The ol' shooting jacket question.

Hello All,
Im wondering into unchartered territory on a budget.
Looking for a "cheap" jacket to try out a few new classes.
Any input on these Creedmoor jackets? Im a big guy and want something that will actually fit.
Measuring at 49" snug so 50" gave a tad bit of room, thats with a tshirt.
Thanks

PS - Search only gave 2 old threads and none really addressed this specific jacket. Im not buying anything beyond this at this time. Seem some nice ones out there but if I stick with shooting a class that allows a jacket I may upgrade down the road.

Shooting bench NOT portable.

I am going to build a shooting bench for a public airgun shooting range. I am building it as an addition to the local rifle range.
It will be sitting out in the sun and weather all the time.
So pressure treated wood obviously.
I am going to be using this bench myself all the time so I’m going to make it nice. Router the edges paint or stain.
It has to be in a public place. The range is secure . But I don’t want to moved or stolen.
So I plan to over build it and assemble it on sight so it is really heavy.
I have plans and actually have most of the wood left over from other projects . Just need a 4x4 and the bolts and screws. Probably have them too but I am to lazy to round them up. And the top decking.
I plan to use 1 1/4x6 deck boards for the top surface.
Should I use deck boards and paint or stain/polyurethane them ? Or should I go with some plastic deck boards? Only need 4, 8 foot boards. I am making the seat attached and out of the same material.

TJ barrel on Evol 3 circular indentations near muzzle…

Hoping to get barrel gurus to chime in here…

There’s a general post re my new to me Evol (https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/evol-having-cardiac-arrest.1330307/#post-1947180), but the main gripe is this:

IMG_5842.jpeg

IMG_5839.jpeg

IMG_5838.jpeg

There are these three ring-like dents in the last 2-3 inches of the barrel… rifle is supposed to have less than 200 pellets through it, plus maybe 200ish from me by now… what the heck?!?

It’s shooting great until it’s not, meaning it’s grouping nice if you ignore the many many fliers it is throwing. Like it’s either spot on or 2 inch off at 45y, no in between. I guess there’s no saving this one, right?

FX  When you’ve got (2) 500mm DRS’s but one of them has a larger plenum!

I wanted to see how much power I could squeeze out of the larger plenum version and still maintain a good shot count of at least 3 full magazines (42 shots).

Here's my baseline
  • Both are .22 caliber
  • Both have a rather small 210cc air capacity
  • My DRS Classic Synthetic has a 32cc plenum
  • My DRS Tactical has a 54cc plenum
  • Both regulators were set at 100b
  • Both of these came perfectly tuned at 880 FPS with 18g pellets
  • As is they yielded 4 full magazines (56 shots). Plus I got 2 more shots within 5 FPS after it dropped off the reg
  • 225b to 100b = 2.2cc's per shot
My goal was to shoot 22g pellets @ 880 FPS. While this was easily achievable, I had to increase the reg to 120b and +30 HST clicks, which was using too much air.

So next I tuned for 22g pellets @ 860 FPS. With the reg at 115b and +21 HST clicks I was able to get 38 shots. Good, but shy of my goal of 3 full magazines. 225b to 115b = 2.9cc's per shot.

Next I tuned for JSB Monster Lite 21g pellets. With the reg at 110b and +12 HST clicks I was able to get 46 shots @ 860 FPS. Goal achieved. 225b to 110b = 2.5cc's per shot. That's as much power as I want to squeeze out of this airgun. With these settings I also tested the velocity of the following pellets: AEA 22g @830 FPS, JSB 25g Hades Monster @800 FPS (I've confirmed that these shoot faster than you'd think for the weight), and 22g FX Hybrid slugs @ 820 FPS.

If you do feel the need to tune it, the adjustments are more accessible in the Classic version as all you need to do is remove the stock to access the HST. But, in order to access the HST on the DRS Tac you need to remove the top rail, trigger guard, and stock adapter. It looks intimidating, but its actually only 11 screws.

IMO, the .22 caliber 500mm DRS is a moderately powered (30-35 FPE) pellet shooter. The platform is ultra light weight, yet very rigid. I believe it was designed to simply take it out of the box and shoot, no tuning necessary.

New Foam Mattress and Sleeping Beauty

PARADIGM.jpg

Nice Huh? The absolute best foam in the aerospace container industry, Zote LD45, closed cell nonporous inert = AWESOME! This stuff can take a 24 hour bath in brake cleaner, unscathed. The company that did this (OSAAP) is looking to get into the high end protection market for airguns and I got to be one happy guinea pig. My Paradigm is resting peacefullly, ready to wake and commit ruthless pesting atrocities. lol

Brocock/BRK  Need some help with a BRK atomic and hand pump

I acquired a .177 atomic late last year. Came pre charged, shot two mags out of it, checked for leaks and put away during the unexpected busy work season.

Now I came back to it, but can’t pump it to save my life with a four uncles hand pump. Pumps up just fine until the line builds pressure, then it’s impossible to pump any further. Tried cocking it, no difference. Pressure is slightly above 100 bar, not attempting to charge from zero. Unfortunately I bought the hand pump during Black Friday and it’s well out of the return window (if it’s even the pump that’s at fault). Have a notos and four uncles pump at my vacation home, so I’m not new to hand pumping and know what’s involved.

What could be the likely culprit here? Checked the cigarette filter, it’s not plugged. Unfortunately I don’t have another pcp, hand pump, or compressor to test further. I’m inclined to think it’s an issue with the pump. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Umarex  New Zelos Inbound!

