That’s a whole lot of Bull…..

Bull Shark 🦈 that is! Bull Shark, otherwise known as Zambezi Shark in that part of the world.
Precision Ballistics in the UK just announced their upcoming Slugs in .20. Based on my success with the Makos, I will definitely be giving them a go in my regular non-slug shooting @DaystateUK Huntsman Regal.

Storing air rifles

I just watched a YouTube video where it was suggested that we should be storing our air rifles with the barrel down versus barrel. The rational being that when it's stored with the barrel up, any lead particles, dirt, etc, can fall into working parts of the gun and cause problems. (Premature seal failure, etc.) I can see the rational in his thinking, though real damage seems pretty remote.

I'm curious; what do others think?

NLA TUNED Weihrauch HW97K Blackline .177

Excellent condition and tuned by John Thomas. PG4 Vortek kit, piston sleeve buttons, brass pivot bushings, and tuned trigger. Also, I had a gunsmith professionally install a Leupold QR scope mount base that works great. Let me know what size rings you’ll need and I’ll throw a set in. I’ve put around 2-3,000 pellets through since and it’s doing between 13.5-14 fpe. Included is the original box with all its contents and an OEM Weihrauch moderator. Great shooter and the most accurate springer I’ve ever shot. It’s passed the ten dimes challenge more than once. I’m only moving because I recently picked up a PCP and my HW50 does all that I need a springer to do. 550$ TYD via F&F PP not interested in trades

Wind drift question.

I pulled this from this article: https://hardairmagazine.com/ham-columns/the-external-ballistics-of-slugs-in-airguns/

The drift was calculated using ChairGun. Note that the least wind drift occurs when starting with a muzzle velocity of about 900 fps, and increases when the MV is either slower or faster.

The wind drift at an MV of 1500 fps is about 50% more than at 900 fps. In fact it is as poor at 1500 fps as it is at about 600 fps for most slugs we use. You have to use an MV of about 2500 fps before the wind drift is as low as what it is at 900 fps!

This chart is quite a shock to most slug shooters. It shows an increase in drift of about 10% by increasing the MV from 1000 fps to 1100, and an even greater increase above that. Combined with how much more air it takes to reach 1100 fps, if shows that even for slugs there is little point striving for much over 1000 fps.

It looks like ChairGun‘s charts are screwed up and the author assumed they were correct. If this has been discussed before could someone please direct me to the conversation because this makes no sense to me at all…

This is a Safety issue alert

I have a FX Crown and I have noticed some fill whips disengage violently during an air bottle refill. (very exciting). I kept blaming the Foster fitting, but that was not the fault. It is the stock that interferes with the outer shell of the female Foster fitting on the fill whip from completely closing. It is not possible to see why this is happening because the fill fitting is recessed. After complete disassembly so I could measure all the dimensions, I discovered the milled slot in the stock has a width of 17.5 mm. Female foster fittings larger than 17mm will interfere with that slot and not properly latch. Please note that these Foster fittings rarely state their dimensions. I have 8 different fill whips and only 2 are 17mm. All the rest are 19 mm and interfere. I do not know how many other guns have this issue, but certainly the FX Crown does. Beware! I have contacted FX Customer Support, about this.

New US Importer of Steyr and review of Steyr Pro X

Those of you interested in high end semi auto bullpups might enjoy this one. I have been a fan of Steyr airguns for a good many years and needless to say was very excited when the US distributor Airgun Sport reached out for a review of the Pro X. I was able to spend some quality time with the gun and can say it's a joy to shoot and hunt with on the farm. Hopefully I was able to show enough detail that might help with a decision if this gun is right for them. Cheers

Carm Magazines?

So I'm aware of their (carm) magazines for a while now. Just now looking into getting one or a few for different airguns if they make them. Does anyone know what these have been printed with? They look printed to me. Are they glass or fiber reinforced? Also, is there a source in the USA and if not, how long does it usually take via mail/customs.. ?

PCP Rifle  NLA WTS: Air Arms T200 .177 with upgrades and 12fpe

Up for sale is an Air Arms T200 in .177. The rifle is in excellent condition. I bought it brand new about 5 years ago. It is my most accurate rifle for back yard shooting. It was also my favorite till I got spoiled by repeating HW100's, Daystate MK4's and Air Wolfs. Now that business has slowed down for the holidays I have time to list my airguns that are sitting unused. I have procrastinated too long.

The rifle has been upgraded with a Huma external regulator, Altaros aluminum .12L air cylinder and front fill with probe. The cylinder valve is shimmed perfectly against the action. Without the support that the shims give against the shoulder of the valve the cylinder will wobble. The rifle also has a slip on TKO moderator with set screw. I built the rifle to be very light. As seen in the picture it weighs 7.125 pounds. I will include the original steel cylinder. It doesn't have a valve as it was used on the aluminum cylider The scope and rings in the picture are not included in this sale.

Currently the rifle is shooting at 12 fpe and it's favorite (most accurate) pellets are JSB 10.34gr.

I am looking to get $650 plus half of shipping and insurance. Payment will be via Paypal. If you elect to pay via goods and services please add the fees too. Continental U.S. only. In case my pricing is way off, I will entertain reasonable offers. Low ball offers will be ignored.

