FX Impact MKII slow leak...Found it!!!

Found my leak!
Look at your atmospheric blead hole on the right side of your Impact.
Small leak over a few weeks is a thing to troubleshoot. A bit of soap an water is cheap and affective.

A bit of a challenge, but most can do it with patience.

Tuning consistency

I'll say up front that I'm relatively new to PCP tuning. I'm having troubles getting a consistent tune. Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

Setup: FX Maverick 700mm .22 with 11 gram hammer, Huma pellet probe and hammer spring, shooting through the slug transfer port.
Pellet: JSB Exact .22 Monster redesigned
Goal: consistent speeds around 950 FPS

And here's what I did:
- Find the regulator pressure resulting in a plateau of 1000 FPS at maximal hammer spring tension. This turned out to be 120 bar on the rear regulator, so I set the front to 150 bar for a 30 bar difference.
- Turn back the hammer spring tension to find the 95% optimum at 950 FPS. This turned out to be half way the preset wheel (4 out of 7). The difference between 4 and 5 is quite big (940 at setting 4 and 970 at setting 5). I tried to finetune using the preload screw, but that didn't do much.

I now have an average of 940 FPS, but the spread is quite large (range from 920 to 975, not changing the hammer spring tension). At 100 meters, I can also see that the rifle is not very consistent.
What would the more experienced people around here advice me to do to achieve a more consistent FPS? Lighter hammer maybe? Or more pressure? Any advice is appreciated!

Pathfinder XR on the Warpath…

She’s been itching to have at it and was tired of hearing Atomic “this”, Atomic “that” and was wanting to “git some”. So we arrived and I setup off the hood of the Subaru and proceeded to take out three sparrows and one starling off the long, low, hoop house roof. I didn’t think I could recover the bodies from but was able to push them down from inside the hoop house. The longest shots off the roof, 54 yard, back to back kills. Shot one sparrow from the hay bale at 50 yards off that silo. The rest of the kills were inside the hoop house from 20 to 40 yards, with the bulk of the kills at 25 yards. I did not recover five bodies and I missed at least three times, mistimed shots, birds flying off as I broke the shot, cosmic interference, etc.🙄 She was wrecking them with the Crosman Premier Hollow Points. I don’t intend to use my Pathfinder XR as my walk about rig. The Atomic XR retains that role. And it would have easily made all the same shots the Pathfinder XR did today. Shots over 60 yards on pests is where the Pathfinder outperforms the Atomic otherwise, sub 50 yards, it’s a tie for me.

Holdover labeled on Parallax Wheel vs. yardage

Does anyone else just label their parallax wheel with the holdover instead of having to use a range card? I just label the wheel with my holdovers at different focus distances and I do not range the actual yardage and have to look at a cut sheet. Focus on the target, read the holdover and shoot.

Another 1st place finish at NRL22 today for your ol' pal Air Shootist! ;)

This morning I headed out to Aurora Sportsman's Club to shoot the July NRL22 event - in the airgun division, of course!
It was a fun day with lots of extremely experienced competitors, I saw many $5k+ rimfire rifles out there. Anywho, came in 1st for airgun, 4th overall. Not bad! That's my 4th NRL22 Airgun 1st place in a row using the FX Panthera .22 600mm with .218 30 grain Patriot Javelin slugs!

Oh, also - the jersey seen here will soon be available at www.myhighpressureair.com! It won't have your name on it like mine does but it's still super dope, and of course it is because I designed it!

Here are some pics!

Anyone else shooting the NRL22 matches? They are super fun and if you're thinking about getting into it, just do it! After my first one in March (which I was nervous for) I felt right at home at every subsequent event!

Thanks to FX, High Pressure Pneumatics, Kraford & Lypt, Aurora Sportsman's Club, and the NRL22 for all they do!

Too much time

Weather is HOT so in the comfort of my air conditioning I installed two high quality Butt plates from PRS on my Daystate Redwolf and Daystate Revere. Then I got brave or stupid and put a similar adjustable butt plate from England on my Air Arms TX 200. Mission accomplished.
I can honestly say that projects like these make me miss all the bells and whistles my ol woodshed used to have.

Pulled the trigger in Baton Rouge , La.

Greetings, new to the forum from down south Louisiana. Been building and running 1: 10 scale rc cars and trucks for 10 + years. Last year, I bought a Stoegr break barrel rifle and 2weeks later I was able to get me a Gamo Urban with a hand pump. For 2 months it was good until I couldn't air it up. Just sat there a entire year until I watched a few videos on shooting and pest control . And just like that I started planning out the next gun as well as a compressor. In the meantime , I must have read a ton of articles on how to fix the Urban, videos on YT and use of the forum here has allowed me to fix my gun on my own .

I stand here, in my right state of mind ready to sell off the majority of my rc cars and trucks to fully submerge myself into this awesome hobby and sport...I look forward to a great learning opportunities and meeting great ,like minded individuals. Have a great day and go shoot something........

Into other expensive hobbies ?

I've been looking for a 1933 or 34 Ford coupe for a while now. I want a driver not a show car, so I've been pretty specific, hence, not finding one yet.
Until I ran into this, little gem. 1/10th scale, RC car. Full suspension and all. Hmmm, that's all I need, is another expensive hobby !

