PCP Rifle  WTS WTS/WTT: 22 Airmaks katran "B"

Listing my katran. I've shot this one or twice and im the second owner. The krait fits me better. Looking to sell for $750 + shipping.
I would trade for something compact like a krait, pathfinder or something similar in 177 or 22. I would add cash if needed for the trade. If you want more pictures let me know. Comes with the red laminate cheek piece, original cheek piece, 2 magazines and fill probe. It is the bottle or "B" version but has the folding stock. The scope is NOT included.

Do you prefer a clean barrel shooter or a dirty barrel shooter?

I figured out recently that my SPA made bullpups, a P35-22 and a Bullshark in 22, really like AEA pellets. A 22 grain for the P35 and a 18.1 (called a 18.3) for the Bullshark. Both have given me a 200 on the 30 yard challenge with these pellets. But they react quite differently from barrel cleaning. The Bullshark had been shooting really well but then gave me a 194 and a 195. I cleaned the barrel and shot two 199s in a row. So when the P35 seemed to be a little off I cleaned it. I fired 10 shots into the practice target then started a "real" target. I dropped 5 points in the first 10 shots and then only 1 on the last 10. So it needed 20 shots to lead in the barrel.

I was shooting the Bullshark this morning in pretty much still air. The scope seemed to be adjusted for a little wind and I was working to dial that out. Then I started this target. I shoot left to right then right to left down the card. Things were going OK until cell 7. I was getting 9s and 10s, not great but normal for me. The first shot on 7 was a 9 but then the second was an 8. I looked at the wind flag and it did not seem to explain it. I moved on to 9. The first shot on the left bull in 9 went a little low and right and is another 8. Then the first shot on the right hand bull went really right and is a 7. So I knew something was off and cleaned the barrel. I used cell 9 to lead in the cleaned barrel and check to see if I "fixed it". Immediately the somewhat wild fliers was gone. I clicked the scope a little but I'm not sure it needed it. I shot the bull on the left in 9 first and then one shot on the bull on the right in 9. Then I shot the left bull on the left in 10 and got a couple 9s before it settled down. I then shot the bull on the right in 10 and I think it is an X.

So my Bullshark seems to get the barrel dirty faster and to really not like being shot dirty. My P35-22 doesn't really like cleaning much and takes longer to settle in after cleaning. I'm not sure which I prefer. I'm lazy enough to like a barrel that doesn't demand cleaning but I don't love it needing 20 pellets to shoot at it's best again. The Bullshark may have needed about the same number of shots to truly settle down but was very close from the first shot on a clean barrel. I guess it doesn't matter much what I want, the guns will do what they do. But just for fun, if you could choose what would you choose?

MENTAL FOCUS TRAINING

A new concept for me to try , but it has been around for a long long time is visualizing the shot. A sort of mental rehearsal. A pre shot routine.
You imagine the perfect shot in your mind. From your breathing to the sight picture to the trigger squeeze before actually doing it. I read about this being done by the coaches of other sports like Basketball , Archery, and Golf. It can become routine , so it will be done without trying to think about it. I'm sure the competition shooters do it. I need to train my focus on the breathing the trigger squeeze , and the same hold , or shouldering of the rifle , and as taught to me to use the exact same grip on the forearm each time , and do it all in my mind before I even pick up the Airgun. Especially for the recoil type rifles like Springer , or gas rams.
I like to learn even at 65 it's something about the challenge that keeps me interested. My PCP'S are boat anchors, and much too heavy to carry around , or shoot off hand , so as I use my shooting rest , and develope a refined tune for that certain pellet , or slug eventually boring myself with perfect groups , so I switch up to another weight , and start all over. Bur the springer is a better challenge for me , and I admire Crowski for his shooting of targets that suck , and just how well he does it , and others here that can split playing cards in half. I have been so damn impressed by this. I want to achieve the ability to do such with a recoiling springer. Post some card splitting pic's ok OldVet wants to see.
Happy Shooting. OV.😁

Introducing myself - asking for advice on a new airgun while I'm at it.

I'm 65 and retired, I just did a little research and the PCP guns have me excited. As a kid I pretty much wore out a Crosman 1400 (or was it a 1100?). I used that gun almost daily (when it was not freezing out) for pigeons, starlings, crows and even a large dumpster raccoon. My kids finally killed that old gun, the seals are blown, now it sits in a corner because I'm too attached to it to throw it away.

My son had a break open Benjaman that I never really liked. It was heavy, noisy, and the kick was strange to me, and I just never bonded to that gun. I live in a city and my back yard is hidden so I can safely shoot about 75" towards a 10' tall concrete retaining. Sound is the biggest issue and from what I have read today, many of the new PCPs are pretty quiet. I didn't even know these guns existed when I woke up this AM, now after reading an article about them, I'm excited and really want to get one. As far as a price point, I want a good gun but I don't want to spend large amounts of money on something that makes my groups just a little better. I like guns that are fairly simple, and I also prefer guns that look traditional, not like an AR15 or some weapon used by the space invaders. What I also need is advice on how much to spend, I'm thinking between $500 and $1000. As far as why I'm getting one, I will be killing starlings, maybe an old sick chicken and some rats. I also will enjoy punching holes in paper at about 25 yards. Please let me know your ideas, if all these PCPs look like a black space invader gun, so be it, what's most important to me it that it has a good safety, that it's well made, and that it has reasonably good accuracy. Owe on another point, I live close to the ocean with a dive store not 2 miles from me so I'm pretty sure I can find a used tank and a place to fill it.

