Lead Removal

A friend of mine gave me a spray can of "Sprayon" THE PROTECTOR ALL-POURPOSE LUBRICANT, PRODUCT NO. LU711. He claims that this is the best lead remover that he has ever seen (cast bullet firearms). I'm wonder if this is OK to use in air rifles with the "O" rings? Here is the list of ingredients as best as I can make them out. Mineral Spirits (64742-88-7), Heavy Paraffinic Oil (64742-52-5), 2-Butoxyethanol (111-76-2), Glyceryl Oleate (25496-72-4), Carbon Dioxide (124-38-9), Naphthenic OIL64741-97-5).

I am not familiar with this product and the chemicals that make it up. It might be the best ever for removing lead or it might eat "O" rings faster that you can replace them. If anybody has any idea, I would like to hear about it!

What Prevented you from Shooting Today?

I know that a lot of you shoot daily. We look forward to pesting or blasting holes in targets or game.
We have high hope just before we set out to our locations, bringing all the gear we think might be nescessary for the day
But somedays, it just wasn't meant to happen.

I had packed up my car with my benchrest gear and 2 rifles and a tank to head off to the range for a full day of practice
I have recently purchased a new front rest which i am still getting used to, and changed the rear bag set-up
I get to the range and i have it to myself...i am thinking this is GREAT!
I unpack the front rest and get it set...move the rear bags to line-up with the front.
I used a piece of timber as a block for my rear rest that has a neoprene bottom to prevent slipping that i just made.
The night before, i had throughly cleaned-polished-waxed the barrel, so i was anxious to see the results.
Empty range-new gear-fresh polished barrel...i am thinking this is a Wonderful day!

My first couple of shots was to groove out the wax with the pellets, so it took about 10 shots..a bit scattered, but not bad
After the 10 shots, the barrel was seasoned and performing! 11 and 12 were bullseyes on the 10 ring
Happy as a Clam!!
I noticed that i was getting low on air, so i grabbed my tank...turned the knob and got a blast of air in my face...puzzling
i checked and 2x checked to be sure all the lines were attached .. turned the knob again ..blast in the face
After removing the lines, i found that the foster fitting looked like this ... don't know when that happened
IMG_0256.jpeg

All I knew was that was the end of my session…12 shots and had to pack it up
never thought to keep an extra fitting in my kit, but I will now

Any other tales of Woe anyone would like to share?
Mike

Accessories  NLA Wildcat Original Stock - ***PRICE LOWERED WAY DOWN!***

Today I am selling my used FX Wildcat Original Stock with custom paint job for $100.00...which includes free shipping anywhere in the CONUS insured at full value. I will accept payment via PayPal Friends & Family, or you pay the overage if you choose to send the funds via PayPal “Goods and Services.”

This stock has been repainted with a two part epoxy automotive paint in a Satin Finish, which results in a scratch proof durable almost bullet proof finish...instead of a high gloss shine it just sort of glows as if lit from within. As you can see from the photos below it has a picatinny rail on the bottom, a sling stud at the rear, and has black felt "bedding" inside the front of the inletting. The bottom of the hand grip and the bottom of the buttpad have been sanded down so it sits perfectly level all by itself...and I attached bicycle inner tube rubber to the bottom of the handgrip & buttpad to make it non-slip. It sits perfectly with an Atlas bipod's legs extended at 45 degrees!

So if you have been thinking about replacing the old beat up stock on your FX Wildcat Original this is perfect for you. Utah sells this item for $350 retail.
All the best, Chuck Peffley

Snowpeak  Artemis PP800R - How do I reduce to ~500 fps and tune for more shots?

I recently picked up an .177 Artemis PP800R, because it is supposed to be regulated versus the unregulated Diana Bandit.

When I shot it with Crosman 7.4gr pellets, I'm getting about 6-7 shots at around ~800 fps consistently, but then after that the pressure gauge hits yellow (100 bar) and then the FPS decreases linearly until about shot 21, when there isn't enough air to push the pellet out the barrel.

I already tried tuning the built in regulator setting by taking off the pressure gauge and turning the screw clockwise, but if I turn it too far down, the gun will stop working entirely (seems like the regulator valve will close off completely if screwed in too far). So the lowest FPS i'm able to tune it to is 750 PSI before it stops working. This leaves me around 8 shots at 750 fps, and 23-24 shots before running out of air.

