Shooting with two of the granddaughters

IMG_3730.jpegIMG_3731.jpeg. Had a couple of my granddaughters today and they took a little bit of time to shoot the vixen but they were awfully busy playing with each other today and there was no fussing around which was nice to see , the grandkids seem to be better behaved for me lol. They were frustrated with scope alignment but they are coming around. Good times ❤️

Airgun Technologies  Agt Uragan 3 compact .22 more silent

I have Agt uragan 3 compact model with 400mm barrel.

Very nice and accurate gun.
But i need get it more silent.

My shooting is mostly for backyard and gun need to be silent.

Short and light gun is also handy and what like use.

I have test stock + moderator adaptor M14x1.25 Female to 1/2UNF-20 + Weihrauh Xl moderator.
Too long setup for short gun and good if can have little more silent.

Also test bare barell + moderator adaptor M14x1.25 Female to 1/2UNF-20 + Weihrauh Xl moderator.
Too much noise.

Today did arrive Huma-Air Modulair Airgun Moderator MOD40 Avalanche moderator and one extra modul
chamber.

It was possible to get it M14x1.25 thread so it can be shorter without any adaptor.
Moderator length can also adjust and it easy to open for cleaning, etc.

With that extra modul it is more silent when without it.
Still too loud, but really nice to adjust that moderator length shorter or longer.

Next need to adjust fps little lower, but not happy to mess up agt factory tunes, because it shoot so well.

Now that stock uragan shoot Jsb hades 15.89gr cal .22 for 930 fps.

I have test more heavy pellets, but they need to too heavy when it is silent.

Target is tune gun for 15.89gr cal pellets and about 880fps.
Hoping that it still shoot precise after that tune.

My other pcp hatsan is tuned to shoot 870 fps and it is very silent.

That uragan 3 can be different to tune what was uragan 2 are.

Is that hammerspring adjusting good way to start for that tune for uragan 3 compact?

Or need to adjust regulator or some else?

Stoeger  And the Scout secret sauce is...

So it's been a few weeks since I received my Stoeger XM1 Scout .22, but I've been getting several pellets lined up with the appropriate hammer spring setting. I've got the right numbers to shoot Hades and H&N barracuda match. Both shot well. I asked Airgun Revisions what they recommended which was the 18.1gr JSBs. Didn't have any so I went with the next best thing; FX 18.1gr. The attached pic is two 5 shot groups at 48 yards. Very impressive I must say. For those of you who want to know I was shooting about 860 FPS and the hammer spring was set at six turns out. I'm happy with that and now can do some serious small game hunting. As the girls in Hee Haw used to say "We're through playin' now!" 😁

Taipan  Taipan Veteran Standard .25 cal

Hello all,
I purchased a Taipan Veteran standard in .25 cal. from Talon Tunes back in 2018. It has developed a leak somewhere? Tony is currently out of stock of the o-ring kits. Does anyone on here know where I can get them? My local hardware store has a decent selection of o-rings but they're all SAE sizes. Taipan seems to use metric size o-rings. I've searched the internet high and low on these o-ring kits but I have struck out in finding them. Any help would be appreciated! I did a total disassemble and reseal on my Gen 1 Mrod. I'm sure I can handle this Taipan as well. From what I'm reading they seem fairly easy to work on. Thanks in advance!

Air Arms  Weird Problem with My New Leupold

The POI at 50yds with a Leupold EFR
VX-3HD 6.5-20x40 on my new FX-King was a good 3” high even with the elevation adjustment down as far as it would go. So I switched it with the Meopta that was on my Air Arms S410. I took the AA to the range today to see if it too had the same problem using that Leupold scope. It worked just fine…I had to crank it back up to zero it at 25yds, and there was plenty of room both up and down after zeroing. The FX uses high rings on a picatinny, whereas the AA has medium high rings on an 11mm mount. Any ideas what’s going on here? All input is welcome. The attached pic is from the Air Arms/Leupold using 16gr JSB’s at 25yds.

Tuning  Energy vs. pellet weight. Possible air volume regulation

I measured muzzle energy for pellets with different weight. It is not surprise that lighter pellets show lower energy due to faster acceleration and leaving barrel much before full gas expansion. My question: Does anyone know of a rifle that allow adjustment of either plenum volume or hummer power for used pellet weight? This may allow for highr number of shots for lighter pellets.

it seems eye relief is more critical when using a scope on a Bullpup.

