Beeman P1... up to snuff?

Early P1 from the Santa Rosa era in .20
Using a jsb 13.43 I cronied it at an average of 320fps. With a spread between 329 and 309fps. On line specs say up to 500fps.
The pistol has been in deep storage for decades!
Will not bust a beer bottle at 10 feet.
Attached is what happens when shot at said beer bottle.
Shot cycle is smooth and accuracy is spot on.
I did put some Tune-in-a-tube on the spring.
Keep shooting it and hope to 'wake' it up?
Put a couple drops of silicone oil to the piston seal?
Or is this completely normal?

B3 air rifle wrong spring?!

I have recently worked on 3 B3 air rifles and was starting to feel pretty cocky (pun intended) about my understanding of these warhorses of the airgun world.
But the one I recently snagged for $20 as a "parts" gun (because it was missing parts) surprised me...
As it came, when I stripped the action, before removing the infernals, I tried to cock the "bare metal" (no trigger group installed), and it seemed to be totally seized. However, it came apart with no issues (I didn't notice that the spring was too long!), and when I cleaned and deburred nothing interesting showed up.
When I put it all together, I should have noticed that the free length of the spring was a little long. When I tried to test cock it it felt seized up... I really leaned on it and discovered that it was just extremely stiff - Impossible to cock. Took it apart and noted that the free length was 2-3/4". By my ballpark estimate that's roughly 100 lbs of preload! That works out (to my estimatin') to about 50 lbs just to get the underlever started!

My suspicion is that the previous owner had replaced the spring and got in over his head, and passed his fun project along to me.
Easily fixed by trimming a few coils, but gave me fits with it being so stiff that it felt totally seized up! I'll get back to it when a few days have passed and I've forgotten what a PITA it was...

Live and learn!

How do you like my crown now?

It’s an art not a science. Some turn out good, some not so good. You get what you get. How do you like this one?
Either way, the aluminum bottle was too shiny and reflective, and needed some concealment. And the for end was getting scratched up. So i figured I would give it a go.

FX Crown Side-lever jamming issue

My side-lever on my fx crown mk2 in .25 seems to get stuck in place only when the magazine is in it, but I can barely tap on the trigger and it un-jams the side-lever and im able to load another slug into the chamber, I took the magazine out and open and closed the side-lever like 30+ times and it didn't get stuck on me once, it only happens when I have a magazine in place. Any thoughts?

Optics  SOLD Westhunter 4-16x44 30mm scope MINT

This one is a pretty clear one. I've had 4 of these scopes, and this one is clear all the way up to 16. Very good glass and turrets are crisp. Just selling because the reticle is a bit thin and my eyes aren't getting younger. That, and I'm downsizing all my guns and scope to shed weight.

Comes with dovetail mounts, sunshade, and the torch/flashlight mount ring.
Damn good scope, just don't have a rig it fits that doesn't already have a scope.

Wrong mag/ammo resulted in bad first shot but shocking results!

I was in the living room drinking some water and saw this young male yearling decided to chillax on my oak tree. The squirrel fever kicked in the high gear! Grabbed my DreamTac Compact that I lowered the scope and zeroed yesterday and my mag of 177 hades(so I thought). Wife and kids are out so I cracked open the glass patio door and put the center dot just above its head and squeezed the trigger. Heard a solid thud but to my surprise I missed the brain, thankfully it was holding its head at the trunk of the tree. Feeling horrible I quickly put 2 more shots into it to end its suffering. A little perplexed on how I missed so bad, even though these 14 yard shots aren't easy but still.

Went to retrieved the body and found all 3 pellets under the pelt and realized my error. Instead of the mag with 10.3g Hades I used the mag with 13g monster, they fly much slower on the same setting in the mid 500fps so the POI was much lower. Then where I found the pellets shocked me! First pellet remained in the head but it got absolutely crushed, talk about expansion! WOW! Second and third pellets were found in the groin and base of the tail, the entry were at the shoulder and right below the ear! They cut through the entire body length!!! And the leg and shoulder were absolutely shattered!!! HOLY COW!!! At such low speed I could not believe just how much penetration and damage the 13 grain pellets at 550 fps have! That just blew my mind!!!
Red circles are entries and yellow circle is where I found one of the pellets.

Here is the squirrel with my DTC for size reference, it was young but very good size and healthy.

