New Year Superstitions, do you have any?

Hello everyone,

Being an ole country boy from East I have been cooking up all of the various ingredients to meet some Old Time Superstitions that I was born and raised with all my life.

First thing is for Health and Well Being for the new year my folks always had a big pot of Blackeyed Peas and this morning I cooked up two pounds :p.

The second thing is for Financial Success for the new year we always had Fried Ground Pork wrapped with Mustard Greens and that is next up on my cooking today 😁.

Even if these ole superstitions don’t work, it sure does offer a mess of good eating 😋😋😋.

Happy New Year everyone 🍾

Scope Decision Guide: "You can't always get what you want!" —— Scope Performance Triangle #1

When I shop for anything, I WANT IT ALL!!❗
E.g.: I want a full size SUV,
that gets at least 40 miles a gallon,
that I can drive at high velocities through steep turns in our crazy city of 11.000,
and that drives at least 300.000 miles without any major problems,
and costs under $20.000 new.

You laugh.
I cry.
When I buy a car.
And when I buy scopes.

BECAUSE:
You can't always get what you want!

➠ I need to decide on my priorities when buying a scope.
Because I can't always get:
➊ High magnification, and
➋ Wide field of view, and
➌ Compactness (light, short).

🔴 The following diagram illustrates this and can help you weigh your own priorities — in order to make a better scope purchase — a sort of scope purchase decision guide (for these 3 aspects only).

If you increase 1 of the 3 scope characteristics mentioned above, the other 2 will diminish....

❓ What questions do you have?
How can I improve this? 😊

FX  I give up on this STX barrel and slugs

I have a .25 700 STX Superior with a 1:24 twist that shoots JSB 33g pellets exceptionally. It can't shoot a NSA .249 26.8gr slug with any accuracy. 25 yard group sizes are over an inch. I've shot them from 900FPS all the way to 1023 FPS in 10 FPS increments and they won't group well at any speed. Each FPS increment test I shot at least a full mag starting with my hammer spring tension at 4.5 and lowering it until I saw the FPS start dropping. I shot down to 2.5 HS tension is many runs to make sure I wasn't destabilizing the slug from turbulent air behind the slug. Nothing was really making dramatic improvements. Pretty much it would shoot 1 to 3 flyers on a 5 shot group.

I was thinking, #%$, did one of my kids knock my gun off the table when I was inside and put it back with a busted up scope or what? So I put it back on the pellet port and pellet tune and shot 100 rounds of pellet perfection. WTF is wrong with this barrel?

NOTE: The moderator was removed to rule out clipping. I was frustrated and not giving a dam what the neighbors were thinking LMFAO. Every screw was just checked with a torque driver. Nothing could have been moving around.

FX  Impact M3 bottles getting really hard to screw on

Anyone else have the issue of air bottles getting really tight to screw on/off? To the point where I start to worry about the amount of torque I'm putting on the bottle itself. Mind, I'm still screwing the on with bare hands but especially if you can't get a good grip, for example when screwing on a 480cc bottle with a saber bipod rail extender, it takes all the grip strength I have to get it on or off. The higher the pressure in the bottle, the bigger the issue.

I've tried cleaning the threads both on the gun and inside the bottle, tried lubricating the threads with a light coat of silicone grease (I've since learned that that is not a good for threads under pressure, and it was cleaned off using alcohol), tried lubing the threads with a small application of copper grease, but nothing seems to work. Anyone else has this problem or knows a solution?

EVOL gets another Crow

Shot this crow at 109 yards out hay mow doors left handed. Set up a crow decoy and my foxpro out in the pasture, called in a murder. 44 grain Hades sacked him good but he needed a follow up. My plenum came and once I use up the hades I’m going to set it up for 68 grn slugs from an NOE mold. It already shoots the cast slugs well but at 700fps with current tune. Hades are at 875.

What comes around goes around. 28 years later… start of the build of my first born air rifle..

