Attention MTM wind flag users!

I’m not a big spender when it comes to wind flags, so when a member linked me to the mtm wind flags from amazon last year I was all over those-

So in practicing my target shooting how I set them up was to insert them into a one gallon bucket filled with sand and I’d poke the rod the flag came with thru the lid.

The Sanford and Son wind flag set up, lol-

At the recent EBR AGN member ZX10WALL (Derek Wall) had shown me his mtm flags set up on a tripod and ball head. Loved the idea and I wanted to somehow thread this part of the flags holder-

IMG_5927.png

onto the 1/4-20 threads of the ball head but was unsure of how to do it.
So I reached out to member CFS916 to recreate the plastic wire holder out of machined aluminum with 1/4-20 threads. Oh boy, just like his machined cocking handles he’s made for my fx guns
IMG_5857.jpeg

He’s done an awesome job. The wire can be pulled out of the factory piece, inserted into the machined piece and set with a locking grub screw.
IMG_5926.png

Then, threaded onto the 1/4-20 male thread on the ball head so you can now use these MTM flags on a tripod
IMG_5922.jpeg

These tripods I’ll link from amazon, along with the ball heads. They both come in a two pack, and doing the math with the mtm wind flags now going for $17 on amazon, you could set yourself up with a pair of wind flags you will be proud to own and that will add to the target shooting enjoyment for not a lot of money.

If you’re looking to set yourself up with flags on the cheap but boast quality, give CFS916 a pm for the adapters and here are the links to the tripod and ball head set ups below- thanks a bunch, CFS916!!!

FX  Mk2 impact

How low of pressure can I dry fire my impact. I installed the 720 PP and power block and the Oring that is sealing the poppet rod is strangling the rod being new. I've lost 100 fps from my original tune. I greased the rod with silicone grease. I'm figuring if I dry fire it a couple hundred times it will break in sort of like a new engine takes a few thousand miles to break in.

  • Question
Benjamin  Benjamin Marauder .22 semi auto, forward assist stuck open.

Benjamin Marauder .22 semi auto, forward assist is stuck open. Fresh out of the box, I shot about eight clips; down to about 1200 psi. I filled it to about 2700 psi, and loaded a fresh clip. I got one shot out, then a blank. I pulled the trigger once more thinking it was a misfire, nothing again. I took the clip out and it came out with the o ring pinched in it. Now the bolt is stuck open and won't close. Any suggestions before I start taking it apart?

Went to our local brick & mortar airgun retailer in Colville WA today (pics)

And wouldn't you? originally opened just before covid ( as a Cafe and airgun store) and I dont go to town much so ..... . A neighbor who I had let try the AF Escape with shogun and he still thought airsoft but "did that just put a hole in that frying pan?" so I took off the shogun he tried again said nice reduction and almost fled. Showed back up last week and said "I figure out airguns, no powder" and we talked and talked. He asked if I knew of Jennen's Backwoods in Colville. I had but thought they had closed. Had to go there today and drove by the sign said OPEN, so.
Ya buddy! Walked in and spoke with Scott. Told him I wasn't buying a thing just looking for a friend. At one point even the wife said "I have the bank card", haha. Darn airgunners.
Got to handle a few newer rigs I had never seen, the Hammer, MUCH nicer in person than any picture I have seen, well balanced. pretty nice actually if that's your thing. They may (?) have land they run hunts on so lot's of big bore & ammo and.... . Believe -if you are buying- they have an indoor range 20-30 yards? (didn't go in). Hadn't seen the Avenger either and we had spoken of trigger so he said "hey try this one" and we stepped outside just to dryfire it a couple of times. Set up as a nice single stage 5-6oz and extremely crisp. And again better balance than I had expected, not a bad rig at all in person. They had the sig look alike Co2 (ugh) not my thing, but, Scott was smart enough to put on in my hand. Hum. I passed it to the wife, hum, "feels right". Did not know you could drop the clip and bleed the pistol yet save the Co2 cart and thus the pistols seals! I informed the wife I will not be needing one of these for Christmas. (clears throat)
We've both be into pre-charged since the late 80's fired most every older airgun around and (thought) I didn't think too much of some of the newer offerings, but the Avenger and that Co2 sig have me rethinking things. And airgun friends let me tell you, either take money or DO NOT walk into one, esp. as well stocked a Jennen's.
Would this help you decide your next purchase? "Take it our front".

