Question for Ghost owners

Last Saturday I had spent some time setting up a tune for .22 JSB 15.89 (have a lot of them), set the reg at ~75-80 and was happy there with about 922fps. Worked up dope for the gun/scope and, in doing so, went through 3 tank refills (gotta tell you refilling using a hand pump sux). I closed out the day and left the rifle sitting just shy of 250BAR.

Since then, I've dispatched several pests and am now seeing the huma reg sitting at 95 (up from 75ish on Saturday)

Questions I have are:

Anyone seen the regulator pressure increase over time as noted above?

How long can I / should I leave the Ghost with close to full tank pressure. I'm still in the middle of pesting and want to ensure it's got enough air as opportunities arise.

Obligatory Ghost pic...

How about a bird gun thread?

I'll start. I reconfigured my 2240 bottle gun into a 177 with a lothar Walther 1720 barrel I got from @SteveV Thanks bro!

Getting 800 fps for 100 shots with 7.9 wally world crosmans. Gives me dimes at 40 yards with the standard fliers known with cheap pellets. Perfect for a little pest bird rig!

Got this male HOSP at 25 yards right in the head through the tree branches.

Gaines Blackwell

Airgun friends, I was saddened to learn that our friend Gaines Blackwell passed away on December 29. You older gents will remember him well as a frequent, helpful, and always delightful contributor on earlier forums.

One of the most outgoing and friendly humans I've ever met, Gaines's true love was architecture: he was professor of architectural history at Auburn University for many years, and a brilliant designer. After retirement he designed some of the most distinctive custom homes in the US. He was widely loved by his students, who among many other honors established a scholarship fund in his name at Auburn.

Gaines was smart, funny, and a true Renaissance man who could converse on any subject. His involvement in airguns was actually fairly brief, but he characteristically used that time to acquire an amazing collection of vintage match rifles, a fantastic knowledge base, and of course a wide network of friends.

This is perhaps his most famous photo, which he called - tongue firmly in cheek - "Tyros falling from the trees!" (Actually painstakingly staged with the guns carefully braced and padded.)

  • Question
Help me pick my next PCP rifle

Hey guys new to the PCP. Im looking for a mid priced rifle to plink and target shoot in my back yard. Im a noon to PCP but not shooting. Ive converted my 1022 Ruger into my own. (custom barrel, custom trigger and stock) and been plinking with my Crossman and Beman in the backyard for years now and its time for me to step it up. What are some suggestions for me to consider. Id like to stick to the best bang for the buck in the $1500 or less catagory.

Ive narrowed down some options based on some of the following criteria.
  • Shooting distance 25-100 yd plinking and field targets. NRL22 targets
  • .22 calibur
  • Regulated (accuracy over power)
  • 2 stage trigger
  • Magizine loading
  • Tight grouping and accuracy is top priority. Target Shooting
  • Picitiny or weaver rail for accessories like bipod and scope.
  • Needs to be adjustable based ammunition selection ( pellets/slugs)
  • Nice to have and high secondary priority would be to be able to swap to another barrel for a diffrent caliber.
  • Nice to have shoot slugs and pellets from same barrell with out having to swap
  • Nice to have a moderator/silencer as an included item.
What are your recommendations??
These are some options that I started to look at and thought might be good options.

This is an odd ball not sure if its all the hype around this modle but watching the reviews its like the best thing since sliced bread.

FX Impact 600mm 480cc is it as good as everyone says? My concerns are with all the complexity (tuning)and lots of pontential failure points (lots of o rings) and potential for leaks. With all that said I have not seen a lot of issues or negative comments about this gun. Most if not all of the reviews give it extremely high praise. So is it worth paying extra???
The IMPACT is really more than I want to spend. Id like to stick under the $1500 price point BUT if its that good i dont mind eating penut butter and jelly sandwiches for another month.