What are you finding out? I like shorter scopes and because of the weaver or Picatinny rails can not always get the optimum eye relief. This is a problem for me with Bullpups.... shooting offhand vs. shooting from a bench the hold changes thus the eye relief changes for me. Um ,my long neck doesn't help.I also use an adjustable butt plate.

Hatsan  I finally cracked my AT44 code.

I have achieved harmonic balance for what I need and what I desire out of my Hatsan at44-10S qe long .177 I am sure that others will see these numbers and will consider them average at best. Any way here's what I am pleased with. I have a hatsan regulator set at 100bar. I'm using JSBM 13.43 at 950fps (27fpe) and getting 50 usable shots from 200bar to 100bar.

It just feels.....right. I don't know how else to explain it. It is super quiet. Seems like it isn't wasting air per shot. The shots are coming out with a super flat trajectory. I was able to find some of the shots afterwards and they looked great. You can see that the impact is almost dead center when looking at the skirt. These were shots from 50yds and I love the way these guys expand. That's definitely good when trying to be humane to the receiver of the lead-lazer.
Well that's what I got and I just couldn't be happier with my results.
Thanks for reading. AGNUTTY

Walther lgu first impression

This is not intended to be full blown review but more of an initial impression of Walthers new underlever called the LGU.

The rifle is only available in .177 at present, a refreshing change to see the smaller calibre available first.

The first thing to impress me was the packing, a sturdy card board box with double tucks & lids which opened out to reveal the rifle snuggly nestled in & supported by a purpose integral lining, well done Walther! The rifle inside is protected by a polythene sleeve, inside which, is a bag of silica to protect from moisture. There’s an Allen wrench in a separate plastic bag that is stapled to the box & a handbook. The handbook immediately gives the impression of quality as opposed to a lose piece of paper or a company leaflet detailing various products. So I’ve already got the impression Umarex/Walther have upped the anti! IMAGE

Upon removing the rifle from the packing it’s quite obvious on my example it hadn’t been polished prior to boxing as it was full of streaks & appeared rather dull. The second thing to come to mind was the statement Terry made yesterday in reply to one of my threads where he said he first read about the LGU at it’s conception, or something similar. My immediate reaction was why didn’t Terry see the HW97 & TX200? They must have been hidden under the table then!

Okay, it does strike you quite unashamedly this new LGU is very reminiscent of both the HW & AA offerings & I have to be honest I like the looks better than the other two. I always thought the LGV looked rather long & unwieldy, I have no idea if the LGU is shorter or not but it is more compact looking to me at 1064mm o/l.

The blueing is quite deep, in fact I have one of the first Webly Tomahawks to come out of Birmingham & serviced a Brummie Longbow yesterday, we all know how good the blueing is on those, well let me tell you the LGU would not be put to shame, Umarex, I’m impressed! IMAGE The streaks are easily removed with a duster.

Putting the rifle to the shoulder it feels quite well balanced, the length of pull must be shorter than a 97/77 as I can reach the trigger quite easily but my middle finger knuckle is inclined to touch the rear of the trigger guard. I have small hands so people with hands like a pound of wet sausage may find the fit between the guard & pistol grip too close, it’s not likely to bruise you upon firing though like a shotgun would but it’s worth mentioning I thought. IMAGE

The vented rubber recoil pad feels nice, I’ve not scoped the rifle up obviously but the cheek piece does have a nice feel to it, if it’s high enough or too high I have yet to determine.

One part I do find unattractive is the two rubber “O” rings at the end of the cocking lever, it’s obvious why they are there & do do the job but also detract from the overall appearance of what really is to me quite a nice looking bit of kit. IMAGE

No stippling, checkering or any other sort of anti-slip on the fore-end for the supporting hand although there are scallops which I much prefer. There is a panel of checkering on the pistol grip outlined with a single line with the Walther logo underneath. IMAGE.

The muzzle end plug can be removed & replaced with an adapter, sold as an optional extra ( RRP £9.95), for fitting of a ½” x 20 (1/2”UNF) silencer, Nice touch, I declined but for the hunters it’s there if you want it & won’t break the bank. IMAGE

Over to the Skan for a short chron test straight from the box.

The under lever is just held under tension from a ball bearing like the TX & is no harder to cock than most other comparable underlevers, you get the usual noise from the Anti Bear Trap Ratchet of which there are 3 notch’s in the compression tube. To close the underever you press the ABT catch on the right hand side of the action & is the same as that on the TX. Upon closing the underlever it’s quite apparent the synthetic bearing on the front of the compression tube is in contact with the cylinder wall & the piston seal is quite tight, I could feel the drag quite markedly.