The left is the first pellet in the head and 2 that went through the length of the body.

And of course I forgot to press the record button again thanks to squirrel fever!😅

M3 - friction in the hammer/valve system

On my .22 M3 I have what seems like intermittent friction in the hammer or valve system. What happens is that I can dial in a speed, then when I use it days later, speed may be 70-100fps lower. If I shoot it long enough (LOOONG like 50+ shots) the speed might return to where it was. Maybe on a good day the speed starts out close to where it should be set (normal).

The regulator is rock solid always returning to the set point (digital gauge).

Breech o-ring has been replaced and I don't feel any air puffs in that area (passes toilet tissue test).

Hammer friction seems least likely since that is a pretty simple part of the system.

I'm very familiar with the Impact cold-start behavior, but I don't think I've ever seen it exceed ~10 shots on this gun in it's earlier days. My first thought is that this has to be caused by the same PUR90 valve rod o-ring (E103) that is responsible for Impact cold start behavior, and mine has deteriorated and/or needs relubing.

One more factor with this gun is that over the winter, I experienced what seemed like 'valve leak'. After a shot, I heard air escaping through the transfer port and down the barrel. Dry firing about 5 times got it to stop and it has not happened again since. Is there any valve failure mode that could result in friction/resistance to opening and be contributing to my inconsistency?

At minimum, I'm looking at replacing the E103/104/105 o-rings, but would like to know if I should be considering replacing the valve as well. Also, is there any better lube than SuperLube Silicone Grease for the valve rod and that pesky E103 oring? Anything else I'm missing?

Notos strikes again

Windy day today, got home early not even expecting to shoot. However, I looked out back and a bunch of starlings were harassing a baby Robin on the ground and the adult Robin's were flipping their chit.

I decided to intervene. I shot the younger starling first as it was a sitting duck. The flock flew up to the wires and then came down and hovered over the baby screeching. Never seem them hover like that. The mother came down and got a dose of 21 grain lead.

Oh, I finally chronied the 21 cuda pellets, and they're averaging 666 fps which is just hilarious. Over 20 fpe too boot!

Happy pesting gents!

PCP Rifle  NLA Trading Edgun Leshiy 2 Custom Setup

So I’ll be getting this L2…kind of curious what people would trade for it. .30 caliber

I’m not too keen on trading it…unless I get the “perfect” offer. If you’re going to ask me what the “perfect” offer is…I really don’t know myself. Just offer and we’ll see.

.30 caliber leshiy 2 with a 450mm barrel. It will come with huma reg with the larger plenum, 450mm Alfa precision barrel, Huma aesir kit with the long pic M-LOK guard, REG TESTER, and Huma mod 40 moderator.

I am debating whether to keep, and these trade offers will let me know which I should do.

Shot count on my wicked Atomic XR…

Twenty nine tins through her without any troubles from out the box… Hope this answers @SHOMER, shot count question🤓. I get 25 quality, full power shots out of mine for pesting. While plinking? Three full mags for 33 shots. Don’t use it at the lower power setting currently.

IMG_0490.jpeg

How much better has the shot count and valving gotten from the Impact MK2 to the FX Panthera? Worth it?

How much better has the shot count and valving gotten from the Impact MK2 to the FX Panthera? Is it worth the upgrade? For example if I slap on a 580cc bottle on both my MK2 and a Panthera…how much more efficient is the Panthera? Operating reg pressure? Shot count? Is it worth the upgrade?

Aside from the obvious larger plenum on the Panthera, is there more to it than just a larger plenum? I mean theoretically speaking, if I slapped on the same plenum system onto my MK2…how much more efficient would the Panthera be?

I’d like to have quantitative data if possible. Any FX reps…I’d like for you to chime in if possible. Thank you all.

Hunting versus Killing

How do you make folks understand that hunting is not about killing something? Hunting is to immerse yourself in the experience. The simple act of being in the in the wilderness is to become one with and respect the forest, fauna and animals that reside there. I've been on many hunts where I never fired a shot, but returned home renewed for the experience itself. A person who takes pleasure in taking a life, simply for the act of the killing has a rotten soul. I hope this message resonates with you all and helps you become a mature hunter.

I leave you now with this quote from George Bird Evans:

"The child tells what he got for Christmas, the mature man tells how he spent the day; the immature hunter tells how many birds he shot, the mature gunner tells of the experience."
