Support for Airguns and Airgun Related Products. What's Important to You?

I am of the opinion that support is one of the hallmarks of online forums. It seems people join online airgun forums for different reasons, some for several reasons. Personally, I joined this site to learn and stayed for support and shared interests. These forums hold a lot of information, but new airgun companies are emerging and competition is ramping up with newer models and/or improved upon designs (e.g. bench rest with Karma, Skout, AAA airguns. Semi-auto airguns LCS then Western Airguns are competing with Huben). This pushes the forums to keep up as new companies introducing new guns spawn questions about their products. I think that innovation is great and it's interesting to watch advanced air gunners (that are often some sort of tradesman) blaze the trail on improving a platform. Reading their threads can be educational and at times overwhelming for the neophyte or not so mechanically inclined.

On the forums it is highly beneficial to be able to search, read, ask questions and receive responses. What happens when you don't receive the response that you're looking for and you need a manufacturer, distributor, or retailer to provide information, specifications, or confirmation on information and specs from outside sources? How important is it to you to have direct access to them to receive information? What are the most effective and dependable avenues of communication that you've found in communicating with manufacturers, distributors, or retailers concerning warranty, maintenance, or modification of your airguns or airgun related products? As a customer, how do you think that some manufacturers, distributors, and retailers can improve customer and product support?

PCP Rifle  SOLD FS .22 caliber FX Tarantula in custom stock

This FX Tarantula has the legendary accuracy. It is bedded in a custom, walnut thumbhole stock and has a rollover cheek rest, adjustable butt pad and palm swell. The BSA 6-24 X 44 scope with AO that adjusts from 10 yards to infinity is included as well as the scope rings. It will be shipped with 1 magazine, the fill probe and a fill port plug. Price is $575 and that includes shipping to CONUS.

PLEASE NOTE: This gun leaks from the fill port and although it cocks it does not shoot. This might be because it will not fill to proper pressure but I don’t know. I do not work on airguns, especially pcp’s and am not about to start. Don’t have the time or patience.

I’ve sold over 100 guns on the old yellow forum and have over 12 pages of feedback as klentz and kevin lentz. Haven’t sold much on this forum but I am putts4doe on ebay.

Ordering Pellets In Cold Weather

I live in Wisconsin and just ordered some pellets. I was wondering if they deliver these pellets when let's say it is 20 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and then bring them into a house that is 70 degrees Fahrenheit, do I have to worry about condensation forming inside the pellet tins? Is this an issue? Has anyone had an issue like this? I ordered quite a few tins so they would not be opened for a very long time.
Thanks.

Air Arms  TX200SR a blast from the past!

The following is an indepth article about the TX200SR. A rifle i find to be highly collectable in today's market.
So, in keeping with passing on of knowledge, I'm hoping that this article enlightens the reader. Too many of the newer members have no idea of some of the old variations of airguns that were produced in the 80s and 90s. I hope you all enjoy this article.
The 2 pictures are rifles from my collection. Enjoy!

THE TX200SR
Whilst working on early prototypes of the TX200 that he had been commissioned to design, master airgunsmith Ken Turner had experimented with adding what was referred to as a “recoil suppression device”.

The device was a rail inside the stock that allows the action to move rearward on synthetic bearings during the firing process, minimising the recoil felt by the shooter and thus reducing the hold sensitivity of the rifle.

Air Arms saw potential in Ken’s semi recoiling rifle as although the popularity of PCP’s was growing there were still shooters that preferred self contained air rifles and a semi-recoiling rifle could be appealing to them.

Prototypes of the new air rifle were on display at the International Shooting Sports Exhibition at the NEC in March 1992 and later in the year the TX200SR was with retailers.

The “T” was for Turner and the “SR” for semi-recoiling. The initial run ran out fast and waiting lists grew.

The SR received rave reviews, early sales remained strong and in 1993 it was awarded Air Rifle of the Year by Airgun World.

