Thank you, fellow air gunners

Thank you for reaching out to me.I find myself in a rut. Being a caretaker for so long took some of my joy away.
I just went in my backyard and shot, becoming a hermit.
I post a lot here, but this is an interaction with my keyboard and, of course, you fellow air gunners.

So I will take the advice and get out and meet and shoot with my fellow air gunners,I will climb out of this rut and talk with others instead of myself.
Thank you. I hope 2025 is a great year for everyone here and for peace in the world. (y)

Huben  GK1 “longey”

Another goofy experiment. Added a K1 plenum and Huma reg to the GK1, to make the .22 “longey” GK1 carbine or GK1/K1 hybrid, if you prefer. Awaiting the arrival of the moderator, which will extend 2” beyond the tube. Shooting AVS 22 grain slugs at 925 with ES of 8 at 150bar reg pressure. Waiting on the mod to fully evaluate accuracy.

IMG_0989.jpeg

Will likely remove the CF wrap from the tube for a more consistent look if happy with the end result. Action end fill port is disabled and gauge reads reg pressure.

questioning FFP scopes

I'm questioning the wisdom of a FFP scope in my applications of using the scope for HFT. I have an Athlon Midas tac 6-24x50 model number 213075 with the APRS2 reticle. The glass is very clear and it ranges well. But the reticle is too small at 16x and I lose the markings on the reticle in lower light conditions. I have a nightforce 6-32 FFP and at 16x it's ok but the reticle is on the small side as well.
Anyone have good experience with any of the other reticles for the Midas Tac that are clear at 16X?
I also have a Sightron S-TAC 4-20 SFP that works really well withMOA-2 reticle. Wondering if buying an S-TAC 4-20 FFP set at 16x would give me a better reticle view since its at the higher magnification of the scope range?

Just some random thoughts trying to think through.

i know it says dreamline tactical which i don't have but maybe it fits the lite version- any thoughts on that?

i ask because I'm buying few things from huma and thought i could buy it too since its not that expensive and i am already paying the shipping.

FX  FX Impact M3 1st Reg Deleted 300 bar?

I've got an FX Impact M3 and deleted the first reg with the Huma Air kit and have the high pressure Huma Air second reg.

Things are going great but I have a 700cc 300 bar bottle installed and I've only been filling it to 250 bar.

Would it be ok to fill it to 300 bar? I've read here somewhere that Huma said the reg itself can take it no problem but I'm interested in if the rest of the air rifle can.

The extra shot count would be great if so.

HW/Weihrauch  Springer Fever

I never caught Covid (knock on wood), but I caught springer fever this year and I’m still battling it. Is there a vaccine available?? 😀 This is the result of the affliction….I hope I don’t catch something else in 2025!! First was an HW50s in .22, then it was a. HW95n in .22, followed by an HW30s in .177, and finally an HW30 Classic in .20…..there’s still an HW50s in .20 on order. I’m begging other members for help….is there a cure?? 🤣

EDgun  Leshiy classic power

hi folks,

I'm kind of intrigued by the Leshiy classic, so maybe I'd jump on the occasion if I find a pre-owned one. However it's difficult to find information about the power at which a 250mm or a 350mm can reasonably shoot? I mean: what power can a classic develop when tuned for power, without sacrificing accuracy? I'm not looking for bragging rights nor maximum power, but I generally prefer to shoot my pellets rather fast.

Maria, on the left has been here since late september. Her sister Juanita arrived on Saturday just in time for Maria's birthday!

Maria just turned 15,000 this after noon! I counted up the tins and it's official. It's her quincieñara!

20241230_204707.jpg

Seriously this rifle has been great. Inexpensive, accurate and durable. I loved it so much I bought another one just like it. It's the perfect hunting and plinking rifle and shoots ALMOST as good as my HW's. I've shot Maria more trouble free shots than any springer I own and she's still kicking out 680 fps. Juanita is spitting them out at 740 with 500 shots under her corset.

I wanted you guys with the fancy walnut stocks and high dollar collectible rifles to gaze upon the beauty of my deluxe plastic stock. Behold the fit of my limbsaver slip on pad. The exquisite lines of the molded cheekpiece. The rich bluing and metal finish. These rifles have got it all and I felt the duty to share their splendor with the group.

They are fairly well balanced. Easy to swing, smooth shooting, hard hitting, good trigger, accurate, and less than half the cost of most other rifles. I honestly can't find anything I don't like about them and I've spent 15,000 shots and 3 months looking.

Other  Point of impact changes everyday - cold weather?

Hi guys it’s my 1st post. And yes I read the forum looking for the answer before I posted.. I saw some hints but no solid answer.

Does cold weather change the point of impact? I usually shoot in the winter so I take my Gauntlet 30SL from the heated garage out to the cold barn and shoot out the barn door for a few hours.. all the while I suppose the rifle is getting colder.. if I walk away for awhile and come back my point of impact is off. Each day that i shoot my point of impact is off from the previous session. I tried a barrel band with no improvement. I just upgraded scope and rings with no improvement. I’ve owned this gun for a year and I’ve never had it show repeatable accuracy from one day to the next… I wonder if I have a lemon? Or is this just the nature of pcp’s.? I hope not because I just ordered a Panthera hoping for something better.

