more difficult to shoot accurately?

I've been shooting my 22cal RAW quite a bit the past six months. I've found a couple really good pellet/speed combos, shooting 25.4gr Rangemasters at 805fps or Monster Lights at 885fps. It's shooting around 35fpe. More power than this would cause the gun to jump a bit. I've also found what seems like the best way to rest the rifle. I've tried multiple rests, bags, and bipods, and various combos. The most accurate combo seems to be with a bipod out front and a lab lift under the grip. I've also tried various ways of holding the gun in this position. The most accurate appears to be with very light pressure on the grip and butt, and with a very light cheek rest. If I do everything perfect, the rifle will produce 1/2" groups at 50 yards.

Honestly, it's a complete PITA to get the very best groups out of this rifle. It's almost like shooting a springer. And it's not a light gun that easily shifts around - it's a 13lb beast the way it's set up.

Final 22 RAW.jpg

My 177cal RAW can be shot rested a bunch of different ways and easily produce 1/2" 50yd groups (assuming the wind isn't messing things up). I also had a Daystate Regal and it was the same way - accuracy didn't change depending on how the gun was held.

My question is this - is it common for higher powered guns to be hold-sensitive to get the best accuracy out of them?

FX  FX Impact Fill Valve Adapter

Hi,

Just thought I'd share this. If you're in a pinch and knowing not everyone is going to have a fill valve that fits the FX Imapct - I think this is great to have. So far it's been working great. No leaks. The only thing is, wish it was a different metal than brass. You can see the indentation in the first picture. The other fill valve adapter is the FX valve supplied by Utah Airguns.

Beeman  Beeman r7 in uk

A r7 in the uk is pretty scarce lots of hw30s but the r7 are much nicer .
This particular r7 in 177 had been doing a good job of eating itself suffering from dreadful galing. A comprehensive strip and rebuild was the order of the day .
A cocking arm modification was done including how it’s retained ,got rid of that pin and added a set screw adjuster .the piston was turned down and rear buttons added to the skirt the original spring was good so custom guides made along with top had . Deburr on all slots .seal wise 25mm Brit seal with their breach seal . Rifle is back together and shooting nice very consistent over the chrono @8fpe What’s really nice the rifle was bought with a blue ribbon scope which is excellent. I’m missing the dovetail front sight can’t find one in the uk so hopefully I’ll have better luck searching in the US 🇺🇸 a few pics

FX  Dreaded DRS bolt stuck in magazine/barrel

Brand new gun. Installed the 65cc plenum and was sighting in and go to cock again, no worky. Less than 50 shots fired total. Glad the the Airgun Channel dude was Brave enough to show NOT how to fix this Baboon style. I was able to push the probe out with a cleaning rod. I cleaned everything up and and used lock tight on the probe set screw. I think the factory mags don't help the problem. The Airgun Channel dude had problems with both his DRS's, maybe the set screws were not tightened properly at the factory. I would recommend lock titing the set screw as preventive measure, I'm also going to use aftermarket mags.