AGW - JANUARY 1993 - TX200SR REVIEW - P3

In early 1993, an anti-bear trap device was added to the rifle in its Mk2 version. This was the only significant change.

With production of the SR ceasing in 1998 it had a relatively short life of around 6 years.

I don’t know the reason for Air Arms deciding to discontinue production of the SR but after the initial strong sales demand would seem to have dropped off quite quickly given that total sales over its 6 years were only around 1500.
Advert From 1994
AGW - APRIL 1994 - AA AD.jpg

The growing popularity and affordability of PCP’s would have affected demand as would the change in Field Target rules meaning the SR could no longer be used in the recoiling class. In an Air Arms advert from 1997 they sated “TX200SR - hugely popular with FT shooters as an alternative to traditional PCP recoilless rifles”. If this was the case I reckon it is more likely be a case of Field Target shooters who had been using the SR continuing to do so in the recoil-less class for a while whilst saving up for a PCP.

It is also worth noting that although the SR had been used by some FT shooter, the standard TX was still favoured over it. In the 1995 World Field Target Championships the standard TX took first and second place in all 3 recoiling classes whilst the SR only managed a 3rd place in one of the classes.

Another contribution to the demise could have been that the standard TX200 was so good that to some the extra cost and higher maintenance of the SR was a put off - the sledge/action had to be set up carefully to retain zero and would need re-setting whenever the action was removed from the sledge, which in itself was a bit of a chore.

Writing this has actually made me wonder whether the downfall of the TX200SR was down to the fact that it failed to compete well enough with its main rival – the standard TX200.

Despite having some flaws the SR it is still talked about with fondness by those who own or have owned one and it has a certain charm about it that makes it a very desirable rifle.
Mk2 (Walnut stock)

TX200SR 2.jpg

TX200SR 1.jpg

Weight: 4.45kg
Length: 41.5in
Barrel length: 14.75in
Calibre: .177 & .22
Apart from the trigger unit being isolated and some minor changes to allow the action to be attached to the sledge the action on the SR Mk1 & 2 are the same as those on the standard TX200 Mk1 & 2.

A solid steel piston, with a bore of 25mm runs inside a polished compression tube. With a pair of delrin bearings being present at each end the piston is radially floating, meaning there is no metal to metal contact and it can rotate during travel. The system eliminates the torque on fixed piston rifles that leads to twist being experienced when firing, providing greater spring efficiency and smoother operation. Adding to the efficiency of the rifle is the concentrically designed breech/transfer port which ensures a smooth flow for air on firing.

The SR has a stroke length of 82mm, the same as the standard TX. A few extra few millimetres of under-lever travel sets the sledge. As the rifle is cocked you can see the action move forward and lock, allowing around 10mm of rearward travel during recoil. When un-cocked, the action can move freely on the sledge.

As with all the TX range, the SR benefits from a 12 groove precision choked Walther barrel.

The muzzle end assemble is a one piece assemble with a built in silencer and the under-lever catch below. The catch uses a simple sprung ball mechanism with a synthetic stop to prevent over-travel.

The ratcheting anti-beartrap mechanism was introduced on the Mk2 TX200SR and was referred to as the “Safelok”. There are 10 notches cut along the piston shroud, 3 evenly spaced ones can be seen with the other 7 being hidden further back and out of sight. The small black lock on the side of the action engage with the notches as the rifle is cocked. After cocking the lock must be depressed before the breech can close as the under-lever returns.

A new trigger unit was developed for the TX range in the form of the C.D. unit – the C.D. being an abbreviation of “Computer Developed”. This is a multi adjustable 2 stage match trigger with sears machined from solid steel and a chassis screwed together rather being formed from folded steel. At the end of the cocking stroke the top sear automatically locks and the safety catch is set. The standard trigger blade was the same curved on as used on the TX200, with the option of a straight blade being offered.

