Your Favorite Springer OEM Factory Stock

It’s time to bring out your favorite OEM (original equipment manufacturer) springer stock. When Dr. Robert Beeman introduced Americans to “Adult Precision Airguns” he was wise enough to have Weihrauch color and hand checker the Beech stocks like no other. They even had a palm swell. They were classy and beautiful. Only the Weihrauch lineup had these wonderful stocks. Some were Walnut.
These are my favorites (nothing spectacular but better than the new Beech models). A vintage HW55T and the new HW35E. Both in Walnut. The 35E is the final chapter in the Weihrauch “Walnut“ produced stocks.
I have seen some gorgeous OEM springer stocks right here on AGN. Show us your favorites.

Taipan .177 Chapter 3 - Will it shoot?

After sending one back, buying a different one, adding a HUMA regulator and giving in completely to the will of the rifle - the answer is ..... Oh h*ll yeah!!

I tried every way I knew how to tame this rifle and make it shoot a light weight pellet at at slow-ish speed. I failed. I bought about 11 different tins in my quest and begrudgingly increased speed and weight until I got to the last tin - the JSB EXACT Monster 13.43 grain 4.52 head size. For those of you who have read the first 2 chapters, this one has a happy ending - sort of. These pics show what a Taipan .177 can do. And, I guess they support those of you who said the Taipan was built on a powerful platform and that the .177 was purely an afterthought created from market demand.

Here is a 40 yard, 20 shot string, 5 shots per group and with the exception of 1 flyer, a dime dwarfs these groups. The HUMA reg was right on, too. I have included the shot string stats. It's sweet, but more power than I ever wanted.

Anyone interest in a powerful, accurate .177 Taipan?

Magazine or singleshot for 50/100 yard benchrest?

If the magazine isn't causing a noticeable difference on accuracy I think that's a better system so you can knock out shots faster during a consistent/lull wind timeframe. I'm planning to build a custom from scratch .22 bench gun and looking for input from those familiar with shooting these matches.

Labor Day weekend ponder-

Curious, as I caught myself feeling this way-
How many of you hit the classifieds first when logged into AGN, then hope there’s nothing of interest to you or nothing you can’t live without, as

1. You don’t feel like depleting more $$ out of your bank account
2. You don’t want to dive anymore deeper into this hobby
3. Feel like the part your buying may end up collecting even more dust than the seller had on it.

For me pellet purchases are the worst, as I look at stacks of tins as $$ that could’ve went elsewhere, but with shortages and prices hiking up, it’s a worthwhile investment. Sometimes I find myself hoping it sold before i get to them, ha!

Why I hate eBay

I have read a few of the stories about eBay on here. I just had one of those experiences that reminded me of why I hate eBay so badly.

I had searched the 'Net high and low for some Pellgunoil. I found listings on every major air gun website out there. I found that all of them show the product "Out of stock". So, I kept searching and found dozens of listings on eBay. I picked the one with the lowest "price plus shipping" and bought one. That was two days ago. I just got an email telling me that I had received a refund from PalPal. After reading the email, I logged into eBay and there was a message from the seller. It stated that there was a problem with my address. I sent him a message asking what was wrong with my address. Then, I got ticked off. He told me that PayPal won't allow him to ship to the State of Illinois because of our stupid gun laws. No kidding! I can't buy a damned tube of oil from anybody on eBay due to gun laws in this State.

I don't know who to be more mad at or who to holler at. How can ANYBODY be so stupid as to restrict the sale of OIL that might be used on a BB gun because of gun laws? I did have problems buying my Mod 25 last week. The first three websites I tried to buy from told me they couldn't deliver a gun to anyone in the State of Illinois. Yhey suggested contacting a local FFL dealer and arranging to have the gun shipped to them for a fee of $25 to $35. As mad as I was getting, it worked out for the best. The place I ended up ordering from simply required a copy of my FOID card and a copy of my drivers license. Once they had those, they completed the order. I say it worked out for the best because they happened to have the gun priced $25 to $30 lower than any other site I had been on.

But that doesn't compare to a place that has a policy that says you can't ship oil that may or may not be used on a BB gun to someone living in this state. Just unreal!

WHY did i wait so long??? Unbelievable afternoon!

Greetings all!

Why I waited so long to invest in a quality springer is beyond me. AoA sent a new HW30s to me a couple weeks ago and I've been putting it through its paces, learning as I go.

A couple shooting sessions ago, the rifle that had been grouping brilliantly, started throwing wild vertical fliers. A lot. Tightened stock screws a tad as they were still "tight" with zero improvement. I'd about convinced myself the new Hawke scope had given up its ghost. Aggravated that the mild rifle would wreck the scope within a thousand shots, I just couldn't believe it.

Then it hit me. Give the bore a swipe or two and see what happens...... The transformation was unreal and instantaneous! Back on track and making tight groups once again.

Now, about this afternoon. Being perfectly calm and the rifle now broken in, I thought it the perfect time to wring out the 8 or 9 tins of different pellets I bought with the gun. After some 5 shot groups at 30 yards, it showed an affinity for H&N Sport wadcutters. I moved my ram silhouette and a target stand with an orange sticker out to 50 yards. The rifle consistently made inch groups. One went 7/8". It was then that I decided to really hunker down with concentration and trigger control...from my picnic table, forearm resting on a rolled up hoodie atop an igloo cooler (can you say "redneck")?

I'm new here, I realize. That said, and at the risk of forever being branded a story-teller, I must report about the final 5 shots of the day. I'm looking at the orange bullseye sticker now, which my bride put into a frame for me to slobber at. They measure 1/2" or .323 ctc!!!

I've only kept one other target from a lot of shooting for 40 years plus. It was a group made a few years ago with a 32 caliber flintlock that I will never duplicate. I'm doubtful that I'll best the HW30s group from this afternoon, but, I sure intend to try!

I should be beat with a stick for not buying a quality springer YEARS ago. I intend to make up for lost time with the help of this good forum (a gold mine of information). Thanks for having me.

I have a picture or two of the group, one with a dime next to it, but have never posted a photo here. I'll see if I can figure it out tomorrow and add one here.

Thanks for reading what must appear as the ramblings of a mad man. I'm not mad, just giddy!!! Real giddy.

PS to say, Hey Chris from AofA, if you see this, thanks from Matt from Indiana for your guidance and help with my rifle and kit order. By the way, the squirrels here are learning to hate the Weihrauch, just as you thought they would!

Shot Placement On Tiny Critters....

So I have a backyard incognito setup dreamtac .177 tuned for 10fpe so 9.57gr at 700fps. Shooting is usually 30 yards and under mainly 20 yards. This setup is perfect can take anything from squirrel and under. Its so good I am not getting pass throughs even on broadside mice. With that said my question is on the smaller critters lets say chipmunk and under so rats, mice, chipmunk etc is a body shot better? I have learned today that because its so accurate and so small in size I found I just missed the lights out switch on a chipper and hit just below the brain. The mice and rat were good shots but again not sure if straight up vitals is best.
