Caldwell chronograph

I just purchased a Caldwell chronograph with the lighting kit. My problem is I have a really hard time getting it to record a 10 shot group, if it registers at all. I get 2-3 registered shots out of 20 shots. I have tried everything I can thank of, bright sun lite, partial cloudy, overcast, middle of the day and late in the evenings. I've used it with the sun shades and the lites on and off, and without the sunshades. I did get a couple of 10 shot groups on a partially cloudy day with the lites in the sunshades on. I do find that it works much better with my slower shooting guns, around 500-550 fps. My Hatsan is shooting(when I can get it to register) at 800-815 fps. I've tried it at different distances in front of the gun with no change in readings. Is the outdoor lighting really that critical to the Caldwell chronographs or am I doing something wrong. Thank you.

New Uragan 2 600mm in .22

Uragan 2 600mm, .22 factory tune.
Was surprised that it shot the old Jumbo Monster 25.39gr better than my Avenger shoots the Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr at 100 yards.
I finally have a gun that will shoot my backlog of those! The ping is not as loud as my LCS ping and comparing the ping volume to my lower powered Avenger, it’s just slightly louder
but, with a little more treble. By no means too loud in my opinion(LCS ‘is’ too loud). Don’t have sub MOA yet but shows potential to get there. Trigger from factory feels light and crisp.
Carbon Fiber stock but is not front heavy.
Would be nice to have some tuning references for the U2. Anyone come across some?

RAW HM1000X question (UPDATE)

I just recently got a RAW chassis rifle and I have a question for others that have them. So far I’m not seeing the accuracy I’ve read about but I’m not ready to blame it all on the gun. What I am a little concerned about is I ran a couple 12 shot strings across my Fx chronograph and the extreme spread is 25fps. It’s averaging 941 fps with 4-5 of the 12 shots in the 920 range at random intervals. I’m wondering what kinda of velocity spread other RAW owners are seeing. I’m wondering if that’s why it seems like I have random low shots every few shots.

SOLD RAW .22 HM1000X in mint condition, lowered price

I have two RAW 22s so I’m selling one as a I really don’t need two and they both shoot identically. Shot and posted a 200 score on the 30 yard challenge with this rifle. It’s still running the unmolested factory tune shooting 25.4 MRDs like a laser at 949 FPS. I listed it as mint condition but there are a couple faint marks on the top pic rail from the scope rings but that is all I can see wrong with it. Comes with 1 magazine. I bought this rifle new this year and it had the huge car muffler on it so I sent the barrel back to have it removed and a 1/2-20 adapter installed so you can use any LDC of your choice. I will include the extra car muffler but it’s of little use IMO.

These stocks are LH friendly because there is no cast and there are thumb grooves on both sides.

I’ve sold lots of stuff here on AGN so feel free to search my history and feedback. PayPal F&F or add 3.5%. Shipped in Continental US insured for $1575, lowered price to $1500. Not looking for any trades.

SOLD Cricket .35 , Daystate Huntsman xl .22

Selling a few airguns I don't shoot much.
1) Cricket 35 cal. with discover scope and hard case. I rebuilt this last year and tuned it to shoot 120 fpe with JSB 81 gr. It has a power plenum, weaker valve spring + a stiffer hammer spring and custom cheek rest. The shroud has an aftermarket end cap which is epoxied in (purchased it like this). Its not prefect as the price reflects but reliable and holds air. Comes with seal kit, a few parts- $675 + shipping.

2) Daystate Huntsman Regal xl .22 non regulated w/ Discover scope. Earlier this year I also went through this gun and replaced all the seals plus a few parts, tuned at 30 fpe. . Comes with scope and hard case. Nothing wrong with it and holds air, includes seals and a few parts - 2 mags. Not pristine condition with minor cosmetic faults- $500 plus shipping.

Only trade I would consider is the new Cricket 2 Tactical 60 in .30. - plus $ on my end.

Destabilization speed for Diablos

It has become apparent to me as I am learning from all of you, that at a certain speed (FPS) Diablo Pellets, generally speaking, experience in flight Destabilization due to their shape in general.
I wonder if people here could chip in with what they have noticed that "do not exceed" speed is to them, yes i know, barrel type, spin rate, humidity and altitude are factors BUT there is a POINT of no return for Diablos in general.

RTI Prophet: How to Install the Barrel?

❓ How should the barrel on an RTI Prophet be installed?

I took off the barrel without looking at every detail first — assuming (falsely) that there is only one position and one way to install a barrel.
Well, from what I can tell, the depth of how far the barrel is seated into the action seems to be variable, not a one-position-only affair.

So, how do I know how far to insert it?

What else should I be paying attention to — considering that this is the first time ever that I have removed a barrel from an action? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Thanks for any help.

Matthias

I am in an Airgun desert

I live in Western Washington and There are no local airgun stores that I can find. Sure there are lots of online sources which I have used but I am a "touchy and feelly" kind of guy and I really wish that either there were brick and mortar stores I could brouse. I have checked at several PB gun stores but they want to send me to Walmart which is all right if I want break barrels but not for PCP or even pellets bigger than 22 cal. is there a listing somewhere that has airgun stores by state? I kind of wish that I lived in Ohio or Texas where airgunning appears to be very popular but as far as I can find the nearest store to me is Utah and that is a little far for me. Anyone in Washington state who has been airgunning for awhile got any better information than I do?

Outdoor gun? FX Impact M3 stays sighted?

I am (was) very close to buying an Fx Impact M3 .22. to get to know it but possibly upgrading to .357 after some time. Now I heard two times from reliable sources that you should never ever touch the barrel/shroud heavyhanded otherwise you risk to have to sight the rifle in again.