Superlube synthetic grease for pcp innards

I've watched all the FX masterclass videos with Ernest Rowe, where he is using the SL syn grease (not silicone SL). Also I've seen other sites selling SL for pcp rifle lubing where the photo shows syn grease and the description says silicone? With all the confusion I was wondering if the syn grease is ok for hpa? I've seen confusing posts on this too.
So, what's the word on using syn grease?

FFP or SFP ?

I shoot primarily chipmunks and other small critters about that size with a .177 cal spring piston airgun. Most of my shots are 20 – 35 yards. It’s rare for me to shoot beyond that, though I do occasionally engage small critters as close as 2 or 3 yards.

I use a 3x9 power scope. I keep it at 9x, and only ever reduce the power level for very close shots where it is just not practical to keep it at 9x.

I’d like to have more magnification. I’m thinking of a 6x24 power scope. But which should I get – an FFP or SFP?

I like the idea of an FFP. I like the simplicity of it, that the holdover points remain the same throughout all magnifications.

But would it be practical for me to crank the magnification up on an FFP to 24x to engage a chipmunk at 35 yards? Often, all I can see is its head. Would the crosshairs become too thick to be practical in such situations?

The price difference between an FFP vs SFP is not really an issue in this case.

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

It came pre-zero’d?

Today I went to zero the Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x I installed on my .25 Panthera 600mm PRS gun.
You might remember, I had an Athlon Midas BTR gen2 4.5-27x when I shot the Oregon Long Range event, but shooting PRS NRL-22 type positional shooting is better to have an FFP scope than an SFP scope.
So I installed Ares ETR yesterday, and put the ScopeWerks turret on the scope with the scope tape I took from the Midas. Put the 50Y mark over the “0”, and I was done.
Today I took a position with the gun shooting at 80 yards at a large steel plate, probably 8 feet wide and 5 feet high. Very rusty. I picked out a mark near the middle of the plate, after dialing up from 50 to 80 yards on the turret.
Took the shot. BAM 💥 Right on the mark. Exactly on the mark. What the??? I’ve never had this happen before. No clicks required on elevation or windage. Freaky….

Hello from SoCal

Hello All,
I am new to the forum and just wanted to say hi.
I found my boyhood air rifle at my Dad's house and have set out to clean it up and use it.
It is a Hy-Score model 806 which I have learned is a Diana Model 22.
This has rekindled my interest in air rifles.
I am looking forward to learning and sharing with you all.
Thanks,
Mark

Muzzleloader replica

I want to get started on a project that's been in my head for a long time. I want to take a break barrel springer rifle and convert it into a tribute to an antique, Revolutionary war era muzzleloading firearm. The action will have to be restocked and the barrel shrouded with hexagonal tubing. I will pick up a cheap gun at the local pawn shop to begin with.

Looking for a small springer for a wheelchair shooter

My brother is in a wheelchair and he wants a small carbine type break barrel or underlever. He only has 3/4 use of the right arm and full use of the left arm. Is it possible to manufacture an air rifle barrel to fit a projectile?

What I am wanting to know is can you design and manufacture an air rifle barrel to suit a certain diameter projectile. Various reasons why I’d like to do it this way. Availability of slugs is an issue where I’m located.

The caliber is .25. The slug diameter is .2505.

I want to get a barrel maker to drill out a barrel, Im needing the drill bit size diameter.

I will also get a custom button die made up to cut the rifling. I also need the dimensions of the land and grooves for the button die.

I can’t import air rifle barrels from where I am. I can only get a local barrel maker to do this job.

FX Impact trigger too light

Hi everyone. Looking for some help.

I've just built a MK2 Impact and put a M3 trigger on it. I have adjusted the trigger as per all the tutorials, I like a two stage unit, which is what I have, but the 2nd stage is far too light....as soon as you get to the 2nd stage it's fired. I would guess it's a few ounces...rather like a set trigger on a PB.
I've tried all the adjustments with no luck. The articles I've read about lightening tye trigger all mention reducing the length of the trigger spring....would this conversely mean a stronger spring might give me a heavier trigger?. All the parts I've used are FX factory ones.

Can you shoot out an air gun barrel?

Now there’s an interesting question!

Was having a discussion today about barrel lifespans and shooting out an air rifles barrel.

Super hot powder burners like the 220Swift are well know to burn out barrels prematurely with their 4000fps velocities, a barrel might only last 2000 or even only 1000 rounds.

More modest calibures around the 2500 to 3000fps can see a barrel lasting for 5 to 10000 rounds, and I’ve heard of rifles shooting almost 15000 rounds before they needed a new barrel.
But powder burners have a few things working against their barrels that air rifles don’t.
High velocitys, heat build up, and corrosive gasses. You can probably add hard projectiles (think monolithics) to that list as well.

Air rifles shoot comparatively slow projectiles, made of soft conforming lead, seem to have no heat build up (or none that I’ve ever heard of?), and no corrosive, high pressure gasses.

So I ask the question, can you shoot out an air rifles barrel?
Have you ever heard of a shot out air rifle barrel?
What are your thoughts?
