Do you enjoy vintage airguns? Sharing some research...

If you are into vintage airguns like I have become in the past year or so I'm sure you've enjoyed the research part of the process and finding out about their history around the world. There's the Blue Book of Airguns which I picked up over the summer and find an excellent resource for some basic information on models, variants and a base for condition and value. I enjoy flipping through the pages and picking some models I'd like to acquire, but for a long time I did have a hard time finding online resources for further information, instructions, manuals, marketing information, repair instructions etc.

I'd like to share a few resources which have become invaluable to me in the process.

Ebay user Crosman600repair has an excellent selection of CO2 reseal kits: https://www.ebay.com/usr/crosman600repair

Many people are probably aware of JG Airguns. They are an excellent resource for very hard to find parts. https://www.jgairguns.biz/parts-c-78/

I've two websites with a plethora of information on a large variety of vintage airgun information:
The Vintage Airguns Gallery: https://forum.vintageairgunsgallery.com/
Trev's Airgun Scrapbook: https://cinedux.com/

I think it would be great for others to share any resources they find valuable as they grow their collection.

Of course this thread would not be complete without some eye candy.

Slug weight vs length for accuracy

I'll start by saying I'm using a Maverick VP, 600 mm barrel using a Standard Superior STX Liner.
Since I can't help myself from playing around with different slugs for fun I ordered the H&N variety pack, 28-36 grains.
This morning I went out and tried each slug, I did not adjust the regs but used the hammer wheel from 5 through 7. All of the slugs shot best at 7 but not much better than 6 other than the 34 and 36 grains, Much better at 7.
Here's the thing I'm wondering. I didn't bother with the chrono but figure as I went up in weight speed slowed down but the length of the slug was longer which I would think would give the liner grooves more of an effect.
As I went heavier/longer accuracy improved. 28's were pretty good, I'm assuming since they were really flying. My 34 gr pellets hit 907 fps for average.
30's were horrible. 32 was the same as the 28's, 34's were better than the 32's, the 36's were pretty almost as accurate as my pellets. Pellets at 30 are a ragged hole vs the slugs which were a slightly larger ragged hole.

Does slug length matter more than I thought before today? In my past dabbling I only thought about slug speed.

SOLD AEA HP Semi-Auto Pistol .25 cal $350 REDUCED! + FREE SHIPPING👍

Hey guys! It’s time to sell my AEA 25 Cal semi auto pistol. Had this one for a while and it’s always been a really good gun. I did a bunch of videos with it but I’m just moving on now. Nothing wrong with it at all, still shoots great and I’v actually been hesitant to sell this one because I love it so much but I just don’t have the time for all these guns!
i’ll ship it anywhere in the US for free. Not Alaska or Hawaii lol or anywhere international.
here’s a link to one of the videos I did with it.

NLA NLA Theoben SLR 98 .177 carbine.

For sale, a Theoben SLR 98 carbine thumb hole in caliber .177 SN 847. I bought this from David Slade in late 2015 he had just serviced it. I had the privilege of "breaking it in". This SLR has been "idle" for two years with occasional shots to keep the seals happy. The trigger is the best of any Theoben gasram I have used and is currently tuned sub 12 fpe with JSB 8.4s. Will come with a .177 single shot trey and one .177 mag (rapid 7 style with one ear). The stock has been professionally repaired before I got it from Mr. Slade and is not noticeable and functions fine,
OEM stocks are available from Custom Stocks UK...I considered ordering one but if I did I would end up keeping it. I have two other SLRs a .22 and a .177 and just don't need 3. SLRs rarely hit the open market and .177s even more so. Asking price is 2700.00 and split shipping, payment, bank check pmo. Much more info to pass along about this SLR and I would prefere phone contact after initial PM to discuss. I've sold several SLRs

Tuning  RAW HM1000X some more advanced parts are ready to be shipped to USA

Hi,
A respected member wanted to upgrade his RAW HM1000X.
He needed a big plenum so he was using a bottle as a plenum as given below:
IMG-20221126-WA0062.jpg

Apart from big plenum he also needed high performance valve and Anti hammer bounce device.

I got his plenum ready of 85cc out of stainless Steel solid piece and got it tested for high pressure.

Secured for leaking by using double O rings.

Parts ready to be shipped are given below:

I hope this will add to the beauty of his RAW and also much better performance.

PCP's Adjusting vs Tuning?

There are lots of discussions about tuning your gun but what does that really mean? Would "adjusting" be a better word to use in some cases do you think? You tune a piano of course because it plays a tune and assume the term "tuning" originates from the idea of piano tuners which is an actual job of course.

With PCP air rifles it seems that tuning would be more related to adding after market parts to allow the rifle to do something other than what the built in adjustments allow it to do. In spring guns tuning almost always refers to after market springs and guides to make it shoot smoother or with more power. With PCP's what is the consensus here of the difference (if there is one) of adjusting vs tuning?

I'm not asking what the "best" caliber is or even what your favorite caliber is. If people were going to place a bet on what caliber you are likely shooting at random, what caliber would that be. Whether it be for hunting or plinking really doesn't matter.

What do you consider accurate?

There seems to be a wide definition of the term "accurate". Mine was generally able to shoot what I was aiming at. That was good enough. That might explain why I missed as much as I did. Then I started my project and now it means anything from shooting a 12" target in a "run and gun" application to precision shooting a dime at 100 yards to precision shooting a fly at 2 yards. What are your definitions of accurate? How does your targeting change according to your target? This should be a good conversation based on how and what you are using your sight for.

My HW80 .25 is hitting like my HW30 .22

I think this is my first casualty. My 80 .25 normally hits my spinners with authority. 339E5FCC-157C-4AB7-AB19-D06ACA5AA708.jpeg Today the 80 didn’t hit any harder then my 30. When firing it has a muffled sound. I thinking a broken spring. I do have a Vortek kit for it. Breach seal? Looks like my first repair coming up. Crow
Any suggestions?

All this talk about the Panthera not being a hunting gun cracks me up.

The parroting about the Panthera not being fit to be a hunting gun is just so funny to watch

the 500 is 38" long...that is shorter then the majority of rifles and not much longer then a lot of Pups that come in at 35-36" often

the 600 is 43" long and that is on par with the vast majority of rifles out there,...right on par.

So all this talk is utter nonsense,...Once again I take a Panthera in either 500 or 600 suped up to hunt my thick bush/jungle envinroment anyday over a Pup, anyday.
