A little experiment using my HW44

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I decided to shoot 2 groups of 5 shots each for all the better quality 177 pellets I currently have in stock. I shot straight from the tin/box with no sorting, except the JSB Match S100 which were already all sorted. I then took the average of each pair and documented those.

First the pellets I am shooting
IMG_2975.jpeg

Here are the target pairs.

IMG_2976.jpeg

The overall group size averages are:

Tied for smallest = JSB Exact 8.44 and H&N Baracuda FT 9.57 at 4.5mm
Second = FX 10.3 gn at 5.3mm
Third = RWS Superpoint 8.2 gn at 6.71mm
Fourth = JSB Match Premium Heavy 8.26 gn wadcutter at 7.1mm
Fifth = QYS green box wadcutters 8.18 gn at 7.58mm
Sixth = QYS red box Olympic wadcutters 8.18 gn at 8.16mm
Seventh = H&N Finale Match wadcutters 8.18 gn at 8.29mm
Eighth = JSB Match S100 wadcutters 8.18 gn at 9.64mm (Largest average group size and only batch that were sorted).

Take away from this experiment is that my particular HW44 prefers domed or pointed pellets over wadcutters. I doesn't seem to be fussy about weight or head size or sorting.

This was a fun exercise for me and helped me sort my pellet stash in my mind — stick with the three that give the smallest average sized groups. These have been my go-to pellets in the various challenges.

FX  Proposal to FX """""mainly"""", but for the benefit of other air rifle makers.

For any one that has the economic means to pay for US 1.5k - 2.3 k dollars for one of your rilfes, it would be the same to pay 100 - 150 dollars more if you could make a test on any rifle that you will send to the market to verify at 1000% at least the following:

- All pieces are dully tight.

- The rifle works properly.

- The rifle shots as accurately as you want your rifle to be identified.

- The rifle has no leaks at all.

- The trigger is tunned to works as light as possible but with absolutely security.

That way you could win a reputation of selling real quality rifles.

We as users would thank that, and such 100 - 150 extra dollars would have more value than the time, pellets and accesories we need to invest in an unfinished rifle to make it work properly.

That way we final users can clearly distinguish among a good purchase and a gamble.

Hello from Michigan

Hello everyone, my name is Greg, I go by woodtickgreg just about everywhere. I've been out of air gunning for awhile but I'm looking to get back into it. I have an old Sheridan bluestreak that needs to be revealed, not sure who can do that. And I have a brand new Nova Vista in the box that's never been shot that I want to sell. I purchased the wrong gun. I'm looking to get a weirauch hk97 at some point. I'm looking forward to learning from you all. I wish I would have found this forum before I purchased the Nova, not that it's a bad gun it's just not what I really wanted. I'm not a pcp type guy. I like pumps and springers, I know wierd. But it's what I shot in my youth and it's affordable as a hobby.
Thanks for having me gang.

FX  FX Dreamline ST Elite - Tunning Help

Hello there! I have an almost a month old FX Dreamline Saber Tactical Elite Model of .22 caliber. Out of the box, the Settings were 120Bar/Medium/17 (Regulator/Front Adjuster/Hammer Tension). I am using only 15gr and 18gr pellets and i think i am already on maxout of my settings and they are still below the 910fps recommended. Could you please see if i have to touch the regulator pressure now but on videos on youtubes some are already having even below 120bar Reg pressure but getting higher velocities.

Here are my Chrono Results adjusting only the Hammer for now:

@15.89gr JSB Hades
120Bar/Medium/17
823fps or 251mps

@15.89gr JSB Hades
120Bar/Medium/21
880fps or 268mps

@15.89gr JSB Hades
120Bar/Medium/23
900fps or 274mps

using heavier grain:

@18.13gr HN Baracuda
120Bar/Medium/17
816fps or 249mps

@18.13gr HN Baracuda
120Bar/Medium/23
850fps or 259mps

Hatsan  Hatsan MOD 65 Gotta Go

OK, so I bought this gun a few weeks ago and I just can not get it to group. Sometimes 2 or 3 pellets will hit really close then the next several pellets are up to several inches off. I've tried holding it loose, tight, resting on my fore arm and nothing seems to help. I've tried the included scope, a Center Point and Hawke. I may take the scope off and try the iron sights and see how that does. I can't return so I'm stuck with it, plus it gets hard to cock after a while, I can shoot the HW50s and R0 for a hour and not get fatigued. May just take it to a pawn shop and see what they'll give me for it and order another R9 in .22. May give it to my son or nephew.
I took my .177 Beeman R9 out there and stacked a few pellets almost in the same hole.

New CO2 Air Rifle from Crosman

Howdy all! Anyone have any personal experience yet with the new version of the venerable Crosman 1077 CO2 airgun (1077 Tactical) now being advertised on the Crosman website? I'm interested in general discussion about/impressions of/concerns about the new air rifle, whether based only on what's available online, or even better, personal experience (having actually seen the beast), or best of all, having been able to pick one up, examine it, check it out (weight, handling, shooting, etc.); that sort of thing. If interested, your contribution would be very much appreciated.

For example: I'd be INCREDIBLY impressed if this 'new and improved,' tactical version (tactical? ewwwwww, ahhhhhh, ohhhh, etc. <grin>) outperformed one, most, all or none of the earlier versions, or actually comes anywhere near the 780fps advertised, since that's about the same oomph as what I'm (supposed to be) getting out of my Umarex 850 M2 (purportedly suitable for small game hunting). Based solely on the penetration into my homemade pellet traps (repeatedly stuffed with about twenty-five 14"x19" cardboard sheets assembled out of what I salvage from the boxes in which online stuff ordered by my wife and I arrives), my 1077W doesn't come anywhere even close to matching the sheet penetration I get out of my 850M2. Actually, I doubt my 850M2 is shooting even lead-free alloy H&N Baracuda Green pellets (my indoor ammo) at almost 800fps. Are the changes from the earlier 1077 models solely cosmetic, or IS there some notable boost to performance (or handling, or anything else) with the 1077 Tactical?

I hope to hear from y'all, so many thanks!

- Bubba

Beeman  My new ( somewhat) R7

I bought this Air Venturi stamped Beeman R7 last year and was planning on posting some
pics then but had lots going on in my life. Paid $303 to my door for it. Just got the BKL one
piece droop mount that did require modification as the turret block on my Hawke 4-32 scope was
hitting the top of the mount. Which is common with this BKL mount. Next I'd like a rear sight
cover to cover the screw holes and the unsightly pin. Probably look for a muzzle brake
as well. Nice shooter and the R7's are very pleasant to shoot. Strong shooter as well.
