Benjamin  Benjamin Bulldog M357 Impression

I’d been contemplating picking one of these up for a while. I didn’t know if I wanted a .457 Bulldog or an M357. I decided to go with the M357 because it’s cheaper to shoot considering ammo costs, I have more experience with various iterations of the.357 Benjamin Bulldog and I’m pretty familiar with the platform to where I’m comfortable enough to work on my own gun to a certain degree. I paired mine with an Athlon Helos 2-12x42mm FFP as seen below. I may try another scope or two on it in time
IMG_0861.jpeg

I sighted in the Helos at 25 yards shooting NSA 110 grain slugs. Per my other Bulldogs, this one shoots them pretty well up close. I only made it out to 35 yards before the heat started cooking my electronics and giving me a headache. I packed it in around 103F. Here’s a couple of shot strings.
IMG_0856.jpeg

IMG_0857.jpeg

My initial impression of this rifle is that out of the box, this is an adequate deer gun for me considering my experience with the platform and the regulations for deer hunting in the state of Texas as of 2023. The M357 is also capable of taking raccoon to coyote sized varmints. Due to the increased velocities compared to the stock .357 Bulldog, I’m thinking this gun is capable of ethically taking out varmints from longer distances with light 110 grain slugs. I’ll know more when I stretch my range farther.

My verdict on taking out deer at a distance is also inconclusive. I don’t want to speculate there so I’ll wait until I have more data. To satisfy the 215 ft/Lb minimum requirement for taking white tail deer, these 110 grain NSA slugs need to be shot at an approximate minimum velocity of 939 fps from this Benjamin Bulldog M357. My suggestion is to chronograph your rifle once you get it to be sure that it’s consistently shooting at or above this velocity with 110 grain NSA slugs or other projectiles of the same weight.

As you can see from my shot strings, the first two shots from a 2900-2800 psi fill meet the legal minimum requirement. After five shots (one magazine) the reservoir finishes around 2100-2000 psi. I haven’t pushed any shots below 2000 psi. That’s good enough for me for an unregulated hunting PCP. Oh yea, This rifle is LOUD and powerful. This isn’t a toy. You’ll likely want to wear hearing protection if you wish to preserve your hearing. It is not a backyard friendly rifle out of the box. I have not shot it with a moderator yet.

Check the terms of your warranty freight cost.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Had a interesting incident occur while trying to ship my gun for a warranty issue.
This is going to be a very generic post, no airgun names, no manufacturer names. Don't ask.
I have an airgun that is still under warranty. Something very strange occurred while I was working on my gun. I was stumped so I contacted the service center and talked to a technician. After a very lengthy discussion, he concurred that I had followed proper procedures during my work and suggested I send it back so they could take a look at the gun, something small is wrong.
Packed it up, went to FedEx, fright company this manufacturer uses. Three quotes to ship starting a close to $350.00, down to $150.00. Puzzled that my freight wasn't paid for warranty work , once again call customer service, while at FedEx, and was told that the company had changed policy on freight cost for warranty work. Change the policy on a sales contract we had entered into at the time I bought my gun. To me that seemed illegal, but not being lawyer, I couldn't be sure.
Anyway, thanks to the wonderful customer service representative, we got it sorted out, and my gun is in route . My return freight will be charge to me but at the manufacturer's rate, not general rates.
Bottom line, before you ship your gun back for warranty work, make sure of your freight rates just to be sure policies haven't change.
All is good.
Thanks
Mike

Brocock/BRK  Atomic

Hello,
I have convinced a friend to start FT and he's wanting to do pistol and rifle with one gun. He mentioned the atomic in 177 which I know you guys that have them love them but he is running to shoot hunter class in both. I know it will do great for pistol but can or does it get closer to that 20fpe for rifle? I know in 22 it can but not for sure about 177. AoA says 15fpe. He said no Thomas.

Thanks
Jon

Diana  The World Needs More GISS in it

Recently picked up my first GISS gun (Diana 75, 07/1980) and I'm kind of blown away by it. For starters, the opposing piston system is just wonderful. Pull the trigger and the gun BARELY flinchs to the point where I'm not even sure if the gun is moving or my trigger technique is a bit off. Secondly, and this is a big part of why I grabbed it, the stickers are just really neat. The gun seems to have quite a bit of history. It has club stickers dating back to 1985 (maybe older but the others are illegible) to a club in Germany that is still up and running. I just thought that was pretty neat.

The gun handles very well as expected. This is my first attempt at a 10m sheet with this gun, standing offhand of course. I scored 98/120 which isn't great for some of you guys but for me it is haha. I'll get there!