My goal is fps ~450-500 fps, that way I can shoot indoors without it being too loud, and hopefully get a lot more than just 7-8 shots.

How do I further reduce the FPS? I'm thinking of cutting coils off the hammer spring, but how do I make sure I don't accidentally go too far? Are there replacement parts like a different regulator valve that will bring me closer to 500 fps? Or a tighter transfer port?

Thanks in advance, graph from my testing is below, gaps are from chronograph no-reads

Black Yong Heng oil

My 4 year old Yong Heng turns RP then switched to Seco Lube 500, black, after an hour or so. Other users reported their oil does not turn black. Well, been so dang hot I have not used the Yong Heng for the last two months. Lol, the Seco oil is now clear after sitting so poured it off and cleared the remaining black sludge. I had tried a coffee filter but just made the coffee taste like crap early on last year.

Sorry if this covered in many back posts. Pump still makes good pressure but have collected parts for rebuild when non cooled garage below 98F. I'll stay on high temp rated oil from rebuild on... Cheers.

PCP Rifle  NLA FX Maverick Sniper. 30 caliber FT/FS

Like the title says, have a maverick sniper in .30 cal .Bought the gun in February or early March this year. It has the slug power kit installed by Utah Air while it was in for warranty(regs wouldn't go over 100 bar, it's fixed) 1:22 liner that it came with. Carbon fiber fx sleeve and hard case. Excellent condition. Only shot from bench. NSA 54.5 grain slugs 905fps, 44 grain pellets faster than they need to be.found out I'm not an FX guy. I don't want to fiddle and tinker every time I take it out. PM me for more details or search for some of my post here to see my thoughts on this. Anywho I like Taipan, AGT, BRK.Open to other high end rifles as well, .25 caliber.. A compact might be cool, most of my current collection are long guns. The gun was $1800+ so if you're interested your offer should have cost close to the same.
I'll get more, better pictures up tomorrow. Rob

New Member

Hi All!

New member here from Southern California. Growing up I used to shoot a lot with my dad in the garage with a Crosman drifter. Now I feel like I want to get back into it and hopefully join 10m pistol competitions, but doing a quick google search I may have trouble with that latter part being in California. Hope I'm wrong about that and hope to lean on the community to learn about this great sport

What type of o ring to use to seal gauages on guns?

Hello. I have an fx impact. It was leaking so I used leak detector to find the leak. It was coming from the front gauge. I replaces with an normal black o rings. It stopped the leak but after 3 days it started to leak from the same gauge. So I checked and the o ring I just replaced was already crushed and damaged. I guess normal o rings will not work. I know Yong heng compressor don't use o rings to seal, they use white hard plastic type disc to make the seal. So for my impact gauge. Do I use o rings or white plastic disc to make the seal? It seem the rubber black o rings get crushed too easily by the pressure.

Taipan  Well, I've gone and done it...

Well, I've gone and done it...
As much as I love my Taipan Veteran Long, I've always thought it's a bit too long especially since I have it tuned to only around 31 FPE. I do love the shot count, but as a standby varmint rifle I rarely needed that many shots at a time. As a backyard rifle though shooting out of the window most of the time (sometimes at odd angles), the length is a big deal. I've slogged through deciding on the length when I bought the Long and years later I'm still thinking about it. I figured if I'm going to get the standard length, now is the time since they're getting harder to find. I don't know but this Talon Tunes restock last month might be one of the last ones they get. The red stock is not my first choice, but it's the only one left and I'm putting it on the tactical stock anyways.

Of course I get it in my favorite caliber .22 so now I don't know if I'm keeping the Long version or selling it. 😅

UX notos, Artemis m60, or AGT Vixen?

I'm looking to get something that's lower on power than most gun, preferably compact but I have found that most of those offering are $1550 and higher and I'm wanting to stay in the $1200 or under category.

I want to keep it under fifty yards, as I have airguns that will do the work out to 200yds.

I would like a .177 but I don't mind using a .22 in this scenario, hence why I put the notos up. All of these are within the same power range, are about the same length, and there isn't much of a difference when it comes to noise levels from what I have gathered. The biggest difference between them all is the different price point and the amount of shots eor fill.

If anyone can chime in with their experiences I would appreciate it!
