Skout  Skout EVO debut!!

Got my new EVO the other day. Family obligations prevented immediately gratification with shooting and testing it! Then the weather turned dangerous around here! This past Saturday morning though, things were just right!

I threw the portable bench in the truck and all my other gear and scooted on over to my buddies place where I could stretch the EVO’s legs a bit! Okay-okay, some details; I got this one with the .22 LW 25” option which is a 1:15.7 non-choked bore. Acquired with hopes of shooting some .22 pellets and definitely some slugs.

Started with 25.39 MRD pellets to sight-in. Got on paper and the FX True BC Chrony told me I was shooting these way hot! Okay, same tune with slugs then…. I love Altaros CNC turned slugs. Not only are they amazingly consistent but they have crazy good ballistic coefficients (BCs) as well. What does a good BC translate to: down range retained energy, less drop and wind drift fighting 👊🏻‼️ The 40gr were the first to fly. Out of the box setting has these slinging at 875 fps. That’s actually a great speed for the Altaros as these boat-tail precision bullseye seekers don’t really like the speed other slugs do. Immediately and with a gleam in my eye, I saw these Toros and the LW bore were a match 😁 To 50 yards then. Clover ☘️ leaf 🧐 To 100 then. Bam 💥 1/2” 5-shot group. Now we’re cooking with gas baby!!

Went to the 32.3gr Toros and they performed very good, although, a bit hot at this tune (945 fps) I slowed them down and they did about the same. Not bad but not as precise as their bigger brother the 40gr! Back to pellets; adjusted tune further and tried 25.39gr MRDs at 970 fps ~ not good. Slowed fps more and they got a little better. Slowed again to 910 fps at 50 yards and they were okay. Switched to AEA 21.9gr and immediately improved. Upped speed with these to 950 fps and they got tight! Cleaned bore, which by the way, is super easy with the Skout! Pulled the barrel assembly and ran patches. Shot the 21.9gr AEA again and they seasoned right in. Shot this 5-shot group and that is my pinky for comparison.
IMG_3877.jpeg

One of my objectives with this setup is to shoot pellets at 50 yard benchrest. Okay, I feel good about that and have JTS 22.07gr coming from Pyramyd Air to try as well. They’ll deliver on Friday 1/3/25. Back to slugs……Retuned for 40gr Toros, this time at 895 fps, and I went straight to 100 yards. Cleaned bore again. I got several good results and then decided to staple a new target down range on my target box. Settled in on the EVO and smashed this 5-shot group:
IMG_3884.jpeg

I am STOKED!! My fun time had expired! I picked all up, loaded up the truck and headed to the house. After some chores I had to measure that 100 yard group with the 40gr Toros. Below is the result and some pictures of the EVO. I was shooting off bags and although pretty good and stable, shooting with bipod and rear Saber Tactical Pro Universal adjustable rest (mouth full), I must suspect will be even better. The portable bench does leave something to be desired. Can’t wait to hit a real range and solid concrete bench!! Stay tuned…….

FX  UPDATE My DRS Classic is Sporting Wood

Update 1/5/25 I did not realize this when I ordered it but the Form stock for the DRS has a 15 inch LOP with the fully adjustable buttstock, and a 14 ¾ inch LOP with the cheek riser only ! !
I had to remove the recoil pad to get to 14⅜ LOP.

I ordered a Form Laminated stock for my DRS 22 700 on November 26th and it arrived this morning.

I ordered it with an adjustable buttstock, cheek riser and Anschutz UIT rail.

The Kraford and Lypt picatinny t‐rail fits perfectly.

I might get this Arca rail .

Screenshot_20241230_094358_Chrome.jpg

The fit and finish is excellent.

20241230_083244.jpg

FX should seriously consider offering the DRS with this stock !

The Form stock might actually make it shoot more accurately, because the rifle actually fits me.

It definitely improved the looks and feel of the DRS !