And just a bunch of pictures so thumbnails I believe one can click on for full size.

DFL, JSB, Buckrail, Javlin slug, BKL rings, RAW, AF, FX, Benjamin, compressor was on commission, they sell SCBA and fill tanks, on and on. And great prices. Darn. I will back there next week. Dont need anything but Scott said yes-tried it- the buckrail will hold up on your AF .25 and I only need hearing protection as the backyard goes for miles, then I could sell the Shogun and but a ........ "see honey".
Believe they are open Tuesday to Saturday (might be wrong), no web site but you could call 509-685-7284 if you are or might be in the area. I have nothing to do with the place but DO recommend it.

Squirrels at dusk

Got this guy going for his hidey hole in my tree just before sunset. Anyone else do their hunting/pesting around that time? I've noticed this time of year they tend to take longer to get active in the mornings and I have better luck when they're on their way back home for the night.
20231030_181643.jpg

I took him with a JTS dead center 25.4 going 800 fps. Took a pass thru just ahead of the shoulders and through the neck. Not bad since the light was fading fast and I was shooting at him into the light.

Seeking Gun Suggestions and info

Hi Airgun Nation community. I've been lurking here a while and gleaning lots of useful info, but have come to a point that I could use some pointed feedback.

My situation is that I live in a forest area on a couple acres with neighbors on similar sized lots. There are coyotes in the area becoming more aggressive. A few weeks ago 4 of my chickens become a coyote's lunch. Several neighbors cats have "disappeared". My dogs have had to square off against them a few times over the last couple years, and I have two small children that like to play outside. So...the coyotes have to go.

I live in California. There are lots of "rules" here about hunting and firearms in general. I was able to speak to the CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife whose local warden gave me permission to take the coyotes using methods ouside laws pertaining specifally to hunting, under certain conditions, and provided I follow some specific guidelines (my question below are with respect to these guidlines). Also, I am an experienced hunter, and have several cartridge rifles, but am not interested in shooting off a bullet in this neighborhood. It is rural but there are houses around and ricochets are a thing. So exploring modern airguns as a solution.

Separately, I also have rats and voles here that need constant population control. For those who don't know, a vole is like a gopher, but they tend to pop their heads up out of the holes a lot more often. I have a crossman springer pistol that's okay for this work, but less than ideal (slow, inaccurate).

I'm looking for a doubel duty gun: opportunistic coyote dispatching with frequest rodent control inbetween. In all liklihood the shot on the coyote would be made from around 30 yards. Rodents more like 10-20 yards.

So, seeking education and suggestions for a PCP rifle with the following characteristics:

  • Mag fed repeater (not single shot)
  • $1000-$1500 (or less of course).
    • Any suggestions for sites with used guns at descent prices?
  • This is the big one: Variable energy, ranging from high enough to drop a coyote to low enough to not go all the way through 3/4" plywood when ratting (with the right ammo). So a regulated gun, or a gun with very wide ranging hammer spring adjustments. Honestly, I imagine it will probably will need both features working together.
  • Ammo
    • For coyotes: Any suggestions for lead-free slugs/hybrids? Do they even exist? (I am aware of tin pellets).
    • For rodents: Any suggestions or general info around 'soft' lead pellets that deform on impact easily (reducing ricochet range) and will not blast right through the back of my barn's plywood walls at the gun's lower power tuning?
  • Caliber
    • Any well placed pellet caliber will dispatch a rat or vole. So, this is specifically around coyotes. I have read a lot of good advise around here discussing quickly killing coyotes with pellets, and fp/e suggestions at various ranges and calibers. I have also read a lot of virtue signalling condemnation of shooting a coyote with anything less than a 5.56 AR - please refrain from those comments here. These coyotes are a threat and will be treated as such. They will not be hunted or baited, but when they come onto this property they will be shot.
      • When suggesting guns, with respect to their power ranges, please consider if a .22 slug would be viable with headshot or if a .25 or .30+ is needed?
  • Handling
    • Will be shot off hand, and must handle accordingly. Ideally <7 lbs, must be <9 lbs. Compact, <30" (w/o moderator)
  • Reliable and easy maintenance (standard size screws, easy to source replacement grommets/gaskets, etc)
Reading and watching some vids, something like a compact Brocock Ghost in .22 or .25 would be ideal, except for its $2k+ asking price. Recent FX guns with their barrles that can shoot slugs and pellets may be a good fit, but have read they designed for bench shooting (somewhat fragile?) and have uncomfortably frequent quality issues out of the box. Taipan look to be of exceptional engineering and quality standards, but are they unregulated? How valiable is power control with their hammerspring adjustments?

Or am i chasing a unicorn and there is no single gun this versatile?

  • Poll
FX  What’s better…an Air Venturi Avenger/JTS Airacuda Max or a FX Bobcat MK2? Poll.

Technology has come a long way I agree. We can buy regulated PCPs with relatively good quality for a very reasonable price. But do these new PCPs compare with the older generation regulated FX rifles? Let me know what you think. Would you rather buy a FX Bobcat MK2 in relatively good condition, or a new Avenger/Airacuda Max given that they are the same price?

Chinese Chronograph vs Labradar

I bought a cheap one to adjust the hammer spring instead of setting up the labradar every time. And I can shoot into a box on my back porch. It's just more convenient to have something like the Chinese thing. I tested it against the Labradar to see if its worth the time. I think it does an adajit job. I know others don't have to money to invest in high dollar chronographs, I don't. I just have access to a Labradar, I don't own it.

Are you going to get exactly what the speeds are? No.
Can you tune your rifle using one? Yes

I think it is very useful and saves me time.

I don't shoot groups with mine on, I'm just looking at the numbers. Others use a tripod and don't attach it to the rifle.

It cost less when I bought it, you can find them for 15 bucks. This is just a link to the one I own.

PCP Pistol  SOLD SOLD Huben GK1 22 SOLD

I bought the GK1 22 from Kelly at Kraz Cool last month and have shot less than a 100 pellets through it. Just don't have time for it so it needs a new home. I had Kelly put the new style loading gate on it, I will ship the factory moderator adapter as soon as it comes in. This thing shoots great fantastic trigger and lite weight, I shot a few sparrows with it quite accurate and have the fps turned down to 450fps with JSB 15.89. ASking $1295 shipped and insured...Thanks Terry

N/A  What Makes a PCP Airgun Easy to Work On?

I’d like to preface this by saying that my question will garner subjective answers, so let’s be civil in this conversation. Some of us will disagree here.

I recall dialogue with another member on the topic of ease of working on a particular PCP. After thinking about the discourse I started to wonder, “What makes a PCP easy to work on in the minds of others?” So for you tinkerers, smiths, hobbyists, and laymen who’ve been into PCPs for several years what say you? How about members new to PCPs? When answering please disclose a rough timeframe (in years) that you’ve been actively involved in the hobby. By “work on” I mean general maintenance, tuning, and replacing or repairing faulty, worn, or broken parts (without disassembly of the breech block or trigger assembly).

What makes a PCP quieter…?

Here’s a question for the more informed members of this forum…

What makes an air rifle quieter…?

Barrel length, 500mm vs 600mm vs 700mm?
Shrouded barrell? Fully shrouded or no shroud?
Moderator/silencer size, length and or thickness? Empty or baffled?

Is one factor more important that others, or is it best to use a combination of some or all of the above?

Thanks for the knowledgeable info that I’m sure will follow 👍🏻
Pete.