28 years ago I ventured into AIRGUNS with my first rifle.. RWS 34. ( Diana imported by RWS) , green I was but I went ahead and fastidiously found the ways of the break barrel world. What started off a chain reaction of massive events was this very gun. The Diana 34 T01 . I shot a lot of game with that old girl.. it was .177 and then I could see them to load them .. Well yesterday I acquired a Dianna classic 34 T06 , in .22 . I’ve always missed the old platform but many Webley‘s and German guns later, as well as building my own platforms. I have decided to make a welcome back special edition 34.

To celebrate this it will be re blued , machined breech to match chamber and custom tuned as well as shrouded and new bespoke stock. I made a pattern for the platform 16 years ago for another individual.
I look forward to working on the old platform as well as the new T06 trigger. I will be adding many mods to this. First stage set screw adjustable travel screw( thanks Lewis mod) . Lighter rear sear spring and blade curve adjustment .

Here is the new starter rifle

It will now be referred to as “The scorpion”

I’ll post results when finished as I have 11 guns I’m working on. I’m finalizing 2 mean HW 80 builds , I’ll post later as well as a Hw95 and the Thunderbird build .

PCP Rifle  SOLD FX Crown MKII with synthetic stock and three barrels .22 380mm / .25 380mm / .25 500mm

'SOLD pending receipt of payment'

Here's another great deal. For sale is a new FX Crown MKII air rifle with synthetic stock purchased at the end of 2023. It comes installed with a .22 cal 380mm STX Superlight barrel with a screw-on end cap. It also includes a new .25 cal 380mm STX Superlight barrel kit ($300 new) with end cap, as well as a new .25 cal 500mm super light barrel kit. Both of the barrel kits were purchased this month from Utah airguns. I also have an empty 600mm shroud (not shown in pictures, just an empty shroud) which I can include as well. I didn't get any clipping when briefly testing a 350mm barrel with the 600mm shroud, the extra empty space in the longer shroud just made it quieter.

The sale also includes 2 new Eagle Vision magazines ($115 each), one in .22 cal and the other in .25 cal. Plus 2 new FX Crown magazines in .22 cal and 1 new FX Crown magazine in .25 cal. No mod, rings, or scope - no scope was ever mounted on it. All items in this sale are shown in the attached pictures. The rifle looks new because it is essentially new, except for a few test magazines through the installed .22 cal 380 mm barrel to see how it sounds and functions.

Price for everything shown reduced to $1,350, which includes shipping within the continental US.

The retail replacement cost for all items would be over $2,500 before tax and shipping.

Everything functions perfectly. It is surprisingly lightweight, the side arm works smoothly, and it is reasonably quiet, especially when using the longer shroud over a shorter barrel. I was happy to have finally had an opportunity to own an FX airgun after having heard so much about them. But after putting together this fine kit I ultimately decided that I prefer semi-auto actions.

PayPal only. No counter offers or trades accepted on this one, I'm selling off my few remaining airguns over the next few months. I can get to UPS within three days of receipt of payment and will post the tracking info for the shipment as soon as I get it myself.

If you want to purchase, send me a PM and I'll reply with my PayPal address.

Thanks for looking.

Airgun educational reading martial

I'm relatively new to the world of airguns and am looking for resources to educate myself. I own an Air Venturi Avenger in 22cal and understand the basics of running it for performance, ergo adjusting my hammer spring and shot pressure to get a balance of performance both in accuracy and shot count. I want to learn more. Are there any good books on deeper forms of tuning, through springs, changing of components, barrel enhancements... also covering other modifications of airguns. I'm looking to learn all I can about these guns in all forms not just pops. Thanks in advance for any help with this endeavor.

Just fun

I recently acquired an impact mk3 compact in 177 from a fellow member robster.
Great guy to buy from BTW. Anyway I threw some glass on loaded mags and proceeded to have a blast plinking away over a couple days I’ve made my way through a full tin of 10.3 fx pellets. This is my 4th impact purchase, but 1st compact and 177
I have had so much more fun with this than any other gun by leaps and bounds. Why is this? I think it’s tiny and extremely efficient.
We my son and I are literally shooting orange tic tacs hot glued to wooden skewer sticks. Purchased from dollar store
Started at about 25 yrds. To easy. 50 yrds to easy moved to 100 yrds just out right fun. Takes 2-3 shots to hit at the 100 yrd distance. Best air gun purchase to date.