These are some PCP that ars on my radar. Please help me confirm or rulle out these options and let me know if I have missed anything.
  • FX dreamline lite with bottle
  • Brocock Sniper XR
  • Brocock Commander XR
  • BRK Ghost Carbine
  • Hatsan Factor RC

  • RAW HM 100x Chassis
Thoughts on these or other similar style guns. I dont like the bullpup style or very traditional gun stle. I prefer a more tactical style as you can tell from my list.

My Rocket Challenges Your Fastest Projectile! Even Some of Your PB's!

Planned flight for Saturday. 24.4 g's acceleration and 1062 mph (1557 FPS ) according to the simulator (which is remarkably accurate). I bet most pellets beat the crap out of it in acceleration, though. Probably by a lot. It would be interesting to know what kind of G's they experience when my .30 Terminator sends them down the barrel, say. Anyone know how to calculate this? I mean I'm not an actual rocket scientist. I just play one in real life sometimes.

Problem with my new cricket 2 tactical NO Accuracy

Hello friends, I have a problem. My completely new cricket 2 tactiacl 600 groups wonderfully at 25 meters with 18.13 pellets. But at 50 meters it makes elliptical turns (they can be seen) and they fall anywhere. I have moved the entire spring in all directions and it still does not bunch up well. What can be? NOTE: My cricket 1 in a 50 meter wonder. Thank you for your answers.

SOLD AEA HP VARMINT 25 cal

Hello, I am letting go of my 25 cal aea HP varmint PCP air rifle. I mostly target shot with it, 200 yards steel plates were not a problem. MOA at 100 yards with JSB pellets. Stock is removed in pictures so it will fit in the small FX case. It comes with the slugs and pellets pictured. Stupid accurate with JSB pellets for 100 yard, I find it likes the NSA slugs for 200, much less drop. Also comes with a magazine (I dummied up the spring on the other magazine and will send it if you would like to repair it), Warne rings, dovetail adapter, a Nikon x1000 4-16 optic, and scope level. I shoot a FX impact now and my wife says I get to pick one airgun to keep. Will come shipped in a hard FX airgun case. Buyer pays shipping, $450 dollars with buyer paying paypal fees.

Wicked Air Rifles Making a Possible Return??

I messaged Jim Gaska the other day about possible places to check for extra parts for my new Wicked Air Rifles Flex. He messages me back and told me he’s working on getting the business going again. I don’t know if this is just news to me and old news or if it’s not been mentioned yet. I know a lot of guys on here loved Jim’s work and would like to hear this so I figured I would share. My fingers are crossed he makes it happen!

My First Day of Retirement

My Wife let me retire last Friday ...... now my daytime activities will mostly be filled with the "Honey-Do" list.
Landscaping the yard, replacing the carpet and painting the inside of the house are TOPS right now, but ...

I also just bought another RAW HM1000x - .25 caliber - Blue Laminate.

Further, I purchased two LW barrels, (1) .22 caliber and the other .20 caliber. I will be fitting them on my lathe, getting new CF barrel tubing as well as making LDC's.

It's gonna be fun .... :)

SOLD [WTT]DrozdMax Blackbird for sale or trade. 800 shipped obo

I have an excellent DrozdMax Blackbird full auto machine BB gun. It slings bbs at about 1000fps and can be varied with air pressure applied. 400+ rounds per minute. Capable.to run off of CO2 or HPA. This one is upgraded with a longer barrel and full auto chip. It also has single shot and 3 shot burst with the full auto. It is alot of fun and the most powerf bb gun i habe ever seen. Makes short work of coconuts at 25 yds and penetrates much more than most anticipate. This is for sale or trade at $800 shipped, cash is king. I would love to keep it, but i do not own a compressor and hand pumping this thing is a chore, doable but not fun.

AEA just is not good quality ( from my personal experience).

Welp, I wasted $499; I have trouble with the SS hp .25 cal. The bolt rod is stripped because it can not handle itself. I experience jam after jam; my magazines stop functioning properly the second day using it. I feel foolish for paying so much for something I thought would be awesome. Can anybody point me to the right website to get genuine replacement parts?

My "new" HW97k - Holy cow!