N/A  CF Tank purchase advise needed! should i get the 700cc bottle plus the 6.8l tank or just the bottle and refill from car battery or maybe get 2x 700cc?

Hi guys

here is what i am thinking of buying for my dreamline lite .30 cal

please advise what is more practical- i guess i am trying to safe by not buying the big 6.8l tank and just fill my 700cc cf bottle direct from the tuxing at home or from the car battery..

would you rather (assuming you were getting the 700cc cf bottle like i do)

1. just get the 700cc bottle and refill it every time from the tuxing compressor at home or from battery car

2. get the 700cc bottle plus the 6.8l carbon tank and fill both with tuxing at home/car and/or chug along the heavy 6.8l tank to wherever you drive shooting (i know there is some air transfer loss between the 2 tanks)

3. get maybe 2x 700cc bottles and fill each at home with tuxing (or from the car) and swap them- its light and easy plus the tuxing does not have to work so hard (get hot) because it can fill each 700cc bottle fast and by the time the 700cc bottle is empty- the tuxing has cooled down.. i just need to wait few minutes every time to fill the 700cc bottle between shooting sessions

4. maybe you have another solutions that i missed?

PCP Rifle  NLA FX Impact M3 compact .25

a change in life priorities has led me to the incredibly difficult decision to sell my FX impact M3 .25 compact.

real atlas bt-10 bipod bought direct from B&T.

Feet posted in photos of Airguns.

Can anyone explain this? Why would anyone take a photo of their airgun, post in on a website, with their nasty looking feet in the photo?
The frequency with which it occurs is staggering.
Not only does the phenomena manifest itself here , but every gun site, airgun or powder burner, Worldwide.
Anyone?

Skout  Epoch problems.

The Epoch was shooting fine on Saturday, but today I went to the range, and it has started to be very inconsistent with pellet speed I am talking random 60-80fps jumps from shot to shot, and I had several pellets get stuck which shifted by removing the mag and repeatedly firing, and they were not double loads, the only thing I have noticed is that the supplied barrel liner after rodding several pellets through where very tight I normally use 4.51- 4.52 and even measured head size (with vernier) where 4.48 the pellets are very tight and came out very marked, the breach is very tight and so is the choke, however I'm not sure this is the root cause of the problem.

Just done a test at home and setup with chrono and every shot I take the pellet gets stuck only to be shifted on the second fire with the mag removed, I will add the temps here are around 5-8c at the moment and the gun hasn't yet warmed up I will repeat once it has and post back, but if anyone has any ideas? I have left Skout a PM and awaiting a reply.
And phoning from the UK is not ideal, apart from the time difference.

N/A  Which of your airguns would you choose for a 60yd target for only one shot?

Imagine this scenario... you have a very shy pest, and you think he's been spending a lot of time under your storage shed. Although, you've been waiting weeks/months to have an opportunity to fix the problem - from a distance of say 60ish yards.

Which airgun would you pick up knowing you will only get one quick-ish shot to hit your target? The point being... you would need to trust this airgun to hit a small target on the very first shot after possibly sitting for days or even a couple weeks.

Thanks!

EDIT: Skunk is the animal, but please don't let that stop you from posting about your unicorn .177 that has no loss in first-shot-velocity after a month ;-). Keep in mind I'm asking about "first shot point of impact" after the airgun has been idle for a while. I want to know what airguns will reliably hit a 1.00" circle @ 60 yards on the very first shot. That's not a high standard for accuracy or group size, but - one shot after sitting > 48 hours or better yet, a week or two.

PCP Rifle  NLA Daystate Revere Safari 177

I received it new in October 2023 from AoA. It has only been shot from bench, and not much. With a young kid and a love for my AAS200, it just doesn’t get shot. My shooting now is compact rifles when I have a few minutes.
This rifle likes JSB or FX 13 gr pellets the best.
I will add photos taken today this afternoon.

