FX  FX Impact MKII compact slug weight question

Hello All,

Just curious, for those who have an FX Impact compact running it at high power, what is the maximum weight .22 slug you've gotten to shoot well? I am running an NSA 23.0 grain .218 out of mine at 1000 fps and it shoots well. I use the gun mainly for pest control for everything from rodents to coyotes (I switch to .25 barrel at 92FPE for these) on my small farm.

I have a racoon issue right now and while I have shot a few, I would like to run a heavier slug if it will stabilize for coons as they can run 25lbs in the northeast with a thick fur coat in the fall. I can't be super picky (I know some people are gonna say "shoot 'em in the head" but thats not always an option) I am looking for a little more hitting power for chest cavity shots.

I like the air efficiency I get with the .22 and how maneuverable it is with the 500 barrel on it so it is how I leave it setup most of the time unless I know I have a particular coyote issue or I am actively hunting coyote. So thats why I am looking to make it a little more adaptable for body shots on coons.

WRABF World Championships in Finland

To be honest....I've been too tired to post anything about our team USA performance since coming home from Finland.

If I hadn't had a few people tell me that they were so sorry we didn't do well...I probably wouldn't be posting this. Haha
I guess most people assume that there was nothing to write home about if you haven't written home.

Team USA (Jeffrey, Bob, and I) won Gold in the team category for the Heavy Rifle competition.

Individually, I won Gold in 2gun, Gold in 3gun, Silver in Heavy Rifle, and Bronze in Light Rifle.

We all expected to do better in Unlimited but stuff happened....a lot of stuff.

The whole thing was incredibly stressful leading up to the event with preparation and travel problems ....and to top it off we got very sick while we were there. Fevers, chills, cough, and sore throat stuff. The jet lag itself was pretty devastating after crossing 11 time zones. Those things all together took a lot of wind from our sails but we did our best to represent the USA. We were all worn very thin by the time we made it home....then N50 Nats the following week. Haha

I only have one picture from the medals ceremony that someone else took. No cool pics of all our medals or shooting poses from the bench....sorry.

Replacement foam for rifle cases

When we were prepping to travel to Finland I got to looking for replacement foam for a couple rifle cases that had already been plucked for other configurations.

I was surprised by the cost of foam and quickly concluded that it was about the same to just buy a whole new case.

My wife suggested that maybe we just buy a 2" memory foam pad for a twin mattress and cut it up into case sized pieces. I was not sure how they would work out but it ended up far surpassing the original case foams and didn't need gun specific cutting. We got 4 case sized pieces from one twin pad...plus a little extra.

I used 2 pieces of the foam to sandwich the guns, actions, and extra barrels ....plus the original solid top and bottom foam from the cases and everything was exactly in the same place when we arrived and returned. Nothing moved a millimeter. Plus it can be used again and again for any new configuration since you are not cutting pockets in it.

It's actually way better than custom cut foam inserts.

It was a happy surprise.

new to guns, need purchase recommendations

Hello, I am looking for recommendations on what to purchase for attempting to eliminate pest crows invading my farm (and yes, this is legal where I live). They are damaging my crops, eating feed meant for our livestock, harassing our livestock and causing property damage. I've tried scarecrows, reflective tape, netting and noise control to no avail. I don't have a great shot but should be able to get pretty close (within 30 yards I'd guess). I'm hoping to stay under $300 (if possible- willing to go up if I have to to get rid of this huge headache).

  • Question
Breech Oring Alternatives?

My S45 absolutely loves NSA 196gr slugs, shoots them with amazing accuracy and great fps/fpe. However since they’re oversized they’ll throw out the breech oring. Would it be possible to make a similar breech seal out of whatever, say, valve poppets are made out of(I think this would be peek plastic?)? My guess is no since orings need to give some amount of “squish” to seal. This isn’t a big issue since other ammo works good as well but I’d love to hear from the experts.

New guy!

Hi all. Introducing myself and whittling down that 10 post min.

I'm just getting into air guns and found this site - lots of info here. As a kid I always had multi pumps - Crosman 760 if memory serves me. Back in those days the Benjamin 392 was the dream gun! As an adult I've toyed with springers but nothing "serious". Couple of Stoegers, a Gamo, and of course I bought that coveted 392.

I'm learning a ton just reading and look forward to the PCP world.

