I’ve had many FX rifles in my short time in this hobby, and currently still own 3.
Out of all of them, I enjoy my dreamtac compact the most. The funny part is, I always thought it was an ugly little gun, and had no desire to own one. Then a friend of mine let me try his at the range one day, and after that, I HAD to have one!! It was smooth, light, fun to shoot, and above all, ACCURATE!!
I purchased a .22 of my own used here on the forums for the cost of a mid level pcp, and I’ve done absolutely nothing to it. I haven’t added accessories, I haven’t tuned it, I haven’t even cleaned the barrel. I got it, I loaded up a mag of cphp, and I zeroed in the scope for 35yds. I set it at min on the hammer, and 177/22 on the transfer port, and shot them at 700fps. It’s mouse fart quiet, and super accurate, not to mention DEADLY on squirrels and chippers.

I have to say, of all my rifles present and past, I haven’t had as much fun as I have with this rifle. For some stupid reason, I tried to trade it not too long ago for a atomic or ranger. I always have the grass is greener disease in the hobby, and I almost lost a good thing. I broke it out again today to shoot it, and realized why I love it so much. I cranked it to max, and had it shooting the same cphp at 880fps and without changing the scope zero, it’s zeroed in at 50yds at max. So I have a high power and low power rifle at arms length that I have recorded both zeroes, added profiles to strelok, and honest, I could sell everything else I own, and be content.

Anyway, moral of the story, try out guns before spending your har earned money. You might be surprised to find a gun that fits you perfectly, but you would never dreamed of buying without trying first.

This morning's shooting experience centered around checking out my Weihrauch HW80 .22 cal, purchased and tuned during the 2020 COVID period, to help me keep my sanity intact. I refer to it as "the Beast" due to its mass, weight, and power output.

Removing it from the vault, I first checked all of the screw tensions, with the hinge bolt barely moving, maybe a .20 turn or so on each of the side stock screws, and resetting the the scope ring screws to 15 ft lbs.

This rifle has not been shot all that much, so the barrel wasn't very dirty, requiring only 4 patches front and back, and a pair of .22 felt cleaning pellets doubled up back-to-back to make the rifling appear bright and shiny.

The installation of a Vortek PG4-Steel HO kit occurred with the purchase of the rifle and was installed immediately upon receipt of the rifle. The trigger was fully disassembled with all of the touching metal surfaces hand polished with a stone and emery cloth. Everything was lightly lubricated and adjusted to my personal preferences. This rifle, especially for producing right at 17 fpe, is very smooth, with just an audible "thump," minimum spring recoil, and no "buzz" evident.

In the original set-up, after testing several different pellets through it, it seemed to show a definite preference for the Hades 15.89 gr pellet, and that is that I have continued to use ever since.

Wiping the rifle down to remove any finger prints or smears, I proceeded to the indoor 18 yard test range. While I have springers that produce groups half of the size indicated, they are all in the <15 fpe range. Given the power output of this rifle, I find the groups to be acceptable and within a "minute of squirrel." I wouldn't hesitate to pull it out of the vault for any need inside of 50 yards.

I just received an order of pellets from Pyramydair this week. Oh boy was I excited! Grabbed the box and headed to my gun room to open it up. As I started pulling tins out my disappointment began, tin after tin had damage which was severe enough to damage pellets. I got all the tins out and flipped the box over revealing a bottom corner torn open and signs the entire bottom was crushed. Looked like an accordion.

I took a couple of pictures and emailed Pyramydair. This was about 9pm Wednesday. I got an automatic reply they received my email and by 10am the next morning a customer advocate replied with a case number assigned. A couple more emails and I receive this from them:

I'm really early in my airgun journey right now and am a huge fan of german and UK springers. I'm very tempted by PCPs, but don't have the knowledge and gun safe space for them yet. Haven’t had a squirrel in my yard/tree in absolute ages!!! For months I read hunting section with envy and check my oak tree everyday with disappointment.

This morning just as I was finishing up my coffee I noticed movements of leaves in my oak tree and there is no wind!!! Ran to the garage with excitement to grab my backyard assassin aka DreamTac compact with mag of 177 hades. Peaked around the corner of my house and there it is, a big fat fox squirrel trying to figure out how to get to my bird feeder. It saw me and ran up the tree trunk to where it felt safe to assess the situation. I put the center dot on the vital and squeezed the trigger, clack and thud! It disappeared behind the trunk, no movement for almost a minute so went looking for it. Turned out it took a dirt nap 10 feet from the tree trunk.

And boy this guy sure got balls to try to raid my bird feeder!


Found the hades pellet just under the skin on the other side, perfecto!

I probably shoot squirrels 50/50 head vs vitals & I’m generally pretty successful with either method.

I find that a Vitals shot gives me a little more room for error or for them Neo (Matrix) squirrels.

I had several pellet guns as a kid, starting with a Crosman 2100 and moving on to other inexpensive Crosman break barrel springers. After ~15 years, I'm looking at getting another rifle to do some target shooting on my property.

I know that you get what you pay for and I truly do understand that a $700 rifle is likely worth the investment, but I can't justify spending a ton of money on this so I'm looking at getting the most bang for my buck (as I'm sure everyone is). I'd like to stay under $350.

I've been pointed towards the Weihrauch HW50S as a good option for what I'm looking to do. But I'm also looking at the Flying Dragon XS46U.

It seems like a lot of people buy rifles and then tear them down and clean/tune them for better performance. I'm certainly capable of tinkering, but I'd really prefer to get something that is good to go out of the box. That is part of the appeal to the XS46U, at least in that case Mike has gone through and done the tuning.

I guess I'm looking for something that's durable, doesn't need work out of the box to perform acceptably, and is relatively accurate for the price. I'm only interested in springers or pump rifles (I've also looked at the Crosman 362 and Seneca Dragonfly but not sure about those either). I'm not interested in optics and will only be shooting with open sights.

Sorry this is kind of all over the place and I'm sure stuff like this gets asked all of the time. I have been reading a lot of info on this site and others and trying to look at all of my options.

PRICE REDUCED! Selling a 2-3 year old Yong Heng compressor with about 10-15 hours. It sometimes stops by itself then restarts by itself 1-2 minutes later. I have no idea why it does this. It does build pressure to 4500psi/310 bar. I bought another one exactly like it and had originally planned to keep this one for parts but have now decided to sell it. I think it will work fine for filling small bottles and for filling directly to pcp rifles. Pick up only or I will meet you within a reasonable distance from Canyon Lake, Texas.