Brocock/BRK  🙀Five Shots Atomic XR… 🙈

jAbout to go on a tandem bicycle ride with my wife, but had to squeeze off five beforehand. This is from my second Atomic from the “We the Plinkers” package. The trigger is sweet and the gun delivers as you can see. Was confirming POI at 15 and 25 yards. She will become my designated ratter. Did I mention I love my Atomics. Bad ass little guns.

Debating on Hog Hunting in This Heat

It’s still in the 90s and I’m debating on whether I want to get after these hogs tonight at my beaver permission. I’ve noticed that they like to get in the water when it’s in the 100s. That’s a no go unless it’s absolutely necessary. Someone try and talk me into it because I stepped outside a minute ago and I’m not feeling this heat.

I’d be taking out a .357 Benjamin Bulldog, a thermal scanner, and some hunting lights. Not sure how thermal works when it’s this warm. I am in need of some motivation.

Airgun Technologies  Uragan 2

Hello All,
I just ordered an Uragan 2 compact in .22 with the carbon stock. I’m very excited! I was debating between the AirMaks Caiman, BRK Ghost, but something pulled me towards the Uragan 2, probably Sub12 Airguners tutorials.
I’m hoping it doesn’t Ping but if it does I feel confident enough to install a de-pinger. I’m not sure if the factory shroud will keep it quiet enough for me? I have a DonnyFL Sumo I could use if needed. I don’t know if it will need an adapter or not?
If anyone has any advice with anything I’m open ears.

Thanks

Umarex  400-700$ range pcp

I'm still new to pcp. I have a umarex gauntlet. 25 with a 22000psi regulator large bottle shooting jsb heavy. So about 57fpe. We have a big groundhog problem, plus a pcp problem. They are definitely getting more sensitive it's hard get out of the house a get a shot off fast enough. The other problem is my pcp won't drop the big ones fast enough they will run far enough to get under something and yea. It drops the smaller one easy. So I'm in the market for a new pcp but something good possibly a semi auto with around the same power or more, or something just a little lighter that's around 100fte? I was looking at the aea sf 30. but a deap search on the internet I'm not to sure on reliability.

The Grapes of Wrath

My apologies to John Steinbeck…

Gents,

My Brocock Sniper Sahara driven, .177 caliber crusade against my arch nemesis the California ground squirrel rages on, much to the chagrin of the ground squirrels.

I’m sure you’re wondering why the thread title is the same as Steinbeck’s literary masterpiece and might be thinking, “Is this moron going to do a book review in an airgun hunting thread”? Bear with me…

On our little piece of terra firma, we have a grape vineyard…which sits next to my neighbors field…which until my recent declaration of war, was being overrun with ground squirrels. As it turns out, pairing Cabernet Sauvignon with a Bog Pod and a Brocock Sniper leaves that wonderful taste on your palate of dead vermin and shots well placed. In short, the vines make a quite suitable shooting blind, as the below pictures attest.

IMG_4170.jpeg

IMG_4167.jpeg

Now some may question my choice of a Cabernet during these hot summer months and opine that a light, fruity Chardonnay would be a better choice, and I might tend to agree, but my Chardonnay vines are 20 yards farther away from my quarry, so a good hearty Cab it is.

The ex-squirrel pictured below was from a couple of days ago and was the fortunate recipient of my first miss with the little Sniper Sahara. Alas, his good fortune ended shortly thereafter courtesy of better steering and 13 grains of JSB’s finest. A careful review of my first miss determined it to having been caused by a sectional density issue, meaning a large section of my brain is uncommonly dense, rendering me not very bright. This in turn resulted in me using the wrong hold over. Distance was 52 yards.

IMG_4169.jpeg

The below two decedents were found to be frolicking about in the field a short while ago as if there were no repercussions for such behavior. Unfortunately for them, there are repercussions, and they chose to frolic at 40 yards, which happens to be the distance the Brocock is sighted in for. Two gentle caresses of the trigger later, and these two were on their way to the great burrow in the sky.

IMG_4185.jpeg

IMG_4186.jpeg

I have quite a few air rifles and enjoy them all, but there is just something about the Brocock Sniper platform that blows my skirt up.

Justin

N/A  6fpe pcp for county fair booth???

An old friend called up and wants to rent a space for a NRA booth and have airguns to shoot so he asked me what airgun rifles to buy that are the best bang for the buck. He doesn't want to spend much money.

Seems like many of the less expensive pcp's are too powerful as far as making a suitable backstop for 10y.

I didn't want to suggest BB guns because they typically don't shoot precise enough. At this same county fair when I was a youth I remember being frustrated with the bb guns they had. 5 yards, not sighted in, 1" groups, and bb's tend to bounce back.

My first thought was the CZ S200's for price, weight, decent trigger, and great precision. Seems like they are discontinued though??

What else should we be considering?
