Steyr Pro X First Shoot.

New to me Steyr Pro X .22 first time out, thought I would post my initial impressions concerning this platform and may add a few questions just talking out loud. The Pro X came to me with a reported 300 pellets through it in pristine condition. I cleaned the barrel with a small OD pull through with a soft loop and just used a tweezers to pull the loop out of the mag area wasn't an issue, was easy. This gun is going to eat CP domes and HPs plus JSB 18s 'cause that's what I have inmass, may get a box of slugs down the road for kicks...often said I wouldn't. I Mounted an Athlon 4 X 16 X 40 on the high rail...good for me cause I have a plate in my neck...
First two shots went in same hole 4-5" high one more shot to get on target...first 7 shots for effect penny size @ 30ys. with 18s @ 820ish. I read a thread recently "Styer Pro X Greatest trigger ever" no offense but it's not even close to my Veteran, it needs adjusting and it is holding this gun back, need a couple tins first and see if any improvement. Any one address this issue please chime in! The CP domes and JSB 18s were tight in the MAGs used two different MAGs, these pellets I used will not fall out from normal handling...precision items for sure ( As a retired machinist I can appreciate the workmanship and engineering) care must be taken NOT TO DROP THESE MAGS on hard or any surface would certainly trash 'em...my stroke numbed hands I'm extra careful they are slippery! Wind was an issue but the day was for familiarization much as anything. Accuracy was mediocre with couple fliers per mag, however the Pro X did show flashes of brilliance often 3-4 in same hole and seems to like higher fps...the domes really shined at times at 930! The HSA had a good range just like my Veteran but the Vet shot well at lower fps range also. No functioning issues but the noise issue under ear is real, worse with heavier pellets...ear plug no issue for me. Put close to 200 down range 60 shots at least per fill think will do more...love the 200b operating pressure. Cleaned bbl after shoot,
20230106_083315.jpg
considering fliers and how dirty it was seem like it may need polishing...TBD...
The build quility I would call "professional grade" like the Veteran for lack of a better term...the huddled masses considered "hobby or sports grade" IMHO. The Pro X is a FINE FINE piece of technology...I'm in! Only on very rare occasions have I had all a gun can offer the first time out, my Rapid 12 comes to mind, more testing to come and I'm not worried about this one at all...gunna' be fun...oh and I didn't do any mag dumps yet.

Reactionary Targets

I have set up an air gun range at our Izaak Walton clubhouse. I am looking for targets that indicate a hit and are re-useable. We shoot from 3 yards out to 15 yards. We use flat paper targets at various distances. I have used soda cans hung by a string and I challenge the kids to shoot the strings. They are pretty good at that! Their eyes are better than mine. I have hung 1/4" beads with fishline. One hit and they are done. Next item will be playing cards mounted horizontally. That should be a lot harder! What other ideas out there to keep the kids entertained?

Taipan: Anti-empty loading magazine

Don't you just hates it when your target appear, took a shot and missed. But the target still there and you rousingly loaded another round just to pull the trigger and all come out is Aaaair!!! Well, guess I have found the solution and made a working Anti(11th empty) round magazine for the Veteran. After the 10th round and if you try to loads again, it'll hit the solid spot and prevent the probe to close.

The idea sound easy, but it's way harder to design and make sure it's rotate and stops where it should. Dealing with 11r configuration and figuring out the pitch for this is a PIT.

PCP pistol quest.

I am more of a pistol guy then a rifle person so in my decade an a half into PCP the quest for a pistol has been on since the beginning.

I had DAQs Outlaw pistols in .357 .45 and .50 but the never felt right, just to long, heavy and unbalanced, I had the AR6 .22 that at 30 FPE was a beast and the revolver action was real fun but the pistol was really big, got a custom made Marauder .25 twin tube made but i hated the bolt action.

I now have a REX pistol .357 that I put open sight on and feels real good but I can't get over the rear tank.

Since I first saw the Huben pistol I said I would get one if they came out whatever the cost because it looked fantastic.

Today I saw this pistol, I'm sure the power will be a bit low for what I like but I sure like the looks of it

Yong Heng Again

I have had a Hatsan Spark for two years and it has worked good for me. Then I started reading the Doom prophets and Naysayers and got scared, So I bought a Yong Heng.
Took me a while to get it all set up. Today I used it for the first time. After a little soapy water and carful use of a wrench I have it running.
I can not belive how fast this thing is. I am only filling guns but it is short work .
I think I made a good decision.
Thanks

Meal on the run

Stepped outside this morning only to be greeted by two grays. After retrieving a HW97 Blackline .22 only one left. He wasn’t there 5 minutes and my wife calls to see this.