What are your experiences? Did you push yours into a backpack with other stuff for longer hiking trips? Lean it against a tree or bump lightly against one? Grip it heartly by the barrel when picking it up?

I am not talking about being rough and abuse the gun. But I see so many people having their M3 dustfree on benchrests or "hunting" from their car on YT. Has anyone taken theirs outside in the wild? Will it hold its sighting?

Another thing I heard was that you should dryfire some times to get the air going befor hitting the target. Will the gun not shoot reliable first shot after 72 or more hours?

Any ohter recommendations for a similar but more sturdy "outdoor" gun? In .357?

I appreciate your sharing of experiences. Thanks beforehand!

Winnie

These chronograph results were shot today to confirm the gun was performing as it was a couple months ago when I last shot it. I shot the same pellet at different TP settings to show functionality. The gun also shot HN HP 25 gr. 0218" slugs averaging just under 1000 fps, pretty well.

AEA Challenger, 24" barrel, .22 cal.
UTG OP3 4-16X44 30mm Compact Scope, AO, IE, Glass UMOA
WestHunter Optics Adjustable Height Dovetail Scope Rings, 1 Inch or 30 mm Precision Scope Mount
Challenger regulator - the regulator is easily removed as it is just an extension to the air tube.
6 magazines, two brand new (tested, but not put in rotation)
3D printed barrel band

I will need to remove scope from the gun to pack both back in their original boxes and ship separately. Gun will be packed in the original box with manual, Pellet Shop checklist, fill probe and hopefully all six mags and the rings will fit, too. Then that will go into an overbox. Scope will ship separately in it's original box.
Close to $900 value, selling for $450 including shipping for both packages. PayPal G&S preferred or USPS MO. USA lower 48 only, no trades
Going to drop the listing after this and it can sit in the corner until I feel like playing with it again. I have other guns I want to sell, but only going to deal with one at a time.

Reason for selling is, I got into FX guns and that's where I'm going to stay.
PM with any questions.

Selling off Powder Burners

Does anyone sell off some of their powder burners to finance air rifles? Im just not into it like I was. shooting and hunting has been a passion all my life but now that I’m older I’ve slowed down a lot. I saw the other thread about getting out of air gunning while I’m just getting started I’ll probably get rid of a few center fires that I don’t shoot any more and start buying pellet guns

Taipan Veteran .25 - Slug Shooting

Anyone on here shooting a slugs in a .25 Vet - I've been testing past few days - AVS 46gr cup - 46gr BT - 48gr BT and 50gr BT. All have proven extremely accurate but wow, that .50 really impresse....got it tuned to 986fps and shooting quarters @ 75yrds. Not interested in shot count at the moment, more wanting a fast & hard-hitting bullet - just wanting to see what other Taipan shooters are using. I have some lighter weight slugs, 32,34,36,44, etc. just not getting the performance - seems, least for my gun that nothing below 46gr seems to equal the heavier bullets

Stock design and fit

I have become interested recently in stock design and how it is adapted to different shooting disciplines. This was sparked in part by the rather unusual design of the stock of the Diana AirKing Pro. Just what was the intended usage? Here are some stats from a range of rifles of different styles:

Stock Dimensions.jpg

Drops are from scope centerline using medium rings, except for the Daystate which had its scope mounted in high rings, and the D54 which had its scope mounted in the one piece Diana mount which is about 1/4" higher than the typical medium mount.

And here is a picture of a couple of the rifles, an Anschutz 54 Sporter and the Diana AirKing Pro.

P9040209.jpg

Let's take the Anschutz rifles first, same manufacturer but presumably different intended usages. The 1761 has a straight stock with hardly any difference from middle of comb to heel, and is intended for bench and prone shooting as is so popular for precision rifle shooting these days. The 54 is a traditional Monte Carlo with rollover and is designed for head up shooting, primarily when hunting. The MPR has a somewhat low comb but relatively high heel and is designed for target shooting from prone, offhand or bench with iron sights or scope. It also has an adjustable butt plate to help accommodate those different positions and sight arrangements.

Then we come to the airguns which mostly have very similar stock dimensions, with around 2 1/4" drop at the comb and around 3 1/2" drop at the heel, with a few exceptions. The TX has a somewhat higher comb to allow for a more head up position as might be encountered in Field Target. The FWB Sport has a somewhat lower comb to allow proper cheek contact when using its excellent iron sights. Then we come to the AirKing Pro with its exceptionally low comb and heel. Is that to support use of the iron sights that come with the rifle? Or is it to adapt the rifle to someone's idea of the ideal configuration for Field Target? I shoot sitting almost exclusively and find it too extreme for me. The heel ends up low in my shoulder, and the comb only reaches to my jaw. I can shoot the Diana OK, but I would say it is far from ideal.

Which brings us to the last entry, my ideal configuration for sitting position. It combines the higher comb of the TX with a low heel, but not as low as on the Diana. With a 2" difference between comb and heel it would probably look something like those from Custom Stock in the UK with what I believe is a strong influence from Field Target. Those of you who have them and shoot from position how are they working out? Are they an improvement on the generic airgun stock configuration in terms of fit and shootability? Are an adjustable comb and butt plate really necessary, or does the basic stock fit well enough?

Playing with the PRod

Started trying to quieten the little booger down. Seemed like it was blowing a lot of air out of the end of it. So i went to backing things up, i got to 4 turns cw from 0 on the HST, and 3 turns on the throw, found this to be an acceptable noise level.. chrony says its running 650’ish. Im shooting the cheap crosman 14.3hp’s . Primary use will be punchin paper at 30y. Hopefully 650 will be fast enough to get them to group decent… i know faster is better, but im trying to be quiet, and short. May use this for rats / mice, inside barns or out buildings. Will put it on paper in the morning.