The barrel has a secondary “O” ring fitted.to help seal the breech as well as one in the bottom of the compression tube . Neither are easy to see from the images.

The rear safety come on automatically during the cocking cycle & just pushes forward with the thumb in the same way as it does on the LGV. This is a feature I do like as opposed to the HW & TX system.

First shot over the chrono my instant reaction was very nice firing cycle & very similar to my FT tunes, a dull thud on firing, maybe a little more recoil & a slight ring a bit like you get on the 97 from the underlever. Open the breech to load the pellet for the next shot & I’m thinking I can smell diesling? No smoke, fire the shot & I can see something from the muzzle but it’s not smoke so I cock the rifle again holding the compression tube so I can see inside the central transfer port. What’s that, 2 “O” rings? A cup breech seal? Due to reflection I just couldn’t make it out so I insert a probe & one seal seemed to displace. Eventually I get to see properly, the “O” ring in the bottom of the compression tube had a complete ring of some sort of light clear liquid around it which I assume to be silicon oil?
I removed as much as I could using an absorbent tissue & continued shooting different makes of pellets over the chrono (Skan Pro MK3 Diamond)
RESULTS BELOW
Air arms 4.51 745fps LOW 723fps HIGH 754fps ave fpe 10.43
JSB 4.52 747FPS 732 747 10.46
AADEXP 4.52 771 769 773 10.35
H&NFTT 4.50 746 742 749 10.51
Superdome 750 746 753 10.28

Now don’t read too much into those figures, they are representative of 2 of the 3 rifle I have here so what you can expect I would think but there are lots of things to consider.
First most people associate dieseling, which both rifles did, with high power, well this is not always the case. Rifles running high compression ratios can & often do return much lower power because of dieseling. I’m not saying this is what’s happened here but it’s a consideration. IT'S WORTH MENTIONING WHEN I WAS TAKING PHOTO'S OF THE BREECH "O" RINGS OUTSIDE IN SUNLIGHT THE WIND WAS BLOWING SMOKE OUT OF THE BARREL INTO THE BREECH

Second the rifles are tight internally, too tight in my opinion, I would never consider trying to size the seal, I don’t & won’t size piston seals to cylinders on rifles but neither would I wait for these rifles to bed in, I just get the gut feeling from experience it will take many thousands of rounds.

Now the firing cycle, it’s pleasant enough out of the box however I feel the rifle is strangled, could be too small a transfer port, too weak a spring definitely too long in the stroke so can it be improved? Oh yes indeed! In fact don’t be surprised to see mine short stroked by Sunday.

So the trigger, two stage unit, first stage is so long I felt I was going to have my finger stuck up my nose before I got to the second stage. Let off was pleasant enough with minimal creep & I’m sure it could be made to most peoples liking as full instructions for adjustment is covered in the user manual. IMAGE

Well would I buy one doesn’t apply here, I already have so am I happy with my purchse……..YES! It's better out of the box than it's competitors, smooth, no twang, nice to shoot.

I have two TX200’s a new laminate HW77 so I think my initial assessment is fair especially as I’ve tuned many HW97’s in all calibres as well as numerous TX’s, 77’s etc.
I think it’s better looking than the HW97 & better than the TX out of the box so that says it all really, but I will spell it out, In my opinion Air Arms & Weihrauch get your finger out because this rifle is better than anything either of you have in production now!

I have nothing to do with Walther/Umarex or Armex, I have no hidden agenda or axe to grind. I purchased my own rifle from a retail outlet & the views I have given are my own alone & no others. I have told it how I see it & truly believe anyone who purchases a LGU will be getting a better rifle out of the box than it’s main competitors for less than £350.00.

Apologies for the poor images it's difficult to take them with rifle in one hand & camera in the other especially outside today.
IF IT'S NOT BROKE.........DON'T FIX IT!

In 2015 i bought a .22 had some Trigger mod's and for £275.00 it's become a very good friend indeed to date ... If you get a chance try one

Other  Plenums

I've been playing with Plenums for about 8 months.

This only applies only to regulated guns.

Plenum supplies additional air volume to help keep the pellet/slug under acceleration. Hopefully for the length of the barrel.

When air pressure drops to a level low enough the pellet stops accelerating. If that is at 67% of the length of your barrel then the effective length of your barrel is 67% of the physical length.

Plenum is the volume of air between the regulator and poppet or equivalent air transfer mechanism.

