Umarex  Notos and Bug Buster

My shoebox compressor came today so I aired up my Notos and set out to zero in my Bug Buster 3-9x32. This is my first PCP, and I am having a bit of a difficult time with the eye relief on the Bug Buster - I may need to sort out mounts to bring it back further.

It seemed like it was fairly easy to zero I at 12 yards, but I noticed that it was getting pretty inconsistent - especially if I changed my magnification lower then back to higher.

I realize they aren’t premium glass, but are big busters notorious for not holding zero with magnification changes? I’m more of an iron sights guy, so trying to figure out where my issue is.

Thanks!

Spectrum Analysis

A spectrum analysis is a compilation of all frequencies and the power levels associated with each over some specified interval.

This is a spectrum analysis of two signals.
Both signals (red and blue) are about 0.35 seconds long.
This graph shows a comparative spectrum analysis of the samples.
It shows frequencies between 0Hz and 22kHz in 512 bins with each bin representing a channel 43 Hz wide.
The two signals are over laid.
The blue signal analysis is for the bare rifle.
The red signal analysis is for the rifle with the moderator. The moderator used generally tests as about 10 dB below the bare rifle if you are checking with a cellphone microphone from a distance of about 15 feet. The cell phone microphone favors the low end of the spectrum. It also sounds very good and flat to the average listener.

red&blue.jpg

This very clearly shows what is happening with this moderator (or pretty much any moderator). The moderator captures the low frequency energy passing through the moderator and translates it to higher frequencies. It emits that energy at the higher frequencies. Those frequencies are mostly above about 6 or 8 kHz. The higher the better. The longer this takes the better.

So the moderator should take a blast of high pressure air which contains some set of frequencies and slow that air down so that the signal takes longer to pass (removes the crack) while at the same time translating those low frequencies to higher ones.

That is what it has to do.

EDIT: I want to make clear that the graph represents the PEAK power level for each "bin" during the sample period. IOW the graph does not start at 0 seconds and progress forward. That's not how this works. If you pick any point on the graph, that point is the PEAK power level for the frequencies (the bin) represented during the sample time.

RC Shock oil as a pellet lube?

Hi Guys,
Has anyone tried using radio controlled car shock oil as a pellet lube?
I believe it is silicone based so dieseling should not be a problem. There are different weights (viscosity’s) avalible from 20 to 45. I’m thinking the thinnest, 20 might be worth trying.
If you have any experience using it please let me know how it went.
The other option I’m planning on trying is bicycle chain wax.
Pic attached of both.

Tuning  M3 700mm 25 cal tuning process

I am trying to get 1MOA at 100m shooting slugs with my M3. I have documented the process of tuning:

At the end of this report I have couple of questions. I could get 1moa groups, but could not be consistent.
I hope this report could be useful for somebody new, and experts could give me some ideas for better tuning to make the gun more consistent.

EBR Update

Just an update on Extreme Benchrest Arizona. Top Daystate shooter Fady Kiwan has just posted what is the highest score at 75 yards in its 12 year history, so he is all set for the 100 yards final today. Fady won the World Benchrest Champoinships last month with a BRK Ghost, but for this comp, fady has chosen to use a bit more tech in the form of a Daystate Alpha Wolf. :)

Air Arms  FPS WITH YOUR TX200 MKIII

This past Spring I installed Vortek PG4 SHO kit in my TX200 .22 cal. It's shooting great on the range, from a bag at both 25 and 50 yards, as well as for general plinking. My question is, finally, when you chronograph your TX200, what sort of FPS are you getting? I chronographed my rifle most recently in the 645 fps range using JSB 15.86 and AA 16 grain pellets. In the past I thought I'd remembered shooting closer to the 750 fps range. Maybe I remember wrong, after all, I'm older than . . . well, I forgot that too. Anyhow, share what your TX200 MKIII in .22 cal is doing. Thanks, Orv.

FX  Impact M3 replacing first reg gauge

Anyone replace their first reg gauge? I have an extra digital gauge that I would like to put on there but the original gauge comes with 2 O-rings and a brass washer. There is no X-ring inside like the other gauge ports. Since there is no X-ring the gauge has to be tightened all the way to seal and that leaves the gauge orientation crooked. Has anyone just used an X-ring instead? Or any ideas how to get the gauge straightened out?

N/A  Quality big bore also capable of taking deer?

This discussion started in a thread in the hunting forum. However I didn't really want to hijack their thread too much. I also tried searching through the forums but many were older threads.

Yesterday at work in the woods we were talking airguns again. They were surprised at overall how quiet they were. The discussion moved to deer hunting. Many were impressed that people hunt with them too (although Ohio currently doesn't allow for it) . I'd never considered big bores much but its gotten me looking into them and trying to learn about them. They also are getting curious about them.

I've not had the opportunity to see a big bore rifle in person yet, let alone shoot one. I know it takes more air to push larger projectiles so they tend to be louder than smaller calibers. However what are some quieter models as thats a big draw to air rifles for myself and others. I certainly want to avoid the noise levels of powder burner if possible. Are suppressors viable on big bore rifles?

Price aside, as I don't mind paying more for quality, IF theres a difference and improvement in fit finish and performance, what big bore air rifles would you recommend? What are some that have the capability for taking deer? (state laws aside as I know that varies) Are there any you would avoid and why?

User Cheplicki replied in the other thread:

I would recommend a bulldog in 357 or 45.. more then enough power and you can keep the sound down.. air-force Texan and AEA element 457 would be a great gun.. I would avoid really long guns if you're trying to keep the sound down because u will have a 6ft rifle after you add a suppressor lol.. there are a lot of great deer guns out there but it all depends on what you want to spend..

I appreciate any other suggestions or insights.

Other  Tequila Pistol micro mini review

Firstly I'm going to admit I'm doing destructive testing on it, not intentionally but it's how it's working out. Just a bunch of stupid errors on my part. To save others from the same fate. Xoloti aka Alfonso is very gracious about sending me parts.

Mike VV gave a great report of the mechanics, I'm only going to add that the fit and finish is excellent.

My trigger is currently 2#4oz, easily adjustable but i'm leaving it alone for now.

For the first 20 shots, 2 mags, I averaged 7.1 fps deviation. using .22 14.3gr Crosman HP's at 9 yards

Center is the first ten so #21 though 31 out of the gun

Top left is the next 10 Top right is the next 10 coming off of the regular at 2000psi Front rest only using a red-dot, with a Donny FL Tanto, still makes a touch of noise.

This is going to be a fun gun to play with.IMG_2350.jpegTequilia Gunjpeg.jpeg
