No Rifling marks?

I was cleaning the barrel of my Daystate Redwolf .22 cal. Got done cleaning and grabbed a couple JSB Redesigned pellets to push through the bore.

Pushed both through and neither one had any marks on the head to speak of and the skirt just looked smoothed over, no pronounced marks.

hmmm. Out comes the dial calipers, clean jaws and start. .210, .214, .210, .209 followed by .214, .209, .210 and .211. Skirt after pushing though isn't much smaller.

So they appear to be missing 0.010" of head engagement to the bore. Maybe that can be my favorite reason to miss the target.

What are you getting for measurements on the head? How large should the head be?

Prototype All Wooden Pellet Trap

I just finished up a prototype wooden pellet trap from things I had around the workshop. The only metal is 90 degree angle I put on the front outside, sides and bottom to hold the cardboard. Outside is 14½" x 14½" x 12” making the inside 13” x 13”. Sides, top and bottom made from 3/4" MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). after placing 1 ½” thick x 3” long pieces of end grain well cures pine as the backer the inside depth is 9", two rows of 7/8" end grain maple finished off the opening. End grain of any wood is always stronger than edge or face grain. I’m hoping the initial pellet hit will embed some and then start building up lead without doing damage much deeper than 1” max. If that does not work and the pine fails then I a nice 1½’ thick quarter sawn oak that the end grain would be a significant step up from the pine, then there is always maple. I put a 1/2" plywood back on, took some wooden shims and hammered them into any cracks to tighten things up from the inside. I did not glue the blocks to make replacement easier. This is a prototype so no paint, used the base (with minor modifications) that was holding the metal pellet trap this replaces.

If I decide to rebuild this I will assemble the back end grain pieces first and build the box around it. Although the pine was well cured they were wide pieces and as such cupped. A replacement backer will have flat pieces to make the fit tighter. I didn’t notice until after the tops and sides were cut that my tracksaw blade was slightly out of square, it was more noticeable when I was cutting the 1½".

My shooting bench was in the Phoenix sun by the time I finished and I was tired as well so I will shot some tomorrow and show you the impacts.

Cut list
2-14.5 x 12 x 3/4" top and bottom
2-13 x 12 x 3/4" sides
Bunch of end grain wood of your choosing to fill the 13"x13" opening.

I used pocket screws to assemble and glued the butt joints, use plenty on the end grain of the MDF as it will soak up the glue. The screen shot of the bubble level is from my phone sitting on top of the pellet trap. Here are some photos:

N/A  Who likes .20?!?!

Alright, in my. 20 escapades with the Veteran and more recently the Ghost, I've had multiple people comment that they wish there were more .20 options available.

I've got no I affiliation with them just sharing the news for those who have expressed interest in a .20 cal.

Piston shooters

I was pondering why people stay with piston for field target competition? I have just started field target and started with a tx and have shot maybe 5 matches with it hunter class. I averaged I think 32/60. Now I shot one match with a pcp in hunter class and shot a 49. I enjoyed hitting more targets and knowing the gun was doing its job just not me. I will say I had a better scope on the pcp than I did the piston so that could have made a little difference, maybe. I do like the idea of not having to have extra things for the match with the piston. Piston guns are for me a more challenge to shoot consistently but I like that challenge and I can get a top of the piston rifle for easily half or more off a top of line PCPs that are commonly used for serious competitors(raw,Daystate,fx, Thomas).
So why do you piston shooters stay with piston? Enjoyment?challenge?

I will continue to use both but around here you might have a one or 2 piston shooters max.

I do know I hate using holdover lol. I'm a clicker and shooting open in piston is even more rare. I also have to be honest with myself and realize that WFTF is not the most comfortable or stable position for my big butt. So it seems that you have to stay in Hunter class to have competition even though there isn't much in Piston.

If I'm to be honest I enjoy piston guns better but I enjoy hitting more targets more lol

So I guess I need to practice more. Lol

JSB quality????

So I just opened a few tins of the jsb jumbo heavy 18 grain pellets, at least half in each tin have completely jacked up skirts. I have noticed a few here and there before but these were bad. What's funny is I also got some rifle premiums in 18 grain they were all but perfect. Not sure if jsb's qc is going down or it's just a bad batch but........

N/A  Best of the cheap springers?

I have Tony Leach tuned TX200 MK1, HW97 with a Vortek kit and a HW50 that l'm waiting on a new barrel, stuck in customs. This gun has been a night mare. Should have sent it back to AOA before warranty ran out. Which cheap break barrel, not over 200.00, is a decent shooter. The only kit l see at Vortec is the Ruger air hawk. Need something l can adjust trigger or put an after market in. Would like something comparable to the HW50 inside and around 12 foot pounds. Just a project gun and possible 30 yard squirrel gun. Thanks, Don

FX  Kalibrgun Cricket 2 Tactical not filling to 300 bar

Does anyone know what would cause the gun not to fill to 300 bar? I have tried to fill it with a 6.8L tank as well as a compressor and it only takes air till about 275 bar. Weird thing is that the compressor keeps pumping but both the gun gauge and compressor gauge show the same pressure. I would think if the gun stopped taking air at 275 bar, the compressor would build pressure until it hit the shutoff. Air must be going somewhere for the compressor to keep working but not building pressure and the compressor isn't faulty. Any ideas?

NLA Moderator 1/2 x 20 UNF .17 Caliber

Here is another moderator 33x91mm. It weighs 2.0 ounces.
This moderator has a stainless steel helicoil insert.

I made this one a couple of months ago. It's a good moderator. I shot it a while on my Stormrider at around 19 foot pounds. It has been tested on my Condor at 35 fpe. It is solid as a rock and very quiet when allowed to work (you put enough juice to it).

It has some artifacts from printing and a scratch along one side which can be seen in the images. So it is "USED".

This USED moderator to your door $30.00, in CONUS.

If you want it I will invoice you via PayPal. That protects you and makes my accounting and shipping easier.

Other  Slavia 634 Still Desirable?

I know around 2016-18 they were highly thought of for a bit, but dont hear much about them now.
Thinning the herd here and thinking of taking one to the Hickory show, but if they have somehow fallen out of favor, I wont waste the space and will keep it for around the house.
A quick check in the classifieds showed none for sale over the last few years.