Optimum Plenum volume appears to be 3-4 times your barrel volume. Diminishing returns at 6x and above.
Volume= barrel length x barrel inside radius * Pi
.25 cal, 600mm barrel
(6.35/2)*600*3.1416= 19CC
19CC barrel volume should have a plenum of 60-80CC.

There really is no such thing as too much plenum.

Some plenum is better than no plenum

If you regulate a non-regulated gun then you may be limiting your power, possibly significantly, without a plenum.

If you have a properly devised plenum then you can reduce the regulator pressure significantly and get many more shots with the same FPS/FPE as before the plenum.

Some exceptions like a very small inlet from the bottle, like my Gauntlet G30, and the plenum will have little or no effect.

Plenums that replace a gauge are also limited by the size of the hole.

Just an observation it seems minimum hole for the plenum is some value larger than your caliber. Have not tested that, need to buy some washers to reduce the flow and see where it becomes an issue.

Place your bets

This is probably old to you old timers so forgive me:

I've been helping someone setup their new HFT gun... we are setting up his dope using Strelock Pro for expediency
And then taking actual shots.

We've settled on JSB 13.4s moving at 815 FPS
Yep, there are (Exact and Redesigned)..... and we are going to compare both here

The Redesigned have a B.C. of .030 according to Strelock
the Exacts have a B.C. of .026 according to Strelock

Initially, as an oversight on my part.... i entered the Exacts info into the Strelock APP and created my dope with them, although i was actually shooting the Redesigns.

at 10 yards.... the Redesigns P.O.A. is 2.3 or 23 clicks Mrad.
at 10 yards.... the Exacts P.O.A. is 2.2 or 22 clicks Mrad.
i was suprised by the one click difference at 10 yards

I actually took 63 solid shots off a bench using the Exacts dope, while shooting the Redesigns; all target fell ( yes hole size varies ).

Here's the bet - where will you place your money?

If i put out a paper target at 55 yards and shoot 10 rounds of Exacts and 10 rounds of Redesigns using my "redesigned dope" and then "Exact dope" do you think I'll see a difference down range in my Point of Impact at 55 yards? Do you think the dope with the two differing B.C.'s will show up consistently down range? It's only math right?

Exacts dope says: 1.7 Mrad or 17 clicks at 55 yards
Redesigned dope says: 1.6. or 16 clicks at 55 yards

Chime in,,,, this could be a fun or nonsensical thing... dunno.

  • Question
Tuning  Regulator Question

I have a HUMA regulator set to 140 BAR in my .22 700 Panthera. I shoot this rifle tethered to a Nuvair external regulator. Up to now, I've set the external reg to 250 BAR because the HUMA internal reg seems to recover faster with high bottle pressure. The question is: Does the internal HUMA reg respond better, considering both performance and wear, to a large pressure differential (250 BAR/140 BAR) or would it be better to turn the external reg down to say, 200 BAR.

JackHughs

Whip will not release from gun after charging.

Brand new CHKDIV (i know) compressor, first use connected to same inline filter setup ive been using. It seems great; quiet, charged the gun to 250 just fine, opened the press relief valve all (?) the air blew out quickli BUT, whip will not disconnect from gun. Obviously pressure remaining in the, line? Anybody?

  • Question
whats the best way to make a dope card for my particular PCP gun and my ammo ?

I have been studying rifles and scopes and reticules ect and im realizing that all of the info i studied is for normal guns with factory ammo that fire roughly the same fps and fpe every shot and all of the mobile apps are really technical and dont seem to apply to my setup at all, although an MOA is still and MOA so i figure this can still be done

my AEA megalodon 22in .58 cal is not even regulated but for the first few shots its roughly the same and is strong enough for 100 yard deer hunting but im not sure how to make dope card that will be reliable in the field so that i will know what moa adjustments i to make once i know the range of my target

I dont yet have a chronograph to test my fps so i would for now rely on youtube videos where they shoot the same exact gun and same exact ammo to get my average fps of 750 with a 335 grain slug with the scope zeroed in at 50 yards

I might be missing something as all of this is pretty new to me, anyone here have hunting or 100+ yard shooting experience with these big bore airguns ?

what kind of cheat sheet can i make so i can quickly and accurately take a shot at 100 yards or 150 if my scope is zeroed in at 50 yards, or zeroed in at 100 yards and i wanna take the shot at 50 yards or maybe im on a hill and deer is 200 yards out maybe thats possible with this gun im not sure yet more testing needed, any wisdom shared will be greatly appreciated thanks
