Effect of changing barrel (.25 to .22 cal)

Hi. I have an Edgun Leshiy Classic (the single shot older model... not the semi auto Leshiy 2). For those who don't know, the Leshiy classic functions like most regulated PC's. It has a regulator and a hammer spring (both adjustable). The barrel of this pcp can be easily (like in 2 minutes) exchanged. I currently have the .25 cal barrel installed and the hammer spring adjusted so that at this regulator preasure (130 bar) I'm right below the plateau with a 26 grain pellet and it is shooting at 735 fps. So my question is the following: if I simply exchange barrels (install the .22 cal instead of .25 cal), same length (250mm), and don't change anything else (don't touch the regulator or hammer spring), and if I use a pellet of the same weight (26 grain .22 cal instead it 26 grain .25 cal pellet), what would the expected velocity be? Higher, lower or the same compared to the .25 cal ? If it is higher or lower, then what would I need to do with the hammer spring to stay in the 'sweet spot' just below the plateau ( to get max speed with minimal air wasting)? Also would the expected 'sweet spot' of the .22 cal be faster or slower than that of the .25 cal?
Any info that would help me understand the effect of changing barrel calibre while keeping all other variables fixed would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Living Proof - a double blind study - this should be a required read esp for newbies

My foster parents had unusual names: Mother's Name was Sheridan, My Fathers Name was Benjamin.
At age 8 they put me to work, pumping, loading and plinking my way through my childhood boredom.
I spent nearly "nothing" on anything airgun related. Neither, my Sheridan nor my Benjamin had anything but simple iron sights. I was lethal to 35 yards, dead, and i mean, dead on and freestanding at that. Fast forward
I joined the Navy at age 17 and passed my airguns on to my little brothers who didn't share my enthusiasm.
I never saw or even thought about an airgun again until i was 32ish, when a rat problem occurred in my Hawaii home after they burned the cane fields.
Thus I went looking for a new airgun. The internet had just gotten wings and low and behold I found the Beeman website, still in CA! Of course i had to have the biggest and baddest and most powerful airgun they offered so I bought myself an .22 R1 and it was a beast to cock, even with my Specwar trained arms.
I eliminated all the rats and then moved on to eliminating several packs of feral dogs that roamed at night and to some degree terrorized the neighborhood... long before thermal or any night vision was around you could still land a solid kill shot from a perch if you knew when and where the dogs pathways were.
Not long afterwards, the feral dog problem had been eliminated also. I left Hawaii in 1985 and sold my Beeman R1 hesitantly before i left. Big mistake.
25 years later, boredom that i felt at age 8 started to settle in again and like before i started looking for a new toy..... oh hell! The internet was awash with this new fangle thing called a PCP! Scopes had gone bonkers with this and that features including thermal and N.V. There were other accessories like, bipods, tripods, and the choice of pellets and calibers was just nuts.... not to mention the FPE had skyrocketed !!!
That was 3-4 years ago - no more springers for me - I wanted the fastest and most powerful and the most accurate (this means trouble awaits).
My first PCP was an HW110...Way too cool even with just a red dot!
Then it was a pistol, an HW44 DAMN! AWESOME....
Wanted more power so I bought one of those Air force Carbine single shot things shooting .25 DAMN!
The hole opened and i fell in.... and the internet made the hole bigger and bigger everyday. That's when i found Airgun Warriors and other Websites that had other Unicorns to mingle with! And, they were happy to share their same madness for airguns with me.
Each PCP i bought lead to the next PCP, and the next scope, all with promises of greater power and greater accuracy...
little did i know, that thousands of dollars later a simple springer, in a devotee's hands was every bit as accurate (to a debate-able point).
I've spent thousands in the last two years, buying the latest and the best and in a nut shell here is what I've learned after attending a few field target events.
It's the shooter, a well trained shooter, who practices, frequently and does lots of standing and kneeling shots, that truly hits the bullseye.
I'll save you all some time and money. Pick just one gun, any gun you like, with a good scope that ranges parallax down to 10 yards. and shoot and shoot and shoot. Forget about spending a lot of money on the latest and greatest gizmo... just shoot. Because over the course of the last three days, my $2800.00 gun with it's $1800.00 scope got their pricey asses kicked because of a simple fact.... it's the shooter! so beware of the guy who owns one gun and knows it well!

And for goodness sakes, attend some Field Target and Bench rest events; get out and meet some of the finest friendliest and most helpful people ever. CHAMPIONS - ALL OF THEM!
I just returned from the Cajun Classic in Baton Rouge and had the time of my life coming in DEAD LAST - actually i feel like i came in first place because of the people i met!

See ya out there.

I now return you to the classifieds on this forum and the death scroll from which we can never end..... HA!