A Mink dragged him up my driveway 200 ft. The squirrel was almost as big. That little mink dragged him and took breaks going up hill on the drive. I think he lives in the stone entrance I threw up by the targets.

I’ve seen tracks in the snow, thought they were squirrel. Crow

Balancing a bullpup

I got a crazy idea and wondering if anyone has gone down the same path. I love bull pups and my taipan is incredibly accurate. However being a bullpup it is rear heavy, which is great for shooting offhand but when shooting out a window or off a bipod the rear of the rifle must be supported or it will want to tip backwards. I’ve grown accustomed to this and always put some downward pressure at the front of rifle and support the back with my hand.

I’m trying to add enough weight to the front of the taipan that way it can balance on a shooting bag when I shoot out my window, car or bench. So far I’ve attached a arca camera plate to the stock and attached a 1lb Ingot of copper to the plate. The balance is much better but not quite there. I still need room for my hand to be on the grip/trigger. Trying to brainstorm to think of more ways I can add weight. I really didn’t want to add a bipod hanging on the front but maybe that is the best option. I much prefer to shoot off a bag now.

Anyone else try something similar? Am I just crazy? Please mind the stock of the gun, it is in between paint jobs lol. This is my project stock.

Amazon Pellets - I was warned

Bought a tin of JSB Exact Jumbo Diablo 15.86g .22 pellets a week ago. Tin looked damaged but put them aside. Today at lunch I pulled them out to test against some H&N FTT 14.66 pellets. HW97 Blackline at 25 yards.

Top six shots with JSB, bottom nine with H&N. With six shots at middle upper target. Looked closely at the skirts and many are damaged. Yes, I was warned not buy on Amazon...
Returned the JSB as damaged and will order from a vendor listed on this forum.

SOLD Avenger package .22 - only $250

I’m looking to sell my custom painted .22 Avenger to help with the purchase of a new HFT rifle. I have really enjoyed this rifle… it’s extremely accurate, easy to tune with externally adjustable regulator and hammer spring and shoots many brands of ammo well. Holds air pressure perfectly without regulator creep. Although it looks like a hunter, it’s mostly been at an indoor range and a little bit of outdoor target shooting. Never seen rain! Comes as a complete ready to go package that includes all accessories to match the gun…CV-Life extendable bi-pod, 3-12x40 SFP scope w/mil-dot reticle, Buck-Rail moderator that helps center the barrel. Also comes with 3 magazines, a single shot tray, pellet probe replacement o-rings, allen wrenches for adjustments and the owners manual. Will be packaged in the original box placed inside another shipping box. $250.00 plus shipping. I take Venmo and Apple Pay. Thanks for looking and let me know if I can answer any further questions you may have.

I need to be banned.

Went into town today. Didn’t really have time to stop at AGS, I’m thinking JBS 8.44’s. I wasn’t going to stop. I must of had an out of body experience again. I’m in their parking area. Well I go in and get my 10 tins. The owner pulls out a Diana 34 Premium .177, nice shape.

Upgraded sights and stock. It’s mine now. I’m not a huge fan of Diana’s. Maybe that will change.

68 Whiskey and FX Panthera???

Did anyone see the short video done by 68 Whiskey where Keith shoots a .25 caliber FX Panthera (700mm?) off hand at 300 yards and hits a steel plate (unknown size)? He says 41 grain ZAN at 960 fps, then says his gun gets "12 to 16 shots" per fill... I know I saw it, but it seems to have been taken down not too long after posting. Perhaps the honest shot count didn't show the Panthera in a good light? Things that make you go hmmm....

  • Question
Maverick Bottle change almost impossible!

Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to the FX Maverick.
I was wondering if anyone else has had the issue where removing or screwing on a full bottle is almost impossible?
I have been filling and removing the bottles for tuning etc for the last month with no problem, easy and smooth.
Over the last couple of days I noticed they were getting quite stiff. I checked the threads, o-rings etc and all is well.
It has reached the point where it is now not possible without serious effort.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard it happen before?
Many thanks
Ed