The sporter style stock is very similar to that of the standard TX200 of the time. It was available in beech or walnut and featured:

  • A fore-end that was deeper at the rear than the standard TX stock and had a cutaway to allow for the movement of the action
  • Finger grooves to the fore-end
  • A rollover cheek-piece with a high comb to aid scope/eye alignment
  • Raked pistol grip
  • Chequering to the pistol grip and fore-end
  • Black rubber ventilated butt pad

Umarex  Tuning in general

I have seen a few Youtube videos about tuning. They were all for rifles I do not own, but I think I can still apply the principles. I would like to go over my understand of what I have learned and hope some of you will correct me if I am wrong.

Rifles I own
Umarex Guantlet 2 SL 30 (Hammer spring adjustment only but I am sure Hajimoto can hook me up)
Umarex Zelos (regulator and hammer spring adjustment)

For this example lets assume I am tuning the Zelos to a lower than stock pressure for more shots per fill.
1 Set the regulator pressure at whatever pressure I want to tune to.
2 Back out the hammer spring significantly
3 Gradually increase the hammer spring tension until 2-3 increases in tension do not result in greater FPS

That's all I can do without a more adjustable rifle like the FX right?

H&N Field Target Trophy pellets .

Just got 4 tins of them from PA today.
H&N FTT Pellets seem to be highly rated. Yes??
They shoot well in most of my rifles. But with a few flyers sprinkled in sometimes.

I got 4 tins of them in 5.5 cal.
2 tins are the 5.53mm and 2 tins of the 5.55mm. All of the tins say right on them. That they are 14.66 grain.
I always weigh 20 or so pellets from each tin to get the actual weights and check for consistency.
None of these weigh the stated 14.66 grains.
3 of the tins were nice and consistent.

And 1 tin will need to be sorted. The weights were all over the place with that one. This here explains the flyers that I don’t feel were because of me.

FX Barrel Liner question

I have another question to ask about barrel liners.
i just got a .25 superior heavy 1:18 700mm liner i used 8 pin gauges ranging from .250 to .247
what i noticed while watching through my bore scope is it seems that the inside of the liner is shaped somewhat like a funnel
each gauge would only go into the barrel maybe 3 in before i had to change to a smaller size.
i also noticed the rifling of the bore was less on the breech side and very noticeable increasing heading towards the choke.
pushed a slugs through very little resistance until the last 3 inches on the liner with slight markings on the slug vs deep cut like the 1:24.
my 600mm 25 liner is the same way but shoots incredible accurate out to 75 yds so far.

FX  Make my FX Dreamline compact .22 quiet

I have just received my FX Dreamline compact .22 and am very impressed with the accuracy, BUT, it's noisy.
My use is in a back yard at ranges from 20 to 50 metres max, shoot pesky birds and rabbits, currently have JSB Hades 15.89g

I am in Australia, so no suppressor.

As a total newbie to this and getting confused by the jargon I would be forever grateful if someone can give me a clear set of instructions to get this gun as quiet as is possible in its stock form, no additions or major mods. The front power adjuster is Low, Medium, High, the rear one is numbered from 1 to 23 Regulator pressure is set on 115.

PCP Rifle  NLA Saber Tactical .177 FX Dreamline

.177 FX Dreamline with Saber Tactical chassis. FX DonnyFL moderator. This gun has the picatinny rail, hammer spring adjuster and flip safety. I'll include all original items included with the rifle plus a CARM flip out single shot loader. The original mag has not been used as I single load everything I shoot. This gun is a shooter and in excellent condition. I haven't made any internal adjustments. I did drill a hole in the stock to access the regulator adjuster without removing the chassis. Never touched it after the initial tune. It's shooting extremely well with JSB 10.34 pellets at 870 fps.
Scope, wheel and mounts not included.
I'll ship to lower 48 for $1075.00.
I'd take $985.00 and deliver to a hundred mile radius of OKC to avoid shipping.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A coyote that interacted with a person in Wallingford on Tuesday has tested positive for the rabies virus, according to the Wallingford Animal Control.
The incident happened on Main Street in the area of United Concrete, according to a post on the animal control’s Facebook page.
WTNH News 8 reports a United Concrete employee was bitten by the coyote as he was arriving to work.