Picked up a 22 cal HW97k on the classifieds. I was impressed with the fit and finish right away. The seller indicated that they installed a p3 ho kit and added some baffles to the mod / muzzle break. Well, finally put a few shots through it. That's when my jaw hit the floor! Now my only previous experience with spring / gas piston guns was a "bear river" 177 of my friends and a Benjamin trail 22. Both of those have a rather robust kick upon firing. trigger pull was anywhere from 2.5-3.5 Lbs and frankly, no fun to shoot. I was also only able to achieve minimal accuracy. Now comes this platform, no ping, spring twang is very muffled. trigger pull 5-6 oz, yes! I double checked my lyman gage. the DB output? A dull thuded 99db. Outside of cocking the underlever for each round and a very manageable recoil on firing, I'd think I was shooting a PCP. I originally bought this for my friend, but , I may just have to keep this jewel. Going to shoot groups in a bit and see how bad I am. Never thought I'd be looking at a breaker more than in passing. Wonderful piece of machinery. The current stats:
Trigger pull - 5-6oz
Loudness - Dull 99db, no twang
Energy - 15-16FPE
14.3g - 690 FPS
14.6 - 707 FPS
15.9 - 664 FPS
18g - 635 FPS

Daystate, BSA, or Air Arms

Looking at my first higher end rifle to buy in a few months(hopefully) after I pay the IRS their blood money for the year.

Anyhow, I'm more interested in carbine size guns, so I'm wondering what's everyone's input on these fine British offerings?

I'm currently thinking the daystate revere, BSA Ultra CLX, or an Air Arms S410. Caliber will be 22 only, not interested in those little 177s and I've got 25 covered.

I had a BSA ultra jsr for a couple months and loved the action, I just couldn't use it well due to the tiny grip area. I could barely get 2 fingers on it and it was awkward. I actually enjoyed the rear bolt on that gun, so the AA s410 with a rear bolt would be fine.

So who has these and who likes which better? Give me a rope and harness to drop only so far into the next rabbit hole!

Thanks all!

What a difference the sweet spot makes!

AP16 best.jpg

With 2.5-8X pistol scope and no moderator.

Yes Folks, Mr. Air Pistol's (all-round) favorite air pistol of hundreds owned, tested, hunted, competed, and chronicled may well be the Russian-made Ataman AP16. But is it perfect in all regards? No. However in my book(s) it covers more bases extremely well than any other. However, One should always "consider the source" of glowing reviews. Even the most experienced air pistolero's opinions are only that- ONE individual's OPINION. And although I've been smitten with my AP from the get-go, the latest changes heightened my appreciation of it even further.

Per my usual pathology, one of my highest priorities after initial testing was to explore maximum power potentials. Air pistol EXTREME Field Target competition as an excuse, the AP16 maxed-out three foot-pounds shy of the 20 foot pound power limit. However it was comfortably above the fifteen foot pound minimum I recommend to drop LARGE, HEAVY extreme field targets reliably to 55 yards. The APs (relatively) light weight is a handicap in EPFT, but it's stellar trigger action and excellent accuracy really "hit the spot" (if the shooter does his part).

It's nothing less than a phenomenal hunting pistol. Air pistol hunting being a small-game and pest proposition, most air pistols limit maximum hunting ranges to 20-30 yards. While the AP doesn't, most shooters skills do. Humans simply aren't capable of better than 3/4" groups at 50 yards with a handgun, even from a good sand-bagged bench-rest. The AP16 is capable of such remarkably pistol accuracy.

The changes mentioned above that heightened my appreciation for this wonderment of air-gunnery relate to reducing the maximum power by just one foot pound. Apparently hundreds of rounds must have also contributed to the startling, 70% increase in shot-count; from 23 shots per 280 BAR fill at 17 foot pounds, to 40 shots per 250 BAR fill at 16 foot pounds.

That she's running so much more efficiently now might also explain why the muzzle bark is enough less painful to shoot without the muzzle gizmo, thereby improving the aesthetics considerably. Enough to warrant the 'nudie' photo above.