Wow...can't believe how much harder 50m is over 50y.

Well, not really...but those that embrace the metric system would really like you to believe it is. 😀 The Wrabf cards are a little harder, but I've been staying close enough to the middle that it's not very different over the N5O cards since the X is the same size.

749 53x Missed one. 🙁 Light wind mostly.

N/A  Newbie backyard PCP for pesting

Hi all - brand new to the forum. Moved to a small avocado farm (~2ac) about a year ago here in Southern Californistan, and realized a couple months back that we have a rodent problem around our chickens. Handled them with a pump action BB rifle until I got my son a Gamo .177 breakbarrel at TSC a couple months back, and now I’m fixated on getting a *real* air rifle and an IR scope to do this right. :)

I’ve been leaning toward a BRK Ghost in .25 and a Pard NV008, so’s I could handle rats, skunks, and trash pandas as the need arises. I’d like to stay under $3,000 all in. I’ve also been very tempted by Benjamin P-Rods in .22, as most shots I’ve been taking around our trees are under 10yds. I also know that I’m brand new to this whole field, so I might be missing something crucial or not understanding some aspect that I ought to be considering. Hence, this post.

What would y’all recommend to someone in my boat? All the lots around us are similarly sized, so a barrel shroud is probably all the noise moderation I need from a neighborly standpoint. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas!

Pcp compressor exploded

My very first thought was well.. what's next?

IMG-20230924-WA0003.jpg

The honorable mention goes to Tuxing single piston compressor. The 2nd one..

Sum of my story:
Cheap handpump lasts 2months-imploded
1st tuxing lasts 1year 2months-lost compression
2nd tuxing lasts 6months-exploded
Double cylinder tuxing lasts 2months-spits oil at breather

Set-up:
Admission filter- dissecant
Compressed air filter-foam+triple tuxing filter
Additional one way valve before triple filter
6.9L 300bar bottle

Quick advice- don't ever let your body parts near working under pressure parts. Could have ended with some red stain. Just have an extension cord and unplug from far away for a better fear factor.
I always observe the filling procedure and i heard the noise of the motor starting to go down so instictly pressed the off switch as fast as possible. If i happened to put my arm over the piston some cuts and bruises were in order.

So after buying the double cylinder one and it started building pressure on the crankcase and spitting oil from the breather. I knew that either i had to learn how to fix these or buy a 1000+ eur compressor. I am a poor guy so didn't even had to think about an excuse to give the wife. Learn something new it is.

Started by cleaning and replacing the 1st single piston one's every seal. = Still no high pressure

Swaped one way valves from the 2nd (exploded one) to the 1st. = Still no pressure

While changing parts i noticed that newly replaced high pressure segments were leaking.
IMG_20231221_105905.jpg

The temporary solution was this.
IMG_20231222_152548.jpg

Inserted by hand the drag seemed fine. Still going strong for 1month to top up until i machine a new high pressure piston to replace the very gappy old one.

So, full of confidence i went to disassemble the double piston compressor and here is what i found wrong:
IMG_20231221_161445.jpg

IMG_20231221_162145.jpg
IMG_20231221_155328.jpg

Replaced those 2 screws with anti corrosion coated new ones. Replaced HP segments and overall cleaning. Happy ever after.

Now here is when i ask for opinions for why do you think the 2nd compressor exploded.
My thoughs are it was caused by a VERY stuck high pressure one way valve that was full of carbon (black) particles just like in the double cylinder. The oil i use is has the manual asks (iso100). The truth is that in every of the three these particles were present.

What i intend to do once the oil gets dark is to replace it with another one.
I live in Portugal and that purple royal is not available locally but if any alternative is suggested i will look into it thanks in advance.

And by the way i controlled temperatures of the water and at the time of explosion it was a cool summer night.

Why they last such a few time? Well i guess i shoot a lot.. and experiment a lot.. in fact so much i managed to damage one of my rifle's bottle screw and had to make a stainless insert
IMG_20231107_073620.jpg

IMG_20231107_073642.jpg

but nevertheless i only top the bottles since i got the double cylinder for 5min runs.

If you're a broke like me, don't give up on these compressors but definitely treat them like the enemy. CLEAN those valves has frequently has you feel comfortable and never get your head close to them! Signs of spitting oil at the breather are a immediate STOP sign.

Cheers
Happy shooting

N/A  New prototype.

I've been kicking thus idea around in my head for quite some time now. It's a 30 caliber (308 to be exact.) The barrel on it now is a 7.62 blank so it's not going to stay on it, hence why it is shorter than the tank. My goal is to make affordable yet powerful PCP's for the market and this design makes it quick and easy to manufacture them. I still have a ways to go but it won't be much longer before I'm test firing it.

PCP Rifle  SOLD Edgun Leshiy 2 .22 cal with 250mm barrel, 350cc tank, REPR regulator, 4 magazines & a speed loader

** SOLD **

For sale is an Edgun Leshiy 2 in .22 cal with a 250mm barrel, 350cc tank, REPR regulator, 4 pellet magazines, and a speed loader. I used to shoot paper targets with it once in a while when I first got it a couple of years ago but never used it very much after that. A few months ago I sent it to Edgun West for a full ~$350 tuneup to ensure that everything is working correctly. It is very compact, especially when folded, reasonably quiet, and the semiauto action is a pleasure to shoot.

The sale includes four .22 cal standard pellet magazines (~$90 each), an orange magazine holder, the small magnet used for removing the face plates from the magazines, and a couple of fill probes. Also included is a very useful speed loader that holds 6 magazines worth of pellets. With that speed loader, you can refill an empty magazine in a single action without needing to remove the magazine from the rifle. I'll also include the adjustment wrench for the REPR, and a small pressure gauge which can be screwed into the side of the regulator. Personally, I usually adjusted the reg pressure based on the resultant chrony readings for different pellets. No external mod or rings or scope with this one. Everything included is clearly shown in the attached photos.

Leshiy2s come up frequently for sale in different configurations. This is the most compact format, with the short 250mm barrel and the original oval shroud. The modular design makes it very easy to swap parts and to change calibers. The current retail replacement cost for these items would be about $3,000 before tax and shipping.

My asking price is $1,850, which includes shipping within the continental US. PayPal only, no counter offers or trades accepted on this one, I'm getting out of airguns over the coming year and will usually have multiple ads up for different airguns until they all finally sell. I can usually get to UPS within three of days of receipt of payment and will post the tracking info for the shipment as soon as I get it myself.
This is a very good deal on an excellent airgun.

If you want to purchase, send me a PM and I'll reply with my PayPal address.
I'll take replies in the order received and will sell to the first solid offer to buy.

Thanks for looking.

IMG_20231230_111923656_HDR.jpg

Printed this dovetail rail on my resin printer.

IMG_20231230_111843128_HDR.jpg

The attachment for the sling is off the shelf.

IMG_20231230_111904108_HDR.jpg

The rail attachment epoxies into place. It could be modified to use screws and a screw plate.

IMG_20231230_113239436_HDR.jpg

The front sling mount is off the shelf as well.

The rifle is tuned to shoot JSB 15.89 . 20 caliber at 850 fps for 25 fpe. It is very flat shooting. The LASER is mounted for the close shots with zero at about 8 yards. POI with the LASER is +/- an inch between 3 and 18 yards. I'll write more about this rifle later.

FX  BC tensioner...

I see Bullet central sells the tensioner and shroud separately. I have the Maverick 700mm and was looking at maybe adding a tensioner but here is the question. I see these are sold separately so do yo have to buy both or does the FX shroud work over the BC tensioner? I don't see anything mentioned on their website about needing both. I thought I saw a longer air stripper but maybe that was with the shroud itself? EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the barrel sub...