The coyote had been trying to attack employees on fork lifts and trucks, according to WTNH.

Read more from the Wallingford Animal Control below:
Here are some important facts:

-The rabies virus is a fatal disease that affects mammals.
- It is spread through the saliva of an infected animal through a bite or scratch. It can also be transmitted if infected saliva makes contact with the eyes, mouth, nostrils, or an open wound.

-In Connecticut, the most common species to contract the virus are raccoons, skunks, foxes, coyotes, and bats. While bobcats can also spread the virus, they rarely get infected, and aren't considered a primary vector species here.
It can also infect unvaccinated cats and dogs.

-Symptoms of the virus include unusual vocalizations, unusual aggression or lack of fear of humans, movements such as circling, staggering (appearing "drunk"), or even partial paralysis.

Also present can be (but not always) the classic "foaming of the mouth" caused as paralysis sets in and the animal can no longer swallow.

What can you do?

-Make sure your pets are vaccinated (as required by law).
-Keep your pets indoors.

- Avoid feeding wild animals, intentionally and unintentionally (think securing garbage cans).

-Report any wild animal that is acting sick to us.

-CT Deep has a Wildlife Division that can handle general questions (860-424-3011).

-CT DEEP has an emergency dispatch number (860-424-3333) if an animal is posing a direct threat. The Police Department can also be contacted in urgent situations.
Please call CT DEEP for coyotes and bobcats that are acting sick, we do not have the means to handle these species.

For more information, visit the Connecticut DEEP’s website here.

No more turbo lag with the m4 .25

as some of you know after roughly 200 shots i noticed the first few shots were not up to speed.
i read about it so i was prepped if the m4 would have a impact legacy. it does. well did.
talked o many people who has owned fx guns over a 4–5-year period for some.

watched many vids but very few tell much a few. one guy I think his first name is Ernest rowe?
seems to know the guns well.
upon taking the gun apart I noticed the top rail and front barrel support are pinned top and bottom
the front block isn't going to move like I've read it's impossible.
took the gun completely apart cleaned all the factory black grease from the gun gone.
smoothed out any sharp edges on the inside/outside of both springs hammer and adjuster
polished the rod and both springs to a mirror finish hammer and the hammer sleeve
also installed the HUMA AIR 7.5g hammer
changed that soft little o ring that is inside the plenum tube as its to soft and drags the new one does not nice and smooth.
went out today later in the day shot a full mag it was in the 30s maybe low 40s
whole new gun no more turbo lag for the first 3-4 shots
here is a full mag shooting 32g AEA slugs
not bad groups at 50 yds.

New here

Hi everyone I’m new here and just wanted to say hi and I’m waiting for the new barra 250z can’t wait but I preordered nov 25 and haven’t even got a update for shipping or nothing kinda bummed. Meanwhile I’m looking for a decent scope. Can’t wait to get everything

Benjamin  SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED??

Things that make you go hmmmmm.

My 44in long Kratos just showed up in a 30in box. I’m heading back to work and haven’t opened it yet.

Guessing the seller removed the barrel and shroud to save shipping in a bigger box. Or he shipped me a Red Ryder by mistake lol

Quite the assumption on the part of the seller to think everyone is an air gun mechanic lol.

Congratulations to the new Dutch champion Bert Vellen

We would like to congratulate the new Dutch champion in the 100m airgun benchrest Mr. Bert Vellen.

Dutch championship is make from 6 matches for the 100 meter and the 4 best results count for the title.

Mr. Vellen win all 6 matches. 5 of them winning with the Krale sponsored FX Panthera and ATP King 40gr 5.52mm slugs and one with Drummen Sinner .223 airgun.
Also with Panthera and ATP King slug set a new Dutch matchrecord of 309 points. The total number of points of 1221 over 4 mathces was also a record.

Once again we congratulate him on a great end of the season and thank him for excellent representation of our slugs and his shooting skills.
The same slugs used by Dutch Champion can be found hire:
