A dumb idea for a recoilless springer

Alright, smart people, tell me why this idea is dumb. This isn't a trick question, I'm trying to figure out why this idea wouldn't work.

First, google the Park Rifles RH91/93. This air gun had two opposing pistons that sat in a tube under the breach/barrel. The pistons would compress air between them into a transfer port that would go up to the breach and send the pellet on it's way.

So here's my dumb idea.
Let's take a generic PCP. We'll use a Marauder because I know how they work and have had them apart many times.
What if you put a spring and piston into the air tube of a Marauder. I'm thinking you would put it in backwards from a traditional springer, so the piston would travel front to back. Put some sort of cocking mechanism in there (ideally side cocking).
So you would cock the piston, then release the piston. This would charge the plenum with air. Then you could cock the hammer and release a shot like normal.
My goal would be 12 fpe, so I think there would be plenty of room for a spring and piston along with the cocking mechanism. There even a good 6 inches between the end of the air tube and the end of the shroud to play with if needed.

So, ignoring the cocking mechanism (we'll just wave a magic wand at that for now), here are my first thoughts as far as potential problems.
1 - Let's assume a target of 800 PSI. Could the spring be powerful enough to generate 800 PSI and still be reasonable to cock? I suspect that the spring has to be powerful enough to overcome the big bubble of compressed air in front of it to continue it's forward travel. Otherwise it would sit there half cocked, and when the air was released by a shot the piston would slam home. Maybe there needs to be a valve in the piston so that once 800 PSI is achieved, the excess air would release through the valve and out the front of the air tube. So, essentially, the piston would be a regulator.
2- Would the piston seal (o-ring) be supple enough to travel in the air tube yet still be able to seal the 800 PSI in the plenum? I'm picturing something like a Marauder gauge block with the back o-ring removed. Add a rod and it becomes a big fat skirtless piston.
3- Remember how the FX Independence had all of those corrosion issues caused by condensation in the air tube? Would that be an issue here?
4- The cocking mechanism is going to need to be figured out with something other than magic. I'm thinking a side lever with the hinge at the end of the air tube. So you would cock it by pushing the lever away from you, re-seat the lever, then push a big button at the end of the air tube to "fire" the piston and charge the gun.
5- Would a gas ram be a better idea? I don't know a lot about gas rams, but I wonder if you could set the pressure in the ram to be slightly more than the pressure you are trying to generate in the plenum.

I assume the basic concept wouldn't work or someone would have already done this, but I'm trying to figure out WHY it wouldn't work.
Maybe if I find the time I'll thread an old Marauder gauge block and attach a threaded rod. Then I could ram the gauge block through the air tube and see what kind of pressure is created. I guess I would need to use a second gauge block to act as a, well, a gauge block. So basically take a stock Marauder and make a piston out of a second gauge block. I'll need to figure out how far back to start the piston, to simulate the space taken up by a compressed spring. Not sure if I'll be able to generate enough power by hand to make the experiment worth while, but you never know until you know.

What am I missing?

Decided to keep my Fx m3 and try to learn it bought a caliber kit for .25 tensioned barrel etc. I’ve tuned and tuned and just can’t get the results I want….

Being fairly new to the hobby I’ve bought a few different guns to try (guilty pleasure). One being the RTI priest II. Pulled it out of the box cranked up the reg to 135 hammer spring maybe a revolution and a half to get the speed the slug wanted and bam. First group (green) 50 yds. Second group 100 yds. Was this blind luck ?

This is by no means a throw off on fx. The M3 is a sweet shooting gun and as smooth as it gets but spent well in to the high 2k range now for mediocre results.

Bought a 1200 gun mounted a scope a couple
Quick adjustments and we are driving tacks. Just seems like for what you spend you should get this performance maybe I’m wrong or missing something. Please chime in with your thoughts.

Desperately need help. FX Crown tuning

Hey all.
Please read and not assume.
Hope im missing something but im about done with my first FX. Its a 22 600mm. Im trying to shoot 16/18gr pellets.
So when i received this thing a few months ago i first threw some 16gr pellets in and shot over my fx chrony. Im not worried about the discrepancy in the accuracy of the fx so please dont blame that, i need real input.
It was shooting 915 to 860. That was my spread. I had asked for a tune and thats what i got. Thats not why i bought an FX, for a 50fps spread.
So i started looking into how to tune. That 50fps spread grew to 100fps. I tried the AEAC tune, i tried someone elses starting point of reg pressure down at 80 and work up from there. Ive tried others working tunes and im so far off. The closest ive gotten to any consistency is at 90psi and almost max hammer spring and medium setting and im at 820. Its actually consistent 819-821. Thats great but thats not fast enough for 100yd benchrest or PRS shooting. With hammer spring on max its 830-844. As i increase reg pressure the fos goes down no matter what i try. I just put in the new brass AMP reg and its no different than the stock AMP reg. Ive gone as high as 120psi and my fps goes down to 715 and lower.

I really wanted a nice highend accurate smooth gun and finally settled on the FX Crown. Im about done with this and FX.

Can anyone help, like really help? Ive heard all the stupid comments and please dont waste my time of haters.

Im looking for guidance. Ive taken the gauges off, valve out, hammer and soring out and bottle off and everything looks clean so nothing obvious sticks out to me.
Ideas?
Thanks for your time.

My moms slinger!