Thanks,

Taso

SOLD Daystate Airwolf .22 cal in beautiful stock with extras

Selling an absolutely beautiful tiger striped walnut stocked .22 cal Daystate Airwolf as it just sits in the safe so should go to someone else to enjoy. Rifle is very accurate, and shoots and functions like new. Rifle has a 480cc carbon fiber air bottle which makes it so much nicer to handle with the less forward weight as well as less overall weight. Gun is very, very quiet thanks to the Huggett shroud (which functions due to non permanent end of barrel o-ring cut to be 3 pieces modification. Just put a uncut oring back in at end of shroud and barrel to make it like Huggett designed) and Huggett Snipe moderator installed. Also included with sale are 3 Daystate magazines, a magazine for parts, keys, charger, aluminum with magnets single shot tray, O-ring reseal kit, Daystate manual, original receipt and a barrel/tank band with single stud at bottom. Rifle has slight normal handling marks which are hard to picture but I will send detailed pictures to interested buyers. Scope is not included. Not interested in any trades nor selling anything separate. Gun will be individually wrapped after Snipe has been removed. Snipe and all parts and smaller items will be individually wrapped before being boxed tightly with the rifle having additional padding at ends of box for added protection during shipping. Price is $1,375.00 and will split shipping to continental U.S. Paypal Friends & Family payment is prefered (otherwise, please add 3.5% to cover the fees)

The Addiction…

I don’t know about you all, but I’ve been over here fighting the urge to jump on a lot of the deals I’m seeing for Black Friday. I’ve done good getting things I made a lists for and “needed” to complete some setups, but I have a couple of carts with few thousand dollars worth of guns and items and I’m struggling not to checkout. Many of you guys seem like it’s not an issue. Anyone else struggling? I only have a few more hours to go before some of these sales end. I’m trying to hang on but….damn man!

Homebrew FX Chrony display

Today I hacked up a quick FX Chrony display :)

Demo video FX Chrony display

This isn't a finished product or anything like but it is a working "proof of concept" that anyone can build and improve on.

The hardware is one of these (there are many clones but they all seem to be HELTEC HTIT-WB32):

ESP32 OLED WiFi Kit ESP-32 WiFi + BlueTooth 0.96 inch OLED

I'm using a 2000mAh battery in the video which is way too big, I have some of these on order. You can also use USB

250mAh 1S Lipos These don't have a protection circuit and will be damaged if completely discharged

1000mAh 1S Lipo These do have protection and are about the same size as the PCB

Tiny 220mAh 1S Lipo

The Arduino sketch is here:

FX Chrony Sketch

Over on Thingiverse there are several cases for the HELTEC PCB that might make good start points for a customised case

Example Case

Case with Batttery Space

To use it, download the sketch and program the ESP32 (Tested with Arduino 2.0.2). Turn on the FX Chrony then reset the ESP32, it should connect to your FX Chrony and start displaying FPS values. It's hardcoded for "full power air rifles" but comments in the code should help you. If it doesn't connect you may need to change the deviceUUID.

I don't know if I will do much more with this (and it really is hacky - but hey, it only took 1 day). I think people with Arduino and CAD skills could come together and make something awesome. If you do then please share with the rest of the community.

Edit: I meant to say the whole thing should cost around $30

Edit2: You will need to add ESP32 support to Arduino (tools|board manager add ESP32 Arduino) and u8g2 library (tools|manage libraries add u8g2)

Edit3: Alternative hardware (Digikey is a bit cheaper than Amazon) M5StickC Plus ESP32-PICO Mini IoT Development Kit

Edit3A: Second alternative hardware LILYGO TTGO V1.1

Edit6: Third alternative HW M5 Stick C Plus

Edit7: Standalone M5 Stick C Plus Anti Cant software (digital level + optional temp, humidity & pressure)

Edit4: Discord server for support MyLittleChrony Discord

Edit 5: Batteries, please consider picking up a protected LIPO

There are two types of LIPOs (Lithium Ion batteries in pouches)

- Protected. These have a small PCB that will detect when the battery is discharged to the safe minimum voltage. At that point the electronics disconnect the cell. The cell on the left has a protection circuit, the PCB and two 6 pin devices are visible through the Kapton tape

- Unprotected. These are usually used to power electric motors and do not have a protection circuit. A drone will stop flying long before the battery is dangerously discharged. The cell on the right does not have a protection circuit

The Heltec PCB we're using will drain current from a LIPO until either the cell protection kicks in OR the LIPO is discharged to the point where it is irreparably damaged. Even worse, charging an overly discharged LIPO can cause it to catch fire!

The nightmare scenario: You forget about the display and it over discharges the battery, when you next go to charge it you have a LIPO fire
😦

American Air Arms Evol leak

Other then bench shooting to zero my Evol it hasn’t seen or cycled many pellets. I took it out last night to deal with a coyote and discovered it had lost all its air - I keep it charged to 2300 psi to be ready for predators. The leak is near the fill port but seems to be coming from the manometer at the air tube. How do I proceed to repair? Obviously it’s degassed - the picture shows where the leak is coming from:
