Stoeger  XM1 Bullshark .177

So I ordered one of these from Rich at Airgun Revisions and should be here this week. Topping it off with a Discovery 2-12x24 HD scope. Plan is to tune it lower around 10-12fpe for a sub 50yd critter gitter. Weight seems pretty good at around 6.5lbs, length is nice and compact with a working shroud around 27", power seems to have way more than I'd ever want if I went for a higher power tune down the line, and forward cocking will be nice for quick follow up shots.

Anything to look out for for these airguns? The reviews I have watched so far seem to be pretty positive and they seem to do well out of the box. I'm not expecting amazing accuracy if I can hold sub 1" groups out to 45yds I'd be happy.

Umarex  Is Your Notos Upgraded or Out the Box?

I’ve read with mucho interest the great reviews and reception the airgunning community has given the Notos. At its price point and performance level OTB its seems a definite winner. It has become a modders delight and all types of iterations keep popping up. I recently inquired in one of the threads as to the actual costs of one of these modded up Notos, including the price of the gun? Two posters confirmed close to 1K. Spending over $700 USD to mod up a under $300 PCP?🙈🫣🙄 At the 1K price point, a lot of other options are available, especially if buying used. My question is… Is “your” Notos an OTB good shooter.? Or did you mod it up for more accuracy, cosmetics, etc.? And if so, how much over the price of the gun have you invested? My impression is that the Notos is a good OTB PCP and should be capable on small pests and targets out to 40 yards as is. Am I mistaken or missing something?

What do you do with the quarry you’ve taken down?

I’m curious about what happens to your kills once the dust settles. Do you burn it, bury it, or give it a new purpose?

Here in the UK, we enjoy rabbits and wood pigeons (and my personal favourite, collared doves, though they’re now off the legal menu). Some folks eat squirrels, but not me—I send corvid feathers and squirrel tails to a fly-fishing merchant.

Is it similar across the pond? You shoot a wide variety of quarry, and I’d love to know what you do with it. I’ve heard iguanas are often turned into leather goods or eaten, which I find quite fascinating.

Decoys??

Have been looking at getting my son out more for pigeons and crows. While we have been looking around my son has been on the tube of you and has found that our British brothern typically use decoys for these birds.

That got me to wondering if any of you guys here in the states uses decoys? And if you do, which ones do you use? And how successful have you been when using decoys?

Reliable Site to Buy Umarex Notos

Can someone recommend a reliable site to purchase an Umarex Notos? I'm not going to name names, but I recently purchase an Umarex Notos from a site and the rifle turned out to be a lemon after less than 10 shots. Is it normal that the rifle box doesn't come with a sticker seal? The rifle had "used" vibes to it. It was also suspicious that on my account on their web site that there was no easy way to return the rifle. No return button. Nothing. It took an email and a phone call to finally return the rifle.

My experience with Gamo, on the other hand, was excellent. Easy return with no questions asked. I wish they sold the Notos. Does Gamo have a similar PCP to the Notos in the same price range? It is extremely important that the rifle is quiet.

Air Arms  Smooth Shooting Springer ? Do They Exist ?

Years ago, I discovered PCP's, and sold off the springers that I owned.
I have not shot a spinger in many years, and I am wondering if anything has changed, over the last 15 or 20 years?
Has there been any major advancements, in the recoil of springers?
What about the newer Nitro pistons?
Was it just hype, or are the nitro pistons really an improvement?

Also, are the Air Arms TX, and HW 97 still reguarded as great shooting spingers, and how do they rate today, as far as recoil is concerned?
Thanks in advance.

HW/Weihrauch  New WH30 problems

I would appreciate a bit of help here as sort of hit the wall.
I recently purchased a new WH30s and so far it has been a very frustrating process, probably the worst shooting gun I’ve ever owned . The problem is there are sudden drastic shifts in the horizontal POI ? It’s as if the power is suddenly cut in half?
The barrel was cleaned, and all the stock screws were torque to specs . However, at 23 yards the best group I could get were quarter inch by 12 inches. Yep , 12 inches. Some groups of 10 shots were spread out 18 inches horizontally. I probably put about 300 shots through it . I assumed it must of had a bad piston seal or maybe a faulty spring. The breech seal looked as a new one should . I disassemble the gun and hoped to recognize a problem.
There was a slight flat spot on the piston seal , wasn’t overly lubed . There was very little initial desilling .
I remove the factory grease and re-lube very lightly, I Install a new Vortek spring and Vortech piston seal. Unfortunately the same issues persisted. It would feel great for the first 16 or 20 shots and then a pellet would almost just roll out the barrel and fall on the floor. Crosman 7.9 doomed were actually getting stuck half way down the barrel. The real confusing part was on paper after shooting it over my chrono,it should’ve been an absolute laser of a rifle. JSB, 8.44 shot an average of 620 ft./lbs, standard deviation of 1.55 and an extreme spread of 3.2. I’ve never seen numbers like that before in any of my guns which include a TX200, , AA Pro sport, two Diana 54’s, WH50, , R9 and WH 97k. I did test and shoot a number of quality pellets with somewhat similar results. Something* just doesn’t add up here.
It seems to shoit great for a little while and then the whole bottom drops out. I took it apart again and thought maybe the vortex seal was too tight however it was pushing out 7.2 foot pounds which is probably what it should. I remove the vortex seal and put in a new WH 30 seal. I can tell you that Vortex seal is a serious piece of rubber. Even after having the pistons sit in a cup of boiling water for about 10 minutes , the Vortek did not come off easy.
The latest version which was today, the gun actually seems to be shooting surprisingly good. One thing I did discovered from all the tear downs was that the pivot bolt appears to get loose very quickly . This is one thing that I never checked and unless looking for it, would not know it. Maybe that was causing the drastic horizontal shift of the POI? I hope so. I should find out in the next couple of days as I shoot an hour every day. I’m actually nervous to shoot the gun again as if it’s not, I don’t know what else to do.
if I missed something or if somebody has any other ideas I would love to hear them.
Thanks
Al