So it's my mom's bday.
I'd gone to her house earlier this month and seen that she had gotten a pellet slinger....AND DIDNT SAY ANYTHING!🤣🤣 She knows I love shooting, and I asked her why she didn't tell me or ask to borrow one. She gave me the Ole I didn't wanna bother you and yada...
but what she didn't know is that she just got a twin for one of my slingers!🤯😳
I was standing there.holdimg it and talking to her about it. Some feral cats had been around and she had enough of it. Ok cool🤷‍♂️ the while time; I was calculating and measuring and guessing what all she was.missing. Today, brought her those things and said happy birthday!🤪🤙🎩🤙Got a pellet pen, the big tin of cphpS, targets, a backstop, and to top both of these slingers got her and I matching scopes. Her eyes lit up like it was exactly what she wanted to recieve.
I know they don't EXACTLY.match(mine is the winchester 1100ss, hers is the daisy 1101s; but they are the same slinger essentially.
I hadn't seen my mom light up like that in a long time. It felt good🤟🎩

Lead and its impact on raptors

I know this topic has been discussed here before. It would be great for companies to step up and provide better non-lead ammunition. Squirrels shot with lead are poisoning reintroduced condors still in southern CA even after the lead ban. Rodents shot with lead ammo should either be disposed of or we should be using non lead ammo. This shouldnt be a contentious issue. I agree with others that we need to be proactive on this issue

I wrote this srticle about 5 years ago. The revelation tor me was how much lead scatters around a carcass when elk or deer shot with powder burner. I wonder if anyone knows whether shedding of lead into the carcass similarly takes place at the lower velocities of airgun lead. https://horsesidevetguide.com/Save+Golden+Eagles+with+Lead+Free+Bullets

Acceptable average 20 yd springer accuracy??

So you got yourself a quality HW spring gun, put a tune kit in it, put a decent scope on it, put a couple tins through it. Not talking about your best day, just your average performance, 10 shot groups 20 yards, what do you expect? ctc measured, not show boating. I'm asking because I really don't know how to tell if I've got a shooter or not. In powder burners, deer rifles I like my guns to be close to an inch at 100 yards, some are better, some 1 1/2" is the best I can get them.

Listen im not trying to get everybody panty's up in a knot"

But i got to give this guy a BIG shout out" i thought i was going to have to send this rifle back" it was NOT" neighborhood friendly and then this thing came in the mail" i could not believe the difference" i did here it hit the soup can"{ BUCK RAIL} you are my savior "its that thing on the end.

From pistol to carbine to rifle

Modified a Fortitude tube by drilling just two holes for the P-Rod breech. Was going to order a Boyd's Rimfire Hunter stock for the Disco, but the universe put the brakes on: my water pump went out on my 2001 Ford Ranger, so opted for the $18.40 Maximus stock from Crosman Parts Department.

With a 2500 psi fill, got a 16 shot (2 mags) string starting on 910 and ending on 860, so still have some tweaking, but she's nice & light for sure. Stuffed an old raggedy hand towel in the buttstock, no more hollow ring. Also have since swapped out the medium Hawke rings for a set of low rings, much better now - having BIG FUN!!!
EDIT: Forgot to mention, ordered a M-Rod trigger pack from Airgun Revisions, and it bolted up perfectly, and 5 minutes with a radiused file is all the alteration it took!

Red Wolf Safari .22 v Delta Wolf .22 'tale of the tape"

I was going through my old targets and found one that I used as a guideline for both rifles use and pellet/slug of choice. Pics of the target and the Red Wolf and Delta Wolf are attached. All shots are from 50 yards.

Groups from the centre vertical line to the right are all from the Red Wolf with JSB Redesigns , JSB Beast 33.95g, JSB KO's 217 and NSA 20.2g 218's. As you can see the Red Wolf loves the Redesigns on Medium power (975fps/54ft lbs).Due to its length I will use this for primarily target work. If I did need to take something down that requires stopping power both the Knock out slugs at 61 ft lbs and Beast pellets at 68 ft lbs will more than suffice. Both showed showed signs of accuracy,I just have to get used to the recoil generated by the high power and I am sure the groups will improve.

Groups to the left are the Delta wolf with the JSB Hades 15.89's. I found these to be the best using the advanced setting of reg 110bar, Pulse 2073 and volt 72.5 shooting at 968 fps/33 ft lbs. Yes the velocity is hot but as you will see these grouped better than the factory setting used which generated around 911fps/ 29ft lbs. I have gone as far as 80 yards with the Hades on the advanced setting and I am able to hit a 1.77 inch spinner regularly with this tune. I have tried the Redesigns out of the Delta Wolf and unfortunately they don't compete with the accuracy of the same pellet out of the Red . I also struggled with slugs and so eventually settled on the Hades. This gun will now be primarily my hunting set up.It has worked well in this application , it is not too long like the Red Wolf and 33ft lbs is more than enough for what I will hunt. Note I have the original barrel in it with the plastic stripper. Issues with this are well documented in other threads. I will look to upgrade to a newer barrel with the aluminium stripper .I believe they have also reworked the newer barrels as well.Hopefully with the recently released newer valve and upgraded barrel the Delta Wolf will be able to compete with the Red Wolf.

Gave in to my desires and picked up another old Fraulein

Good friends are enablers. When they decide to sell something they present it to other friends they know will have a hard time saying no to an opportunity to buy. Such was the case this weekend when my friend and occasional shooting partner Mark brought a lovely HW55CM to a local field target match for my inspection. Of course the Fraulein jumped into my back seat and came home with me. Mark, BTW, also sold me the beautiful HW55 Tyrolean dubbed Ugly Betty which appeared in this forum a year or so ago, again, at a field target match. There must be something about matches he knows puts me in a buying mood.

This gun is in excellent condition and, like Ugly Betty, wears a hard to find 400g barrel sleeve giving it a nice weight forward balance which make the gun "hang" on target longer than lighter guns. Additionally the HW diopter sight is equipped with a period correct 1.5x magnifying Hensoldt Wetzlar iris with 3 aperture settings and a choice of clear or yellow filter.

Much appreciation to my buddy and HW55 mentor MDriskill for information on the sight and a "thumbs up" on the acquisition.