This is what I wanted in a scope

Light weight , Fast sighting, Wanted more power but 12 is doing OK, FFP I really like the FFP scopes .
So I got a Athlon Helos Gen 2 BTR 2x12-42 FFP scope, I got it mounted on my Huben 22 and I have made some pretty fast shots with it my longest was at 60 yards on a sparrow sitting on a power line , I really like the reticle its bad ass in my book, Its like a T and a circle with a dot in it, The dot lines up fast and just pull the trigger,
I wished it was a 2x16 , I am looking to place the same or another scope on my Prophet PP 2 I like it that much. The glass is super nice but the reticle steel's the show,

TX200 hunter carbine

Hello, I bought an older TX200 carbine years ago from a friend at a good price and It has a funny non factory looking muzzle insert that unscrews.
I’ve noticed that without the insert the rifle is much louder, my question is do TX200 HC come with a muzzle device that unscrew from inside the barrel (male) threads.

I did find this muzzle insert on line but its only available in the UK.

Name what you consider an underrated pellet -

My choice is the Crosman 14.3 field hunting pellet. Although I've never hunted a field, have hunted in a field.
But seriously, these pellets really shoot well in all of my .22 caliber ag's.
I was testing some H&N Barracuda 18 grainers. They were doing pretty well out to around 35 yards, so moved on to my 45 yard target, shotgon pattern, some didn't even hit the shoot n see target. Switched over to the Crosman points, first shot nailed the red center dot that's not much bigger than the pellet. But I never see them mentioned here, it's always JSB this or that. Don't get me wrong, I shoot JSB & the AA version in my .177 ag's, but I can't find an expensive pellet that shoots any better in my .22 bottle builds. Not bitchin', in fact, I consider it a fortunate situation.

So, my AGN brethren, what are your thoughts on an underrated pellet?

Bench stuff that works well at reasonable cost.

This is stuff that has impressive build quality, reasonable cost and has helped my shooting from the bench…

Clamp Saddle Tripod Mount for Shooting,ARCA/RRS Quick Release Plate Hunting Rest Enchance Your Accuracy, Hunting Gear Clamp for Tripod Ball Head Mount,Hunting Saddle,Tripod Rest https://a.co/d/d3yyCzL

Monopod Support Tripod Base-INNOREL PW50, Flexible and Tabletop Tripod for DSLR Camera,Video, and Cell Phone Mount,Including Ball Head,1/4 and 3/8 Screw Adapter and Two Adjusting Tools https://a.co/d/6tiyKG0

US $14.73 19% Off | Mini camera clamp qr clamp 360 degree spin panoramic shooting clamp dslr quick release mount adapter for arca swiss point camera

US $52.80 45% Off | High Precise Manual Lift Z-axis Scissor Manual Lab Jack Elevator Optical Sliding Lift lifting platform Linear Stage 120x80x122mm

The Innorel tripod is all aluminum and has built in ball head. Get the PW50 - the more expensive PW70 is taller. Add the 360 degree Arca Clamp, and you have an all alloy arca setup that can swivel and tilt with locking for both.

The Rifle Clamp is all aluminum, comes with arca plate on bottom, has all high quality rubber inside and opens wide enough to easily accommodate any bottle you have. Quality will blow you mind for $70. Its nicer than the clamp on Cadwell Precision Shooting Turret for example (I also own that - its good too)

The precision lift table I found on AliExpress. It is mind blowing quality. Shipping is $20 something (because its heavy for its small size due to high quality build) bringing the cost to around $80 delivered. Super smooth precision adjustment. I put a sorbothane mat (dashboard sunglass holder mat) on it and you should see how steady through a 45x Sightron scope. Works FANTASTIC under RTI Prophet stock!

This kind of stuff helps your shooting more than buying another rifle…

Thought I’d share as it takes time and effort and money to find these types of things .

Yes, its all made in China. No, its not junk just because its made there - I demand quality and this stuff is all high precision or I would not recommend.

Enjoy,

Ed

How do I calculate how much air is in a plenum?

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate how much volume of air is inside a plenum.
Example Fx Panthera 700 has a "Magnum XL Plenum (156cc)". I believe the air shotgun looking rounds for the AEA Defender holds 3.7cc of air.

So how do I calculate how much air is inside? I need to know the psi/bar right? I don't know the pressure inside the Panthera but I do know the air pressure in the AEA Defender should be 300bar or around 4350psi.

I know 1 bar = standard atmospheric pressure. So if you were standing inside a large tank at 1 bar you would notice no difference from standing outside.

So do you take the 300bar x 3.7cc = 1110, is this air volume in cc? So would this be 1110cm³ of air? CC is cubic centimeter afaik.
So this little thing can basically hold 1 square yard/meter of air but the size means it's compressed to 300bar?
Screenshot 2023-04-03 004457.jpg

What air pressure do airguns normally shoot at? From what I know it's usually around 100-125 bar (1450-1812 psi). I'm wondering how much air normally expelled. What about break barrels, is there a way to calculate how much air is expelled? Could you tie a balloon to the end of the gun, fire it and hold it shut as fast as possible to see how much air is expelled?

Where do you live and do you like it there?

I live in Great Falls, MT. It's winter for 6 months and windy all the time. Like really windy. I am ready for a move. My wife says she likes Michagan mainly because of the kind of properties she is finding for $300-400k. I am willong to spend up to $500k but I don't want wind, I don't want 6 months of winter, and I don't want venomous snakes or gators. We have a lot of rattlesnakes in central Montana. I lost my dog to one in my backyard 2 years ago.

Problem with Hw98

Got a HW98 .22 off a member here at a good deal. Shot it and discovered it was shooting at 12FPE. I also noticed it was shooting between 520-648 fps at extremes but mostly around 595-630 with Crosman 14.3 grain HPs.So I thought it had a bad seal and 12 fpe spring?
I just installed a Vortek PG4 in a .20 cal HW95 so I took the factory seal and spring from it and dropped it in the 98.
Well same old problem I’m still at 12-13 FPE? I kinda don’t understand where to look now. The tube looks good the piston good, seal in good shape and the spring was doing 16fpe in the HW95 .20 cal? Any ideas how to up the FPE?
And the gun is and has been really accurate at 25 and 35 yards the entire time.

.058 MOA at 100 All Day Long…..

This is just another comparison of group vs reality like my other thread. The only real difference is that this one is at 100y.

35 4 shot groups at 100y.
140 shots Average MOA .477
Smallest group .058 MOA
Wind started out around 4-6 but by the end of the 3rd row it was gusting up to 13. Not the best day to test. Had 1 flyer.

Once again, the smallest group is about 10x smaller than the average.

Here’s the a paper about the 4 shot groups again if you didn’t read it before.

FX Impact M3 Shotgun Concept Airgun: The Science of Airgun Shotguns

Watch:

Get the Girandoni air rifle t-shirt here: https://adventuresafield.com/store/
Saber Tactical Fishing Kit: https://utahairguns.com/saber-tactical-fx-impact-fishing-kit/

Ready to geek out on airgun shotguns? New video just went live on the UpNorth Airgunner YouTube Channel! I'm not going to lie, in this episode of UpNorth Airgunner I went full Breaking Bad Heisenberg mad scientist with the FX Impact / Saber Tactical Hunting Kit to test it as a shotgun. I have been geeking out on airgun shotguns for two years now and it seems like every Spring Turkey season it gets deeper and deeper. To be clear, there are much better options out there for Turkey hunting and this is only a test to show the science behind airgun shotguns and the effectiveness of Tungsten Super Shot. But WOW! did this test really open my eyes to the "magic" behind TSS for Turkey hunting.

Turkey hunting is something that is VERY American. What also is VERY American is the story of Lewis and Clark and their journey of discovery across North America. As many of you know, an airgun was the tool they chose to gain safe passage across these lands and along the way bedazzled Native American Tribes with their Girandoni air rifle (The Great Wind). Their notes and memoirs are filled with tales of Turkey hunting and foraging that provided for their amazing journey. In this video I take the deep dive into Tungsten Super Shot and how it has breathed new life into small gauge shotguns like the .410 to become one of the hottest trends in Turkey hunting.

Well using that same science, the FX Impact M3 shotgun concept gun and any other airgun shotgun can benefit from the physics and ballistic benefits TSS provides. So buckle up airheads... This is gonna get really nerdy demonstrating how the FX Impact can be a viable Turkey hunting shotgun!

Partners

Hi folks. I've noticed a disturbing trend in the last few years. A confrontational attitude held by customers towards enterprise. This seems to be present with some customers of airgun companies, manufacturers and retailers. A confrontational attitude is destructive amongst partners. We are partners with the airgun industry whether one likes it or not. Industry cannot survive without customers. It would be difficult to be an air gunner without airguns, et al.
The good folks who manufacture, distribute, retail and service airgun stuff are not out to sabotage thier customers. Sure things go wrong, always have. These folks are our brothers and sisters in this wonderful activity. Mutual respect and appreciation is the way forward my friends. Everyone will benefit. When things need repair, it may be a good time to practice patience.

Who deserves a "shout out"? Someone that helped you when you really needed it

I was thinking about it, and Adam Migel came to my rescue last year at RMAC 2022. He gave me free use of his metric allen set that he had in his gun case right after my barrel-band popped during the speed competition...even though we were technically on the same Squad and competing against each other, he gave me the "tool" I needed to at least fumble my way through the last few stages.

Additionally, Todd Hatfield lent my son his Impact M3 with pump action (Which was the one I believe that Alex went on to win the Speed Challenge with) to hone his skills during the precision shooting challenge.