FX  Fx Panthera jumbo billet magazine

I’m pushing for the best possible magazine. And I’m getting so close.
Here’s a picture of a 29 shot Panthera .30.
This bad boy has machine time all throughout its sole. From 4 axis vertical milling, Lazer cutting and extended lathe work with a tinny bit of 3D printing. It will bring a new standard to Airgun magazines.
Monster Airguns will push to make this a real for you. This is only the first in a full line up of large magazines. We expecting to see the billet .30 Ghost any day.
Thanks for looking. Mont

Blooper reel

Ok guys, I know that you are all incredible marksmen who never miss, forget to load a magazine or accidentally leave the safety engaged, but I am a mere mortal and do such things all the time. I think it is healthy to be able to laugh and not take yourself to seriously.

So if you are feeling really manly, I challenge you to post your best blooper video or picture here!

'Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink'

Since I retired (11-years ago) I have been trying to buy one new air rifle each Fall/Winter. I've been trying to decide which new rifle I might buy this year and I can't come up with one???

I am very set-in-my-ways. I like old school, 'long' rifles and there are so few QUALITY rifles like that these days. Some years back manufacturers decided that tradition had no value in the airgun hobby. They started designing air rifles that are so far removed from traditional style that many of us older folks can barely recognize them as a, 'rifle'.

In recent years there have been a number of quality rifles released that accel for shooting off a bench or barricade but virtually useless for carrying in the field. Less than 1% of airgun enthusiast world wide participate in any sort of airgun competition yet it seems that the majority of new rifles are aimed toward competitive disciplines. I don't get it???

For me, I have to like the way a rifle looks to really enjoy it. I don't care how well it might shoot..., if it doesn't look appealing to me I don't want it.

Anyone else get what I am trying to say here?

N/A  Replacing gauge with foster fill?

I have a p70 with a new cylinder but am curious about replacing the gauge at the end with a foster quick fill like the one in the attached link.

I have an old AirArms S400 mpr that was the same style where the cylinder had to be removed from the gun to fill. I took it to MAC1 back years ago and he removed the gauge and replaced it with a foster.

I don’t care about a gauge and refilling on the rifle is so much more convenient.

Keeping track of your airguns.

How many of you with several airguns find it hard to keep track of max fill pressures, reg settings, favorite pellets and other variable data?
Max fill pressure is the big one for me.. I have 15+ PCP guns and my old eyes struggle to see the max fill pressure embossed on the gun for example.
This morning I started working on an EXCEL spreadsheet so I can have this kind of information at a glance.
Sure, I still keep a journal on most all of my guns but this sheet will be located near my compressors and on the shooting bench. The plan is to laminate it.
More intimate notes will go in the journals for reference to specific tuning and results for looking for issues that may arise. TriggerTreat's spreadsheet is also a great tool for tuning and reference on individual guns but like I said... this is for info on all guns at a glance.

New Barrel Prep for BR

How do you prepare a new Barrel for BR Competition?
Does Rifled VS. Poly change your method?
Do you "ultra clean" then start the leading in fresh?

Does a "new to you" barrel/rifle differ from a factory new barrel/rifle?

My Basics: Patchworm with Ballistol
Borescope inspect
Maybe scrub with Bronze brush
Patchworm and ballistol 'till dry patches are clean
Maybe Naptha clean and apply wax.

ZAN HYPER LINE Just Arrived

I got my batch of the new Hyper Line coated slugs in today. In .22 caliber and I got both 34.6 amd 40.7 grain. I couldn't go to the range today as it has been raining so I'll go out tomorrw and give them a run. I'll hook up my Triggercam and see how well the yellow shows up on filming.

Karma Airguns Slug Testing: Statistically Significant Groups?

Ask five airgunners what slug works best at grouping well at 50-yard tuning groups and at long range, and you’ll probably hear five different answers. The truth is, it’s not only about slug weight or twist rate. One of the biggest considerations a lot of airgunners don't realize is how well-suited that slug is for your bore size. It might be the most important variable when attempting to get slugs to perform well out of your specific rig. But what about all these groups we see on social media and here in the forums with amazing results? Well, there is often a story behind those groups and understanding that story will make you a more educated airgunner with real-world expectations.

50 Yard Grouping

At 100 yards and beyond, things get real and tell the full story when it comes to slug testing. Some air rifles will stack them at 50 yards and fall apart beyond that, but one thing I will guarantee is that this fallacy of a slug's ability to group at 100 if it was garbage at 50 is totally wrong. There is this concept we have seen posted for years in the online forums of projectiles going to "sleep" at a distance, leveling out their stability. If you have ever watched scope cam footage or witnessed yourself through your scope on a sunny day at the range, when a projectile starts to destabilize, there is no amount of "going to sleep" that is gonna fix the point of impact. We've seen pellets happen to spiral into a nice group because of a consistent instability that just so happens to have them spiral into a decent group, but move that target distance a bit forward or back, and now you have a shotgun pattern.