Finally pulled the trigger and ordered a .22 Zelos from Not Just Guns in Mason, Michigan for $425.40 total shipped. Also ordered a Huben Zelos Bottle Regulator from Hajimoto Productions and a 580cc CF Bottle direct from Tuxing.

A couple of questions

Are the stock Magazines okay as to build quality and reliability or are there better aftermarket available?

Looking for recommendations on pellet choice for longer range shots out to 75-100 yards on Ground Squirrels. Hoping it will like the Daisy .22 PrecisionMax Hollowpoints that my Xisico Sentry shoots so well but they're pretty light for long shots, especially with any wind, @ just 15.27 grains.

Also, what's the most effective budget moderator to make the Zelos more stealthy without adding more than 4-5 inches to the overall length?

PCP Rifle  WTS RTI Prophet.177 price lowerex

Original prophet. Comes with two Orion mags. The yellow one jammed my gun but I got it fixed. The other one is brand new from Orion. Recently had serviced at Fox Air power with a new pellet probe and hammer I think. Not sure of fpe but guy I got it from said it like the 13.4 grainers. Haven’t shot for groups but no Little Rock was safe when I was shooting on a dirt road.

PCP Rifle  SOLD RAW HM1000x Mini-Hunter .25 caliber

RAW .25Caliber Mini-Hunter

I purchased this gun in April of 2024 on the recommendation of my friends Rick Rhem and Jerry Kornfield. As a long distance bench shooter, I'm always interested in extraordinarily accurate guns that show great promise as bench platforms. Well, this little beauty did not disappoint. I was so impressed with its accuracy that I actually chose to shoot it in the100 yard pro field at RMAC in 2024. Although I did not manage to appear on the podium, the gun was certainly not the issue. This gun,is everything the average air gunner could want. The Mini-Hunter is light weight, tough as nails, supremely accurate and sips rather than guzzles air all while still delivering excellent energy on target. The only down side of this little gem is that it's loud. I mean, REALLY loud, like 96dbs! That little 16 inch barrel delivers quite a bark. However, in an effort to preserve what is left of my “old man” hearing, I added a Sonus 1350 suppressor which quiets it's bark to a respectable yelp. Additionally, as I have rather big hands, I added a larger Ergo palm rest grip which not only comfortably accommodates my larger hand but ads the stability of a palm rest for those that might choose to shoot the gun off-hand or use it as a truck gun. I also added a Grey Ops Arca rail which allows for M-lock picatinny 1913 rail attachments as well as Arca Swiss mounting. Lastly, since RAW does not supply cases with their guns, I needed to protect my investment. To that end I purchased a Vevor hard shell case from Amazon. This turned out to be the perfect storage and travel container, being both strong and light weight. So,whether you're shooting off-hand, off of a stick (mono-pod), tripod or like me off the bench, this little gun is showroom pristine and an ideal setup that will not disappoint.

My name is Brandon, and I am a retired sheriff's detective living in Riverside County, Southern California.

I have been shooting air rifles and firearms since I was 10 years old. Recently, I gave my Gamo .22 caliber springer rifle to my brother, as he was dealing with an invasion of tree squirrels on his property.

I am looking to buy my first PCP rifle as soon as possible. I recently moved to a new house with an acre lot that is plagued by gophers and a few rats behind my barn.

Additionally, I will assist my friends with their dairy farms in managing their vermin and pigeon pest problems so I believe a PCP rifle would be the best effective tool to use.

HW/Weihrauch  Is This the HW30s’ Biggest Weakness?

I’ve been really enjoying my HW30s — it’s a beautifully made rifle, incredibly smooth and just a joy to shoot. The craftsmanship overall is top-notch, and it’s easy to see why this rifle is so highly regarded.

But… there’s one small thing that’s been bugging me — the rear sight.

It looks great and has a clever design, but I’ve noticed there’s a bit of play or wiggle between some of the parts. There are actually three areas where there’s noticeable play, and unfortunately, it’s enough that I think it could affect accuracy when using the open sights. It’s not loose in a “falling apart” kind of way, but there’s definitely some movement that feels out of place on a rifle that’s otherwise built like a clock.

To me, it doesn’t seem like a defect or something broken — more like a general looseness in how the pieces fit together. Which makes me wonder:

Is this just how the HW open sights are, or did I get unlucky?

I’d love to hear from other HW owners — especially those with a 30s or similar models. Is this rear sight play something you’ve noticed too?

Tuning  Taipan Compact .25 - lead free - sub 15 fpe

Hi all,

I have two Taipan Vet 1 .25 cal rifles, one long and one compact that I enjoy a lot. The compact is my current squirrel gun, as well as the occasional pest bird in the barnyard, and pest rabbit/woodchuck in the flowerbeds if I am walking about. The long hasn't been set up yet, but is going to be my mobile artillery for knocking off pest birds at distance in the breeze off of a tripod.

I have been thinking I need a Taipan .25 Standard to complete the collection. My thought would be to set up the standard as my squirrel/rabbit/woodchuck gun, and setting up the compact as a barn gun, shooting lead free pellets at low power. I have an adjustable Huma Reg for a Taipan that came with the long I bought. In theory, I could set the reg pressure low fairly easily, and then dial back the hammer spring. Or maybe keep the compact as a squirrel gun for walking the woods, and the standard could be the barn gun for hiogher shot count.

Anyone have any idea how a CZ barrel might do with lead free .25 pellets?
Are Taipan Vets set up to be able to be dialed way down in power and still be consistent?

Thank you,
-pg