When I shoot my AR-15 or my .308 I can put it away for a year and it will still shoot sub 1 MOA from the 1st shot. Is that something I should or shouldn’t expect from a pcp?

Thanks

FX  First time out shooting with my M4 Sniper

Finally was able to shoot my M4 Sniper for the first time today. 100 yards. It was pretty windy so I had a hard time getting the scope dialed in. Went thru about 250 pellets. I shot it how it came from Utah Airguns. Pellets where the JSB Diablo Exact .30 cal, 50,15gr. I still need to get a chronograph and learn how to use it to get the rifle dialed in. Even though it was windy I still had a lot of fun.

Other  Is an unmoderated .25 going to be quieter than a moderated .30?

Sort of a difficult question with many different facets, I know.

To be precise - if this helps - I’m looking at .25 Akela’s and a .30 JTS Brawn w/no specific moderator. I gotta keep this one in particular backyard friendly.

will the .25 Akela always be quieter than a moderated .30 Brawn?

thanks, and Happy New Year!!

2025 Goals for Airgunners

From an airgunning perspective 2024 was for slow for me. However, I did have a spurt or two in the beginning of the 2024-2025 squirrels season. I was also able to get most of what I wanted in order to complete my setups for a few applications. I was able to incorporate my e-bike into my airgun hunting which was an interesting learning experience. Now looking forward, I wish to pay closer attention to my DOPE and synthesize some data so that I have more options for varied hunting scenarios. I also aim to better educate myself in areas dealing with precision like: choosing to work with a ballistic app, learning to dial turrets, and setting up scope tape (I've been ducking that for a while). Ultimately I'd like to improve my shooting and I have had some very generous people to assist me. I may add a couple of elements to a hunting rig to see if they make a difference in my hunting experience. Most importantly, I became better acquainted with airgunners within our community. I'm thankful for having made acquaintances with several folks here and the friendships that ensued from our interactions. Each year I am happy just to see some of y'all continuing to log in and participate. And each year it sucks to see some go.

So what are your goals for 2025? Do you wish to start a dream build? Are you motivated to finally start competing? Who's starting their own shooting club or beginning to host competitions? Finally setting up a shooting lane in your yard, property, basement? What do you aim to do to further your knowledge or enhance you airgun experience?

HW/Weihrauch  Never say I'm done buying airguns.

Two years (and two guns) ago I said, "I'm done buying airguns". In my head I always thought, unless I come across a specific bucket list gun. I figured I'll probably never find one in a condition acceptable to me. So I thought I was done.

Then an older 20cal Hw98 came available for a reasonable price. I always liked the older non threaded 98s with the aluminum butt plates. Being a 20 cal on top of that, I had to buy it. Broke my rule.

A like new 22 Hw95 Field Pro came available for a price I couldn't refuse, so I bought that. After all, I didn't have a 22 cal 95 family gun yet, plus I always liked the sightless weighted barrel on the Field Pros and earlier R9s. That barrel is soft on power so I'm glad I didn't pay full price. That's a story for another day. Still I broke my rule.

I'm not actually sure which of those two rifles came first but I said no more airguns after each one. Well unless I find a ----.

Last week one of my friends here on AGN pointed out my Holy Grail rifle on Fleabay. You know, the one I never thought I'd find. After some twisted reasoning, my friend's best enabling and my wife's blessing I decided to bid on it. I'm happy to say I won the auction last night. It's exactly the rifle I've always wanted since getting into Weihrauchs. The only way it could have been better is if it were a 20 cal. It's 177 which is actually a really great caliber for this particular powerplant so there's no regrets.

I haven't gotten the rifle yet but I'm so excited because I never thought I'd find one. It's not super rare and crazy expensive so it's not most people's Holy Grail but it's mine. It looks too be in good condition. I'm afraid to jinx myself and get my hopes up high.

After this there's only one rifle left that I want. Then I'm truly done buying air rifles. That last rifle on my bucket list was only added this year. It's a nice R8 in 177 or 20. That might be tougher to find than the one I won last night, but it should be cheaper. BTW I have a R1 and other guns to trade for a nice R8 if anyone has one. Then I'm done buying airguns. Really, really I am. I swear.

Happy New Year everyone.
Ron

Skout  Skout EVO debut!!

Got my new EVO the other day. Family obligations prevented immediately gratification with shooting and testing it! Then the weather turned dangerous around here! This past Saturday morning though, things were just right!

I threw the portable bench in the truck and all my other gear and scooted on over to my buddies place where I could stretch the EVO’s legs a bit! Okay-okay, some details; I got this one with the .22 LW 25” option which is a 1:15.7 non-choked bore. Acquired with hopes of shooting some .22 pellets and definitely some slugs.