100 Yard Grouping

The other thing to point out is when we see those picture-perfect, tiny five-shot groups you see all over social media? It sometimes takes a bit of tuning and testing to get there. We are all a bit guilty of showing our best 5-shot groups, but we won't share those unless we know that is typical of our overall results on average. With that said, the importance of understanding statistical shot dispersion is important for every airgunner. If you have an MOA airgun slug and tune combo, you will 100% get some groups that open up after you shoot a statistically significant number of shots. It isn't ego or skill or sponsored content creation; it is just physics and statistical probability.

We've been digging into real numbers and testing from air rifles like the Karma lineup and FX platforms. If you’ve ever scratched your head wondering why your air rifle feels lights-out one day and inconsistent the next, or why a slug that looks great at 50 falls apart at 100, this is the discussion worth having. So how do you test your long-range slug performance? Do you trust small sample groups, or do you run the numbers until you see the full picture? This is a good, honest conversation to have... Let's hear it!

I just looked through 3 of my unmounted scopes

I got Element Helix mixed up with Aztec Emerald, so I have the Aztec 5.5-25x50....Then I found my Sightron Stac 4-20x50, followed by my Arken SH4-Gen2 6-24x50.
Let me get the Battleship Arken out of the way, why it is built so good =heavy is beyond me;plus how they could sell at the price point they do is beyound me,it is what it is,battleship scope,it does not focus down to 25 yards, though the turret has 25 yards on it....34 mm Tube,em maybe why it weighs 36.6 oz.....good scope for stationary sports.
The AZTEC Emerald 5.5-25x50,no problem with 25yds focus,I like the reticle, focus easy ,good light, sharpe enough, but not great.25.4 oz....this scope is in a tough price range,I think it is worth it if you get a good deal.
I like Sightron scopes; This one is Stac 4-20x 50 ,no problem 25 yd,focus, good glass ,Simple Reticile on this one, this and the Aztec to Me are close, Sightron may have a little better glass.
I am looking at 30 yards with this scope trying to read small print, like I said Arken could not focus at this range, the other two could.
I did not spend more than say 10minutes doing this "test"...Sightron and Aztec are close enough to each other were the choice of the reticile could be the difference.
The battleship Arken is unquie,if you were using it as a hunting scope and were a stong,in shape linebacker person it is a great scope for not worry about banging it around, other than that put it on a bench and enjoy it , the other two scope are good cheaper middle class scope....under say$200 used.
If any of you own any of these scope I would love to hear what you have to say about them.
I going to compare them to the Hawke Airmax scope I have ......

HW/Weihrauch  Velocities from Hw50 Plinkers kit?

I just sold my R8 to get a blue 75 anniversary 177 Hw50 to put in an ARH plinkers kit and peep sights on. I'm probably not getting the blue 50 because of the stupid price. I'm still intrested in setting up the same kit and sights on another Hw50. I'm looking for a lightly used one if anyone's got one.

Anyhow I'm curious what kind of velocities you guys are getting from the plinkers kit in your Hw50. I'm hoping for 9-10fpe. I think I've heard as low as 5fpe which is too low for me and why I'm asking.
Thanks
Ron

This is why I do this!

Last night is why I got into air rifles! I spent the afternoon shooting with my youngest son and after I’d got dark we went hunting! He missed a shot on a rabbit, but learned some valuable lessons. But the best part was just sitting outside in nature spending time together. We even spotted a buck on our property, the first one I have seen in over 2 years.

Shot count 40 from 250b-103b
OAL 42.3" with Sumo. 35" w/out.

I just recently got this gun and I love it, sadly it's just too long for me given that I am shooting iguanas in public. I've taken 2 dozen oguanas with it today and it is an absolute tack driver. Took me 11 shots to sight it in at 30yards, verify which mod I wanted to put on it between the sumo and the IA1350 and then verified my figures on streak pro out to 100yds with took 1 shot. I've never had a gun especially an FX take this little time to set up and dial in. I'm selling to fund a more compact .30 for myself.

It has a few tiny cosmetic scuffs and 1 minor scratch, see pictures.

Pictures of U2 are only to show the arken.

$1550 shipped and insured.