Original box, probe, mag, SST, 3 CARM mags, and the rifle.

One small scratch on the tube from accessing a screw to remove the shroud. Which I never ended up removing.

It shoots 10.3gr an average of 876 fps, and 13.4gr 769 fps

Looking to trade for one rifle of similar value. 177 22 or 25. I’m looking for something compact.

  • Question
N/A  Rental option??

I've noticed that many classified members trade airguns out of curiosity, often to try out models they don’t own, especially since local shops aren’t accessible to everyone.

This makes me wonder—are there any places that offer rentals for high-end airguns?
Being able to rent one for a week or two could be a game-changer, allowing enthusiasts to test them thoroughly before making a purchase decision.

Airgun Technologies  Uragan 2 King.......32.3 grain slugs- target inside.

Here is a Uragan 2 King. .22 caliber...........600mm barrel. These are 6 shots 32.3 grain Altaros ATP .217 smooth's
This was shot at around 4:30 pm , today 12/29/24. The yardage is 45.3 yards. The conditions were fairly calm with light currents.
I did not hold off. Just went straight for the 5/16's target diamond. ( 1/16 over a quarter inch , diamond)
The gun is stock configuration. Nothing has been done to it. Just straight out of the box.
Here is my gun rigged up with a Vector Orion promax 3-18x50mm second focal plane optic ( with floating dot) and below that is the target.
Target was shot off sandbags on the front........nothing in back except my shoulder. It does this frequently.
The gun seems to be fairly accurate.
EDIT: The little measuring thingy is in centimeters , not inches. ( 2.54cm = 1 inch)
No idea what that might be on a center to center measurement. It's small.

The Whooper HW77 - Update and Rear Iris Questions

Hey guys,

Just sitting here late at night when I should be sleeping. Hope everyone is well.

I wanted to ask the crowd about their experiences with adjustable rear iris sights, like the Gehmann 510 and 530?

I don’t shoot competition, just casually with my HW77. Always trying to improve, and lately the poor daylight here in Finland has really limited my shooting with my fixed rear aperture.

So my thoughts drifted to rear sight upgrades like an iris and sun shade tube from Centra or Gehmann. Thoughts? Useful? Useless? What about polarizers lenses and 1.5x magnification?

Here’s the latest pic of the Whooper and a target from today, 20m standing as always.

Thanks for reading this far. Have a great day!

Is Your Spouse/Partner involved in the hobby?

This story starts with a visit to my local airgun shop, Trenier Outdoors in Sparta, Wisconsin. I was mainly there to just chat and catch up with the owner and see if he had anything interesting for sale. He brought out one of his own guns that he had had for several years and was ready to part with, a Daystate Red Wolf HP in .22. I had been eyeing these rifles for awhile on both the forum and Youtube and knew i wanted to go home with this beautiful piece! That was when he made me an offer I couldn't refuse and I was the proud owner of that used red wolf.
One problem down, then another comes to my mind, how am I going to tell my girlfriend about my impulse purchase? Then the idea hit me, this could be the rifle that gets her in to shooting with me. She had never done any type of shooting before but had very much expressed interest in coming with me to the range. I had wanted to take her for awhile but figured the air guns I brought with me might not be so easy to use for a first time shooter. I thought maybe this red wolf could be the ticket to getting her in to the hobby with me. So I mustered up the courage and brought the rifle to her with the idea that this would be hers for range use. Needless to say, I was shocked when she responded with giddiness and excitement at the mere idea of it!
When the day finally came to take her with, I gave her an overview of the rifle and controls, how to properly load it, use the safety, adjust the zoom and objective on the scope, and general range safety. We get to the range and I set up some spinner targets at 50 yards. after getting her comfortable on the bench and going over everything one last time, she loaded a slug, squeezed the trigger, and was in love with it. She did very well for her first time and was able to make the steel on the spinners ring many times that day, smiling the whole time. It is safe to say she is hooked and will probably be accompanying me a lot more in the future.