Started with 25.39 MRD pellets to sight-in. Got on paper and the FX True BC Chrony told me I was shooting these way hot! Okay, same tune with slugs then…. I love Altaros CNC turned slugs. Not only are they amazingly consistent but they have crazy good ballistic coefficients (BCs) as well. What does a good BC translate to: down range retained energy, less drop and wind drift fighting 👊🏻‼️ The 40gr were the first to fly. Out of the box setting has these slinging at 875 fps. That’s actually a great speed for the Altaros as these boat-tail precision bullseye seekers don’t really like the speed other slugs do. Immediately and with a gleam in my eye, I saw these Toros and the LW bore were a match 😁 To 50 yards then. Clover ☘️ leaf 🧐 To 100 then. Bam 💥 1/2” 5-shot group. Now we’re cooking with gas baby!!

Went to the 32.3gr Toros and they performed very good, although, a bit hot at this tune (945 fps) I slowed them down and they did about the same. Not bad but not as precise as their bigger brother the 40gr! Back to pellets; adjusted tune further and tried 25.39gr MRDs at 970 fps ~ not good. Slowed fps more and they got a little better. Slowed again to 910 fps at 50 yards and they were okay. Switched to AEA 21.9gr and immediately improved. Upped speed with these to 950 fps and they got tight! Cleaned bore, which by the way, is super easy with the Skout! Pulled the barrel assembly and ran patches. Shot the 21.9gr AEA again and they seasoned right in. Shot this 5-shot group and that is my pinky for comparison.
IMG_3877.jpeg

One of my objectives with this setup is to shoot pellets at 50 yard benchrest. Okay, I feel good about that and have JTS 22.07gr coming from Pyramyd Air to try as well. They’ll deliver on Friday 1/3/25. Back to slugs……Retuned for 40gr Toros, this time at 895 fps, and I went straight to 100 yards. Cleaned bore again. I got several good results and then decided to staple a new target down range on my target box. Settled in on the EVO and smashed this 5-shot group:
IMG_3884.jpeg

I am STOKED!! My fun time had expired! I picked all up, loaded up the truck and headed to the house. After some chores I had to measure that 100 yard group with the 40gr Toros. Below is the result and some pictures of the EVO. I was shooting off bags and although pretty good and stable, shooting with bipod and rear Saber Tactical Pro Universal adjustable rest (mouth full), I must suspect will be even better. The portable bench does leave something to be desired. Can’t wait to hit a real range and solid concrete bench!! Stay tuned…….

FX  UPDATE My DRS Classic is Sporting Wood

Update 1/5/25 I did not realize this when I ordered it but the Form stock for the DRS has a 15 inch LOP with the fully adjustable buttstock, and a 14 ¾ inch LOP with the cheek riser only ! !
I had to remove the recoil pad to get to 14⅜ LOP.

I ordered a Form Laminated stock for my DRS 22 700 on November 26th and it arrived this morning.

20241230_080006.jpg

I ordered it with an adjustable buttstock, cheek riser and Anschutz UIT rail.

20241230_083130.jpg

20241230_083225.jpg

The Kraford and Lypt picatinny t‐rail fits perfectly.

I might get this Arca rail .

Screenshot_20241230_094358_Chrome.jpg

The fit and finish is excellent.

20241230_083244.jpg

FX should seriously consider offering the DRS with this stock !

20241230_082810.jpg

The Form stock might actually make it shoot more accurately, because the rifle actually fits me.

It definitely improved the looks and feel of the DRS !

N/A  CF Tank purchase advise needed! should i get the 700cc bottle plus the 6.8l tank or just the bottle and refill from car battery or maybe get 2x 700cc?

Hi guys

here is what i am thinking of buying for my dreamline lite .30 cal

please advise what is more practical- i guess i am trying to safe by not buying the big 6.8l tank and just fill my 700cc cf bottle direct from the tuxing at home or from the car battery..

would you rather (assuming you were getting the 700cc cf bottle like i do)

1. just get the 700cc bottle and refill it every time from the tuxing compressor at home or from battery car

2. get the 700cc bottle plus the 6.8l carbon tank and fill both with tuxing at home/car and/or chug along the heavy 6.8l tank to wherever you drive shooting (i know there is some air transfer loss between the 2 tanks)

3. get maybe 2x 700cc bottles and fill each at home with tuxing (or from the car) and swap them- its light and easy plus the tuxing does not have to work so hard (get hot) because it can fill each 700cc bottle fast and by the time the 700cc bottle is empty- the tuxing has cooled down.. i just need to wait few minutes every time to fill the 700cc bottle between shooting sessions

4. maybe you have another solutions that i missed?

Feet posted in photos of Airguns.

Can anyone explain this? Why would anyone take a photo of their airgun, post in on a website, with their nasty looking feet in the photo?
The frequency with which it occurs is staggering.
Not only does the phenomena manifest itself here , but every gun site, airgun or powder burner, Worldwide.
Anyone?