Real Avid Master Gun Workstation

Since I have a scope on the way for my son's AR-15... aaaaaaand... I've been wanting one of these..... Arrived today.

Of course I popped the Marauder into it for this photo and this forum. Real Avid makes some neat stuff. Well designed. Not cheap. But not crazy expensive, either.

Marauder-in-Workstation-1.jpg

It should work nicely for maintenance, cleaning, scope mounting / leveling, etc.

Marauder-in-Workstation-2.jpg

All I've done so far is assemble it and put a couple of rifles in it. It feels pretty solid. It can be bolted to the table, but I won't likely do that. It can also be clamped to the table.

At $200, it's not cheap. But I think it's a fair bit nicer, more versatile, and more stable than the cheaper models out there.

I'll update the thread as I use it.

HW/Weihrauch  Wanting to purchase a Weihrauch springer but concerned about droop

Hello everyone,

I’m currently in the market for a Weihrauch springer and have narrowed my interest down to either the HW50S or HW95. Before making a purchase, I’ve come across several discussions online regarding barrel droop with these models. Some owners report noticeable droop, while others state their rifles were perfectly fine right out of the box.

My main questions are:
  1. Production years or model generations: Have certain years or production runs of the HW50S or HW95 been more prone to barrel droop than others?
  2. Preferred solutions: For those who have experienced droop, what’s considered the most reliable remedy — droop-compensating mounts, shimming, or barrel adjustment?
  3. Model comparison: Between the HW50S and HW95, is one generally regarded as being less affected by droop issues?

I’d greatly appreciate any insights from those with first-hand experience. My goal is to make an informed purchase and avoid unnecessary surprises.

Thank you in advance for your time and knowledge.

Results  Benchrest is perplexing

So to give background I have been competing in WFTF and HFT for about 20yrs now. Have a lot of experience off my knee and bucket and sticks. The long range game intrigues me(100yards with pellets) Enter Long range FT. I shoot FT with a TM1000 .177cal so I purchased an HM1000X .22cal for 100yard FT. I quickly found out 30cal would be better so with the help of a very generous individual I converted to 30cal. Here is where I start scratching my head. I figured I'd shoot off of a bench to test for the best pellets and move to bucket and sticks for FT competition. I set the HM1000x on a front and rear rest and I say to myself this is going to be a piece of cake. I've never had a scope so steady in my life. Well I set my cards out at 100yards and I can't group for crap! It was suggested to go back to 50yards and start over. I've shot a couple times and my 50 yards groups still arent acceptable to me. I shot again today on bucket and sticks both the HM1000x and TM1000. Not much difference in groups compared to off the bench. I'm completely confused, other than I'm NOT a bench rest shooter at this point. This bench rest thing may be some black magic.
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome. I wouldn't mind trying N50 or EBR to save my old back but I dont want to embarrass myself either.

By the way I think the Jts 45 gr shoot better than the AEA 45gr. The 45grain pellets are shooting at 880fps and the 50grAEA at 845fps
Now that I'm looking at these pictures before I post the Bucket and sticks groups are better. WTF

RAW Rapid  Bad day with my RAW

Received a 35cc plenum today for my RAW HM1000X LRT .30. Installed it and it leaks worse than a screen door. Changed the O-ring on the reg 6 times and it’s still leaking. In the process of degassing the action I bent the pellet probe. Tried to straighten it and almost got it back to normal except for the last 1/16” of being fully closed but it was sticking. So I tried to lap it in and SEIZED the internal probe and snapped the head off. To top it off this is the gun I had planned to shoot at PAC in a couple weeks. Arrrrgggghhhhh!

There is nothing for the reg O-ring in the plenum to seat against which I thought was odd. The O-ring bears against the threads in the plenum. I would have thought there should be a machined area for the O-ring to seat against? What am I missing?

Budget close range pesting optic(parallax <=5yds)

Hey AGN,
Looking for a solid budget pesting optic for my dad to use in his backyard, almost everything will be in the 3-15yd range, with the longest shots being maybe 20yds. I was drawn to the bugbuster because it goes down to 3yds which I think would be pretty useful for him around the fruit trees and around the chicken coop.

Its hard to find the minimum parallax for lots of these budget optics, and so far I've found a few like the hawke 2-7, utg bugbuster 3-9, some vectors(2-6x32AO), discovery, and a few other chinese brands I've run into. Just wanted to get what people here would recommend instead of me trying to randomly source info around the internet.

I'm new to all of this, so maybe a 10yd min parallax is still completely usable even at 3-5yds.

Thanks!

Condor SS .22 on some prairie dogs

My favorite shot was the 95 yard head shot where he's looking right at me. I think it's around 3:50. That particular shot was a full 90 degree cross wind. So cool to take an educated guess on the hold off, squeeze that trigger and watch it go just how you wanted.

The farthest was 131 or so yards, and was a spine shot.

There were 33-34 clips that made the cut for public consumption, and some of those are iffy. 😬.
And another 15-20 that I decided didn't need to be shared. So I got closer to 50 pdogs in that little session. Hard to keep count when it's cock and shoot bout as fast as a guy can shoot.

20 MOA reverse cantilever ?

I have my Vector Veyron 4x16 on my Avenger. I like it fine, but its eyebox being where it is, and the scope being as short as it is, makes me climb up on the stock. I see a lot of 20 MOA cantilever mounts out there, but they're all meant to move the scope forward, not backwards. I could shim a 0 MOA cantilever mount, but I'd rather not do that if I can help it. So, does anyone know of a reverse cantilever with 20 MOA?