My question is... Is your significant other involved in the hobby with you? Did you get them into it? Would love to hear some stories about it, Thanks!

Optics  SOLD SWFA 3-15x42 SS MOA Quad Scope **REDUCED** $375** FINAL REDUCTION

Selling my SWFA 3-15 FFP scope. I am downsizing and sold the gun it was on. I bought this scope 3 or 4 years ago from SWFA as a demo unit. It has performed flawlessly and given me excellent service. Great glass, MOA ffp reticle , side focus from 6 yds ~ infinity. Other than minimal wear on the turrets and faint ring marks , it would be hard to tell from new. Selling for $425 , now $400, $375 , including tracked and insured shipping to the conus only. Not interested in trades or offers at this time. This is listed on other sites. Please deal by pm. Thanks for looking. Herb

42 grain Varmint Knockers

So I was finally able to shoot a group out to 100 yards with my 700mm Uragan 2 25 cal using Varmint Knockers Knurled .253 and man what a combo this makes. I ran down the slug rabbit hole with my Maverick and never could get it, thankfully Derrick Wall made sure that didnt happen this time. 50 yards is a cake walk and repeatable (Pic 1 and 2) Now for 100 yards, there was a good 10-15 mph wind that day. And you can definitely tell. I was aiming at the orange diamond first 3 Shots all touching, 2nd 2 shots wind died down both touching. These aren’t hand picked these are the only groups I shot at 100, I went to steel right after. The bigger group in the middle was my godchild‘s first attempt ever at a 100 yard Group. I would definitely check out VK knurled slugs if you havent. I have another 1000 on the way, average FPS was 932.

FX Impact - Hunting Specific Questions for a newbie

Hello all,

Brief Background:

I am new to the Forum. My only experience with PCP airguns was a Hatsun Flash QE in 25 cal. I no longer own it, but I loved the PCP experience I had with it, other than the hand pump. I hunt with firearms and have a 308, 350 Legend, and 3 AR platforms in 556/223

Now, I recently got access to a nice property to hunt/camp on in Central TX. I am interested in picking off squirrels, raccoons, coyotes, etc. and I want it to be as quiet as possible, especially during deer season. When it is not deer season, I will be truck camping and will likely be shooting either from the back of my truck at night or in one of my deer blinds, where I routinely see these suckers eating up all my deer feed. There are also cattle on the property, so I know they would love for me to take care of any cayotes.
I have decided I want to go with the FX Impact platform. I will be looking at 25 and possibly a 30 or 35-cal barrel for Cayotes. I do not plan on going much farther than 100 yards and will likely stick with pellets unless I move up to a higher caliber and use slugs.

Here are my questions:
  • I am looking to buy a used MK2 or 3, but I would love to know your thoughts on buying used vs just going new
  • I have an ATN optic on one of my AR platforms that I NEVER use and wonder how these work with the MK3 or should I stick with green "hog lights" either over the feeder or mounted to the gun or both
  • Tanks: I have a lot of friends in the fire service who could likely fill up tanks for me if I were to source some they need to get rid of as they are out of date. Has anyone done this? Pros/Cons, and if I have access to tanks, is a budget compressor that can handle filling them be worth it?
  • Lastly, for those that hunt small/med-sized game with an impact, is 25 cal enough for raccoons and well-placed shots on cayotes?
Thanks in advance. I hope to become not just a consumer, but also a contributor here soon as I jump more into the PCP world more

Happy New Year everyone.

Hot Tip Of The Day!!!

20241229_182915.jpg
When sighting in from your shooting position internal to your home, Don't forget to open the window.:cry::cry:
Point blank, .22 P-rod 697 FPS with JSB Heavy Diabolo 15.89 gr. The long guns hang outside, but the P-rod with shoulder stock and DFL Tanto don't reach. It didn't make it through the second pane. I should send this in to Arcadia Windows.
